Barely pushes the four-star. It was fun to snoop and compare it to Kroger, Safeway/Albertsons, Aldi, Trader Joes, and indie world markets. The variety and presentation of foods was very good. The prices, whew. On the high side, but it's tougher now to keep up with what must be a nightmare of price changes. Nonetheless, there was attention paid to stocking a wide variety of foods. You could go to Sam's Club and get broccolini for about a third of the price. Trader Joe's has the same sweet Vidalias for about a third less. You can't find the vegan substitutes at either Sam's or TJ's. There are good fresh fish and mussels/clams/etc. I picked up some "Norwegian" cod (probably Icelandic) that was fresh and stellar. We found exactly what we needed; the prices were a little high but we also felt it unusual to find the variety we did. This has a price and we paid it. It could be less expensive, but then, they'll have high competition from the Aldi's going up across the street soon; perhaps that will temper the prices, but we hope it doesn't temper the variety, which was pretty darn good. read more

I'd like to say I truly enjoyed the convenience and closeness I had while having my prescriptions refilled at this location until recently. Mind you I work overnight shifts and travel often for work for health and human services as a paramedic. So the convenience was very much appreciated especially when I drive 45 minutes to and from work. But as of recently I'm not sure why since it took forever to get some explanation why I'm being targeted, granted I've always paid out of pocket because it causes less of a delay on picking up my medications, and it's actually more affordable because my health insurance sucks so I don't utilize that. Plus the discount for paying out of pocket made more sense. But as of recently Rachelle, the large lady who has been nothing but rude to me suddenly states she can't fill my prescriptions, yes I understand it's just my regular Adderall that I take as needed especially during classes while out of state and it helps me. But I'm suddenly told she can't fill it because she needs to talk to my prescriber and that I'm suspicious. I've been coming here for over a year, not once abused any sort of medications because I would lose my job on top of my job with the government, and suddenly she tells me I'm suspicious and won't fill it. When she does talk to my prescriber she's just as rude when I heard what she told her. Absolutely agitated and felt completely upset that she assumed I was someone who would be suspicious. Now I'd like to say because of that rude troll Rachelle, which by the way you can probably encourage her for better hygiene due to her breath and tartar and self care, I have not had my medication for over a month and it has been nothing but a struggle because of her assumptions and suddenly targeting me after going there for over a year with absolutely no problems! Though I'd like to say I have not had any problems with other persons in this pharmacy, I'd like to a commend Lee, Sam, And Ed for all being kind, patient and never once made me feel like I was being profiled as well as the kind small talk and interactions. You 3 are much appreciate and I'm sorry your stuck working with a tyrant. read more

I stopped in at Big Y to pick up some stuff for breakfast. My cousin was making us Frittata's - and we needed spinach and mushrooms. I stopped in to pick up the spinach and mushrooms - and managed to score an organic offering for both! I also picked up some butter, Coconut oil, and Sriracha sauce... Great grocery store! This place was huge! Stopped in here to get stuff for a picnic lunch while on a romantic weekend getaway. On the outside, the sign says "sandwiches" so I knew I'd come to a good place. Walking in, I was overwhelmed by the baked goods. Not to mention the size of the departments. There was a fruits and veggies section the size of an entire store in NYC! Making my way to the sandwich section, I came upon a lone server who was making a very long sandwich, but without much enthusiasm. I hope whoever the sandwich was for couldn't taste the apathy. When she got around to acknowledging us, she made the sandwiches efficiently. They tasted okay. That was about it. I wandered around the store for a bit, eyes agog, mouth open, just amazed at the variety and number of items they had. Shopping there must be like a dream. It is a cool place and I almost went four stars, but the sandwich lady kind of brought me down so I am sticking with three. That means it is okay, and this place if definitely okay. read more

I shop at the Greenfield store when the sales are good, which is often. The store is nice and clean and large, but the prices are too high for non-sale items. But my biggest issue is its website and trying to load their digital coupons. If you look at the flier version, they show the digital coupons on page one, but they do not allow you to load them and there. On the product view where you can load them, they are nowhere to be found. It takes half an hour to find where you can load them. Their website is by far the worst of any supermarket chain and a very painful experience to use. read more

