I've been coming here for years for the delicious wide variety of ready made food/meal options when I need a bite on the go. Let me just say , they truly put the "Fresh" in Fresh Acres! Flavorful and moderately priced, it's definitely worth stopping in instead of wasting your money on fast food at a drive thru. But in my opinion, the thing that keeps me coming back time and time again is the absolutely out of this world floral styling talents of their florist Tammy! I have had custom bouquets arranged by her on multiple occasions and watching her work is like watching Picasso himself. I go in , select several (already available bouquets) explain my vision for my arrangement and she brings it to life every single time impeccably! Everyone I've gifted one of her arrangements to is absolutely blown away when I say they're from Fresh Acres and not a stand alone florist shop. Her attention to detail, her personable and professional demeanor, is what keeps me coming back time and time again. Much in the same way you can taste when a great meal has been made with love, I'd say the same about a bouquet from Tammy: you can see the love she has for her craft in the way she brings arrangements to life. Watching her put the finishing touches on my bouquets reminds me of on Say Yes to the Dress when they're doing the same, adding on the veil, jewelry, etc . My most recent arrangement was a custom 21st birthday bouquet I was gifting to a very good friend of mine (who's favorite color is blue) and she absolutely blew me away with how gorgeous it turned out!!! Like others in recent reviews, I too am disappointed that Big Y decided to very explicitly inflict itself upon what felt like a local grocery store instead of simply leaving well enough alone. I saw the corporate justification in another review, (the difference between Fresh Acres and Big Y being smaller and smaller), and it rings hollow. They didn't really have to plaster their brand all over the store, but that's their prerogative. I do feel like there has been a change in customer service since the transition, as though the employees now feel like they too are part of a faceless corporation and not some well-supplied local neighborhood grocery story. Case-in-point, The Umbrella Factory in Naples, ME (https://yelp.to/DO9Xzfl7rtb). They are locally owned but supplied by Hannaford, so they still have the small town feel while also being supported by a big grocery chain. Needlessly, Big Y found a way to suck the life out a cozy little spot. Lovely little spot to have a quick soup and sandwich. There's a small area right of the cashiers where you can sit and enjoy. Speaking of enjoy, I really liked my veggie wrap filled with lots of fresh vegetables and hummus, and I also appreciated 1 of the 4 soups being vegetarian which was also very good. This is local chain Big Y's version of ___(Whole Paycheck). I stopped in for a quick snack. I used to live in the area and haven't been inside this store in years. The prices are a bit high, as Big Y tends to be and considering the next nearest grocery store is a tad bit away. I walked into the outer area of local fresh fruits and vegetables. They have a nice selection. It's very VERY clean, and considering it was Monday nearing 11am, the store was nicely staffed. I was asked a few times if I needed any help and not I that intrusive way. I picked up a very large head of cauliflower for $2.50. Can't go wrong there. Inside the main part of the store, I found chocolate hummus. Ohhhh goodie...I haven't seen that since my too short time in Texas (HEB anyone?) I also noticed they have grassfed beef and organic chicken for fairly reasonable prices. I did get some chicken. I then went to find my snack...as someone else noted, there was only regular containers of sugar-laden yogurt. I was rather disappointed at this. I did pick up some oikos triple zero on sale 4/$5... probably better for me than the fast food place I contemplated stopping at first. I came away with my snack. Also, my fresh cauliflower, chicken and will add this to my garden veggies for a nice dinner. read more

Fresh acres is comparable to whole foods in selection, but the prices are among the highest that I have ever seen. I found a product (almond milk) that I typically get for $3.99, at $6.99 there. The hot bar was closer to a conventional supermarket, than a high end store. Although you could find higher end products there, definitely expect to pay up for it.. I wont be coming back. Amazing selection of food, they have close to everything, only missing perhaps the rarest of specialty items. Wish it was more affordable, pretty much all basic things can be bought for cheaper at Stop & Shop. I get fresh produce if the quality is superior, but same strawberries that are in all stores are more expensive here. Or yogurt that's $1.19 at S&S is $1.97 here. Who doesn't love fresh acres lol? There are a lot of pros to this store. It is a bit on the pricey side for grocery, but their produce prices can't be beat. They're owned by big y but for some reason their produce is much cheaper than the big y down the street. It's Mostly local too, which is great for consumers and the community. The store itself is gorgeous. They've got a beautiful meat, seafood, bakery, and deli display. They've got a fully stocked and plentiful cheese wall and fresh olive bar. They've also recently added a hot food buffet, so perfect to stop in for lunch. Great customer service also. The only con is it is on the expensive side. I usually do my main grocery shopping at big y then come here for produce and specialty products. read more

