We love some of the food at Hagers and have been coming almost daily since April when we moved here from Lexington, MA. The service is comically bad with youngish kids at the counter who have not been trained, are slow and not at all welcoming. There are new faces in there every day. My last trip was earlier this week when my order was rung up at $10.51. I rarely use cash but had $11 and asked the young and confused employee if I could take a penny out of the tip jar so I could have 2 quarters change for parking meters. The minute I laid hands on that thing, a blonde haired middle aged woman literally flew out of the back and told me to get my hand out of the tip jar. Kinda chuckled and said Do you think I'm a thief?" Mind you, I am an elderly, completely respectable woman. I told her the girl had given me permission to get a penny ( waited for her to volunteer but she was too clueless). She said she hadn't heard that and to NEVER touch the tip jar. Maybe there has been theft before? But by an older daily customer? I was humiliated and terribly upset, especially as a long line of customers looked on. I am asking for an apology. read more

I stopped in for a bite at lunch. When I first walked in, I was met with the wonderful smell of fresh baked bread and cinnamon. The store is much bigger than I thought and packed with all types of items like maple syrup, soft drinks, some grocery items, and a really nice bakery with pies, muffins, donuts, and much more. They also offer a selection of breakfast sandwiches, luncheon items, and soups. I am a vegetarian and didn't find too much available, but I did end up having a grilled cheese. Update to my previous review. Went back to Hager's to have lunch and pick up pies I ordered. No confusion with the staff this time. Pancakes were excellent, some of the best I've ever tasted. The pies are almost as good as the pies my Mom used to make, and thatr's a high standard to meet. Maple pudding, maple mousse, coconut cream, and apple crumb are all delicious, plus the prices are reasonable. Also can't forget the huge maple cream iced cinnamon rolls. Such a great market!! Inside had lots of goodies, but the donut hut was my favorite part. I got two apple cider donuts- one with cinnamon sugar and the other just plain sugar. Their cider donuts are made fresh and are much more fried than the ones I usually encounter- so crispier on the outside- but actually feel so much less heavy in my tummy than other cider donuts I've had! I really loved the cinnamon sugar cider donut that I had for the twist in flavor but the classic sugar was also amazing. I need to come back to try the maple soft serve!! read more

Hager's Farm Market is located on The Mohawk Trail between Greenfield and Shelburne Falls, MA. It's a "Farmer's Market" that offers a variety of fruits and vegetables, locally produced eggs, meats, nuts, ice cream, and a selection of other foods: jellies, sauces. They also sell wine, soda, water, beer, coffee, tea. You can also come in and order breakfast, soups in the afternoon. I love Hagers. The breakfast sandwiches are amazing. The market itself is fabulous. The bread is wonderful. We love to sit in the orchard and relax. The apple picking for the kids is great. I only have one issue. The baked goods are basically awful. The muffins are an oily mess and the pie crust is the absolute opposite of what pie crust should be. So while I love this place, I only buy my baked goods from Pine Hill. Same price and unbelievably better. But Hagers had the better sandwiches. but Pine Hill has the best coffee. So we just go to both. But never baked goods from here. Never ever. read more

A great spot for Maple soft serve! A classic road side farm market with great soups and desserts

This afternoon we stopped in at Hager's Farm Market for lunch after having passed by this shop what seems like a million times. When we pulled in we didn't know what to expect since it was our first visit, but we quickly fell in love with the store. The store itself was packed with a great variety of locally grown and handmade items. To top it off, the smell coming from their bakery goods was so tantalizing we could barely stand not eating everything in the display case. We ended up buying a few samdwiches, an order of french fries as well as mozzarella sticks. Everything was freshly made, the fries were perfectly cooked, and the sandwich bread was incredible. Overall, we loved the food and when my wife had one of their soft serve ice creams she thought it was the best in the area. read more

