On our way out of Courtenay, we made one last pit stop to check out Bigfoot Donuts. They're located across the street from Pizzeria Guerrilla. We dropped in on a Tuesday morning (around 10:15am). There were a couple of groups inside but service is prompt and efficient. 9 donut flavours to choose from along with a few savoury options (pizza pretzel looked tasty). Donut prices are reasonable ($2.00 to $3.00) and you save a bit when you buy 6/12 donuts. For drinks, there's coffee & espresso, tea, milk & more, seasonal drinks and their houseblend chai. All prices already include taxes. - Classic houseblend chai ($5.00 medium) - better than your usual chai but we could have used more punch in flavour. - Mixed variety - Bigfoot half dozen ($15.00) - we opted for the O.G. (original glazed), glazed crueller, apple fritter and three seasonal (pumpkin pie old fashioned, blackberry apple pie and pecan pie). The blackberry apple pie was fantastic; excellent texture and the filling was perfect. Just like eating apple pie. You can't go wrong with any of their monthly specials. BD's a must stop if you're a donut fan. Good quality, reasonably priced donuts! 4.5 stars.

We were driving through looking for a fun place to eat with the Kids and stopped in at Big foot! What a great experience! We got several different kinds and all were delicious! I had the Big foot and shared the Apple Fritter with my daughter, she had a chocolate cookie type one. All were great! Highly recommend stopping by and trying! Besides the wait to get in, it was a great experience!

We had such amazing donuts and coffee here. The breakfast sandwiches are amazing too, definitely recommend checking this spot out, it's so good! The staff are super nice too!

Delicious donut, one of the best I've had! However, found drink to be a bit bland so I took a star off.

A sour cream donut (below) and a apple fritter donut (above), half eaten of course.

Friendly atmosphere, and although the hours aren't really accessible to me (I work nights), still flexible if you're a morning person. Also, the donuts they serve are tasty, filling and a fresh take, since they have monthly flavours. Recommend as an alternative to Tim Hortons, if you're looking for a solid, home grown donut shop!

So-so on last visit. Donuts weren't fresh in the afternoon. Took a bite and left it. Very disappointed.

My friend's coffee came with a layer of highly sweetened dust, possibly chocolate, not requested. Coffee? No flavor of coffee at all. What the heck, something has dropped-off from quality, since our last visit a few months ago. We didn't hear fresh coffee being grounded. Was it out of a tin? Even though the breakfast bagel was ok, we don't plan on visiting any time soon. Blah, to the so called coffee, after taste.

The order counter is at the back. It can be confusing if people are waiting for orders, the coffee comes up in the right side but I find people are kind of jostling/waiting and it's hard to tell who's in line when they're busy. Some people stand in front of the condiment/napkin station to by then you've had to say excuse me a couple of times. The Cortado is my go to and this one is strong and also quite substantial compared to say Parallel 49, which is tiny. I like that they ask you what strength of beans you'd prefer. They have a fresh sheet with menu items. I ordered the first thing on the list which was a Rosemary Rock Salt bagel with lox and arugula. The counter person told me it may take 15-20 mins to make the bagel. Almost like she didn't want me to order it?Fine I'm in no rush. Maybe the toasting takes time? The bagel was either not toasted or barely toasted with a very thin schmear of cream cheese, some fresh smoked salmon, lots of arugula and some small chopped red onion and a sprinkle of feta. The whole thing ate kind of 'dry' like it needed a spritz of olive oil and some acid, maybe a squeeze of lemon. The arugula was dry as a bone. Didn't offer any of the pepperiness you'd normally expect. For 15$ it was ok but def with a few tweaks it could've been delicious. I didn't try any baked goods. The inside ambiance is very friendly as lots of locals here and chatting, and due to the size of the space it was quite loud. Lots of seating at tables and some comfy seats as well.

Apparently, Cakebread do a mean garlic loaf - with a whole bulb baked into the center. What is there not to love about that? Anyway, I didn't get to try it, so I can't review it - I just will dream about that instead. Rather, I tried out a chocolate brownie. I've been a little disappointed with brownies since I moved to the states, so I thought I would try out a Canadian version, to see if it could compare to the wonder of the brownies sold in London's Borough Market. Well, it didn't - but it was incredibly luscious. Chocolate icing on top and a surprise of biscuit (cookie) threaded through the brownie itself. I do like a bit of texture when I am chowing down. One brownie was probably a bit too rich for one person - but, I was alone - and I do hate seeing food go to waste. It's called taking one for the team, ok?
