DAMN this food was good. Never enjoyed collard greens so much in my life. Cheese grits were spectacular. I'm not a sausage guy but I ate the whole thing. Chicken was incredibly tender. Seasoning was flavorful - spicy salty and sweet but not overpowering of any. Yes I will be back.

It's one of those iykyk kinda places, and btw, yk. The quintessential (a word not bandied about by most of the clientele - heck, even that term seems a stretch) local place. Lots of regulars providing the requisite color and good cheer - welcoming to a fault. Tonight's Tito Tuesday ($5), so lots of Moscow Mules going down. The burgers are well above average and medium rare if that's how you like to eat 'em - and I do. They'll even add that egg if you ask. Yelp! Insists I speak about the 'ambiance'. That's one of those fancy words like quintessential and clientele that I'll soon be forgetting after another a second MM. back to ambiance, it's got one. Come by when you're hungry. It doesn't disappoint.

It's been a long time since I had last eaten here and it is ever so popular! I got lucky to get a table as I walked in. The place is smaller than the demand so usually you'll find yourself waiting. Service was efficient, not super friendly, mostly acted rushed and in a hurry. I ordered the pecan crusted chicken salad. The lettuce was fresh, sliced crisp apples, and crunchy pecans on top. Yummy!

Incredibly juicy, hand crafted burgers. House made chips. Super friendly, helpful, and accurate service. Tables are super close together so had to hear a guy say ugly stuff about his wife to another guy. Decided they were never going to leave, so we packed up our food and left them to it. Anyway, maybe you will be seated next to an amazing story-teller and will want to stick around for the ending! You will be guaranteed to be able to hear every word. Nevertheless, we love this local spot. Even so. Go for the boss burgers and the service. But maybe avoid it if you want to confide your deepest secrets to your bestie.

Set at the on a busy Sunday. Had amazing service! Had a delicious $5 Bloody Mary. The sausage balls were a great starter. We had a yummy fried chicken wedge salad and breakfast tacos. Look forward for joining them for brunch again!

I'd completely forgotten this place existed until a recent Yelp search sent me back in the right direction. Wow! We've now been twice, and the food has been excellent. The green goddess dressing on the iceberg wedge is next level. It's my current favorite salad in town. The Alabama white bbq sauce grilled wings were tangy and sweet (and even better with a side of Cahaba hot sauce to dip them in). And the burgers...my goodness...obviously hand-patted, perfectly cooked and seasoned, and topped with all manner of deliciousness. The Burger of the Month for December was amazing. They have brunch on Sundays and $5 Bloody Marys and mimosas. Oh, and the staff was excellent! Our server was friendly and attentive. I look forward to next weekend returning for another amazing Sunday brunch/lunch!

As always our burgers were great. The fries are very good as well. They were very busy with church crowd, but we didn't have to wait too long. The seating is a little tight, but it's still a fun environment. I would recommend.

Local owned places are so unique and can be the best. This one was absolutely perfect. The ways the servers all were was perfect for real. They were all super nice and great servers. The food was amazingly delicious. This was a great place to sit and hang out with friends or even to sit and speak with another person beside you. Such a great great time here this evening.

Shrimp & Grits: excellent with a kick!

Hubby's fave. All about the food, babe, and he loves the Cajun kick to most dishes. Went for his birthday and they surprised him with an elaborate dessert with ice cream & chocolate drizzle that we all shared. The best dish was not for wimps: my daughters: Mudtown version of Hattie's Hot chicken over cheese grits with side of very spicy but delish Southern Greens! Runner up was Shrimp and Grits. Has a medium spice to it and diner rated it as top notch! Bday boy had bacon & jalapeño burger and house made chips and I had a fried green tomato BLT and house made chips, both delish rated an A-, chips are unique and delish! Ambiance still has cute beach side dive vibe with a big bar. Best thing this visit was the service from a lady that sometimes bartends. She was efficient, fast and helpful! I'll memorize her name next time to campaign for her raise! Bad parking and tiny enough to chat with neighbor tables. Keep up the good work!!!

We heard that Mudtown had the best Ruben in the Birmingham metro area, so we went. My LOVES Rubens. She can confirm, the Ruben is the best in Birmingham. ...possibly Alabama. I had the Grouper strips basket. It was awesome too. We had a great server that didn't let us want for anything. So if you want a really cool, neighborhood bar that has great food, Mudtown is where you need to go.

What was really nice however was that you couldn't tell the food was from a food truck. It was great quality and you are able to order from inside the bar and they deliver it to you. That was a great service. I can't quite remember which cocktail I got, but it was very delicious and at one point the server had even given me a new chilled glass so my drink would remain cold as I sipped on it. This is definitely a great date night spot or just a place to grab a drink with friends, definitely a little more upscale as we were there in the evening, so the lights were dim. I won't drop my rating as it's spring time in the South but I remember being cold immediately as I walked in- but that's typical for a lot of places.

Seated immediately and ready to take your order as soon as you decide. The Standard Burger (Lettuce. tomato, onion, pickles, horsey sauce & american cheese) is really good. The bartender was friendly and she fixed some darn good drinks. They have live music, a plus in my book. They also have outside seating. I ordered the twice baked tater with chicken and it was surprisingly good and loaded with chicken. My husband had the 1/2 rack of ribs with baked beans and macaroni and cheese. The ribs were very tender but needed more smoke flavor. The baked beans were not good; lacked flavor and tasted like canned pork and beans. The mac and cheese was decent, nothing to brag about. Hillside Music & Que just recently opened under new management. It was most recently Palm & Pig. I tried it when it was Palm and Pig and I thought it was rather good. Hillside is located near the Vestavia City Center right next to Bob's Power Equipment, which ironically has been in that location for over 20 years at least. Hillside is located on at the end of a small strip so they have a nice outdoor space with a covered patio. It's great for a guitar player and with big heaters is even pleasant to sit out there (when it wasn't Hillside). The interior is quite large despite the small entrance. It extends quite far to the back. They have a nice little bar and a good side stage for their many live performers. In fact their very model for this restaurant thrives on live performers with "Band Inquiries Call 205-901-2225" centered on their menu! Our party arrived on bustling Friday evening. Luckily we didn't have to wait long at all and got a table right away. Our server arrived quickly and got our drink orders. There wasn't a performer but the place was loud with chatter. While we were there, a two man guitar group started setting up. Our drinks arrived promptly and our orders taken. About 15 minutes later our food arrived. Matthew tried the Diablo burger. I had to have a bite and it was spicy as promised. Their "Dooom a -que" sauce wasn't bad. Tammy and Jack tried the Philly. Shaved ribeye, caramelized onions and topped with American cheese on a cuban roll. It also wasn't bad. Plentiful grilled beef and good bread. Sarah had the Hillside burger. It was also good and burger a nice medium. I tried the shrimp poboy. Lettuce, onion, pickle were topped with 6 perfectly fried shrimp in a slightly toasted hoagie bun. After I lathered it with the smoked tomoato aioli sauce which was served on the side, I took my first bite and was impressed. I've had worse and this poboy was quite enjoyable! Yom Yom Yom. We also really enjoyed the "okra fries". The cucumber salad was rather underwhelming and the fries were soggy and undersalted. Surprisingly none of us tried any of their bbq. A good reason to return. We had a good time and had great service. If you enjoy good ole southern comfort food and good live entertainment, give Hillside a try.
