There are still afternoons where muscle memory carries me to English Village where this business used to be an institution. Now that it has moved to the I-459 location I occasionally forget it is there. They've got a great space with both indoor and outdoor seating available. In addition, there are a couple of stages so they can have a musical act in either location. As a bar, they do the staples very well. Good burgers, very good wings, and a variety of wraps and salads for those who are more inclined to healthier options. The tap beer selection covers the bases. I typically sit at the bar so the service is a given. That said, they are pretty well-staffed and seem to keep after the tables. As to the 'sports bar' feature, they have a good set of TVs that carry most of what the local clientele want -- SEC and NFL football, golf, etc. I like watching the soccer and they don't always carry those networks, but it is hard to blame them. read more

If I could give this place zero stars, I would! I took a customer and a co-worker today for lunch. We received food fairly quickly but it was for the table next to us. After serving them their food, we waited maybe 10 more minutes and my colleague and customer received their food. The waitress said that mine would be right out 3-4 times. It never came. After showing my frustration, I requested the check. 2 waters, a Dr Pepper, 2 chicken sandwiches and sides, $47.30 with zero tip!!! They had already removed the wrap and fries that I didn't get. Was in town for work and decided to eat at Billy's. Ordered chilli and was SHOCKED to find out they charge extra for everything other than the chilli...red onions, sour cream, even cheese! Then they tried charging me for crackers to go with it! It's safe to say that on our yearly trip out here we will not be back and will not recommend to our coworkers (who all opted out of even going in the first place-should have listened to them). Two bowls of chilli and a black and blue burger were $60. Chilli has beans, not flavorful, not worth the visit. read more

I stopped in for a quick happy hour this week. Facility: The building seems a good bit older than the signage on the building. It was clean and spacious. The bar is pretty big and there are several televisions. Its a casual atmosphere and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Food/drink: I had the house Cabernet - which was perfectly fine. I ordered the fried stuffed olives and a ton of celery. It was really good. I'd definitely recommend the olives. It comes with ranch; I asked them to bring hot sauce as well. My friend ordered a burger and another ordered the cheese fries. Neither had complaints Not big deal but I noticed.. the pictures on the Yelp sight show actually plates of food. I came here with my boyfriend this past weekend. This has been a place I've been wanting to try for a while, and I'm really glad I finally got to. It's one of the smaller sports bars I've been to, but they have a huge tv which the Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs game was playing. Our waitress was extremely friendly and did a really great job. I really wanted a bushwhacker, but they were out of ice cream so I got the Billy's Berry Punch. It was super pretty. We got their chips and queso as an appetizer. The queso was delicious! It was a whole bowl of cheese almost lol. As my entree, I got a turkey wrap and fries. The fries were good, but I didn't really like the turkey wrap. It just seemed really small and simple. I would definitely come back here, but probably order a burger or a salad next time. read more

