4/26/24- A mishap made it necessary to bring my fav road bike to Bike Doc. Several other shops could've worked on my bike but I wanted repairs made at a local bike shop that sold Pinarellos. Mechanics there are used to working on them & some parts are in stock. The owner Steve & team heard my case and jumped into action. They proactively kept me abreast of the progress, even called to deliver the not so great news that my shifters were delayed which delayed completion. It took 2 weeks to make all repairs. I was running errands on my day off and received a text saying I'm Ready to Roll!! I have been using them since they opened around 30 years ago. I've purchased many bikes for myself, wife, and three kids over that time. They have serviced my bikes exclusively (I am the only 5,000+ mile per year rider in the family) and they have ALWAYS done a marvelous job. In fact, I'm heading there later this morning for my "spring check-up" on my Trek Domane SL 5 that I purchased last October. Very helpful. Very quick. Cost-effective. I've yet to feel like I'm being sold stuff I don't need or anything like that. They aren't brand-snooty (I've run into other bike shops that weren't thrilled to be working on a brand they don't sell or I didn't buy there). Literally the only bad thing I can think to say is that it's a small store so accessories are limited. Great people, super helpful! Bought a bike from here over 30 years ago. My wife loved riding this specific bike, although she had a newer one. Bike needed a face lift for sure, so I was given the task to make it rideable again. The staff at Bike Doctor was super helpful and assisted me in my restoration project. Didn't try and sell me stuff I didn't need and helped with showing me how to do some things. In the end the end result was a success and wife is super happy to ride her old glory again. This shop is probably okay for casual week-end bike riders and families who want bikes to ride together, but not so great for serious bike riders or commuters. Not terrible great at honoring their quoted service times on several different occasions. read more

This is what customer service is supposed to be like. We've bought two bikes from them--a small trainer for my (then) 5-year-old son, and a hybrid bike for me to use on the B&A. Both easy, reasonable experiences with no upselling or pressure of any kind. The lifetime free service is impossible to beat, too. More than that: twice now I've brought in other bikes that we didn't purchase there in order to have some minor repair work done--basic check-up, a thrown chain--that sort of thing. In both cases, they did the work while I waited--in the second case, it was two people working together for 15mins--and in both cases when I asked what I owed, they told me not to worry about it. ! Again, these were not bikes purchased at their store, and they never asked me for any identifying info that would have shown them that I was a previous customer. (It's not like they recognized me; I'm not I there all the time.) That's the kind of service that'll get me coming back when my son is ready for his next bike, or when there's an accessory I need for mine. They're not likely the least expensive option for anything, but I'm willing to pay a small premium for good vibes, a knowledgeable staff, and a well curated inventory. Thanks, guys. read more

Because they are so far from home, I mostly use the Bike Doctor for bike fittings. Steve, the owner, is fantastic and his bike fitting charges are very reasonable. I also take my Cannondale to them for service as well as my other bikes when I can. All of the employees in the shop are knowledgeable and friendly and that explains why I am willing to drive an hour for this bike shop. If you live closer to one of their multiple locations, they are worth the trip. read more

I purchased an entry level Trek road bike (Trek 1.1 $850) from these guys a couple years ago when I moved to the area. Since then I have bought bottles, helmets, and other goods from them. Usually I pick these up when dropping my bike by for their biggest perk, lifetime original owner basic tune ups. I have used their tune up service every year to prep my bike for spring riding. Usually these have been drop off one day, pick up the next. But it seems their policy has changed. I took my bike in today for the basic tune up service as I am traveling this weekend for a long ride and wanted to get it looked over before. Imagine my surprised when I was told that I would have to leave the bike there for a week for the tune up. ONE WEEK for a basic tune up. I asked if it would be possible to have it completed by Friday, "Sorry, nope." was the reply. Mind you this was on a Monday at 10 am. Now I fully understand that free service requests probably don't rate high on the priority list, and maybe there is a shortage of mechanics available, or they are all very busy with other work like putting new bikes together. At the time though, the store consisted of two employees standing the counter, and two more riding bikes in the parking lot. It was implied that this "one week for tune ups" was a new policy. Something to take into account when weighing a new bike purchase from these guys. They offer "lifetime tune ups" but I don't know what value that is when it's going to take them a full week to complete it. I left and visited Twenty20 Cycling in Savage, MD. They completed the tune up in about an hour. It cost me $50, but you get what you pay for. So long Bike Doctor. read more

