Stopped in this morning with friend, Demanding Dan. This place highly recommended by his friend, who lives in the area. Large assortment of smoked meats, and assorted condiments. Was looking to buy a kielbasa, but was specifically looking for one stuffed krajana style (Polish for chunky), not ground meat style. They only make the latter. I ended up with frozen packages (frozen, due to the long drive home) of Italian sweet sausage, Italian hot sausage, and bratwurst. Each priced at $10.49 / lb. For me, a bit steep. DD got breakfast sausage. Also, what seemed to be a side of beef. It was very heavy carrying it to my vehicle. He, who wears a Rolex watch (and drives a Lincoln!) also thought the prices were steep. He rated them 3 star, which is to be expected. He has, in fact, earned his reputation as Demanding Dan. If I lived a bit closer, would be interested in trying a few other things. And fresh, not frozen. Update - next day. I had one each of the hot and sweet Italian sausage. Very, very good. Nicely spiced, seems like lower fat content than store-bought. I don't live near this place, but have passed it in my travels for years now. I finally stopped and picked up a few things. I bought kielbasa and different types of pierogis. We had to freeze them for the trip back to Long Island. Everything we got was delicious. Nothing was overly salty like the store bought stuff. The next time up in Mass. I would like to stop and try different things. The people working there are very nice and accommodating. You will walk out smelling smoked meats for a little while. read more

Although I live in Springfield, I'm up in the Northampton/Greenfield corridor every week or so, and sometime last year I discovered Pekarski's Sausage. They carry a wide variety of sausages, from your typical sweet and hot Italian to kielbasa to bratwurst and knockwurst to andouille to just about anything else you could imagine. Not only do they have fresh sausage but also smoked, and recently they very savvily added a freezer to display some of the frozen items they carry at different times of the year. I've gotten smoked whole chickens from them and it was amazing. They also carry some typical condiments and asides (maple syrup, honey, BBQ and hot sauces) which is also very smart. It's not far off the beaten path, so I would definitely recommend dropping by if you are looking for sausages and the like. read more

