Well they no longer have any bikes I was familiar with anymore. I guess trending towards the masses. Electric bikes, commuter bikes, gravel etc. I think Trek still makes a hard core road bike I just didn't see one on the floor. Lets face it with a longer wheel base they aren't the best for around town. I thought there would be more accessories not that I was looking for anything in particular but just seemed a little anemic in that catagory. They did have a full blown shoe and pedal area though. Full on repair assembly area looked ready for anything. I talked to a sales dude and he was very knowledgable and a tech guy who totally knew his stuff. So, half way impressed when peeps in a position to know their shit actually do more than me. If I were in the market for another bike or get an older one whipped into shape I would definitely give these folks a hard look.

After two quick and reasonably priced tire repairs, I brought my bike in for a broken handbrake…read more He told me it was repaired, I took it away-- and it was just as broken as it was to start out with!!! So I had to bring it back. He did not charge me for the re-do, but I was still angry that he caused me a safety issue by telling me something broken was repaired. Made suspicious by this interaction, the next time I had an issue a few weeks later (with clunky gear shifts), I took it to Trek Bicycles down the street. Trek told me my brake pads were almost worn out, my gear chain was stretched and close to wearing out, and the rubber (not the tube) was almost worn through on back tire. The audacity of doing a brake repair and not telling me my brake pads were almost worn out!!! Not to mention, not telling me about all those other serious issues with my bike. It is very unprofessional not to mention problems with a bike that is taken to you for repair. The shop is so crowded with half-repaired bikes you cannot physically walk over to the counter. In retrospect, that should've been a warning sign for me. I feel like the sloppy work I received here risked my safety, and I'm pretty angry about it. I usually hate posting negative reviews, especially for small businesses, but this time I'm upset enough that I feel like warning other customers.

This is a bike studio, not a bike shop…read more I just took delivery of my first Ebisu, six months after I ordered it, so I know a little about this shop. Hiroshi, the owner, created an absolutely beautiful bike for me, exactly what I wanted and needed. I had a hard time even convincing him that he should make a bike for me, that I would actually ride it. Hiroshi is not a salesman, he is an bike artisan. Again, this is a bike studio, this is not a place to go if you are looking for a bargain, parts, or if you are not serious about biking. His bikes are works of art. Check out his website www.jijentsha.com for pictures of some of his creations. He is polite, very reserved, very knowledgeable. This shop is a labor of love, this is Hiroshi. He made the workbench himself, glued all the wood together and planed it himself. My son, a business major at Cal, thought Hiroshi to be a terrible businessman. I disagree. Hiroshi has been in business since 1982, making an incredible product for which people will pay well. If you are looking for parts or service, this is probably not the place to go. This is a custom bike shop, nothing more, nothing less. That being said, he sells really cool "jitensha studio" 100% combed cotton t shirts, made in downtown LA. So, even if can't afford his bikes, or convince him to make one for you, you can buy a really cool shirt with a sketch of one of his handmade frames on the back.

Recently had a couple…read moremajor services with Jesse and Jake working on my bike over the course of a few weeks, and I came away really impressed. (and the bike rides absolutely amazing now). More details below. For context, I ride ~500+ miles a month on a custom made road frame from no22, which has an unusual stem/routing setup and can be a real pain to work on. One day, the di2 front derailleur stopped working entirely, and I couldn't revive it. A friend had recommended Rhythm so I stopped by, and Jesse immediately recognized the issue as a common problem that we could warranty as soon as I handed over the bike. We scheduled the FD warranty replacement quickly, and also some more service for later since the bike was long overdue for a lot of maintenance. The second major service later was where they really went above and beyond. - There was no headset maintenance scheduled, but they noticed that the headset had come loose way too soon after they last saw the bike, and something wasn't right. - Jake spent a lot of time going back and forth with the frame builder on the headset issue, and got them to ship out some replacement headset parts. - When the maintenance was scheduled, Jake got really sick. Knowing the havoc this wreaks on shop schedules, I was fully prepared to wait at least another few days for my bike. - But Jesse put in a TON of extra time and effort to make sure my bike still got out the door on time. - When I picked it up, he explained all the little tweaks he had done (like packing the grease more than usual and leaving a little extra brake hose) to account for my riding style and make maintenance easier in the future. The bottom line is that a lot of shops would have just done the scheduled maintenance and left it at that. But they really put in the effort to make sure nothing was missed and communicated the situation at every step of the way. If you have a really nice bike and want to be confident that it's well taken care of, I would take it here.

When my mountain bike seemed FUBAR after a weekend of barreling down singletrack in Plumas National Forest, they fixed her right up and upgraded her brakes. This past summer, they hooked my husband up with a super sick new dual-suspension mountain bike so that he could join me on the trails. Most recently, my beloved Trek road bike needed a tune-up. At 4'9" tall, my bike is teeny tiny and needed a custom wheel build. Jesse did a ton of research, put together my new wheel system, and now riding my 17-year-old bike feels like I'm riding on clouds, smooth as silk. I can't recommend these guys enough!

I never received the 'order ready for pick up' email'. So later in the day, I called the store and they said that my items are having to come from another store. Why did the website say it would be ready in an hour then? Further, the guy said to check back tomorrow. It's now tomorrow and my items are still not in. Now I'm being told it will probably be a couple more days. Seriously, what gives with their inventory process? It is very clear that their website lies and I would be very concerned about believing it if it says that you can order and have your order ready to be picked up in an hour, or even that day....
