My adult daughter and I loved the brisk bicycle ride in the beautiful Oregon countryside that was full of apple and cherry orchards. I'm 63 and the bike ride was great. I had to peddle hard a couple of times, but that was just part of the fun and exercise. My daughter had no difficulty. The scenery, and freedom to bike on the roads, was spectacular and something that just isn't available in the big city. The price tag seems a bit steep at first, but when you realize that the food and wine is paid for at each winery, it is worth every penny. While I normally do not have alcohol, unless it's in my dessert, I wanted to do something that the young people, like my daughter, would enjoy. MountNBarrel fit the bill perfectly. It was also important to me that MountNBarrel took us back to our lodging (extra fee, but worth it). After the bike ride, we went to the first winery where we were seated on a patio with a comfy couch, looking out upon the beautiful vineyard, while we ate an array of tasty appetizers and sampled wines. It began to rain, and because it was a little nippy outside, they offered us each cozy blankets, which made it all the more fun. Just when I thought it couldn't get better, the resident dog came up for a meet-and-greet, which was lovely since we were missing our own furry pal. But wait, that's not all. We went to two more wineries. The next winery did not have seating or appetizers, but the attention we received from the hostess was extraordinary. Because my daughter and I were the only ones in the bike group that afternoon, we got to ask all the questions we could think of about wines. They had a chocolate wine sauce that was so divine. They also had the most variety. The last winery, had appetizers that I would rate 5-star. In fact, I would go there just for the appetizers. The young lady that started the business, was also our bike tour guide and drove us to the 3 wineries. She was so very kind and gracious and in such fit condition that she would be able to go faster or slower for different groups. MountNBarrel was such a unique and fun experience, I would recommend it to anyone who wants an escape to the country and a taste of something extraordinary.

We just wrapped an afternoon with Michael and Sydney and we could not be happier! What a fun day of bike riding and surprises...I won't ruin it for you. Sydney is such a fun positive tour guide. I can't recommend this place enough! Such a fun way to discover Hood River!

MountNbarreL is one legit outfitter for such a unique take on wine tasting! Our group had 7 ladies and everything was taken care of for us by the fabulous Ali, our hostess!! She made sure we had everything from helmets, bikes (obviously), lunch, comfort and just an overall super unique, super safe & amazing time! We felt like VIPs on this tour to 3 great wineries in the Hood River area. Highly recommend!!!

A group of girlfriends and I had an incredible day enjoying the less traveled byways of Hood River. Just a scenic 1 hour drive east of PDX, we were quickly captured by great wines, fresh fruit and picture perfect views! We met Ali, of MountNBarrel at an easy to find location where she had bikes, helmets and water ready for our group. The bikes were in great shape , and we quickly rode away to a local antique shop, apple orchard and three wineries. We enjoyed locally sourced organic foods including lunch and snacks along the way! The ride is fairly easy and novice riders can relax and enjoy the scenery. A shuttle after the second tasting took us to a breath taking vista atop the Phelps Creek vineyard, followed by a tasting which included decadent chocolate brownie bites included by the tour ! All in all a perfect day!

I haven't been on a mountain bike in many years but wanted to experience the mountain bike trails at Post Canyon. I have heard about this place as being one of the best mountain bike areas in the Country. I feel fortunate to have found HRMBA and, more specifically, Greg Galliano. He was wonderful in helping us have the most amazing experience as we rode through incredibly beautiful areas in the Post Canyon trail system. Greg knows this area very well and did an excellent job showing us the best trails for our level of experience. He can accommodate all levels of ability. Whether you are beginner, intermediate, or an experienced rider, this is definitely the way to go! We rode mountain bikes which were in new condition and had the latest in design and technology (loved the hydraulic brakes and dropper seatpost!!!). Greg was fantastic in offering a few tips here and there to help me be more efficient on the bike, which I really appreciate. Without a doubt, taking a guided tour with Greg was much better than we could have done on our own with rental bikes and a map. The trail system at Post Canyon is complex and he has local knowledge and resources to ensure an incredible experience for you. His passion for mountain biking, friendly personality, and hospitality are so inspiring you will want to come back for more.

We visited Latourell Falls, Shepperd's Dell, and Wahkeena Falls before ending at the iconic Multnomah Falls. Angela was incredibly knowledgeable and kept the tour interesting with all kinds of facts about the Gorge and the surrounding area. She even pointed out fresh blackberries along the way and showed us some banana slugs which, naturally, I was delighted by. I really appreciated that the tour wasn't just "look, waterfall!" Angela kept sharing little facts and observations that made the whole experience more interesting and gave us a better appreciation for what we were seeing. A beautiful way to explore the Gorge without having to figure out all the logistics yourself.

If…read moreyou're planning a trip to Portland (OR), I highly recommend doing the tour at the start of your trip--not the end--because now I have to come back just to follow up on other "tidbits and records " she shared on the history of Portland's parks and recreation scenes. The tour kicks off by meeting up at a red building--easiest to find if you're walking just outside the perimeter. Look for a small black signage on the door. The owner usually leaves the door unlocked in the morning hours so look for benches set up for you to seat and wait for your group. Susan, our guide, is a Portland native who left for college and returned back to Portland. She gave us some great bonus insights beyond the standard tour -- like history of the places, including local tycoons, how roads were funded and how each section of the districts were divided. More importantly , she suggested a ghost tour and highly recommend to try biking around town--definitely on my list for next time!

Riding an electric…read morebike through the glorious Columbia River Gorge has got to be one of the best ways to cover ground while still being able to smell the roses in this awesome area, and BTG had a decent selection of steeds to meet my needs. Their tour offerings look even cooler, with a bunch of different options (varying in duration and destination), but I chose the self guided tour option before coming back to the shop and then doing a separate test ride on a different bike. Their bikes are all fairly new and up to date, well taken care of and prepped, and come with luggage and locks -- and the customer service I got from the friendly woman who greeted me was outstanding. She set me up, explained the bike and the route and gave me a number to call if anything went south. My Aventon Pace was clean, stout and powerful enough to handle any of the grades I came upon, though it was heavier (and heavier steering) then I liked. I was much happier test riding the new Lectric XP4. A nice rig! The shop itself is a pretty basic setup - a large open bay tucked into a nondescript row of metal industrial warehouses on the other side of the train tracks (literally), a bit east of Cascade Locks main drag. It's a small mom and pop operation, which is fine by me -- it always means better service. (BTW, booking a tour or test ride online is super easy, with availability shown in real time. I'll discuss nitpicks with their website down below) The good; -A nice selection of clean and up-to date electric models, from adventure to cargo to trikes. They're all well-maintained and outfitted with luggage and bike locks. -Owners are great; helpful and knowledgeable and ready with info. - You get to ride unbelievably scenic parts of the gorge no matter which direction you go. The shop provides good directions and destinations at a fair price (if you're doing a tour). The bad: - a better variety of bikes would have been nice. Almost all the e-bikes were of the fat tire type; some hybrids or cross bikes would help round out the options, and a more in-depth description (and corresponding photo) of specific models available on the website would be helpful too. Type of bike, features, weight, best-use, etc. But it was still a great day in the Gorge, cruising on an e-bike, and I'd use these guys again.