Came here the other day with some coworkers for a working lunch. We were seated pretty quickly. The staff made sure our drinks were never empty, or if they were, it wasn't for long. The TVs throughout the place were nice - I'm sure they are great for game days. There are lots of options on the menu. Being a wing connoisseur, and having heard good things about them, I had to give them a try. I split my order and got the lemon pepper along with the garlic parmesan flavors - two of my go-to's for wings. I ordered grilled, but they came fried. The flavors were good, but the wings were a little on the small side. I was hoping for bigger wings. Should have ordered a side to go with them since they didn't come with anything else other than celery sticks. With it being so close to work, I'm sure we'll be back. Apologies this is gonna be long...SO...The FOOD WAS great! We stopped by with the kids for lunch Sunday, our server was a bit disturbing. VERY pretty mixed looking girl, super sweet, seemed flustered A LOT, but maybe because it was super busy.While I was in the restroom I noticed her snorting something (I could be wrong). She was in the stall next to me and I know what it sounds like as a recovered addict, once out I noticed her adjusting her nose and I was convinced....sad... However, my friends wanted to come back for a drink without the kids, hoping the bartender that helped us a bit would be there but it was another girl. She seemed very aggravated and hardly paid us ANY attention. She made sure to flirt with all the guys (we all understand that's PART of her job) but our drinks stayed empty. She was rude to servers coming to get their drinks and gossiped about them to everyone at the bar when they'd walk away. VERY unprofessional. AND we shouldn't know things like what (overheard her gossiping again) about this black guy that was a regular, minding his business, drinking crown with a side of coke... About his wife cleaning out his bank account and everyone that works there is nice to him because he gives them money but he's broke right now so she didn't really care too much about his drunk ass-he's a drunk, that she's exhausted from working all day the night before (Saturday) because her drunk coworker couldn't work and no one else could work, plus she's the best and only sober bartender. She only came to work so long because her manager loves her and treats her like a princess...then yelled "ROLL TIDE BITCHES!" If it wasn't so busy we definitely would've asked for the manager...and honestly, I really didn't want to say all this here, but I didn't have an email address. After we came back TODAY (Monday 11.7.22) for lunch break, the mixed girl was there, smelled of alcohol, and seemed COMPLETELY out of it THAT's when we got concerned and decided to speak up about it...the old lady in a cute black sweater ended up serving us-she was busy but definitely sober and great. The same bartender was there, but we couldn't drink on out lunch break so opted for a table. We just hope the girl gets help and focused. This place isn't in a location I normally travel to so I wasn't sure what to expect when we stopped for dinner. We arrived at about 6:20 on a Saturday evening. We walked in and there was no wait, we were seated right away. While that sounds good it actually made me wonder if it wasn't a popular place. I ordered the salmon and my husband got the mahi tacos. I don't know why this place wasn't packed because the food was DELISH. The salmon was cooked perfectly to my requested temperature and seasoned just right. The steamed broccoli and garlic mashed potatoes were both so tasty. My husband said the mahi tacos were tasty and something he would definitely order again. This used to be one of the best places in the Liberty Park area and even beyond. The food was always good, service great, and even though the prices were a little high you walked away feeling like it was worth it. Those days are gone. Our first mistake was apparently insulting the hostess by walking through the door expecting to eat at the establishment. Shame on us. The waitress struggled the entire time to accurately record our order and, even after multiple repeats and clarifications, it was still partially wrong when it arrived. Our initial waitress disappears after the food was dropped off and was sight unseen for the remainder of our visit. We finally had to work with whom I believe was the/a bartender to get our check settled and boxes. The food itself was /ok/ but it was nowhere near the quality of what we expected nor what it was in the past; with the added bonus of being more expensive as well. It's truly a shame when one of the overall good places in the area begins such a decline. For now, I'd skip this place until they make drastic changes. read more

