The staff is friendly and for a gas-station restaurant surprisingly roomy. We've been here before and I think the ribs are good, although the sauce is on the spicy side. This time I got fries and slaw as a side to my ribs and I only took two bites of the slaw because it's very vinegary and I prefer the creamy version. The fries were cooked properly, however, and the Texas toast was good. My wife had the pulled-pork and it lacked the smoky flavor that the ribs had. When we were here last time, the pulled pork did have the requisite smokiness, so she was a bit disappointed. Not enough to put us off, so I imagine we'll be back the next time we're passing by. read more

My first visit to the Blue Ridge and I was so excited to eat bbq! I ordered the bbq chicken sandwich, cole slaw, and sweet potato fries. I was immediately disappointed when it was placed in front of me. The chicken looked boiled and was cubed and thrown on the bun (I wanted Texas toast but that wasn't an option apparently, I did ask.) The slaw was awful and fries limp. Such a disappointment for my one dinner in that area. I gave two stars because the sweet tea was perfect and I liked the marshmallow dipping sauce for the fries. read more

Wow! This was good Q. We were traveling from the Dalton area to Dawsonville for a cheer competition...looking for a place to eat along 136 so, we searched Yelp for nearby places and found Bigun's. We were very pleased with the food. Got some smoked sausage and brisket and a variety of sides. DELICIOUS!! How delicious was it? Good enough for us to stop by again for dinner on the way home. All of the BBQ was excellent! We had chic, pork and brisket and all of that was yummy! The corn muffin was delicious too! Sauces were good, hot one was kickin! Sides were our least favorite. Collards were ok. Mac n cheese not that good, tasted like Velveeta out of box. Fried mushrooms were OK, not that much flavor. On the way to Mercier Orchards, another favorite of mine, we passed the sign for Biguns BBQ and had settled on going there for lunch. After a few stops and a wine tasting, we were ready for lunch so on our journey we went. Talking and enjoying the scene we past the restaurant and just wasn't sure if we were up to turning around and driving back 35 miles. We then thought, what the hay, why not! The food and hospitality was worth every mile we drove. We enjoyed ribs, smoked sausage, chicken, turkey, and pulled pork, every body was delicious! The sides, OMG: mac & cheese, beans, greens, and coleslaw, all yummy. Our next trip to Blue Ridge, even if only for take out, we will be sure to make a stop to Biguns BBQ! read more

Great Food ! My friend and I rolled in to eat around 4pm on a Friday. Our first visit. Grab a paper menu or order from the big menu board behind the cash registers. You place your order at the main cash registers in the middle of the store; give them your name and pick a seat. The staff works very hard to serve you your food as quickly as possible and delivers it to your table. The drinks are self serve. I had the "Bigun Pork Plate" with BBQ beans and slaw. It was excellent. There are at least 5 different well blended BBQ sauces to choose from starting with Original to "Sure Nuff Hot" - and it is. The BBQ beans were thick and delicious. The slaw was cold and light - just like I like it. The BBQ itself comes "naked", but has a wonderful smoked flavor that does not overwhelm. I paid about $10 for the meal with drink. Very reasonable to me. Biguns BBQ is a great example of North Georgia food and ambiance. Very clean and comfortable with a great staff that cares about your experience. It's a great place to have a meeting or just to talk and catch up with a friend. Easy access from the main highway. NOTE: This place can get very busy during peak lunch and dinner hours. We came in during off peak and about an hour later saw the line starting to form. Ample parking in their private lot. I hope to come back soon and try some of the other food on the menu. We've driven by here hundreds of times coming home from Lake Nantahala and we finally stopped in... we will be back! I had the combo plate with ribs and brisket. Sides are fantastic, the redneck lasagna is a great twist on mac n cheese meets Brunswick stew. My kids all ate the pulled pork sandwiches and would have eaten 2 each!! read more

