Location: 413 W State Street, Fremont Ohio Open for breakfast and lunch, this is a great diner serving up the expected breakfast fare (eggs, waffles, pancakes) but also the best potatoes I've ever had. The potatoes are thinly sliced and crispy, sold as 1/4, 1/2, or full plate - we had plain but I'm having serious regrets not trying their 'trash' potatoes - essentially loaded. Next time! The omelettes are billed as 3-egg, but they are huge - I barely finished half. Served with choice of toast, 5 of us shared a full plate of potatoes to go with our selections. The weekend special had a Latin flare - chorizo scrambled eggs, beans, and homemade tortillas. (I chose an omelette instead raising my FOMO count to 2.) The lunch menu is inviting - half pound burgers, and many other features to choose from including salads and even fried bologna sandwiches. A locally owned restaurant that never disappoints. Coloring book pages and thank you cards decorate the walls from happy customers, the owner Melissa knows her customers by name and always makes time to chat with everyone. The breakfast is my favorite but they also have a great lunch selection. If you're able to sit at the counter you'll be able to watch them cooking on the grill. Was in town to visit my daughter and grand baby she suggested Billy's which we've never been. Small parking lot next door and street parking out front. Kinda dim on the inside but nice and clean. Interior is old school but great condition. Love older establishments. Daughter suggested the home fries and French toast with a cinnamon sugar coating that gives it a crunchy coating. It was very good a little extra for French toast.. Hubby had the omelet which he said was packed with ingredients and was very flavorful. Our waitress took very good care of us also. I leave 5 stars not because this is a fancy Michelin restaurant, but because it dies a fantastic job of being what it is: a nice, smaller town diner with friendly people and quick, good food and service. My daughter and I stopped in for a light lunch at 12:45 and got a big slice of good jam on fresh bread made to my daughter's preference. My soup was fantastic and fruit cup was fresh and tasty. They were happy to take my thermos, fill it with hot water, and give my two peppermint tea bags for me to take on the road - - I mentioned we were driving the rest of the day and they could hear my allergy-caused sore throat. They only have one cook, the place wasnt packed just steady. The eggs were good & my son had the french toast it was good. I went to Billy's because of all the great yelp reviews. When I arrived there was limited seating due to being so busy. There was one cook and three waitresses for the whole restaurant. I found a seat for one person. I sat there for five minuets before I was waited on. After my order was taken I needed to use the restroom. I'm disabled and the bathrooms are upstairs (see photo). I waited over twenty minutes for two pancakes and a sausage patty. The portion was large and filling, the taste of food was good too. Bring cash- credit isn't accepted! read more

Heading from Put in Bay to Cincinnati and found Billy's via the Yelp reviews. They are spot on. What a gem! Portions are huge and delicious. Sausage gravy and biscuits amazing. Vegetable omelet, bacon, corned beef hash excellent! Saved the best for last...the potatoes with onion. Pamela and Joy are excellent proprietresses and make Billy's a must for anybody near Fremont looking for breakfast. Definitely worth finding. No room for cheesecake this time. But we'll be back. Interesting place. They serve you buckets of pretty good food. The waitresses are friendly. Their fried potatoes are awesome. I had a hamburger steak, but it was more like a hockey puck. The bathroom is 22 stairs up. Here's the catch: they only take cash, and there's no warning until you get a menu. Suggestion: put a sign in your window that says "Cash Only", or "No Credit Cards Accepted". That way, you don't have to come in and get a menu before you find out you can't eat there. If you're not a Fremont local, there's no way to know. read more

Found this spot as I was headed back to Chicago from Ohio. Needed to stop for gas and decided to check it out because of all the great reviews. The hot cakes with cinnamon were memorable. Really this entire rating is based on the hot cakes. It's been a couple of months since I had them and here I am still thinking about them. Eggs were good but I was a little disappointed with my bacon, way too crispy leaning on burnt. The place has a very small town feel. The type of place where everyone in the restaurant seems to know each other and as a transient you stick out like a sore thumb. Also I must warn everyone about the darn stairs leading to the bathroom. To get to the bathroom there is a door on a raised step, open the door and you'll see stairs. There's about 15 steps before you get to the bathroom. Going up your fine but going down, don't forget that the last step isn't the last step you see because the door itself is on a step. I almost fell on my a** and caused a huge commotion because I failed to remember this crucial detail. Everyone in the restaurant stopped eating and looked up at me as I nearly face planted. It was pretty hilarious but maybe they should just remove the door to avoid accidents. There is a warning on the inside of the door but by the time you see it it's already too late. read more

Billy's owner threatened to call the police on me because I ordered my eggs and they were not done the way that I had ordered them. When I told her that I would pay for what I had eaten and she insisted that I had to pay for the eggs that were not correct,she got ballistic about it. Nestled in the heart of Historic downtown Fremont, the ladies who have owned and run the restaurant for 29 years have a wonderful place on the hands. Open for breakfast and lunch, we stopped in and got the breakfast sandwich, side pancake, and hash with eggs. All was delicious! The breakfast sandwich had so much wonderful thick slices bacon that I ate some of it before starting into the sandwich! The waitress recommended the cinnamon on the pancake which was wonderful! We also love the corned beef hash. All food is made from scratch and delicious. If you are looking for great food in a diner style environment this is the place for you! Moved back to the area 3 years ago but stopped at Billy's because of Yelp. Was not disappointed at all. Ordered the tuna salad plate and oh my god it was the best tuna salad I have ever tasted.