This store tries to tailor to the Whole Foods crowd, but it's just Big Y with outrageous pricing. It's important to know that this place is nowhere near a health food store--their yogurt section is packed with sugary single-serve cups, they only have one option for nitrate-free bacon (and it's not affordable at all), and their produce is not great. Their eggs are more expensive than the cage free omega 3 blah blah blah eggs from Whole Foods. Also, a box of organic brownie mix was $6.19. It's not Scarffen Berger chocolate or anything that could possibly ever justify the price. Just $6.19 for some flour, sugar, and chocolate powder that has the word "European" on the box. read more

Fresh Acres is a nice stress free shopping experience that you will pay for dearly. With that said I do love this place. The sushi, deli, fish, and meat are excellent. Nice gourmet selection of hard to find items. The stone pies are awesome. Nice cheese selection. Dessert counter, prepared sections, great sandwiches. It's basically everything Big Y is not. I just wish it wasn't so damn expensive. It's not a place to do your entire grocery shopping, but a place to get lunch or some ingredients for dinner. Fresh Acres Market is a Big Y 'experiment', the only real indication of that inside the store is the presence of some Big Y brand products in the form of cereals, dairy products, etc. Other than that, it's its own animal, which is good and bad. The good outweighs the bad by a lot fortunately. They offer a wonderful variety of quality (dare I say gourmet) ingredients. We've tried a wide variety of items from their meat case including dry aged and grass fed steaks as well as their marinated steak tips. They carry Springfield's own Zonin sausage which is absolutely tops in my book. Another plus of the store is their wide array of prepared foods. Grilled vegetables, salads, sandwiches, entrees, etc it's a pretty impressive lot. You can buy them from the case or around the corner prepackaged and priced. The offerings seem to change (they offer delicious corned beef and cabbage in March) but there are staples that are consistent like mac and cheese and shepherds pie. I continue to maintain the unfair idea that Fresh Acres is a boutique kind of place and therefore more expensive than regular supermarkets. I continue to find that this prejudgement is unfair and that their prices seem to follow the normal trends like things on sale and loss leaders. I recently purchased a block of (amazing) aged cheddar for $1 less than what Stop & Shop charges for the exact same brand. This wasn't on sale, I'm comparing normal price. The negatives I've arrived at are partly comparisons to their "Big" brother chain. The Fresh Acres rotisserie chicken is hit or miss and usually miss. I buy them out of sheer convenience for dinner, always hoping for the best. Frequently they are overcooked, the symptom of this is not that the meat is dry but that the joints/cartilage practically disintegrate. It's nearly impossible to remove the leg without a quarter of the carcass coming with it. Sometimes you can't tell where the meat ends and what was bone begins. If they were to start selling Big Y's SuperBird they'd be doing themselves a favor. I also wish they would have incorporated, in some fashion, Big Y's seafood take-out business. Perhaps it didn't fit the "Fresh Acres ambiance" but they could have given it a shot. I bet they could have improved on what is already good too. In some ways Fresh Acres sets itself apart with customer service. The management and check out folks do a good job in doing the right thing. I had an item ring up at the non-sale price and I was given it for free on the spot, no need for a managers approval. read more

I love, love this store! HOWEVER, I would not recommend their holiday prepared dinners. I purchased Prime Rib with fixings and instructions were seriously bad. The Turkey breast dinner turned out to be Jennie O.... just awful. $150 and it went in the trash and I was very embarrassed. My guests were courteous that goodness. I really do love this market but I wish I stayed with Boston Market turkey and ham as that is just like homemade and their sides are much much better. In fact this is a complaint about the fruit basket that I received as a holiday's gift (from my colleague) . The fruit basket was purchased from Fresh acres on Wilbraham Rd, Springfield, MA. Since my colleagues at the college and I was very disappointed with the basket, I brought it to the store to show the manager how they made the basket. The basket was packed with full of papers and few fruits on the top, so I showed it to Mr. Roger Gowin who is the manager and told him how we all are disappointed and that they are misleading their customers by selling a basket of full of papers and few fruits on the top which is not right at all. However, Mr. Gowin, was not helpful at all, instead of apologizing for what they have done and guarantee to improve for the future, he said it is our choice whether we buy from their store or not in the future. He didn't care at all that we all are disappointed or try to keep his customers. We thought managers are there to listen their customers and solve problems, but he was the opposite. You need to train him how to communicate with his customers and solve issues instead of being arrogant. I know people don't come here hunting for pizza but I sure did, and it was the best I've had in town. They prepare the pizza in a stone oven so the crust is perfect. There is an outdoor area for the produce section, which has a lot of local products. Inside the entrance is a wonderful deli and meat section with so many choices. There's also a vast cheese selection. I didn't get a chance to try their bakery items but it all looked like the typical essentials. I would describe this store as a mini-Whole Foods because of all the organic options down the aisles. The frozen section sells typical boxed foods with the addition of local restaurants selling their pastas and sauces. Near the check-out is a small sitting area if you want to devour your food before traveling. I'll definitely be back to try out their other products soon. read more

