If I was a dog owner, this place would be a better choice for me over other parks in the area.

Fourth of July…read more.. We've been coming to the spark for the Fourth of July fireworks near 20 years now. They always have some fun and festivities in the park during the day. Usually live music, or broadcast radio station from inside the park. We back up to the main road, get out our chairs, and wait for sundown. Our routine usually includes making some fried chicken and potato salad and going to the lake or the river. Spend a few hours there and then head to Fernley. It is absolutely one of the best firework shows around. Not sure if it's just a holiday, but we always meet people in make friends while we wait for the show. I see they have other events here through the year, but definitely if you have not tried, come watch the fireworks on Fourth of July.

My bias aside though, Im a firm believer there are few parks in the country that are as good as this one. To start, its HUGE! I don't think I've really ever seen the whole thing. There are rolling fields of grass, an "arboretum" which is like taking a walk in the mountains, a lake, playgrounds, a museum, gardens, a dog park, and idk what else. It's so beautiful wherever you go, and you can easily sink a day into exploring here.

A couple years ago, a friend of mine had a truly tragic experience when her dog was attacked and killed by another dog at this park, which is heartbreaking and something people should be aware of. Also, the grass isn't real, it's turf, and while the sprinklers run every night, there's often still a heavy dog poop odor that lingers and makes the place a little unpleasant. Overall, my pup enjoys it, but be cautious, keep an eye on your dog at all times, and know that upkeep could definitely be better.

I also love that there's a playground for bigger kids, younger kids, and one for all. They also have a fantastic bike loop with exercise machines. The big field in the middle of the loop is used for sports practices and it's well kept as well! Did I mention tennis and pickleball? This is a neat little trail inside of the Golden Eagle sports complex. It has a few signs giving…read morehistory of the area and the fauna as well. The loop is small enough for even the most out of shape person to go around. Currently the asphalt is unbroken and smooth enough even for someone with a walker. The sad thing about the loop is the dog feces on the side of the trail. Too many rude dog owners are being donkeys and letting their dogs do their business in the brush. The trailhead also has a seasonal toilet as well as a nice covered space for what I assume is for nature talks before organized nature walks. The scenery is not up close but seen from a distance. Seeing the different topography of the area and the relative quiet are the draws for me. We did see a father teaching his daughter how to ride her bike here. The path is nice and wide. This park honestly would be good in any season but the high heat of summer. Parking is plentiful.

A park with a view and lake access!…read more LOCATION: West of the Galaxy Theater Legends IMAX on the south side of Sparks Marina Park Lake right on the beach. DECOR: Mid August and it's half grass, half dirt patch field enclosed in a chain-link fence with about 100 yards of room to run around. Trees sprinkled through. Perfectly unobstructed view of the lake and backdrop mountains. Sunset view. AMENITIES: Benches to sit, a walkway/sidewalk if your want to stay out of the grass and dirt. Trashcans and a drinking fountain for people and pets. Lake access. EXPERIENCE: I took my pup, Nala, here on her birthday and she had a blast. The park entrance contains a double gate to ensure dogs to get in or out accidentally. There were at least 4 other dogs at any given time at the park and they were all friendly. Owners were not oblivious to their pets wandering around. Owners were also not aggressive or upset when other dogs came up to them. Nala played in the water a bit with other dogs although she didn't swim. When she was tired, she'd find a patch of grass to enjoy under the shade of a tree. Then, she'd hop back out to herding the other dogs. Lol. She got some great socialization in and the walk from the parking lot wasn't too far. However, I've seen smaller dogs like Frenchies needing to be carried there if it's hotter days so keep that in mind if you're pup doesn't do too well on longer walks out the heat.
