"Making society better…read more
We Can Make A Change.
An hour long experience."
There are spoilers so don't read if you're going to torture yourself with this piece in December. I'm just going to say this up front, this was hands down TRASH. I am not going back to additional phases.
Welcome to Sanction, Phase One, the intro of what appears to be immersive theater. You don't know too much coming in because you are not given a ton of context except their website that vaguely hints on "becoming perfect"/one of us/perfectionist theme.
You are introduced to a receptionist who quickly points out all your flaws in an unapologetic way but it's so over the top that you can't take her seriously. The plant was very lovely, easy to talk to, and has an interesting background if you ask her the right questions. You fill out a questionnaire where they ask you stuff you'd change about yourself physically and mentally. That's where receptionist started to say I'm a Lesbian (for the record, I'm not). Oooook I guess she would use that because fuck me, right? I paid 70 bucks, might as well be a lesbian for an evening.
But here's the thing. Receptionist kept using that as ammunition as she led me to the patient prep room. She literally called me a lesbian roughly 10 times. So ya, I was annoyed and shouted "SURE, I GUESS IM A LESBIAN NOW". Like this is a bad or impure thing? It's not. I feel like the digs the actress used were canned by a 15 year old who was raised by homophobic parents. Her digs were so cheap and repetitive.
A male nurse comes in and then assures me that he'd fuck me right. You heard me, "fuck me right". Ok bruh. Then a photographer came in and took a candid photo of me. Receptionist had the balls to say "look at her and all her fat glory". So I guess humiliation is their big poke. Awesome, I wanna know who seriously told the actress to this this amateur hour digs at me.
CHEAP. DIGS.
Tit for tat though, my turn for cheap dig. I want to point something to you all. Picture a classic patient bedroom: bed, monitors, x-ray reader, IV....etc. The monitor had full on vitals...but no patient actually strapped to the detectors. I know that's "ambiance" and set stuff but Jesus Christ people. We have ghost vitals now? Spoooooky.
Then the Doctor comes in, does a "physical", asks me why I want a flatter stomach/slimmer thighs, etc. Give her my reasons and I can say the only nice message I got was "hey we can change you and make you perfect outside, but that doesn't correct your inside/how you feel". But then she went on by saying "so stop having low esteem and be more assertive and don't be an asshole"
Wait you just called ME an asshole?! Aight. Cool.
So I go sit on a wheelchair for my "sedation" (which was two mints for my stank breath) and blindfolded. And wheeled around until I got dizzy. Along the way the nurse wheeling me was basically saying how shitty this place is but had to yell at me because he's been ordered. K bruh, you do your shouting, we're cool. After a while I sat, still blind folded, nurse that said "he'd fuck me right" then came to my ear and said "I'll fuck you like a real woman, just wait until sedation kicks in".
Nearly called the safety on that because here's where I'm gonna get spicy.
YOU DON'T USE RAPE CULTURE AS MEANS TO SCARE OR INTIMIDATE. SANCTION, THAT IS A FUCKING CHEAP MANEUVER. IT WASN'T EVEN SCARY, IT WAS STUPID. SHOUT IN MY FACE, FREAKING MESS WITH MY HEAD, BUT RAPE CULTURE IS NOT COOL.
Then I'm wheeled to a gurney and strapped down by ankles and wrist. They do the *Phase* on me by spritzing water on my forehead, right into my right ear, and pour cold ass water on my shirt. Nurse has me get up, unbinds me, ask if I want to see the outcome. He goes for a mirror but before I look, the Doctor says I can't and kicks me out.
That was it.
So basically I burned away $70 for an Immersive piece that used cheap digs to "scare" me. But they only really annoyed me and got my tee-shirt all wet.
1 star for kick ass free parking and nice doorman.