Used to shop here all the time, but now go to S&Shop more often. It's cleaner and better stocked. Big Y's lines are ridiculously long. Also, cannot stand all the digital coupons, bells and whistles. If an item is on sale, then sell it at that price. Period. Wish we had a Price Chopper near by. Finally, I am shopping more at farm stands. The butchers here are lazy. Twice I have asked to have a whole chicken spatchcocked and twice they left the spine in. Today I specifically asked for the spine to be remove and was told he would only cut the chicken in half but not remove the spine. What is the point of doing half the job? Going to find a proper butcher and not buy meat from here again. I received a response from big y stating they would make there butchers aware of this type of cut. NEWS flash they know, there was a tray of pre marinated spatchcocked chicken in the display directly in front of me (labeled as being spatchcocked) when I requested mine be cut up the same way. I'm not one to get too excited by grocery shopping; this store helps get over that. We've stopped here a number of times on our way back from VT to pick up groceries for the week. The area you walk into is really large; veggies, fruit, prepared meals and easy to navigate. The real gem is off to the right when you walk in...a well stocked beer and wine section. Prices aren't too bad there, but make sure you know your prices. If you are in the SoVT I-91 corridor, some good deals can be had over the line in NH. But the selection here is good! And the local craft beer choices are pretty darn impressive. Overall, an easy store to navigate. I do wish the isles were a bit bigger, but that's a minor request. They seem to have an adequate number of registers open regardless of what day and time we show up here. Our last visit was on a Sunday afternoon and the checkout was rather quick, despite it most likely being a "peak demand" time. Good thing they don't have surge pricing. All in all, a good store with a good selection! Prices are reasonable as well. Especially if you shop the sales and have a rewards card. read more

My wife and I have been shopping here for years. As I unpacked my groceries last time, I came across the large package of ice the fish person had given me upon request since I forgot the reusable ice-packs I usually bring. That triggered me to think about all of the nice, helpful people who work there. Even with the now typical staff-shortages in so many stores, there almost always seems to be someone I can find if I'm looking for something unusual or have a question. Like when I couldn't find a premium vanilla ice cream and the person filling the freezers told me the Big Y brand was actually really good. And he was right. It's what I always buy now instead of B&J's (recently rated best of its kind). Almost everyone is friendly and helpful. And, the selection is better than the other large markets (there are some things I do prefer to get from the Co-op though). The fish and produce are very fresh and there's a good selection (I do wish they carried fresh, wild-caught salmon more often but it's so pricy now they told me it doesn't sell enough). I have some things I could quibble about- it should be easier to offer suggestions somewhere for instance. I did once ask for double chocolate Talenti and was told how odd the control is over such things by suppliers, but it's stocked now. Great liquor selection too. I see some negative comments about some things so I guess not everyone feels this way but I appreciate having this store in the area and it's my weekly place to go. No, I don't work there, have no relatives who work there and I rarely post such reviews. Just struck me that I do appreciate it and figured I'd share it so whatever manager reads it will share it with the employees. read more

Bought one dozen roses for my wife's birthday. Package comes pre-wrapped for convenience. Upon presenting them to my wife, fully half the stems were broken to where roses were wilting by the next morning. Went in this morning to Big Y to get some food for our Super Bowl get together, and was happy with my transactions. I purchased a Vince Wilfork "In-Vince-Ible" pizza which was great. The toppings were all fresh, and the staff making the pizzas were polite and efficient even though they were extremely busy. We also bought some wings, which we tried before the game, and they were delicious as well. We bought both BBQ and Buffalo, and they were seasoned perfectly. Even though the groceries at times a bit expensive, the quality is great, and the staff is extremely polite and helpful. Also, if you are looking for some grocery store sushi, the sushi here at this location is great as well. read more

Dont go there any time if you want to save money, the prices are considerably higher then across town at Stop and Shop. On the bright side, the deli and meat dept are far superior to S&S. The supermarket itself is actually great--clean, gorgeous produce, well-stocked. But the parking lot is Awful. You'd think, "who even Notes the parking lot?" But it is That awful. I always think about the parking lot & how bad its gonna be if i need to come here. Whoever designed it was clearly on something. Its just incredibly poorly designed, incursions happen daily, visibility sucks, as a result people get crotchety if not act like total lunatics. There are bollards in the Most annoying/irritating/bizarre places so you cant even pull through many of the spots. Stupid. It was contracted separately from the market. read more

