I am an out-of-state Clemson dad. I paid Big V $1000 to install 3 ignition coils in my student daughter's car ($300 parts, $700 labor). The parts failed in 3 months. My shop pulled the parts. Two were off-brand no name parts I found on EBay $79 for 6. I had to pay my shop an additional $750 labor to install new quality parts. I paid for labor twice. I asked Bill to reimburse me. He said "No."He refuses to take responsibility for my loss caused by his installation of cheap bad parts. He told me it wasn't his fault the parts were bad and to take it up with the parts supplier. This after I mailed him the parts so he could get a refund. But refuses to reimburse me. Buyer beware. Big V does not stand up for its work. read more

My daughter is a Clemson student. It takes a long time to find a mechanic you can trust, much more so when doing it via your daughter 100 miles away. They get it. We've issues that needed $$. We have issues that they said "meh, I wouldn't bother with it". In the beginning it was me dealing with them. Bill (owner/technician of Big V) is the most honest car mechanic I've met. I called last week to drop of my car this morning to get it "checked up". I'm leaving for a cross-country road trip and just asked him to look everything over. I instantly felt that he was trustworthy from the moment I met him in person. He told me it would take about an hour, and that he would call me if he found anything that needed fixing. He directed me to the Central County Library a short walk away (super helpful!) and I just worked there for the day. He called in about an hour, saying I needed new tires. I asked if I also needed an oil change (3 months overdue, but 2000 miles short), and he convinced me that it wasn't necessary. I was surprised he didn't try to wrangle that out of me when I was the first to bring it up. I took a lunch break and walked back to see my tires for myself, and he stopped what he was doing to explain how mine were falling apart-- took out a flashlight and showed me all the cracks and treads. I really appreciated his concern and attention to detail. He needed to get the tires delivered to his shop, so it took a few hours while I continued working at the library. I decided to take a break and check up on it again just as he was ringing me up. I was charged $324 for 4 Kelly tires, $105 for labor, and chump change in very reasonable fees. I wish I'd found out about Big V years ago! I don't have any friends who will still be in the area after graduation, but I HIGHLY recommend Bill's service to anyone looking for a car mechanic. read more

I brought in a brand new moped (only had 30 miles) that I assumed just needed a basic tuneup. I ended up paying $140 for them to simply replace the battery and fix a small wiring issue. The moped barely started when I picked it up, which they blamed on a clogged carburetor, even though the moped was new. They told me that it was impossible to clean a moped carburetor, and I'd have to pay over $100 to install a new one. I would recommend finding a different mechanic if you're in need of moped repairs/maintenance. read more

Went there a week or two ago and was happy with the great service. The owner is very nice and was the one who worked on my car. You pay about $63 just to have him look at the car and then parts and additional labor is added to the price. My car was worked on starting that day and was quickly finished. When I went to pick it up, he told me what was wrong, what he did to fix it and some potential problems that might come up in the future (e.g., if your car doesn't start, this may need to be replaced, or if this happens, don't worry, just do this...). Also, it helps that the Red line CATBUS stops maybe 30 feet away from the auto shop, so you can easily get to and from there without having someone to drive you around. PLUS, he gave me a t-shirt and frisbee for free. Awesome! read more

I had a master slave cylinder leak which left my clutch unusable and stuck in a parking spot at my girlfriend's. I got it towed to here and inspected. He downs the problem, ordered the part, installed it, and had my car back to me by the next day around 3 pm. Want too expensive for the part and labor. Great guy. I went to Big V Automotive to get a flat tire fixed. I had a good experience: all employees were very friendly, the repair was done quickly, and it was very affordable as well. I was wary when I first arrived, as I had read other yelp reviews from other automotive repair shops in the area that warned me of mechanics who might try to take advantage of someone who did not know what would be considered reasonable pricing, such as myself. However, the mechanic was very reasonable; he did not try to push me to buy anything other than what I came for, but handed me a business card at the end of the visit should I decide to come back for another visit for anything else I may need in the future. Definitely would recommend! They also sell mopeds if you're a student who is looking. read more

If I could give this 0 Stars I would. Let me tell you about my experience. I bought a carburetor from them yesterday and tried to return it today... Get this... Not for a refund but for a part that I actually needed. They told me they do not take any kind of returns, which I guess they failed to mention when I made the purchase. All I received was a hand-written receipt. Customer service like that is unacceptable and something I have never experienced. Plus, I knew their prices would be higher that I could get online but decided to buy for convenience. However their prices are four times what you can buy online. I suggest if you're going there for any kind of scooter repair or parts, take my advice and order the parts or find somewhere that's not so expensive. Bought two mopeds from big v. First one locked down in about a month, i gave 450.00 for it. The second one was brand new, gave 750.00 for it. It began having engine trouble around the second month. He would honor his 90 day warranty. He is an untrustworthy busnessman. He will never recieve any more of my busness. read more

Got car back from them after routine mainteance and check engine light was on. Took it back to Big V next day and they said it was bad sensor and would cost $285 to fix. Said I'd think on it. A coworker who works on cars a lot heard me discussing on phone and ask to take a look. We popped hood and the intake hoses were disconnected and wire to sensor was knocked loose. Can't prove they did the disconnects, but do know they didn't find them when giving estimate. Will stay away. read more

Took car in for 30K maintenance. Gave them a maximum dollar amount which they must call me for permission before exceeding. Went to pick up car and bill was for $415 more than agreed upon maximum. Will not do business with them again. read more

A/C wasn't as cold as I remembered, so took car to Big V to check it. They charged me to refresh the Freon. The next day the A/C failed. I took it back to them to examine. They said the compressor needed to be replaced for ~$600. I took car to Pressley's for a second opinion. Pressley's said the freon had been overcharged by 30 percent causing the compressor to shut off for safety. In other words, I did not need a new compressor and the failure was caused by Big V overcharging! I went back to Big V for a refund and was told "it is only his opinion" (about the overcharging. It is my opinion to never use Big V again. read more
