My bias aside though, Im a firm believer there are few parks in the country that are as good as this one. To start, its HUGE! I don't think I've really ever seen the whole thing. There are rolling fields of grass, an "arboretum" which is like taking a walk in the mountains, a lake, playgrounds, a museum, gardens, a dog park, and idk what else. It's so beautiful wherever you go, and you can easily sink a day into exploring here.

I'm not sure who came up with it, but it's a lot of fun for adults too. The crazy hoops are iconic here and it's so fun watching the kiddos give it a go. I also love that there's a playground for bigger kids, younger kids, and one for all. They also have a fantastic bike loop with exercise machines. The big field in the middle of the loop is used for sports practices and it's well kept as well! Did I mention tennis and pickleball? Well they have both here and there are always players on weekends but weekdays it's all good! Have you been?

A park with a view and lake access!…read more LOCATION: West of the Galaxy Theater Legends IMAX on the south side of Sparks Marina Park Lake right on the beach. DECOR: Mid August and it's half grass, half dirt patch field enclosed in a chain-link fence with about 100 yards of room to run around. Trees sprinkled through. Perfectly unobstructed view of the lake and backdrop mountains. Sunset view. AMENITIES: Benches to sit, a walkway/sidewalk if your want to stay out of the grass and dirt. Trashcans and a drinking fountain for people and pets. Lake access. EXPERIENCE: I took my pup, Nala, here on her birthday and she had a blast. The park entrance contains a double gate to ensure dogs to get in or out accidentally. There were at least 4 other dogs at any given time at the park and they were all friendly. Owners were not oblivious to their pets wandering around. Owners were also not aggressive or upset when other dogs came up to them. Nala played in the water a bit with other dogs although she didn't swim. When she was tired, she'd find a patch of grass to enjoy under the shade of a tree. Then, she'd hop back out to herding the other dogs. Lol. She got some great socialization in and the walk from the parking lot wasn't too far. However, I've seen smaller dogs like Frenchies needing to be carried there if it's hotter days so keep that in mind if you're pup doesn't do too well on longer walks out the heat.

The reflections on the water were absolutely gorgeous, the fresh outdoor air smelled amazing, and the temperature was perfect not too hot, not too cold. It wasn't too crowded either, which made it even better. And of course, I got lucky and found easy parking in my favorite spot!!! Sometimes the simplest things fresh air, sunshine, a beautiful view, and a good walk are all you need to start your Sunday feeling refreshed and grateful.

Idlewild Park is massive in size and seems to have multiple area that are reservable for whatever event you are planning to have. I noticed a skate park, the play structure we specifically stopped by for, a miniature train, and lots of paths for you to get your steps in. Bonus points for that food truck blaring Christmas melodies to let other's know they were closely. I can legit jam out to Christmas beats all year round!! I especially loved the large open grassy area where we were able to introduce the kids to a game of RED ROVER, RED ROVER. Do be advised there is plenty of duck/geese poop covering the entire park. You will also come across massive mounds of dog excrement regardless of the park providing poop bags throughout the park.