I bought my Trek 2200 road bike at the Bike Doctor in Waugh Chapel some 14 years ago. I used to take it in regularly for free tune ups, but had a very negative experience 6 years ago with one of their mechanics with an attitude and swore off Bike Doctor forever. in fact, I actually started paying for tune ups at EMS. The excellent mechanic at EMS left, and my shifter needed adjusting, so out of desperation, I took it back to Bike Doctor, but this time in Arnold I had heard positive things from triathlete friends, so I took a chance. Matthew not only fixed my shifter on the spot, he found other little issues that could have caused big problems on race day which he also adjusted on the spot. It didn't matter that my bike was purchased from Bike Doctor 14 years ago, all of this was free. It only took 15 minutes to make these little adjustments and I scheduled a full tune up for next month, which will also be free. This is racing season and normal turn around for tune ups is 2 weeks. My repairs were quick and simple, which is the only reason why he was able to fix them on the spot. I was prepared to leave my bike. There are a shortage of excellent bike mechanics out there, and it is very unreasonable to expect less than a 1 week turn around, especially during this time of year. So I was very surprised and grateful that my adjustments were quick and easy enough to do on the spot. It was total luck that I came in during a slow time. Matthew completely changed my mind about Bike Doctor and I'm glad I gave them a second chance. read more

These guys know what their doing and you can tell that just from the passion they all share when it comes to everything related to bikes and fitness. Took a "road bike" that I bought online to Bike Doctor Arnold to be assembled and tuned. Turns out the bike I bought was defective and it was not cost effective to "tune" the bike. Bike Doctor called me and advised of their findings. I promptly returned the defective bike to the online store and will be buying a REAL bike from Bike Doctor Arnold for my son. Honesty and integrity. These guys weren't willing to sacrifice their reputation just to sell me repairs or upgrades that I didn't need. I will gladly shop here again!!!! read more

We recently bought a bicycle for our daughter at this location and were very pleased. After a not so good experience at another Bike Doctor location this was just the opposite. This is the second bicycle that we have bought at this location. It has lots of bikes in stock and plenty of room to move around as well. They have a very professional staff that are patient and make sure that you have the right bicycle for your needs and that it fits you correctly. While there we also bought two helmets and they fit them correctly for both of the children. We priced the bicycle that we bought and found that it was the best price in a 75 mile radius of our home. Another great thing about a Bike Doctor bicycle is that you will get free tune-ups for life, which I think is a great perk. A great store for selection, prices, and service. read more

Any time you think you are buying a commodity that can easily be purchased from Amazon online, think twice. The identical helmet, bike, and gear might be a few dollars less from a cheap online vendor, right, so why not save some money? Here's why...the one-on-one customer service, insightful and thoughtful suggestions and instructions, knowledgeable and experienced advice, not the same as watching Youtube videos or reading online comments. Person to person, that's the best way to buy. I just bought my daughter her first road bike to ride in triathlons, and Ben hooked her up from stem to stern. Did I pay a bunch? Certainly. Was it worth it? Now that they taught my daughter how to snap in and out of her pedals, how to change a flat tire, what gear to carry with her, how to change gears, etc etc etc, worth every penny. Don't cheap out, let's show local high touch retailers there are still customers out there who want high end service and are willing to pay a little extra to receive it. We need to support these local businesses so they will be here for when our children are buying THEIR children their first bikes. read more

