I stopped by Pajers on a Sunday morning around 9am to check them out. A buddy of mine shared some homemade Italian sausage from Pajers that was delicious, so I made the trip. Cute little shop with a ton of Italian foods of all descriptions. Stood at the deli counter for a little while before one of the three people working behind the counter actually noticed my 6'4" 300 plus pound frame. Even though there was only one other person besides me being helped. I was excited to see that they had homemade salami on the menu so I decided to get a whole grinder. The young lady who was helping me seemed somewhat bothered that she had to wait on me. I ordered my grinder and made a quick change to it BEFORE she started making it and her disappointment was very apparent with her body language. Whatever, it was quite humerus actually. That kind of thing doesn't really bother me. Also picked up some sausage, antipasto salad, etc as well. As far as the grinder goes the homemade salami was delicious and an excellent choice. The grinder roll is massive which is what I think people are so hypnotized with when they mention the Pajers grinders are "huge". Don't get me wrong, there was plenty of meat but its large size is mostly due to the massive roll. Still, it was worth the $18 in my opinion. Cash only, so be aware of that. If you're in the area it's worth stopping by, not too sure I'd drive too far out of the way to stop in there though. Also, be prepared for some potential "spicy" customer service. Perhaps they treat their regular customers better, who knows? read more

This place is a tiny little hole in the wall with wood floors just like the little shops o visited in Italy and it is great. They have American and authentic imported Italian meats and they can slice them paper thin if you want. they also make their own in-house salami. Maybe the biggest draw is the subs! Every one I've tried has been better than the last. They are absolutely stuffed with high quality meats and cheeses and they are HUGE! I get the half sub and it is plenty for a meal, sometimes two. I am dying to try the meatball grinder. They use traditional grinder rolls which are a lot of bread, but you need that much bread to hold all the sandwich contents. Sometimes when I eat the second half of my small sub, i will switch the ingredients to a different bread , like ciabatta bread and that great too. I come here whenever i am in town and it is a highlight of my trip. The folks who work there are really nice and accommodating as well. It is definitely a place to make a special trip to try. Thank you Shane for making me aware of this truly spectacular place. Yes its an Italian grocery with all sorts of canned and bottled goods. Yes it has a large refrigerated case for home-made entrees, sauces, soups, etc, yes you can buy a bag of pasta as big as a pillow for $5, but the real star of this show is the crazy gigantic and CHEAP grinders. Prices are $4.50 or $5 for a small and $9 or $10 for a large. We ordered two smalls- a ham and cheese and an Italian Combo. The size of these things are stupendous my small Combo was 4" wide, 8 " long and had a ton of cold cuts on it. It was sooooo good. The lettuce, tomato, and onion were crisp and fresh, the cheese tasted great also. A "small" grinder can easily feed two for lunch. I cut mine in half and saved the rest for tomorrow. Two meals for $5 -can ya dig it? We also bought a nice slab of lasagna for just $3.39. It had meatballs and sausage in there. What a fabulous value. Another reason why I love YELP, because otherwise I never would have known this place existed. read more

I would like to thank Pajers - great job to Mike and Freddy for the Low Sodium Sweet Sausage that I special ordered.....they were delicious!!! I have to be on a low sodium diet and my Husband due to blood pressure. I found out that Pajer's will work with you on orders. I had to buy 10 lbs - approx. 30 - 40 sausages which I ended up freezing and splitting with my Son's family. It does freeze very good. Thanks again Pajer's for the great serves!!! My favorite small deli in the Springfield area. Reasonable, and often amazingly reasonable prices in everything. Excellent variety of fresh olives including kalmata & delicious Greek olives. Fresh cold cuts to go or served on fresh bread as oversized grinders. They make great hit grinders as well. Normally very reasonable prices on Corando bacon, sliced pepperoni, rare roast beef and more Their site prepared and fresh frozen Italian foods have been quite good as well. I think their homemade Italian Sausage is very good and reasonably priced. They also have a nice selection of other Italian Imported products at fair prices. I strictly base my rating on that...not on service. The grinder I had was 'meh'. I wouldn't drive out of my way for it, even if it was super sized. They only take cash. I've been coming here since 1969 ..The best grinders In the State. Do I wish their bread was like before , yes we all do , but they make a giant cold cut grinder with great meats and cheese. They have everything Italian there fresh made sausages that are the real deal , not all fat. The prices are decent too. I have never been disappointed! I recommend this place to anyone who will listen. I have never seen such great deals nowadays and they put SO MUCH meat on their grinders i wonder how they make a profit. Sometimes its too tall for one bite and the produce is always fresh. It is however a cash only business so stop at the bank first! My favorite thing is their large cold cut sub (its misleading because its more like the italian hero from subway) but its insane. Under $12 and it feeds our family of 3 nicely. Thats cheaper than subway with better quailty and more meat, cant beat that! And the bread always tastes and feels like they either bake or buy daily (idk if they do but it seems it) The place is small so drive slowly and keep an eye out. Theres only like 4 spots in its miniscule parking lot infront of the building but the foot trafic is fast and in a pinch weve parked on the side of the building. Leaving the lot can be tricky because of its placement at an intersection but thag really has nothing to do with the business' performance. read more