This place is fabulous!!! We are just passing through and stopped for lunch. The portions are very large so we have take out too. The cornbread is divine. The green beans are better than mine. We had the smoked half chicken that was the best I've ever had-it was moist and delicious. We got to "big" banana pudding to share but even that was huge. If you're looking for some authentic, Deep South BBQ, you probably won't be too impressed with Bigun's. They have a variety of sauces, but they all taste 'commercial' and the meat doesn't taste at all like slow cooked and smoked. The restaurant is clean and the staff is friendly. This place is as good as it gets. The turkey is tender and juicy, the coleslaw is perfectly cold, crunchy and sweet and even the fries were perfectly fried. I also has some of the chopped pork, sausage and ribs. I'm not sure which 5 star chefs were working today, but amazing job on all of the food. We would definitely come back the next time we head to Ellijay! Absolutely delicious. read more

Always come here after the casino weekend. Never disappoints. 11/10 all the time. Ive had *almost* everything once (except the things I don't like in general). This place is by far the second best BBQ place in the country. The brisket and pulled pork are insanely tender and juicy. The sauces are amazing and I tend to always take one home with me when I leave. Seriously, give this place a chance and you will leave stuffed with great tasting food. Im 6 foot 220 and the medium "bigun" size plate with 2 sides fills me up and then some. Anyone who says otherwise just got a meat with nothing else. Tater salad is homemade, and delicious. The mashed taters are one of the best I have ever had (and yes I eat at very expensive restaurants in Atlanta). Please indulge yourself at this establishment. Used to love their ribs and ordered them often because they were tasty and fall off the bone tender; however, the last three times I've had them, they have dry, tough and chewy. Don't know if they've changed cooks, meat supplier or cooking method but it's disappointing. I would recommend staying with the barbecue or brisket and passing on the rib plate. Other then that, their food is tasty and well prepared. read more

The smoked brisket is out of this world and even brings this quasi vegetarian out of the closet from time to time! The broccoli slaw is awesome as are the sweet potato fries. First let me state, we are from Texas and are barbecue snobs. We even come from the Mecca of Texas BBQ. Franklins is in our home town, with Salt Lick, Kruetz and City Market a short drive away. That being said, I was still expecting good que from this popular joint. I mean, damn! All these locals can't be wrong. Can they? We got a family pack and two extra sides to go. Grabbing food on our way through town up to the mountains. Disappointed. The pork, pulled pork I suppose, was dry and reminded me of pot roast. I've had pulled pork before, better than this I'm afraid. You shouldn't have to drown your sammy in sauce to make it moist. But the meat by itself was just bland to boot. No salt, no seasoning, no smoke as far as I could tell. No flavor. The sides were a little better. The baked beans were Van de Camps, the fried okra frozen, the potato salad forgettable. At least the mack and cheese was decent. Maybe we ordered wrong, maybe we didn't order the best stuff on the menu? I'll give them the benefit of a doubt. What is certain is that it was busy and popular with locals and in the end, I'm sure that counts. read more

"the best bbq" This is absolutely fabulous food. At our table, we had bbq turkey, chicken, great ribs, brisket ,pork and the talking rock sandwich (brisket, cheese, onions and similar to philly cheessteak sandwich.) For sides, we had baked beans, collard greens, fried pickles, broccoli slaw (yummy), sweet potato fries (crispy and served with marshmallow sauce), corn bread and biscuits. My boyfriend used to come here when he worked in the area. And if he likes a BBQ joint you know it's good. I was hesitant when I saw there was a gas station attached but when I walked in I knew it would be good. It was clean, with antique country decor and jars of jams, pickled eggs and sauces lining the walls. When I looked at the menu on the wall to order, my eyes were immediately drawn to the Redneck Mac n Cheese... Brunswick stew baked with Mac n cheese and topped with more cheese! When they asked if I wanted a small I thought they were crazy and ordered a large... after digging in I realized why they immediately assumed small - it was extremely filling but I ate every last bite! My boyfriend's meal was equally delicious - the best country fried steak and okra I've ever had. Finally fried okra that's not mushy! We experienced true southern hospitality with the service.
