The officer told me the speed limit was 70 MPH, however he wrote 65 MPH on my ticket, thus, making me ineligible for traffic school. I was given a ticket for going 87 in a 65 on I-5 N (Kern County). Explained to the cop that I was merging right and there were cars going faster than me, but that all falls on deaf ears. I was unemployed at the time so I didn't take the $366 ticket lightly. I don't own a car (I rent or borrow when I need one), and it was my first speeding ticket, so I thought I might have a chance to explain the situ and hopefully get it dropped. Work eventually lead me out of state and the complexity of the mail in process lead me to choose a lawyer. I chose Bigger & Harman bc, unlike many of the others, they assured me that they actually go to court rather than just filling out paperwork. They were $100 more than the rest ($350), but they insisted this had better chances than contesting by mail. I was told that I had a good chance of having it dropped, and he reminded me of other recent success stories. I stressed that the fine was more troublesome to me than the points bc I don't own my own car, and they said they would note this and push for a reduction if it didn't get dropped. They extended out my court dates twice. I was updated via email after each. Today I received notice that they plead 'no contest' in exchange for a no point violation, but I still have to pay the $366 fine. I see this whole experience as a complete waste of money and time, ultimately upsold on false hopes that it had a good chance of being dismissed. I would have much rather have taken my chances filling out the complicated contest by mail paperwork myself, or gone with the less expensive lawyers. Don't believe their hype read more

Very happy with the service I received from Bigger & Harman. I got pulled over on the I-5 and was told by the Shafter CHP guy that he clocked me going 114 (in a 70mph zone). Wrote me a ticket for doing 110. As some of you may know, anything over 100 is pretty severe if convicted: 1st timers get 2 points that stay on your record for 7 years (like a DUI) instead of the usual 3 years, plus they can suspend your license for 30 days, plus a pretty huge fine. In addition, my car insurance -- 21st Century -- would likely have dropped me and I'd have to pay 2x or 3x what I'm paying now for the next 7 years. I've always fought traffic tickets on my own and have found that nearly 1/3 of the time the cop doesn't show up, at least here in the L.A. area. But I figure up in Poedunk, it's even more of a business and the likelihood of the cop not showing up is probably pretty slim. Never used a lawyer to fight a ticket before, but against these odds, I'd have been an idiot not to. Plus I would not have to drive 250 miles r/t 2 or 3 times to appear at the Shafter court, I didn't have to appear in court at all. B&H was the local firm that had the best and most reviews, but I did contact a different firm initially. Didn't feel satisfied with my conversation with the other firm, so then called B&H. They didn't give me a song and dance, were honest and straightforward. Pricier than the other firm that I felt less confident in, but saving a couple hundred for iffy representation wouldn't be a good trade-off. B&H took care of everything for me, didn't have to appear in court at all. They got the venue moved to Bakersfield, about 20 miles away from Shafter, which potentially could have increased the odds of the cop not appearing. But, as it turned out, he did appear, so bad news. However, Mark Bigger got the court to reduce the charge to "driving over 70" in a 70 zone, essentially a regular speeding ticket with just one point that would clear in 3 years just like any infraction. 21st Century will probably raise my rate somewhat when they get wind of this, but they won't drop me, so win-win. The court fine was about 50% heftier than a regular speeding ticket, but will save me thousands of dollars in insurance costs, so I feel B&H got me an excellent outcome given the original charge. I'll be setting the cruise control to the posted limit from now on, but if I ever do get stopped again anywhere near the Bakersfield area, I'll be hiring B&H again. read more

Other than the positive result, the entire experience was pleasing in other ways: As an OTR driver, it is difficult to access a printer for forms that need signatures as many documents require; with these professionals I was able to fill out the contract & send the ticket info in literally 8mins on my Android phone with no printout needed!
