My folding bike had an issue where it wouldn't pedal, and I thought a costly repair would be the only solution. Sigh, more money down the drain. Initially, I went to another local bike shop. Explaining my issue, I was told I needed a derailleur adjustment, which would cost x amount of dollars, and I'd have to leave my bike at the shop and I will be called when ready. Knowing Big Wheel Bicycles is just a few blocks away, I thanked the first shop for the estimate and headed to Big Wheel bicycles for their estimate. Soon as I walked into Big Wheel bicycles, I was welcomed and a gentleman heard my issue, told me the issue was shifting gears while stationary, and no repair was necessary. Didn't charge a fee for diagnostics/time or anything! I was soon out the door, and rode the bike around the parking lot to make sure everything was in proper working order. Big Wheel Bicycles just earned a loyal customer. They could've charged for a diagnostic and/or suggested services, a la care dealer service departments, to this bike layperson, but they weren't concerned about racking up a bill for me, which in turn will bring them my future business going forward. I am quite happy with the brief service Big Wheel Bicycles afforded me, and I highly recommend them to anyone in search of a new bike or having their bike serviced. read more

I was looking all over LA County for this Haro Lineage Groundmaster 2023 and called around to many shops. Big Wheel Bicycles (BWB) were the only ones (Kendall) who picked up the phone promptly and inquired with Haro directly to find out if it was in stock and what not. They were extremely friendly, helpful and welcoming as opposed to the other stores I spoke with. After ordering over the phone, Kendall at BWB texted me throughout every step of the process and kept me informed. I broke down on the 605 river trail with my Specialized Roubaix about 30 miles from home. They were the closest bike shop that was open at 9am on Saturday. The back wheel wouldn't roll. I Ubered to the store and they fixed me all up and had me back on the road in about 1/2 hr. I extended my planned ride to add the lost Uber miles. They had to take the rear cog off/apart to remove the chain that got jammed between the large cog and the spokes. They made some adjustments to my derailleurs too. Then, they didn't charge me! I had to do something so I'm leaving this review. A rare feel good experience! I will pay it forward if ever I can help a fellow cyclist. On my second bike ride ever with clipless pedals, I fell to the right as I was coming to a stop. When I started pedaling again, I could no longer shift to my highest gear without the chain rubbing. I suspected that the derailleur got bent during the crash. It was another 18 miles back home and I didn't want to risk damaging my bike even more, so I searched on yelp for a local bike shop. Thankfully Big Wheel Bicycles was only a mile away and was the only bike shop opened on a Sunday. Mickey immediately went to work on my bike. Less than 30 mins later, I was out the door! The selection is good, you might pay more here than a regular retailer but it is for good service and good sturdy bikes. The team is helpful and knowledgeable with their bikes. My son and I went in Saturday with no expectations of them having stock but THEY DID! Kendall was a dream to buy from. So kind and went above and beyond with service. My family and I have lived in Cerritos for over 20 years. And during this time, I have used Big Wheel Bicycles's services, whether be a flat tire, new tires etc. Sure, they are a bit more expensive but I believe in small businesses and wanted to keep supporting them. This changed from just one experience my father had. My father has an older bicycle and he wanted to get new tires and inner tubes. He brought the old tire and inner tube with them and got a new set, which costed $120. Noticeably expensive but we got them due to the pandemic and to support this small business. He got home and tried to put them on. Now, my father is a retired mechanic, who has worked on vehicles for over 40 years. After 1 hour of trying to put the tires on, he realized, the tires were the wrong size. My father went back and told them the issue. Now, at this point, there were no mention of labor. The white 'gentleman' took the tires, tube, and the hub and realized he had gave them the wrong size. At this point, this 'gentleman' went to work, put on the right tires and tube. No apology but the charged for labor. Again, NO MENTION OF LABOR. So my father argued of no mention of it. Again, it was THEIR mistake of giving the wrong tire/tube. "You didn't mention about labor. Why are you charging for labor? Isn't this your mistake? I came back because of your mistake. And where is the labor receipt?", my father inquired. "F*ck you! Get out of my store!" screamed the 'gentleman'. "F*ck you too!" replied my father. Where is the professionism? You do not cuss at a customer. Seriously. they could have handled better. It'd been ages since I was in an LBS, and it was nice being back in a small shop w/ good old-fashioned customer service. I'm in my mid-40s, and when I was a teen in the early-90s, even big box stores like Target and Home Club (precursor to Home Depot & Lowe's) had excellent customer service. The associates were knowledgeable, and were always eager to help. It's such a rarity nowadays to receive that kind of service, so it was refreshing to walk into BIG WHEEL BICYCLES and ask about a part that I needed for the new bike trailer I'd bought. I didn't have enough thread length on my rear axle to attach the trailer adapter, so after some googling, I found out that the part was called a REAR AXLE EXTENDER (https://www.sefiles.net/images/library/large/sunlite-replacement-axle-extender-219816-1-11-1.jpg). I showed the pic, and the owner/co-owner(?) helped me out. With great integrity, he threaded the parts on an axle at the back of the shop to test them to make sure there were no quality control issues, then proceeded to explain to me the measurements, as well as the how and why behind the #s. He also instructed me on installation to ensure success [e.g., "put a little grease on when you install it" / "this one has 26 threads (for multi-speed bikes), and the other one has 24 threads (for single-speed bikes)" / "this one (drive-side extender) is longer because it has to clear the derailleur"]. I like & prefer when businesses like EDUCATING their customers because it indicates that they want us to be EMPOWERED w/ knowledge, and aren't threatened that they'll lose our business, simply because we have some more info in our brains. At BIG WHEEL BICYCLES, you walk away happy, knowing you'll return again after having a quality experience. I would choose them over Amazon, if they had the same item in stock, because I want to support this local business that is passionate about bikes, and takes pride in treating their customers well. Kendall is a great guy and really did me a solid. I recently did a bike ride from Northern California down to Los Angeles and I ended my 500 mile trek in Cerritos. I did not have a. plan about how I was going to get my bike back home so I stopped into the shop to ask about shipping. Kendall took care of everything with such attention and my bike was packed with so much safe keeping, you would think Kendall was packing his very own bike. We were looking for a bike for my son's birthday and we stumbled across this bike shop after not finding bikes at Walmart or Target. Once we spoke to Kendall and Dwayne they were really passionate about helping us find the right bike for our seven-year-old. They had the patience to explain the details on the bike we were purchasing and even referred us to a BMX track near by if we were really inquiring and serious about entering our son into a sport that he would like or consider. As all parents want the best for their children we both decided that it was a good choice to spend the extra $100 so that he can have a quality bike instead of a Walmart or Target bike. I'm reasonably handy with a bike myself. Unfortunately the one thing I can not figure out is how to index my rear derailleur. Keep in mind that Covid-19 has made repair times a little random for every bike shop. There are some days when they can get it back to you same day and other times it'll take several days to a week. It's not really something to hold against any shop right now. This place was able to get my bike indexed and back to me on the same day though.
