Rumble in the Jungle! Three of us spent 8 days with a BikeHike adventure in Panama. This was a fantastic experience. Panamá has a lot to offer in a small package. We toured the Panama Canal by bike, took dugout canoes to an indigenous village, camped on a Pacific Coast island where we snorkeled, fished and Kayaked, rode bikes, hiked and zip lined in the mountains, and stayed overnight at our guides coffee farm in a cloud forest, while enjoying gourmet food. This trip was so well organized and the food and accommodations were great. Best of all - our guide, Rolando! A great guide and an even better human being. He took such good care of us and demonstrated how to run tours while treating everyone, clients, co- workers, and other vendors alike, like friends. We delved into history with visits to WWI caves and a local home museum that brought the era to life, complete with tastings of traditional schnapps, polenta, and goulash. Sweet delights awaited at a chocolate factory tour and tasting, and we gained fascinating insights at a bee museum lecture. Dining was a daily extravaganza, from hearty bean with sauerkraut dishes to lavish breakfast feasts enjoyed on hotel verandas overlooking lakes, vineyards, or alpine vistas. Evenings brought local appetizers, overflowing salads, and succulent meats and fish, culminating in an unforgettable Adriatic Sea open-seating restaurant experience with various appetizers, three exquisite fish courses, and delightful desserts. All have been very well organized and with off the beaten trail travelling somethimes there are minor adjustments that are needed due to weather, circumstance but all have worked out for the best. My husband and I recently returned from an amazing trip to Peru; it was a fulfilled bucket list adventure for my husband thanks to our BikeHike Adventures partnership. I recently did a multi-adventure trip in northern Vietnam with BikeHike. The trip was nothing short of amazing! The trip consisted of biking, hiking, and kayaking. Vietnam is an awesome country. We had a great bicycling trip in Southern Portugal the last week on November. There were 11 of us, spanning 3 generations. We enjoyed outdoor restaurants, cycling along the ocean. I have traveled with BikeHike Adventures four times over the past decade. I have been to Venezuela (in 2011 when it was safe), Cuba, Ecuador, and Torres del Paine in Chile's Patagonia. The guides we had for each trip were outstanding! They obviously love their jobs and are extremely knowledgable about their countries. We broke bread with local families, biked in small villages off the main tourist routes, and rappelled down cliffs over a river. We witnessed a Santeria ritual in Havana, saw a puma stalking a guanaco in Patagonia, and watched with delight as dozens of spider monkeys jumped from a bar patio into the lush jungle flora in Ecuador's Amazon Basin. Every trip has been a beautiful cultural immersion. The physical activity of the trips are divided into Easy, Moderate, Challenging, and Soft Adventure. I have chosen Moderate most of the time. If I felt I couldn't keep going there is a van following the group so you can rest and relax. Travelers who like a challenge will find what they are looking for here. The activity intensity is entirely up to you. Trish and Meghan are very helpful from advising on destinations to arranging an extended stay. The airport transfers are always smooth and hassle-free. BikeHike Adventures knocked it out of the park for our Slovenia multi-adventure trip! We were four American ladies with very limited knowledge of the Slovenian culture and language. They made it so easy for us to enjoy so much without a single worry. We loved all the personal attention to each detail. First they set us up with an amazing guide Barbara. She was SO knowledgeable about the areas, the history, culture etc.... she really immersed us in it! The accommodations were very comfortable and in great locations for us to explore when we were on our own. The food was fantastic everywhere we went. We biked, hiked, white water rafted, kayaked the amazing turquoise rivers. Each one of the activities were just the right amount. We could not have planned this type of trip on our own! This was my 3rd trip w/BikeHike & best yet. A booking err on my part had me arrive 1 day earlier than expected. Trish & her crack team took care of all transportation & lodging needs. Next day I met the rest of the group at the Central Hotel Panama in beautiful, historic area of Panama. As always the hotel accommodations where excellent. Next day we met Rolando, & were off on our adventure. Rolando was absolutely wonderful, the man loves his work & it shows. He's always positive & eager to answer any questions, offer advice, assist, point out animals & anything of interest, etc..etc. This is a true moderate activity tour, I thought I was in pretty good shape, but struggled a bit on the Volcán Barú hike. All activates were well planned out & had all the necessary amenities except one. The overnight camping stay in the Gulf of Chiriqui, no bathrooms, not even a ditch & shovel. Not a deal breaker & nothing a 2gal bucket, trash bag, toilet seat or "pool" noodle won't fix. A small blip