I just had a great experience at BD Arnold. I went in looking for new road shoes and walked out with top of the line Shimano shoes on a 50% sale on year old models. The salesman was patient and thorough with no pressure at all. It was obvious he was well trained to keep a customer and worry about the sale second. They also have a try it out guarantee. Dont like it after a month you can return. I started my search online and ended up with a size nowhere near the company size chart. Only been here once to get a new tire and had no problems what so ever. My only problem was that it so pricey! I only need a low grade tire for my bike (I don't race or go off road, i just ride for pleasure) and they were making me break the bank! I have had several great experiences with Bike Doctor in Arnold. The first time I went to the store, I was looking at indoor bike trainers. The salesperson was very enthusiastic and spent a good 15 minutes teaching me all about the different types of indoor trainers and the advantages of each. He was extremely helpful. The next time I went there I was looking for a replacement part for my bike. They didn't have the part in-stock, but offered to order it for me. While I was dealing with one employee, the lady behind the counter entertained my two year old daughter by showing her around the store and teaching her all about bikes. She was awesome! On my most recent visit, I brought in my bike (bought at bike doctor) because of a noise I was hearing while riding. They had the mechanic look at it on-the-spot and he diagnosed and fixed the problem within a few minutes. Free of charge, no questions asked. These people live and breathe bikes, but they also live and breathe customer service. They are a little pricey, but if you want a quality bike and outstanding service, Bike Doctor in Arnold is a great place to go. read more

These guys are great. I just got into mountain biking and went to nearly every local bike shop in the Baltimore/Washington area. I didn't have abad experience at any of them, but Bike Doctor was extremely helpful, and during the tent sale they are currently having, their prices can't be beat. I just bought a great Trek mountain bike for self and a Trek kid's bike for my five year old. I also bought all of my gear. As a newbie they walked me through everything and even installed a trunk rack on my car. I would never buy a bike from a big box store or online. There is just something classic about an independent local bike shop. It kind of brings back memories of my childhood, and not the memories from the Mr. Hooper's Bike Shop episode of "Diff'rent Strokes". read more

My bike was hit by a car so rather than take it to the Bike Doctor in Crofton, where I bought my bike, I took it to the Bike Doctor in Arnold because it was closer and the lady who hit me was able to drop the bike off. They needed to replace the front wheel and fender on my Trek bike. When I went to pick up the bike they had replaced it with a black wheel and black fender in the front the rear wheel was silver and the fender grey. They said they could not get the parts from Trek even though Trek still sells the bike. I asked them to please match the front and back fenders and wheels. After a week what I got back was cheap matching plastic fenders and different wheels. Not very happy after $260 in repairs. I wish I would have taken it to the Bike Doctor in Crofton. read more

First of all I want to say that everyone I have dealt with at Bike Doctor in Arnold over the past 10 years have been very professional and knowledgeable. It doesn't matter if you are there to spend $5 or $5,000 they are always treat you like you are their only customer! My bike originally had Bontrager race light wheels, but I had replaced them several years ago with cheaper wheels. I haven't been happy with those and wanted to replace them with something nicer, but didn't know if I could afford them. When I went into the Bike Doctor in Arnold to ask about wheel options, they immediately told me I should talk to Tommy. I proceeded to tell Tommy what I wanted. I also told him I didn't want to spend a lot of money on them. Tommy asked me more questions about what I wanted and how I ride. He was confident that he could build a nice set of wheels that were in my budget. Within a couple of days I had quotes for several options that were exactly what I wanted to pay. There was no pressure to up sell me or try to get me to spend more than what I wanted to! We traded several emails back and forth about color options. Tommy would respond immediately, even on days he wasn't working. It only took Tommy a few days to build my wheels after all the pieces have arrived. I took my bike in and he transferred over the tires to the new wheels and adjusted the brakes at no additional charge. I am amazed at how fast these new wheels are!!! As soon as I step on the pedals to catch up or pass someone, it feels like there's a motor I have a motor attached to my bike. If you are in the market for new wheels, make sure you talk to Tommy at the Bike Doctor in Arnold. You will not be disappointed! read more