Much More Than You Ever Expected Yep...I am joining the rest of the reviewers so far and letting you know that as of November 17, 2012, this place is still fantastic. This is a no-brainer. You have to stop here and check this place out. This is a farm store at its best...fresh fruits and veggies, local maple syrup, meats, dairy products and cider, specialty beers and wines. There were so many homemade baked goods...cookies, pies (10+ kinds), breads (12+ kinds), pastries, muffins...the list goes on and on. The pumpkin whoopie pies looked amazing. The staff are super duper friendly and helpful. This place is really enjoyed by the locals, which is always a good sign. They were packed in there, some enjoying lunch and others coming in to pick up boxes of pastries. The owner was there during my visit and obviously knew most of her patrons. Everyone was referring to each other by their first names. Lots of smiles and laughter. This place has a nice welcoming and friendly feel. I stopped in to order homemade pies for Thanksgiving because of a radio ad that I had heard earlier in the week. Sounded too good to pass up. Pecan, coconut custard and pumpkin were my choices. I grabbed a bite to eat since it was lunch time. Had the Maple Oinker which was very good...ham, cheddar, dijon mustard, maple syrup, grilled onions on homemade bread. Also had a small order of the hot and crispy homemade french fries and washed everything down with local apple cider. Honestly it was too much for me to eat. On my way out I grabbed a bag of apple cider donuts. They smelled so good that even though I was full from lunch, I immediately enjoyed one at home with a cup of hot coffee. They were good-god-good. I have passed by Hager's for years on route 2 and have watched the building grow and grow. This was my first visit, but will be back again and again. Check out their website. They seem to be very socially responsible... focused on the environment with their efforts to be more energy efficient...committed to the community with their fund raisers for local groups. Do not be deterred by their claims of local and homemade- everything is so so so reasonably priced you almost can't believe it was made in house and sourced from local farms! I walked in expecting to pay a dollar or two more for every single thing I bought because of the quality but was surprised with the cheapest prices I've seen in this area. Dairy that is local...basically almost all the product they carry is local. LOVE IT! Stop on your way home for dinner ingredients. Stop for a snack if you are hungry. There are prepared foods like; all beef hotdogs, ice cream, fresh baked cookies (with chocolate chips oozing) and blueberry squares. I was in line purchasing; corn on the cob, summer sausage from Vermont, kale, peaches, cukes, peanut butter and honey. Those around me had; fresh baked whole pies, wild blueberries, beef ribs. It's a feast for the senses AND your wallet...prices reflected the premium of buying local quality but weren't off the charts...I found it all very reasonable! It is basically a little farm shop that serves lunch and dessert and a ton of fresh produce and bakery items. We stopped for lunch so we decided to split a couple of items: Chicken salad on Dill/Garlic Bread (3.5 stars): This sandwich was especially refreshing on such a hot day, but it lacked a little bit in the flavor department. Also, while I was excited about the bread flavor combination, it was not very strong either. Turkey Day special on Rye (4 stars): This was my preference among the sandwiches as it had some sweetness and paired nicely with the rye. Both sandwiches were a good size, especially considering the price. Dessert Pecan pie bar (3.5 stars): Again, I felt like this had a solid base, but it just lacked that extra kick of flavor. Raspberry Chip Ice cream (4.5 stars): We both love this flavor and this version did not disappoint. Overall, this place is a cute spot to stop in for a quick bite to eat. Its been two years since I wrote my review and every visit to Hager's has only made me love it more. We go there regularly for the most delicious omelets and french toast we've ever had. The breakfast there is so amazing and inexpensive, especially since most of the food they have there is locally sourced. Hager's is a regular stop in our grocery routine, and I can't help but stop by when I'm drive up Route 2 for a cup of hot coffee (they always have a great selection!) and one of their addictive pastries. The strawberry cheesecake pastry is ridiculously amazing! The best thing about Hager's is its always investing in itself and getting better! Definitely two thumbs up! read more

Hager's has a wonderful selection of local treats (ie. fresh produce, pickles, popcorn, milk, maple products, wine.. Etc.) that are absolutely worth a browse. Hager's also has incredible maple soft serve that is well-priced and served on the large side. Every Mother's Day I buy a hanging plant here and they always have a section of full, healthy plants. But perhaps the best deal of all at Hager's is their house-made bread at $4.50 for a large loaf. They have an extensive variety and I've loved every one I've tried so far! Love this market, and I always stop for gifts and their wines! However, today I bought four bottles of wine, and they weren't even placed in the bag with any protection between the bottles. When I arrived home two bottles broke and the specialty cheeses and products were covered in wine as was my car! I can't believe I haven't reviewed Hagers yet. It is AMAZING. I first heard about it in Yelp and within 2 days of moving to Western MA I went to check it out. I only live 10 minutes away but I love driving my Jeep up the hill. I know I'm weird. Anyway, the food is great. Everything is made to order. The sandwiches are simple but extremely delicious. Remind them to give you pickles. They make their breads there and have lots of flavors to make your mouth water. Garlic dill and red pepper feta? YES PLEASE. the breakfasts are also good. Pancakes are awesome and they serve their own maple syrup. Eggs are local and you can get them any way you want. I have trouble deciding between a veggie omelets or the breakfast special with scrambled eggs, pancakes and bacon. Coffee is not superb but not bad **full disclosure: I am a coffee snob and I make French press coffee every day at home. I have beans delivered to me from my hometown. It's hard to compare. **I have not come across a particularly creative meal but everything is consistently delicious. I always bring visitors here and they love it too. Pastries are yummy! They are open year round so produce pickins are slim in winter but abundant in summer. They even have fabulous soft serve. Their prices are reasonable too. Staff is friendly and accommodating. This is honestly one of my favorite places around. Sometimes I just stop to get an ice cream and wander around in the orchard. Hagers is most definitely not a secret. It's in a prime location and you should make sure you stop by when driving past. It's hard to miss. read more

Hager's is a great experience! They absolutely deliver what they promise in that they do things the old fashioned way. We recently ordered pies to feed 50 people at our son's wedding rehearsal BBQ. Karen was exceptionally gracious in accommodating all our needs. The pies were spectacular and a big hit. My personal favorite was the strawberry rhubarb, but, honestly, I wouldn't turn down any piece of Hager's pies. During the wedding week, my friend and I also ate lunch there. My family stopped her for takeout sandwiches on our way to Berkshire East for a day a skiing. It is right on route 2 so we didn't have to go out of our way at all. We order the club sandwich on the cheddar bread and the turkey maple sandwich on cheddar bread because they were out of the bread it came with. Both were delicious but both my husband and I preferred the club. The sandwiches are the size of normal bread which was fine for me but I think my husband would have preferred a larger sandwich. All of the staff were extremely helpful, friendly and patient as we asked questions about the menu. Next time we will come up earlier so we can try the breakfast menu as well. read more
