This is the second time I've been to this restaurant in about two weeks. We came here on a Saturday afternoon. It wasn't too busy. Maybe there was three tables open. We started off with the chips and dip because my son had had it the last time he was here which was last weekend. The house chips were very delicious. I didn't catch my server's name, but she was short and had blonde hair and she was attentive. They were still serving brunch, but I decided to get a patty melt while my son got the big green pimp burger. This time we got the salted caramel cookie from cookie fix with some ice cream and brought it home and that was very delicious. The parking is a little tricky. It's a bit steep. They have a small bar area where it looked like there were several regulars there. There were several TVs in there to watch the different games that were on. The only thing I don't like is that there's no coke products they have Pepsi, which I really don't care for Pepsi other than that I think it's a really great place. Very casual. read more

One of Birmingham's local-heavy spots. Heavily patronized by Cahaba Heights regulars. It's bar food with extra love. Lots of cajun, brunch, sandwiches, soups, etc. I came for a late lunch on Saturday with some friends, I wasn't super hungry, but ended up being quite enticed by the menu. I ordered the sausage balls off of their special brunch menu. They were served with what I believe was a cranberry jam and very tasty. I could have done them a little spicier, but that's personal preference. I would definitely get them again. I also ordered a side of the gumbo, which was very good. Very dark roux, very tasty. This place hits the spot and is a great option for a group of all ages, they'd definitely have something to please everybody. Service is good, too. Parking can be a little difficult and it's on a steep hill. read more

After a long hiatus from visiting this local restaurant, my wife and I enjoyed a wonderful meal today. Joni was wonderful serving us. The serving sizes are large so keep that in mind if sharing like we were. I didn't realize that the wedge salad could be ordered as a side but nonetheless the salad was outstanding. The candied pecans, cherry tomatoes and the blue cheese were spot on. When our catfish finger basket and Big Green Pimp burger showed up, I instantly knew that leftovers were heading home . The house chips and fries were very good. The coleslaw was a little too mustardy for my wife,and it was intense, but I liked it. The catfish was really good and the burger was excellent. We sat outside on the front porch and it was very pleasant. Parking can be interesting if you go during busy hours and expect a wait but it will definitely be worth it. DAMN this food was good. Never enjoyed collard greens so much in my life. Cheese grits were spectacular. I'm not a sausage guy but I ate the whole thing. Chicken was incredibly tender. Seasoning was flavorful - spicy salty and sweet but not overpowering of any. Yes I will be back. read more

Wow! This place was top tier from the moment I entered. The service was amazing. The way the staff described the menu items had my mouth watering. I'd completely forgotten this place existed until a recent Yelp search sent me back in the right direction. Wow! We've now been twice, and the food has been excellent. The green goddess dressing on the iceberg wedge is next level. It's my current favorite salad in town. The Alabama white bbq sauce grilled wings were tangy and sweet (and even better with a side of Cahaba hot sauce to dip them in). And the burgers...my goodness...obviously hand-patted, perfectly cooked and seasoned, and topped with all manner of deliciousness. The Burger of the Month for December was amazing. They have brunch on Sundays and $5 Bloody Marys and mimosas. Oh, and the staff was excellent! Our server was friendly and attentive. Go there hungry! Granted, I don't eat a ton in one sitting but my plate gave me dinner and 2 lunches. My husband had the Alabama patty melt, which is basically a regular patty melt with a fried egg, and tator tots. He loved it! The tots were good too. That may be a strange thing to say because how do you mess up a tator tot but it happens from time to time. I had the slabtown soul plate. It was one of the best things I've eaten in a while. It is spicy, though, so be forewarned. Grits, collards, and Nashville hot chicky tendies- say less! The place is a bit small on the inside but they have some nice outdoor and bar seating. We live south of the city, in the burbs, and it was nice to find a place with good food that we didn't have to travel all the way downtown. We'll definitely be back! read more