I had no idea Fresh Acres was of Big Y relation. The contrast between my Big Y on St. James Avenue and this Fresh Acres Market is astounding! I love their central take-and-eat food station. Everything-- sushi, pastries, cold deli-style entrees and sides, piping hot food ready to eat then and there-- all looks and smells delicious. No boring fried potato wedges or microwave-oven mashed potatoes and gravy. This is deli food taken to the gourmet level. Their meat and seafood counters are so much more inviting, and in a strange way, personal. I feel comfortable asking the butchers questions, and they seem knowledgeable about answering them (a stark contrast from the don't-bother-me, cloistered away butchers at Big Y or Stop n Shop). In the "fresh" foods department-- meats, cheeses, yogurts, fruits, veggies, meals ready-to-eat-- Fresh Acres really excels. However, I feel they really fall short on the pantry staples end of things. For example, their ethnic shelf-stable offerings are slim to none. I was hoping to find some much-needed Asian ingredients and was disappointed by the extremely limited options (no better, or even worse than larger commercial grocers). In this regard, a place like Trader Joe's or Whole Foods fares much better. Fresh Acres is the place I go to get a healthy bite to eat-- perhaps a vegan Indian dish just waiting to be warmed up and a bottle of kombucha-- but isn't affordable enough to warrant going for my "regular" grocery shopping. read more