on an otherwise lovely adventure, the hikes & tours were beautiful, the biking & wildlife spotting fun, zip lining safe & well organized, kayaking & snorkeling fun. Last but not least staying w/Rolando & his lovely family & zoo, touring his coffee plantation & learning about coffee from tree to cup. I would gladly take this trip again. A note of caution, the cab drivers will try to swindle you or steal your valuables if you leave them in the cab. Only use cabs offered by the hotel, not off street. Also you must tour the "Albrook mall" over 400 stores, the Bio Museum & Panama promenade. So, in closing yet another awesome BikeHike adventure, Trish & staff once again did an excellent job handling trip details & all arrangements. I cannot wait for the next adventure. read more

I recently traveled with BikeHike to Croatia and Montenegro. This was my second trip with them and find their process and diligence to detail from reservation to trip completion superb! As a frequent adventure traveler, I have completed many international trips and particular enjoyed the small group size to be an advantage in terms of working within advertised itineraries and adaptability. The guides have always been very good but the guides on the recent Croatian trip were by far the best I have experienced in my 15 years of traveling internationally. They were professional, local and provided first-hand experiences that frankly you seldom receive with many of the larger adventure outfitters. The best experiences with BikeHike are the smaller accommodations and the cultural immersion that places your directly in with locals. Often we stayed at family owned B&B or Inns, top-of-the-line bikes and itineraries that take you off the beaten and most times exhausted tourist trap locations. There is always an adventure literally around the corner. The day of biking through Bosnia-Herzegovina brought us through ghost towns and areas still in ruin from the war of the 1990s - a snapshot in time with historical perspective for those embracing a flavor of history. I just got back from my 3rd trip with BikeHike. Needless to say I love these trips, and I love the BikeHike team! All of the tours I've experienced have been a great mix of activity and cultural experiences. They are usually groups of 6-8 people - so you really bond with the group you're traveling with, and it's a great way to meet likeminded active travelers. With all of their trips I feel like I'm really experiencing the local culture - you'll never be a tourist just sight seeing from a tour bus. After talking with the Bike Hike representative, I was just informed that my EXTREMELY POSITIVE review was removed from this forum!!! Apparently, someone on the review team made the determination that I was making this up or exaggerated it greatly. They could not have been more wrong!! This trip was one of the most enjoyable I have ever experienced, with the local guides providing me a very gratifying time. I have since taken another trip with Bike Hike cycling across Costa Rica, and it was an even better experience then my last trip. Once again the guiding team was top notch and going on the trip with the owner Trish made it a memorable experience I will never forget. I am not sure what the criteria is for allowing individuals to post HONEST reviews of experiences, but if you could clarify this it would be appreciated. I have travelled on many trips with this company to 8 countries on 4 continents and done, seen, and accomplished wonderful things. The company is a small outfit in Canada, owned and operated by women. Trish, the owner, travelled the world for 10 + years before starting the company. She has personally done all of the trips. Megan, the operations manager is a whiz at organizational details and has not messed up one thing on any of my trips. They are reliable, trustworthy and friendly. The trips have all been great. The guides are locals with a strong leaning toward sustainable tourism. On every trip we have gone off the beaten track and had interactions with the locals. The accommodations have been great. They try to use locally owned lodges and hotels, to help the locals, and to keep us from feeling like were just tourists. Maybe because the company is run by women, the bathrooms are always nice and clean. The food is what the locals prepare and eat. You will have the opportunity to try all sorts of unusual, but wonderful fresh food. The activity level depends on the trip. Meg and Trish can help on that. Some trips are really hard; some really easy; some are in between. There is usually van support nearby so if it gets too challenging there is an alternative. They do all sorts of activities other than biking: hiking, kayaking, zip lining, snorkeling, rafting and many more. All of the activities are challenging, but not unreasonably dangerous. The groups are small, usually 6-8, and consist of well travelled folks. They are usually easy going, friendly, bright , and adventuresome types. Some are in great shape, others not so much. The cost of the trips was much less than other similar type trips with other companies. I found the prices to be really competitive. You certainly get your money's worth. I learned about