Carl is always very attentive, flexible and accommodating. I had an issue with one of my breaks, Carl and Marti came on numerous times with no additional charge until they got to the bottom of it. The convenience of having them come to you is unbeatable. If you are thinking of buying a direct to consumer electric bike - do not look further and buy through bikewerks they will assemble for you and deal with any issues. Just had my bike tuned up and a tube replaced at my house by Bike Werks! Marty and Chad came to my house and did a fantastic tune-up, including replacing a bad tube and switching bike seats. Then they waited to have me test ride and re-adjusted the seat to a comfortable & safe height. Since my bike is from Germany, the built is different than American bikes they're used to, but they had no problem with it. Like many others we bought bikes and decided to use them during the pandemic as a way to stay active and socially distant. Because of the amount of people needing their services we had to wait a while to get booked for them to come to us in Silver Spring - we didn't want to go to Olney with the bikes early on a weekend, but that is an option. Carl arrived just a few minutes early, set up his gear and got right to work. The bikes were new and we built them from the instructions we got with them. Unfortunately, there are a lot of things that you don't get from those booklets. Carl and the other guy with him took time to explain what they were doing, how to keep our bikes in good shape and how to always ensure our wheels are properly trued. This company is a GEM of a find. After my experience at the Olney "mobile" bike shop, I will never visit these folks again. Carl seems great - and I see that most of the reviews are for Carl here. But there was an older gentleman (I think his name is Marty?) who makes life hell for Carl and for all the Bike Werks customers. While two people worked on bikes, "Marty" stood around barking orders and complaining that he couldn't find things. It was obvious that he wanted his thumbprint on every project. I needed one simple part, which someone (not Marty) quickly grabbed for me. In the meantime, Marty was "helping" another customer. I was not allowed to pay for my part, because only Marty could take the money (cash!) so I waited. And waited. During the time that I waited, the other customer - who was also just trying to pay for something - stood there with her cash out while Marty typed and retyped things into an iPad - stopping every 30 seconds or so to bark more orders. I finally pulled out cash - $15 for a $10 part - and handed it to Carl, who was gracious enough to take it when he realized that Marty might never finish with the other customer. For all I know, Marty is still sitting there barking orders. (Note for Carl: get your OWN shop!) read more

Carl was fantastic. $25 "house call" fee is extremely reasonable, especially given the time and effort to drop off and pick up a bike, especially in Montgomery County, MD. He re-bored my crank arm after I stripped the pedal out, adjusted my breaks, and re-routed the brake line (resolving a mistake I made when I did my DIY bike build). Fast, friendly, easy. I decided that my old Trek - neglected during Covid - needed a pretty major cleaning and overhaul. I filled in a web form on their website and got a call from Carl in less than two hours. He was able to come into the city (I'm in Foggy Bottom) the same afternoon. He had all his gear and set up in my building's visitor parking spot. 90 minutes later I had a brand new looking bike (he replaced a few parts and tuned up the rest). He sent me an invoice via email, I clicked the link, paid with my credit card, and he was out of there. Not cheap (though not crazy either) but fast, friendly and convenient. Outstanding experience!!!! Outstanding Service!!! I contacted Bike Werks to take a look at my 20+ year old bike which I haven't ridden in a few years. The tires were flat, the derailer made unusual noises, no idea if the brakes would work: it was showing neglect. Carl came to the house, assessed the condition, taught me a few things I didn't know about the special type of inner tube valve I have and took it to his shop.