Local owned places are so unique and can be the best. This one was absolutely perfect. The ways the servers all were was perfect for real. They were all super nice and great servers. Went for his birthday and they surprised him with an elaborate dessert with ice cream & chocolate drizzle that we all shared. The best dish was not for wimps: my daughters: Mudtown version of Hattie's Hot chicken over cheese grits with side of very spicy but delish Southern Greens! Runner up was Shrimp and Grits. Has a medium spice to it and diner rated it as top notch! Bday boy had bacon & jalapeño burger and house made chips and I had a fried green tomato BLT and house made chips, both delish rated an A-, chips are unique and delish! Ambiance still has cute beach side dive vibe with a big bar. Best thing this visit was the service from a lady that sometimes bartends. She was efficient, fast and helpful! The burgers are amazing, great little place that is just up the road from my house and so happy it turned out to be good. They have about 12 craft beers on tap in addition to standard beers and some cans and bottles as well as a full bar. Service was super fast and our food came out really quickly. I Also loved the loaded fries with the blue cheese on them, really good. I will say the place has a mix of indoor and outdoor seating but its pretty small so go early if you want to get a table. Worst staff ever! Clearly doesn't encourage group gatherings. We attempted to grab a large table (plenty of open tables) for a party of 8. Six people were in their way. The Manager told us we couldn't have the table so my friend and I moved to a smaller table. We were ignored despite asking for drink menus and told that we couldn't have a drink. When I asked my friend if we should go somewhere else, the waitress very rudely said that I was welcome to use my phone outside. As we got up to leave, I asked to speak to the manager and was yelled at by the waitress for having a bad attitude. Not only did 6 people not eat or drink there tonight but none of us will ever be back. In all my years of going out, I have never been snubbed, refused service or told to drink elsewhere. Instead, I was told that I have a bad attitude. I do not recommend MudTown for a night out. Clearly the staff is a little full of themselves. read more

What a wonderful neighborhood pub. I was looking for a burger for dinner for takeout. Also wanted the eatery to be on my way home from Hoover to Mtn Brk. Saw that Mudtown had decent reviews and decided to try. Burger was good and pink like I like it. Ssalad was awesome, and I got a ton of onion straws. The staff is friendly and very inviting. We heard that Mudtown had the best Ruben in the Birmingham metro area, so we went. My LOVES Rubens. She can confirm, the Ruben is the best in Birmingham. ...possibly Alabama. I will be craving this burger and the house chips for the foreseeable future! Tiny restaurant with terrible parking. Be prepared to wait if you have a larger party. They do have outside seating but that's fairly small as well. Well worth the wait! Menu items range from salad to burgers to fried pickles to pasta to ice cream sundaes. A little something for everyone! Our service was fantastic - kind, made great recommendations, and worked to get our larger party seated. I opted for the Big Green Pimp burger and thoroughly enjoyed (half) of it as it's pretty large & I filled up on pickles beforehand. When we rolled up on this dive-y looking restaurant with terrible parking and a packed porch, I knew we had happened upon a find. An eclectic bar and grill with a cajun-vibe, our party of six ordered a variety of entrees and we all enjoyed them. Favorites at the table were the Monte Cristo sandwich, the shrimp and grits, and the blue cheese bacon dip with homemade potato chips. Went here and had a great experience. It's not a big place so Groups of 2-4 are ideal. I had the crab-cakes and grits, my husband the ribeye with Brussels sprouts, and my teen the breakfast burger. I also had a cup of gumbo which was a generous cup and had a very, very good depth of flavor ! Everyone enjoyed their food immensely. Mudtown is a cozy sweet restaurant with the most homey atmosphere. You can tell everyone who works there is there because they love their job and their patrons. If you go there more than a couple times you quickly go from patron to part of the family. The whole environment is so welcoming. Their food is absolutely delicious! I have not had one thing I didn't love but I highly recommend the cahab sandwich as tacos!! I crave these!! If you come during the day you can catch a little glimpse of the cheers like bar. Here for business trip and yelp to the rescue! I'm so glad this place popped up as nearby. You have to want to eat here if it's your first time. The parking lot, as they fully admit, is bad. But if you can brave the Alabama Alps parking, you'll be in for a real treat! Super crowded, so we had to wait for 2 seats at the bar. It was $5 mules night, so the bartender Kayla hooked us up while we waited by the front door. They did have an outside patio/deck, but it was a little too steamy this evening. About 3/4 throughour drinks the bar opened. Good selections on the menu, so you should not have a problem finding something you are in the mood for. We started off with an order of their blackened ranch wings with homemade blue cheese dressing on the side. I have to pause for a moment of silence here..... ok wipe the tear from my eye. I did not get a picture of them :-( These wings are something special! They are not your typical hot wing. These lovely bone in treats are far far far from traditional! They smoke these little gems. I'm assuming over pecan or some fruit wood because the smoke flavor is not harsh or bitter at all. Then, after the smoke session, they hit the grill and pick up even more flavor and some char. Likely tossed in seasoning or sauce of your choice and grilled a bit more. Chefs kiss here!!! All dressings are made in-house and most all food we saw was scratch made. Both of us had burgers and fries or fried green tomatoes. Burgers were top-notch and huge! I must say Kayla was a star of this place! She was slinging drinks, taking orders delivering to go orders, and overall delivering great conversation to everyone who sat at the bar. read more