the company by researching it on the internet. They have been written up several times in the National Geographic Adventure magazine. There are a bunch of favorable reviews on trip advisor. Don't take my word for it. Check them out. The trips are like summer camp for adults: you pay your fees and show up for 10 days of great times, wonderful memories, and no responsibility for anything other than having a good time. I would highly recommend BikeHike to anyone interested in a fun, eye-opening, outdoor adventure travel experience. I went on the mainland Ecuador trip this summer, followed directly by their Galapagos trip - both with Jorgen as my guide. To start, he was PHENOMENAL. Jorgen has all the bases covered, truly gets to know his clients, and makes sure that each person has the best possible experience. The groups are kept small so that everyone can get to know each other, Jorgen included, but alone-time is built in so that there is a healthy combination. Jorgen arranges excellent tours and provides options when appropriate. He is always in great spirits and makes sure that each of his clients is as well. While traveling through Ecuador for eight days we had the opportunity to see and do more than most would expect is possible in a short amount of time. In fact, by the end of the trip we realized that we had seen just about every part of the country except the coast - and we did it using our own manpower (hiking, biking, whitewater rafting, horseback riding, etc.). There was an active component to each day's agenda but also variety in them so that we could have multiple different experiences and see the country through different lenses. Our eight days on the Galapagos proved to be similar. Daily adventures allowed us to explore the islands, while also having some time to ourselves. As a first-time snorkeler Jorgen made sure I was very comfortable, but also motivated me to step outside of my comfort zone (under his protection and guidance) so that I could have the best possible experience. I won't lie, the water temperature is not that of a bath, but the experience that Jorgen and the local guides provide is incredible. I honestly cannot say enough great things about my two-in-one trip, Jorgen, or the company itself. Trish and Meg were wonderful to work with from start to finish. Their prompt and thorough replies to any inquiry is very much appreciated. Their commitment to success is recognized. Everything was planned and everything was paid for a head of time which made it very easy to relax and enjoy the vacation. The food we ate was amazing and the day trips were awesome. My family has traveled with BikeHike Adventures for 4 wonderful trips full of adventure and local culture, and I can't offer enough accolades for the service and experience on each one!. 2013 was a customized trip to Costa Rica. A highlight of this trip was a two-day rafting experience on the Pacuare River. Our river guide, Juan Carlos, was the perfect blend of fun and caution as we went through class 3 and 4 rapids, enjoyed picnic lunches and jumped off some cliffs. We overnighted at El Nido del Tigre Camp, which was magnificent! Stilted tents and an open-air kitchen below a tree house with hammocks made for an excellent way to enjoy the rainforest. The outdoor showers were heavenly! We spent the next few days in the Arenal Volcano area where we biked, challenged ourselves with rappelling down waterfalls, ascending into the canopy to explore by zipline and swinging bridges, and soaked in natural hot springs. Our guide answered all of our questions, and practiced Spanish with my teenagers. We ended the trip with a few days at the beach. 2014, three daughters and I went to Belize where we spent 5 days horseback riding, kayaking, tubing through caves, rappelling into a 300-foot sinkhole and hiking out, exploring ancient Maya ruins and a Mayan cave that we hiked and swam through. Our accommodations at the Jungle Dome were clean and comfortable, with a pool and plenty of hammocks. Our hosts, Andy and Simone, provided delicious authentic meals. We finished our trip with a small plane flight to Placencia where we snorkeled and enjoyed the beach and beautiful water! 2016 was a 10-day, private trip with a daughter to Morocco. By now, Trish knew lots of the wow factors that we were looking for and created a perfect itinerary. Saaid, our guide, took great care of us, knew all of the best places that were often tucked away, and seemed to know everyone! We savored many tagine meals, biked through small towns in the High Atlas Mountains, stayed at beautiful riads, visited a women's cooperative to see how argan oil is made, and witnessed and learned about tree-climbing goats and their importance to argan production! The highlight was arriving at our tented camp in Sahara for two nights, a dream come true! Dune walks, starry skies, campfires and drum circles were magical. Saaid made sure we safely arrived at our last stop, Essaouira and showed us around before leaving us on our own for two days. We enjoyed another Riad, experienced an authentic hammam experience at a local bathhouse, shopped in the maze-like souks, and watched the fishing boats unload their catch. Finally, back