South Florida's most notorious and divey-est dive bar has grown up and gotten more mature, and I'm not sure that's a good thing. Porn still plays on the TVs, but gone are the days of topless and naked bartenders that catch dollar bills (with no hands) and drop quarters into shot glasses (again, with no hands). Some spoil sport must've gotten the county involved and made them cut out the shenanigans, but the shenanigans were what made this place special. What's left is a regular dive that will leave you smelling like you had and ash tray dumped on your head. They have a very limited selection of beers and liquors that's cash only, but *really* cheap. The servers are friendly, and it wouldn't continue have it's notoriety if it wasn't for the usual rowdy crowd. While the Bimini Bay Bar is not everyone's version of "Cheers" those adventurous types, like yours truly will immediately recognize this place as a true gem. Albeit a gem in the rough. We drifted our loaner Porsche Speedster off the street and slid into a tight spot between a Florida Power linesman's pickup and an 80's model Chrysler K car with the windows taped up. I backed in and kept the keys handy, just in case we need to get out in a hurry. The Porsche can intimidate lesser men and impress lesser women all on the same night. But those in the know can spot it as a Volkswagen with lipstick on. There are no windows at the BImini Bay Bar for a reason. You wouldn't want to see inside during glaring daylight. We cracked open the full metal door and the heady mixture of spilled beer and cigarettes smacked our senses like a wet mattress. It took a minute for our eyes to adjust to the light change. Our attention was quickly grabbed by two wide screens featuring XXX porn. It is no holds or holes barred, so you better have your little lady prepared. Expect lots of graphic bodies in action on the 50" flat screens. Could be a great ice breaker if your special someone is feeling frisky. The third smaller television features local sports or ESPN, but not much interest there unless its bracket time. The place is staffed by rotating bartenders. Mostly B or C list ex-porn talent and or strippers. Debbie is definitely worth a look and she is adept at pouring on the charm to keep the boys buying drinks but more importantly, making it rain dollar bills. We came prepared with a fresh stack of Washingtons. For our drinking pleasure we were offered beer, cheap wine and oh yeah sake. The later likely purchased at Costco on sale. No whiskey. Probably a good thing. Whiskey and other 90 proofs are quite flammable on their own accord as well as on tempers. Great conversations were heard and debated about life with local biker types and working men, and to our luck US Navy boys in port for "Fleet Week". Nothing like a bar full of Master Chief Boatswain Mates to get a party started. Both brands of beer were cold and cheap and to keep the class up and danger down, they came in screw top aluminum bottles. A round for the bar was purchased by a busted down 50 year old First Class Quartermaster. It was $35 max... including the bartender who reluctantly joined us in our celebration of life.