Mudtown was such a great place- it's definitely has dive tendencies and the food is absolutely amazing. We got there around 8pm with 5 people and had about a 20 min wait for a table (limited seating) but it was absolutely worth the wait. They have draft beers a lot of local crafts and a full liquor wine and beer menu. Two people in my party got the kaleidoscope Ghost Train Sour and one got the sangria who said it was absolutely delicious. We all ordered different things. I ordered the big green pimp burger with fries. Hands down the best burger I have had in forever. A fresh hamburger cooked to perfection topped with jalapeño pimento cheese a fried green tomato and pepper jelly. Their fries were crispy and seasoned perfectly. The burger itself was huge and the best part of the meal. They had some different items on the menu that I definitely want to come back and try out. The service was great, the waitress was attentive but not too intruding and made sure we had everything we needed. Decided to go here on a whim while I was near the Summit. I hadn't been in years and my sis had never tried it. We went on a Saturday around 730pm and were seated with no wait. Our server, Joni was so attentive and personable (just like a neighborhood friend). She got our waters while we pondered over the menu. We have a tendency to over order so we tried not to do that this time. We shared the blackened ranch wings which really taste like good grilled wings. There wasn't a pop of flavor until you dip them in the ranch or Bleu cheese. But they were perfectly cooked.... tender, fresh/hot and no pink inside. And there were plenty... at least 10. We each ordered a gumbo and shared the conecuh greens and the grits. Gumbo was yummy, it has a special backdrop of flavor that I enjoyed but couldn't pinpoint. Greens are spicy, vinegary, and not as tender as I like. They were my least favorite thing and I won't have to get those again. GRITS caught me by surprise. I'm not one to order grits, but I'm so glad I got to try these! They are the best grits I've had outside of homemade. They didn't need any salt, butter or extra cheese. They were creamy and perfect! The portions are nice. We still ended up taking food home. If you've not been, the parking sucks but the food and the service make up for that... big time! Go see for yourself! read more

We do not live close, so we drive a good distance to eat here. The hamburgers in our opinion are one of the best in the Birmingham area. The restaurant is small but cozy. They food is always hot and served quickly. Parking is horrible, but worth the struggle. lol read more

Cajun Food is a recurring theme for our anniversary since my wife is originally from Louisiana and I like it a lot too. We chose to sit on the front porch. I am thinking this is a new setup to help with social distancing. I think I would go with the outdoor balcony for any future visits instead. We started off with and order of House Chips with Bacon Blue Cheese Dip. I am not usually a big fan of blue cheese but it was very good. We also decided to share a bowl of Gumbo and my wife had a Heights House Salad. The flavor of the Gumbo was really good but did not seem to have as much shrimp, sausage or crawfish as I normally expect. For our entree we chose the Pontchartrain Pasta - Shrimp, Andouille Sausage and Crawfish with Peppers & Onions in Creamy Creole Seasoning with e Penne Pasta. This had the amount of protein that I was expecting in the gumbo. Again flavor was very good and pasta was cooked perfectly. For our final course we had the Cookie Fix Sundae - 2 warm cookies from the nearby Cookie Fix served with vanilla ice cream and marshmallow cream. We have been big fans of Cookie Fix for a while and this dish did not disappoint. The cookie choices were the typical chocolate chip and a "healthy" peanut butter, so we chose 1 of each. Bar ambiance but great food. Crabcakes are 100% crabmeat. Lots of families at lunchtime. They actually confess to terrible parking. Maybe that's the "mud" in the name. But now there's lots of gravel so it's not really muddy. I think they bought an additional gravel lot. The food is way more upscale than the appearance of the place. Rush on over while they have crab claws on the menu. I just had some of the best I've ever had, and I've had a lot over my 80 years. Relatively expensive, ($32), but absolutely delicious. Mine were fried but you can also get them grilled. My wife says their pecan chicken chicken salad is to die for too. Poor parking and a small place are the only downsides- so don't go at most popular hours. read more