This review is overdue! In January 2018, I was driving to the nearby covered bridge for a visit when I passed by Pekarski's. I thought, this would be a great gift to bring back to my family in California! So I stopped by on the way back to Boston. The lady helping me was so friendly and sweet. I bought four sausages and two Tyburski pies, baked locally, which were to share with my repeat AirBnB host. This was during the first blizzard of the year, so I was lucky that the snow had eased off for this one day during my visit. I'm glad I made the decision to come in! Our son & daughter-in-law live in Mass, so we get up here a couple times a year. Pekarski's is about 30 min north of where they are, so we always plan on driving up there first, "on the way", and fill up a cooler. Yes, everything in the sausage family is amazing; kielbasa, hotdogs, bratwurst, breakfast sausage, andouille, linguisa.The bacon is also great. But don't bypass the smoked whole chicken. It is out of this world. When we went this past time, there was also a fella delivering baked goods from Tyburski's Countryside Bakery. They place them all along the top of the two display cases. Bought some blueberry danish. WOW. Don't miss the chance to grab a couple of anything while you're there. Obviously homemade, and very fresh. Pekarski's meats are amazing, and will always be a stop on our trips up north. But be sure to plan accordingly. Take a BIG cooler, plenty of cash (no credit or debit cards) and try the baked goods. Driving up Rt. 116, you pass through farm fields and the bucolic Connecticut River Valley. Around one corner lies the large red sign bearing the Pekarski's name. The smell of smoke wafts gently along the road; it is a siren song for those carnivores who appreciate what a master can do with the pig. I have been making regular trips to Pekarski's for nearly 10 years -- starting with their call-out in Yankee magazine. We've driven from Boston, Worcester, Hartford, Williamstown, and from Dayton, OH or Richmond, VA to procure what has to be the best kielbasa in the Valley. Given that we live 600 miles away, our trip has become semi-annual, buying 10 or so ropes to stock the freezer with. Pekarski's is a hallowed name spoke in hushed tones and absolute reverence. For whatever reason, I almost always seem to end up going here when it's cooler out and when you first walk in, your met with the most amazing smell. It is something that when you close your eyes 5 years later, you can still smell it. I love the kielbasa, breakfast sausage, hot and sweet Italian sausage, hams. For something different one Thanksgiving, we ordered a 12 lb. Smoked Turkey. The meat was the best of any turkey I have ever had. It almost tasted like ham! It's one of those places that you stumble across either on your way somewhere else, or just driving thru the country. You are intrigued, stop, get something a little weird, and find you can't stop coming back. For me, it was the smoked hocks that did it. With them, my baked beans became stratospherically good, and I can never get enough. The funny part is that the hocks are seasonal. When I was there this weekend, I was told, in essence, that the pigs are still using them and they won't have hocks for a few more weeks (until the Thanksgiving hams are being made). The lovely woman behind the counter could have sold us everything in the store. Old world style smokehouse and meat shop you rarely see anymore. Smells like smoke right upon entering. You can't find most of these items at any grocery store. If you smoke it, they will come. No joking around, just straight up meats. No lunch service, just meat. Some local goods including, honey, pickled eggs, and pierogis. Grabbed sweet and hot sausage, and andouille sausage. They accept credit/debit. The older lady behind the counter was cold as ice, and seemed like she's ripped the heads off a few chickens in her time. They do use nitrates, which kind of sucks. Smoked sausage, kielbasa, duck, spare ribs, bratwurst, linguisa, chorizo, hot dogs, bacon, ham, etc. The place is a goddamn house of horrors for a vegetarian. OK OK OK. There's meat. There's BBQ. Then, there's smoking. It basically is long slow caresses by tendrils of smoke, teasing the meat into a state of pleasure that is unknown to most. But I digress, I don't this to read like a Penthouse Letter, even though the end result is the same. I saw the sign, while passing through Deerfield, and figured "why not? I love smoked meats." The nice sized, clean butcher style shop smells wonderful. The cases are filled with a variety of smoked meats, notably ribs, chickens, sausages. The friendly, Herculean, meat-blooded smoke warrior behind the counter greeted me with a smile, and after I informed him I had never been here, I asked him for his favorite selection. He herded me to a kielbasa stuffed with chunks of Vermont sharp cheddar. The gleam in his eye as he described it, only solidified my predetermined smoked meat destiny. He could see I was a man who also possessed a passion for all things delicious, and he was going to enrich me. I also selected a whole smoked chicken. Somehow it only seemed right, and I wanted my non pork eating friend to enjoy the smoky fun. They also carry a nice selection of artisan products, jams, mustards, sauces, etc. Don't miss the fresh ground horseradish in the coolers, the ultimate compliment. Next time I'm going to get some of the kim chee style raw organic sauerkraut as well. Both items(the chicken and the kielbasa) were grilled over a wood fire, and succeeded expectation. The chicken takes on another form, seeming to garner richness and depth of flavor from the smoke. Tender and moist, it's epicly epicurean. The kielbasa, wrapped in foil to prevent too much escapage of cheddar, crisps up nicely on the outside, and bursts with flavor in the inside. All kidding aside, it's worth the trip if you are local, and even if you aren't if you ever pass through, don't miss this spot. Really, really awesome. It is over a 300 mile round trip for me to drive from Northern Vermont to Pekarski's, and it is absolutely worth it. I make the trip at least once a year, and sometimes more. All their products are done with an old school, slow smoked attention to detail. The place is spotless, and the kielbasa is out of this world. If you've only had Hillshire Farms, Kayem, Johnsonville, etc. then you have no idea what the real thing is. The staff there is always helpful, and there are lots of other smoked and fresh sausages, smoked meats, bacon and many other items such as delicious baked goods and Polish treats. The owner, Mike, is a great guy and always takes the time to chat for a few minutes, which makes the trip seem even more special. I load up my coolers for the trip home, and everyone goes nuts when we serve it. Worth the trip, no matter how far you have to drive. Pekarski's is the real deal, you've GOT to try it. read more

Indeed... the rave reviews are all true! Your current definition of BACON will be radically altered after you eat this bacon, and you'll never go back to the old stuff! It's soooo good! Their hot dogs and breakfast sausage were my favorite when I ate meat. Now that I don't, I enjoy seeing how happy my family is when I serve anything from Pekarski's. My sis-in-law and I stumbled upon this nirvana one "Girls' Week" when she lived in FL and would come up winters to play in the snow. January 2000 we had spent the week in Stockbridge; while driving home to the Sturbridge area decided to take a side trip to - where else? - Yankee Candle. While driving up U.S. 5 we saw one of the green touristy signs the state will put up...for a fee, no doubt. "Pekarski Sausage" it beckoned, tempting our taste buds with its simple message. Like the Song of the Sirens we followed and found a Temple to Meat. Smoked. Good. But not all good was smoked! I like stopping here after a long bike ride (except on Sundays!) to pick up kielbasa to snack on, and sausage to cook. I need to branch out to their other meats. The pierogis they stock in the fridge are good, too (not made by Pekarski's, though). I drove by this spot on a trip home, saw the sign, and turned around to check out. I knew nothing of the place or the reviews, it is in the middle of nowhere, but the sign said sausage, so I stopped. I bought bacon, sausage and perogis. The perogis are the best I have ever had, anywhere, anytime, period. So good, that I have actually driven 1.5 hours each way to get more.