in Marrakech for one final day, watched the square come alive in the evening. We learned not to make eye contact with the snake charmers, lest we be draped with snake until we gave over some cash! BikeHike was a private custom trip to Cuba with one daughter, March 2108. We had just 6 days available, and I knew we wanted Trish to help plan this trip and provide a guide as she has lots of experience in Cuba. Trish created a perfect itinerary so that we got to spend time in Havana where our guide Willie, gave us a walking and biking tour and shared so much culture and history. We enjoyed a tour in a classic Cuban car. The Hotel de Charme was a beautiful casa particulare, which is a private home that welcomes tourists. Next, we headed to the small village of Vinales to bike and horseback ride to a tobacco farm where we learned how cigars are made, and even learned to smoke one! Finally, we boarded a boat and spent 2 days on the tiny island of Cayo Levisa. Trish and her staff helped us to pack in a lot in a short trip, and this allowed us to see different aspects of Cuba. I went on the Bikehike trip to Costa Rica in Feb/Mar of 2017. Although parts of the trip were well organized, my experience upon arrival in San Jose with this company was less than stellar. Despite the fact that an airport transfer to the hotel was included in the cost, there was nobody there to meet me. The emergency contact telephone number they provided was not in service when I called it. I had to pay for a taxi to get to the hotel at a cost of $50 which was never reimbursed by Bikehike. Furthermore, the name of the hotel was spelled wrong on the itinerary provided so I wasn't completely sure that I was at the right place! The people at the hotel's front desk had never heard of the company Bikehike, but fortunately there was a reservation in my name! I was still having my doubts as to the legitimacy of the company and whether or not I was somehow the victim of a scam until I saw other trip members the following morning when the van arrived to pick us up! Not exactly the kind of trip beginning that instils confidence in the client! Maybe a reimbursement cheque for my cab ride would have smoothed things over a bit, but nothing doing! Bottom line: A very amateurish organization that I would not recommend. There are enough companies around offering similar tours, so I don't think I'll be using Bikehike again. read more

I've traveled with Bike Hike to Ecuador, Morocco, Guatemala and Macedonia and loved every minute of my trips. I recently returned from Macedonia where we had a wonderful local guide, fabulous kayaking, hiking and mountain biking and great local food. Our guide was from Skopje and had a degree in Archaeology - he was extremely knowledgeable about the history of Macedonia and the sites we visited. I got quite an education! Also, the logistics of the trip were well thought out and everything ran smoothly. I also felt very safe which I really appreciate. I used to travel independently and never got access to the local communities and great outdoor activities I get with BikeHike. I'm already planning my next trip. read more

We did their trip to Greece which included horseback riding, biking, hiking and kayaking. It was a fantastic trip. Our group was very small, 3 people, and we were treated like family in a foreign country. Our guide made sure all of our needs were met and was flexible regarding changing needs over the course of the trip. I would recommend Bike Hike as a company that is easy to work with and who hires fantastic guides in Greece. My husband and I just returned from a BikeHike adventure in Nicaragua. The itinerary was an interesting mix of outdoor adventures, including sandboarding on a volcano, zip lining through a coffee plantation as well as kayaking and mountain biking around volcanic islands. We also spent time in the lovely colonial cities of Leon and Granada. The accommodations were fabulous: historically preserved hotels in the cities and ecolodges in the country. The local guide was engaging and insightful. It was wonderful to have everything expertly arranged in advance so we could immerse ourselves completely without being preoccupied by logistics, I highly recommend BikeHike to anyone looking to explore the road less traveled. read more

Not super impressed by the trip i did with BH. I am not able to recommend with good faith. Was told I could expect certain things on the 12 day trip-but many of them failed to come to fruition. Plus the trip I did was not actually one of theirs, rather a company in costa rica that they partner up with, but pass off as their own BH adventure. I ended up paying more than other guests who were on the same trip. Communication with BH was very poor at times and with the handful of f*ck ups on their end, not one single apology from them. I also found out from other guests that they lied about the number of clients signed up for the trip, to get them to commit to the trip & sign up faster, when the guests were not necessarily 100% sold on the trip yet. I cannot say enough how amazingly easy Trish and Meghan made planning our Cuba BikeHike Adventures trip! They were extremely quick to respond to our questions