Whenever I am in town I go to Pajer's to get the grinder I've dreamed about. They have never let me down. They are still a deal and the best grinders you can eat. Try their home made pepperoni. Got a small turkey grinder. Size of the sandwich was pretty big, so that was a plus. They can't put pickles on sandwiches, even though they sell them separately. Once I bit into the sandwich, I was disappointed. The turkey was really dry and there wasn't much flavor to the sandwich overall. The bread was the best part of the sandwich. And they only take cash....not a big deal, but it's 2017. Get a credit card machine or use the Square app, or something similar. read more

This spot for a deal of time I didn't even know existed & mostly the one I knew of was Frigo's in Springfield, MA but as of this review I'm now corrected They got a variety of sandwiches whether be cold or hot ones & the bread is fresh & there's plenty of variety no matter what you're looking for in terms of coffee, pickled-jarred foods, meats by the pound etc... My stepdad's family is from Agawam so I grew up loving this place. Fond memories... like when I was 11 or so and they ran out of their hot sausage. They substituted the sweet and a seeming handful of hot pepper flakes. Damn, I drank a lot of water that night... This was back in the days when I still called a sub a grinder and was none the wiser. Serious good times. So... don't tell my out-of-state lady friend to whom I hyped this place up something fierce, but I was a little disappointed when I came back for the first time in a decade or so. The biggest problem was, despite the fact that it was not a cold-cut sub, it wasn't terribly warm. The bread wasn't toasted, the cheese wasn't completely melted, and the marinara sauce wasn't exactly burning the roof of my mouth. The sausage itself was excellent, as always, although it ran at about the temperature of Italian leftovers. All that said, you get a lot for your buck. Coming from California, where Subway can run as high as $7, it was nice getting reacquainted with Pajer's. That said, given that the volume is mostly comprised of the bread, carbophobes should stay clear. Summary: It's hot and it's cold. Yes and then no. read more

They have a good variety of deli items for sale as well, which I have not tried yet but they are also inexpensive in price. Bring cash. read more

A friend brought me here when I was in Agawam a few years ago. It is still one of the most memorable grinders I've had. Never disappointed absolutely amazing food! From the salads, grinders , deli meats, other meats and on and on they are awesome. If you leave here disappointed I really don't know what to say. You want top quality food, made by excellent staff well than swing on in, don't be worried if they are busy things move right along, parking may be tight but just find a spot and get your butt in here. They always got different stuff, stock moves around a lot so you'll get fresh quality stuff, check out the freezers when first walk in the chicken pot pies are awesome!! read more

Where do I start with Pajer's? They're a local legend. Their huge grinders could feed a family, and they taste great. Their ready to go pasta, soup, and entrees are a huge time saver, are priced very reasonably, and are delicious. Their frozen and grocery goods are also wonderfully priced, as are their deli items, and the whole place has a great feel - like a place out of its time. So, then, why only four stars? Well, as a family run business, they can't be open all the time -- they close early on Monday and are closed entirely on Tuesday. For some reason, I always seem to crave Pajer's when they're closed. The other reason is that they don't accept credit or debit cards. I understand the reason for this, but it's an inconvenience, especially since it's a bit of a walk to the bank from their location. My friend and I were talking about local eateries on a recent day trip and he was flabbergasted that I had never tried/heard of this place. After his profuse praise and compliments I was itching to give this place a try. Yesterday the wife and I gave this place a shot for lunch. The intersection where this is located is down right retarded (if you've been there you know what I'm talking about), we managed to park without getting into an accident... bonus. Ambiance/Staff: Once you walk in the door you'll have the register to your left along with some refrigerated sections that house drinks and pre-made food like meatballs, lasagna, and other various meats/cheeses and on your right are various italian dry goods. In the back is where you will order sandwiches and premade sides. There isn't any seating, so you'll have to eat your food elsewhere. The staff was average, not a lot to say on this front. Food: The menu choices are relatively small and I would say they had about 6 sides to choose from. We opted for a large hot italian and 1/2 pound of antipasto. I was a little taken aback by the size of this thing... it was monstrous. I kind of regretted ordering the antipasto as it was completely unnecessary given the size of this sandwich. On the drive home I tried to center the sandwich in the middle of the vehicle to ensure even weight distribution. Once we got home we quartered the sandwich and got to eating. Overall the sandwich wasn't horrible. The meat portion was very generous, the topping were average, the oil and vinegar was way too light, and the bread left alot to be desired. Just really subpar bread that was pretty tasteless and a little hard that really took away from a barely better than mediocre sandwich as it is. The antipasto was an abomination. My lady had the 1st bite and promptly spit it out. I know you're thinking "so how do you really know if it was bad?". Well in the interest of thoroughness and my incredulity that an Italian place could F up antipasto I took a tentative bite. Yep really bad. I honestly can't even verbalize the taste that made it awful it was just really off putting so try at your own risk. Bottom Line: While you do get a metric butt ton of food for your money I can't in good conscience recommend this place. If you do check it out, I would say proceed with caution and under no circumstances should you get the antipasto unless your intention is to prank an unwitting person you don't like very much. read more

i LOVE most things at Pajers! I love looking at the random canned and bottled goods as well as the awesome CHEAP things in the freezer section. My husband and I love to come here on the weekend (when we have cash!!!) and get grinders or some antipasta to go. We have also purchased the ground beef from here which was super cheap compared to local supermarkets! I can't really say if the staff was overly friendly or not, but the price would be more important to me than that. It is pretty annoying that they don't take credit or debit, but it's a hole in the wall shop with amazing food-- I'll stop at the ATM on my way! The location in Agawam is pretty convenient for me, but the intersection is super annoying and you just have to pray when you back out of the parking lot that other cars aren't coming! read more
