The Arcadia of smoked meats... This simple, almost diffident shop is tucked away in the Southern reaches of Deerfield... Kielbasa, pork loin, ham hocks... everything you would ever smoke with any success is here... and it's all done up perfectly in an honest to goodness authentic smokehouse... in addition it's doled out by a polite and preposterously knowledgeable staff... Pick a recipe that requires what Pekarski's has and go there to be completely rewarded... or simply wander in to be wondrously inspired as to your next culinary creation... no matter what it costs you you'll most likely ask them to repeat it - it can't be that affordable, not for the meat you see before you, it just can't... Call ahead as they are family run and hold less than robust hours around the holidays... Go here to pick up smoked meat that is as good as anyone anywhere has to offer... if you even think you like meat you will love Pekarski's...

Breakfast of Champions.

Boy I tell you. What a Find! An actual Diemand in the Rough (pun super intended, but totally over…read moreused, and I don't care) First and foremost, I'm a BBQ reveiwer, this place is traditionally a family turkey farm (pretty sure anyways) and they make the absolute BEST TURKEY AND CHICKEN POT PIES EVER!!!! They also have a bunch of other goodies for sale in their farm store. That being said, BBQ! I very randomly stumbled upon this place while attempting to get lost in the middle of Massachusetts one day. And I stopped in and grabbed a frozen pie to go and heard about this amazing cook out they do every other Monday from like June through August? Maybe September? Gotta check the schedule anyway. So you can go online to their website, click on the Smokehouse Dinners, chose one of their meal plans ( I believe it's Ribs, Chicken, Sausage, .... and one more thing, let me check ... OMG! They changed the Menu!!! Now it's a choice between Ribs, Chicken, BRISKET! OR A TURKEY LEG!?!?! I have To Go BACK NOW!!!) and they come with a cube cut of Awesome homemade corn bread (the ones with the kernels still juicy in the bread!) slice of watermelon, and all you can drink Ice tea and Lemonade, and your choice of 2 sides. Mac and Cheese (good old how grandma use to make it style!) Corn on the cob (oh yes!) I think they had a celery salad and a potato salad maybe? But now they offer roasted butternut squash! I loved my ribs, they weren't as big as I'm use to but they were cooked perfectly. I can tell a lot of love went into the smoking process. My partner had the chicken, it was a 1/2 smoked chicken smoked to perfection as well. So, this place is just a real gem of a place. It's almost like even though you bought a $20 ticket to be there, it feels a hell of a lot more like your friendly neighbors sent you an invitation to their fun backyard BBQ. They had a local string band playing traditional Irish and American tunes. We were all under a canopy tent with picnic tables. We chilled for awhile listening to the music, meeting the locals, watching the sunset over the mountains and all their cows in the fields, just sippin on some cool iced tea and lemonades while they put the finishing touches on the food. I was kinda disappointed they didn't have someone ringing a triangle when the food was ready. And afterwards they had Barts Ice Cream selling small little cups of only 3 of their flavors, I think $4 a cup? It was a very small portion and only 3 flavors, but I guess we were lucky to have even that, It's just one person who has to drag a cart all the way behind the house. You can go inside the farm store and they have some baked goods and some ice cream sandwiches and other yummy things. They brought they're pony or donkey out to say hi to everyone. All their cows came right up to the fence and started eating the piles of corn husks and we got to feed them and pet them too. It was just such a great evening with good people and such a small town welcoming kindness that's getting harder and harder to find now a days. Love the place, love the food, love the people. Awesome!!!

If you want to buy some, you should call ahead. For my first visit, I came by during their posted hours, and I read a sign to honk my horn to be helped. As Mr. Austin explained to me, he is around during the days/times posted, but he might working in one of their fields. (If he knows that you are going to visit, he'll plan to be in the area of the farm shop.) He was also kind enough to explain some basics about choosing meat for what I might want to cook. He was so helpful! I'd never bought meat directly from the source before, and I'd never set out to buy grass-fed beef before (but I've been getting more interested in knowing about food sources). Every weekday, I drive by the Austin's Farm on my way to work, and I can see how well the animals are kept, and how happy they are in their spacious fields. In a sense, it could seem morbid to see the animals that might end up on my table, but I'm actually glad to know that they are healthy cows who live good lives. And, I like knowing that my purchases directly help to keep a local farm family in business. Best of all, their food just tastes amazing!! I hope you'll stop by and give it a try!! Marinate them in a bit of lime and ginger, and grill them. DELICIOUS! They have fresh eggs too. They aren't those great little blue ones with the really bright yolks, but they are happy eggs, you can tell.

This review is for the CSA, compost delivery, and the maple syrup season pancake breakfasts…read more Our CSA experience got off to a rocky start because we had trouble paying our balance online because there wasn't an option for the right amount. But once that was sorted it has been pretty epic. Lots and lots of in-season fresh veggies, "market style" so you pick what you'll use more of, and the farm partners with a few places to offer some things they don't grow themselves (e.g. peaches). Pick up has been smooth and consistently easy. The only small downer has been the "pick your own" section in the lower fields. There's inadequate signage and a lot of times when we go to look for things on the week's board we can't find them or they are picked out. Once or twice l've seen other customers pick things not on the board which always makes us a little sad. This "added benefit" of the CSA has just mostly not worked for us. We had compost delivered by the farm once. Getting notified about the delivery took awhile, but once we were scheduled communication was clear and the delivered product has seemed to be excellent at helping our plants grow. Lastly, we have gone to the farm for pancake breakfasts with maple syrup. Go hungry! These pancake meals have been a good fit for our family: plenty to eat, casual and no frills, and tasty. We don't go regularly (because I can make pancakes at home) but it's a nice little splurge for a day when no one has to cook or clean.
