Bike Zoo gets Ye Olde Rufus V. Stamp of Approval.
Let me preach on it! I have been a customer of Bike Zoo for around 7-8 years now. I became a loyal Bike Zoo customer due to the crappy service I received at another bike shop (uh ... Harper's).
My daughter was in kindergarten and I found her a used bike. I did not buy the bike at Bike Zoo or Harper's. I may be an idiot, but I ain't stupid. I'm not dishin' out more than 50 bucks on a bike for a nose pickin' 6 year old. I sure as hell ain't payin' hundreds! Sure, I understand bike shops want you to buy a bike in their shop. That's understandable. And I'm sure it's irritating when someone brings in a yard sale jalopy for repairs. But, the fact of the matter remains that they are running a bike shop and a bike REPAIR shop. I can't fix a damn bike! I can't even program a universal remote.
So, I take the bike into Harper's to give a tune up and make it quasi-safe for an junior Evil Knievel ramped up on Mountain Dew. Just for the record, let me say I friggin' hate bike snobs. It's some subculture of dunderheads that are eclipsed only by the Dressage Equestrian Snobs. I don't get it. Your life revolves around a friggin' bicycle man! Hey, if you love bikes that much ... knock yerself out. At the end of the day, you're riding a friggin' bike!!! There's no room to be a snob.
Anyway, it was obvious the smarmy lads at Harper's did not want to service the bike. You would've thought I laid a deuce on a priceless Oriental rug! About that time, 2 of their buddies rolled into the store from a mountain bike ride. The guy I was talking to just turned and walked away mid-conversation. They all gathered around drooling and jibbering about the mountain bike ride. Those 2 dudes were not there to spend money. This dude was. Adios Harper's ... Rufus Out!! Haven't been back since. I would rather put a fistful of sand in my drawers and do jumping jacks in a hot parking lot.
Maybe Harper's is run by Keebler Elves now and it's the greatest thing since sliced bread. Don't know ... don't care. You had yer chance.
Why haven't I been back? 1) I only need to be treated like crap one time; AND 2) I discovered Bike Zoo that day.
I took the second-hand bike over to Bike Zoo. I had never set foot in the place before. It was as if I had just left Mars and returned to mother Earth. Everyone was very friendly and asked if I needed help. They knew damn good and well I was bringing that second hand bike in for repair. Did they care? NOPE! They treated me as if I were droppin' a couple thousand on a new road bike. Gary came over, took the bike with a smile and serviced her up good as new.
To this day I remain a faithful customer of Bike Zoo. They are always helpful and friendly. Over the years, I've purchased several new bikes and tons of gear at Bike Zoo.
They have a very knowledgeable staff. If you ever need a bike serviced, this is the place to go!! Look for the smiling, friendly guy in glasses. That's Gary. He's an A-1 dude in my book. read more