Bad grocery store, covidiot customers and indifferent staff. You can tell management is criminal because they think eggs in a plastic box is a good idea. Also, they mislabel garbage in their bakery as French Bread. The cheese and specialty meat selection sucks and is overpriced. All the local Whole Foods type places have better prices and selection. What a bloodsucking leach on the community Big Y is. Oh yeah, the beef is died red and the produce is overwatered so it rots early at home. Finally, never think you'll get decent avocados here. The prices aren't all that high (certainly lower than Stop & Slop), the selection is large (this being one of the titanic modern megamarkets), and the staff is at least courteous. They also have good deli options: they make subs, pizza and fish & chips on premises, each off of separate counters. The bakery is, frankly, excellent ... with a large selection, and items in from the famed La Fiorentina bakery in Springfield. What prevents higher marks from me is their buyer's club option. For $40 a year, you can get a "silver card" which gives good savings on designated items. This is nominally a good deal, but ours has been chronically screwed up, and several trips to the customer service counter hasn't provided a permanent solution. One would think this was an aspect of their business that oughn't need so many tries to still not get right. read more

Prices are high, this is nothing out of the ordinary for this supermarket chain. This is the last big supermarket before trekking to Mount Snow, so stock up here where the selection and quality are both good. This is now my favorite place to shop. The produce is good, they have lots of cheese, they added more organic items, you can grind your own PB, and the meat and seafood sections are great! They now have a huge beer and alcohol section, with better prices than you'll find at other stores in the area. The store is always clean. I never have to wait in line to check out. The employees are super nice. I still try to only buy things on sale but it's easier now than when you relied on just the coin system. I shop here several times a week. read more

So let me just start off by saying there is a huge selection of food here. Lots of very good beers, liquor, meats, their pizza is good. However every single time I have bought produce here I've found it to be rotten when I get home (one time it was rotten just under the label. Another time it was in the center of a package of tomato's. Now I only like about 20 minutes away but hats a difference when you have to go back and return a package of baby spinach or grape tomatoes. I would stay away from the produce. But I will continue to shop here for other things. Also waiting on the pizza takes forever (ordered twice and had to wait an extra 30 minutes not a big deal because I didn't have my toddler but I'm just giving a heads up if you do shop with your kids.) like I said it's very convenient as Massachusetts is a package state so you can buy all your spirits here. The cakes are very good, and reasonably priced, however I have gotten fresher produce for cheaper at Market Basket, Hannafords, and even Walmart. Honestly if you can buy your perishable items elsewhere I recommend it. read more

Prices are high and the TV they had in the area where you can eat food was always tuned to the Fox News Channel. Always.

Once again I've gone to Big Y in Greenfield, MA (01301) to return bottles and found that the bottle return bins were full once again. This seems to be a recurring theme as each time I go there, I must hit the call button for help. Workers are taken from their regular tasks and therefore it takes them 5 to 10 minutes to come out and help me or anyone else in there at the time. It seems to me there should be someone regularly assigned to checking the recycling room so that this isn't such a constant issue. Not only did the employee have to be taken from his regular work but the bin was too small for the amount of bottles that the machine had accepted. Bottles littered onto the floor when he opened up the machine. He was not wearing any protective gear in case there was broken glass. This is a continuing issue not only for me but a safety hazard for the employees. This has been happening for years, not weeks or months. This is a serious ongoing issue for the health department and this neglect by the local management should be addressed by the home office of Big Y. read more

I've been shopping here weekly since 2006 and thought it was time to give them a shout out. I LOVE Big Y!!! The produce is fresh and locally-grown. Baked goods are also tasty and nicely presented, and a good many items come from local bakeries. Meats, fish and deli are standard; always well stocked. Decent beer and wine selection here, too. (Though I REALLY miss Table & Vine's former Noho location!). The Big Y branded products I have tried have also been surprisingly good, especially the salsa. The store is always clean; they've got plenty of employees on cash registers to make checking out hassle-free, even when it's super busy. Friendly people, too. I find their prices are less than or equivalent to Stop &Shop, Shaw's, Foodmaster (in Boston area). And, I'm a silver card member, so I automatically get the "silver coin" deals of the week. Also, they frequently sell "buy one, get two" items! That's a bargain in today's economy. read more