I've visited Billy's a few times now and it's quickly become a favorite after work spot. It's conveniently located right off the Liberty Park exit and about 3 miles from my house. The staff is always so wonderful and friendly, if you should ever have an issue, rest assured that Wes, the manager, will make sure its made right. Some of my favorites include the Black and Blue burger - paired with a cold beer, its seriously delicious. But if you're in the mood for something "lighter" the Santa Fe salad never ever disappoints. Rest assured they are taking the proper safety precautions to follow Covid guidelines, so you will feel safe and comfortable stopping by for a quick bite. I can't wait for the weather to get a little warmer, they have the cutest outdoor sitting area where you can enjoy a cold drink and watch any sporting event on one of their many screens. This might have been three or even four stars. More on that later. The good. If you live out in Liberty Park, there are only a handful of places to grab a bite. Billy's isn't bad in that sense. It's a notch or two above bar food, but there are plenty of better places to eat in town--If you're willing to burn up the miles in your minivan. The food is competently made and reasonably hot when it gets to your table. So it's better than a sharp stick in the eye, especially when your options are so limited in the area. Taking into account the kind of place it is, I'd give it 3.5 stars for the grub. However, the place falls completely off the map when it comes to service. Sure it was crowded, but not exceptionally so. Yet the waiters were all running around as if their hair were on fire, due to the obvious lack of staffing. After we were seated, it took a good ten-fifteen minutes for the youngish waitress to even say, "Hello." And when she didn't even write down our orders, I knew we were in trouble. I mean, once we finally signed our credit card slip, we left our pen behind as a big, fat, hairy hint. This probably explains why appetizer didn't show up until after the main meal. In addition, the waitress forgot our silverware and disappeared into the back. She returned a few minutes later, delivered the silver and then darted off again before I could say, "Miss could I have some tartar sauce for my shrimp?" Finally, another waiter took pity and brought barely enough tartar sauce to fill a demitasse. "Could I have more...no...wait...Oh, forget it." Can I rant here? To me, "Well, it's Friday night, so we're busy" isn't an excuse. The Law of Probabilities assumes more people will come to a restaurant on a weekend night rather than a Monday. That means you should really think ahead and staff up. Hey, unemployment is pretty high in this town at the moment, too, so it's not like there's a labor shortage or anything. Not having enough waiters to handle the Friday night crowd is like not taking any raingear, tents, or Xanax on a Cub Scout weekend campout. The crowd was an interesting mix, ranging from little league basketball teams to singles to couples to--judging by the attire at the bar--people passing time before their swingers mixer down the street got underway. I mean, I'm not kidding you. Some of those women at the bar dressed as if they were itching to swoon right out of their polyester pants suits, which could be a draw if you are looking for that kind of thing. Meanwhile, their male escorts seemed preoccupied with poses intended to show off the results of long huffing and puffing sessions at Gold's Gym. An unofficial tally further revealed that 35% of all adult men in the place shaved their heads, making it look like a monthly chapter meeting of the Mr. Clean fan club. So, hot food, lackadaisical service, and nice cross section of suburban life. I mean, kudos to Billy's for excellent site selection. Where else will you find anything else remotely close to a decent place to eat on that side of town? However, if this place had been anywhere close to civilization, better competition would have put it out of business a good while ago. read more

We had a TERRIBLE experience here today. Our server was awful. I wish I could tell you our waitress' name, but she didn't come to our table enough for me to know. Ordering was painful - we'd say the order and she'd repeat something totally different back (ordered a grilled cheese and she said chicken fingers?). Two of us sat for at least 20 minutes with empty cups. We watched other servers constantly come check on our tables and never saw our waitress. When she did come out to the patio, she walked by our table without speaking unless we flagged her down. They were not busy - lots of empty tables. We waited forever on our food and had to ask for to go boxes because we had a game to be at. She brought two to go boxes and two To go cups for a party of six. We ate our meals in the car (and none of us ordered anything complicated). The food was good - that's the only reason it's two stars instead of 1. I hate leaving bad reviews. Good portion size, fresh and delicious. You need to have it with their homemade honey mustard sauce.. it really is one of our favorite places to eat. THE KICKER: The wait is down right atrocious. I mean.. it is AWFUL. Every time I preorder with a promised time of 30 mins to order. WELL. be prepared to wait an additional 30 minutes when you get there to get your food whether or not it's busy or not. Doesn't matter if you call ahead. It's super frustrating and I don't get it. I am not that picky really. Just wanted a sandwich for lunch. There were a total of five people in the restaurant. So I can't imagine why my sandwich could have been burnt. The waitress was nice. The location is good. I ordered a Reuben with fries. I could not get past the burnt taste of the bread to finish my sandwich and my fries were cold. So a star for location and the server. Billy's is a Birmingham institution - I still remember going to the English Village location when I was single, and had a terrible cold, and their chicken soup healed me. True story. I was with a friend and we went into the Liberty Park location at 8:45 one night - we didn't know they were scheduled to close at 9:00. They treated us like we were the best customers all night - our food was hot and delicious, they were polite and made us feel welcome. I hope the big tip I left spoke to them - but I had to give props here. Kudos, kind Billy's manager, who asked so very kindly if we minded if they began cleaning - and the same to the sweet server who kept our glasses full and gave us fair warning before "last call." And to the bartender who poured those drinks - thank you ... and to the cook who made everything not only delicious but beautiful - thank you too. All in all, I'm a huge fan. I'll be back.