and helpful throughout the entire planning process. Once we arrived in Cuba, our guide, Erik and driver, Unior, were there to help us and share their knowledge and love of Cuba with us. The trip was very well organized, safe, and fun! We always felt welcome at the small hotels and casa particulars we stayed at - the owners treated us like family, even inviting us to share in the Cuba traditions and libations on New Year's Eve. Our bikes were in great condition, and the guides took the time to adjust the bikes to each of us. The food, while not as spicy as I had anticipated, was excellent. I feel the route we rode gave us a great feel for Cuba and it's people, and we also got to learn some of Cuba's history along the way. The Cuban people were welcoming and happy to see us and talk with us. I loved that we were never approached to buy anything or asked for money. I highly recommend getting with Trish or Meghan and planning a trip to Cuba with BikeHike - you will have a terrific trip, see the beautiful countryside, experience downtown Havana and make some new friends! BikeHike did a great job of having both physical activity and cultural time. Plus you will be able to enjoy some vitiman "R" - (wonderful Cuban rum!) If I could give more then 5 stars I definitely would - hopefully I will be able to do another journey with BikeHike in the future! read more

I have traveled with Bike Hike for about 10 years. I am a very experienced world traveler. The value for your money is second to none. I don't have worry that the trip will be a disaster. They trips are always well planned, and relatively glitch free.Trish and her company don't mess around. There number one goal is to provide an excellent adventure at a reasonable price. They always return calls and/or emails within 24 hours. Bike Hike is a top notch organization. The trips are always meticulously planned, and nothing is left to chance. I have had about four trips with Bike Hike. I will be planning a trip to Nicaragua this winter. Additionally, there is good value for your travel dollar with Bike Hike. I am a tough and hardened consumer. Take my advice, you will be pleased with your travel plans if you go with Bike Hike. Just back from an awesome trip in Vietnam and Cambodia with BikeHike Adventures. The trip was well organized with great accommodations and excellent guides. The weather was unseasonably cold in Vietnam but that didn't stop us from enjoying the whole cultural experience! We did some great treking, biking ...best way to see the ruins in Angor Wat and kayaying. We will certainly try to travel with BikeHike again. Kudos to the BikeHike team. read more

My boyfriend and I just returned from our first India adventure together using BikeHike Adventures. We recently spent a week in beautiful Belize with BikeHike. What a great trip, so much to see and do, and the staff at BikeHike took care of all the details so that we could just show up and enjoy ourselves. From the moment David picked us up from the airport we were taken care of. I've planned lots of adventure travel myself and what a luxury it is to know that it is all done for us. We visited the Belize Zoo ( which originally we thought, eh just another zoo, but wow-- the best zoo anywhere!), went horseback riding in the jungle, toured the ATM caves, saw ruins, went cave tubing, rappelled into a 300 foot sink hole before leaving the jungle and heading to Placencia for some R and R at the beach and a day of snorkelling. Trish and Meghan from BikeHike took care of all the details, transfers, bookings. I can't recommend them strongly enough. You should book your next trip with BikeHike. Belize was our second trip with them. The first was a totally customized trip for a family of 6 (parents and 4 siblings in their 20's). Our timing and details were not fitting into any of the pre-packaged trips I had been looking at on-line and then I stumbled upon BikeHIke who can set up custom trips. All of our needs were taken care of, as we were arriving from different places and at different times, and the activities were customized to our exact desires. We water water rafted and camped first, then biked, zip-lined, soaked in hot springs, went waterfall rappelling in the jungle and then moved to the beach for a few easier days. Trish and Meghan had everything set and even if something went a little awry, they fixed it right away. BikeHike uses all local guides so we were always in the very best hands...informed, knowledgeable, experienced, informative, funny and fun loving guides!! They have trips all over the world!! Just back from an epic BikeHike Adventure in Torres del Peine Patagonia. Never have 5 Stars been more well warranted. The Echo Camp was luxurious with excellent cuisine admist some of Mother Nature's most stunning scenery. The hikes were challenging but with alternative options, such as an incredible horseback ride, available. The guide's ,Diego and Christian, were the best on the planet and our group truly blended with the competent, supportive and enthusiastic presence of BikeHikes own Meg who it was our Good Fortune to have along with us. An amazing value for the cost as the experience was worth a million bucks. read more