A tiny bit like Whole Foods minus all of the Vitamin D deficient vegans in a completely unsuspecting section of Springfield. Perhaps not your supermarket for the basic daily necessities, but certainly worth a weekly stop. Everything here for one reason or another just seems better. It comes with a price, but I do think its worth every penny. There are a number of things that set it apart from your basic supermarket. Dry aged steaks, willingly cut to order. A large selection of in store prepared foods. A great artisan cheese selection. Cider donuts made in store. A gelato bar. A gas fired brick oven pizza counter with some very creative offerings. Been gobbling down sammichez here for awhile and never thought of doing a review until now. Today I had the pastrami on rye and it was good. It wasn't heated all the way through and I asked for it to be left extra long in the press but it still gets a thumbs up. The other day I had one of their pulled pork sammies and that was good too so I hot one to go for my daughter as we both love bbq grub and she liked it too. I love Fresh Acres. I go here for groceries and when I get lazy and want a quick lunch or dinner. Groceries: Their grocery prices can be higher than many super markets. However, many of the ingredients are higher quality and better freshness. I have gotten strawberries from here, BJ's, and Shop Rite, and by far the Fresh Acres strawberries have lasted longer and been equally priced. If it is more mainstream things, like yogurt, milk, you aren't going to get any deals here though. I was able to find tahini here which is difficult to find. They also have an array of hummus, though not "cheap", there are different flavors that I can't find at a regular supermarket. They have a whole variety of meats as well (can't comment on them since I don't eat meat any more), but they are organic and grass fed, if you're into that sort of thing. Their breads are also super yummy! Prepared foods: THIS is the highlight of Fresh Acres. Their pizza is AMAZING. It is super thin crust, made in their brick oven pizza. I love their pizza. However, since getting a pizza stone, I make my pizza at home a lot now. I still buy their dough though because it is the best.dough.ever. I've tried making dough at home several times and it just never equals Fresh Acres. Shop Rite's dough doesn't equal Fresh Acre's. Nothing. does. Moving aloonnng....I've also enjoyed their premade indian dishes. Nothing to brag home about, mostly because I like it spicy and it didn't really satisfy that craving. The spices are good though, so if you like it mild, go for it. Their soups are also delicious. I can never resist their clam chowder. I like how you can pour it on your own. If there only seems to be broth in the container, that's because I took all the clams and potatoes - sorry folks! Salads are fresh and varied. Delicious sushi too. The sushi chef is super nice and will put a sauce on anything if you want it. I am obsessed with eel sauce, so I always ask him to put it on the roll I like. They are reasonably priced, but don't expect it to be much cheaper than the restaurants. Finally, they have La Fiorentina's cannolis (and other baked treats) which are sooo delicious and much more convenient for me to get at Fresh Acre's while I'm right down the street at school, than to drive into Longmeadow or downtown Springfield. WIN! Oh! Almost forgot...also tried their gelato. Only a dollop as a sample...it was too cold to get an entire serving but I couldn't say no to a sample right? We live right around the corner from Fresh Acres. This point is important to consider when you think about how close you want a market in your neighborhood, and how big it should be. Fresh Acres is small enough where you don't have to wander through a couple of dozen aisles to find maybe 3 items you forgot for dinner. You can find what you're looking for quickly and easily, and don't have to hike across huge warehouses to find it. The produce section is *always* impeccable. Whomever they have working the display of the veggies deserves a raise - it's always most impressive, and I'm always happy to walk into through store through the produce section. I also love the opened-front of the door, even in winter. Kudos for that detail! Fresh Acres, while seemingly a little sister of Big Y, accomplishes the intimate atmosphere of the old-fashioned corner grocer. I, for one, am grateful for that. Their stone pie department makes great stone pies, but we've had some bad experiences with ordering online and getting what we wanted. When the manager offered to do our next order on the house via email, all I had was an email from him, and the shift manager wouldn't accept it. Classy, guys. The prices are about what you'd pay at Big Y or Stop 'n Shop, though. It's not quite as expensive as Whole Foods, but they have some of that quality in them, and we appreciate that as customers. Overall, we're very happy to have Fresh Acres in the neighborhood. We're also very grateful. This is a fantastic local market. They carry a wide array of fresh flowers, fruit, natural foods and healthy prepared meals. They also have foods that can't be found in most stores such as many gluten free options and locally sourced foods. If you're looking for extremely fresh fruit or meat then this is definitely a place you should check out. They also have beautiful flowers during the warmer seasons. This place is pretty solid and comparable to Whole Foods for quality whilst being a bit cheaper. Great local options for produce, delicious in house made apple cider donuts (some of the best donuts I've ever had) tea, and various bulk spices. Like Whole Foods (whole paycheck), you probably won't be buying everything from here, but for meats, cheeses, produce and items made in house (amazing sandwiches, sides, and dinner entrees), you'd be hard pressed to find something remotely comparable at your average grocery store. I've only been a few times when we happen to be in the area, and each time we always get something pre made for a snack and/or meal. This time we opted for the Muffaletta and a Cuban that were both heated on the press. Muffaletta was amazing, and the Cuban was decent. Definitely nice to have delicious options available if looking to streamline your day and you're already there picking up a few items. Be sure to check this place out. I've been shopping at Fresh acres for quite some time it is a great place to go for a variety of different things for the most part their food is fresh and enticing sometimes the hot bar that is provided there is not kept up I have been in the food business for about 14 years I am very picky about what my food looks like and how it is presented as well as taste. There are times that I have gone in there and stuff has not been rotated broccoli is brown stuff is dried out and just does not look appealing. I know you are not going to find a "spa-like" grocery shopping experience in Springfield. This place, I will admit, does come close (dim lighting, not crowded, chances to splurge on exotic items). However, remember that this is not a small mom & pop farm stand, or a local organic grocery, or even a mega natural foods warehouse. It is in fact the worst of all these things. Horrible experience... ordered our thanksgiving for the first time so that we would be able to enjoy more time with our family. We ordered a meal that is supposed to feed 10-12 people. To start the turkey is pretty much frozen and looks uncooked...cranberry sauce(they gave us a can), sides were in small containers definitely not enough for 10-12 people. I spoke to the manager roger who's only response was that he feeds that meal to his own family. We normally shop here 3-4 times a week but after this I don't know if we will be back. I asked a million questions before ordering the meal which my the way was almost $100. They didn't care all they wanted was name and pick up time no questions regarding allergies or even telling us what the process is or what would need to be cooked or anything. Stopped in yesterday for some groceries, and the customer service was incredible. Two ladies were very helpful when I needed some direction. The icing on the cake was the young gentleman at the register. I forgot his name, but he was tall, thin, lightskinned, and so very nice to an incredibly rude customer. I was so impressed at how he kept his patience and smile throughout the whole bitter exchange. She was acting entitled and very nasty to him, but he kept his cool. When it was my turn I had to compliment him on that, and he smiled at me and provided the same excellent service as he had to the rude woman. read more

This place is by far the best specialty supermarket in the area. It has almost everything you can think of. We also stop in for lunch, the soups, salads and sandwiches are always satisfying and delicious. They even have a hot bar with food. They have pasta salads for lunch and focaccia breads. They even have food you can take home for dinner. You can even stop in for coffee, donuts, Danishes and such. They make homemade apple cider donuts that are to die for. The organic produce section is great and reasonable. They can be pricey but they have no competition so they can charge what they want read more
