10 Stars - Coast K9 and Jourdan Murphy Are the Best!…read more I cannot say enough good things about Coast K9 and the amazing dog trainer, Jourdan Murphy! My dog was struggling with basic obedience and leash pulling, and after a few sessions with Jourdan, the transformation has been incredible. Jourdan is patient, knowledgeable, and truly understands dog behavior. From the very first session, I could tell she was dedicated to helping both my dog and me succeed. She took the time to explain her training methods, ensuring I understood how to continue reinforcing the training at home. The results have been nothing short of remarkable--my dog listens better, walks calmly on the leash, and is much more focused around distractions. The entire experience with Coast K9 has been professional, and you can tell jourdan genuinely cares about the dogs and their owners. If you're looking for a trustworthy, effective, and kind dog trainer, Jourdan Murphy at Coast K9 is the one to go to. Highly recommended!

Let me say Jourdan was amazing with my dog. First she used to work at the breeder where I bought my last Shepherd and she has no problem with large dogs that others might find too scary. Second she had my dog heeling around with her in minutes and heeling better than I have been able to do in months. The kennel area is clean and a much better environment than the usual large kennels where your dog has little to no human interaction. I will continue to go train at Coast Canine where they do awesome work and wouldn't hesitate to board my guy there again. Highly recommend!

A few months ago, we hired OffLeash K9 through their "Board and Train" program, for our Cane Corso…read morepuppy. At that time, he was around 7 months old. At the time I signed the training services agreement, there was zero mention of the use of an electronic training collar as part of the program. Additionally, it is not clearly described or disclosed on the OffLeash K9 website that they utilize these collars as a part of the training-- they use vague language to refer to their practices, including the use of "safe and effective methods", but no concrete examples or definitions. I did not discover that they were planning to use an electronic (shock) collar until well after I paid the $2790 for the training program, I should add. Learning this information gave me pause, and I considered cancelling the training, as I had learned through my own professional experience that positive reinforcement training is more effective to achieve results for dogs than punishment-based training. Nonetheless, I was told and encouraged by the trainer (Izzy) that this method was safe, and would not cause injury. Upon return to me after the 2 weeks, my puppy had injuries around his neck which the trainer referred to as "hot spots". The trainer informed me that it was simply due to "irritation" from the collar. The trainer stated at the time of return that our dog was "stubborn", and "slow to learn". Being a Registered Veterinary Technician, I took him home, and I shaved and cleaned the wounds around his neck, in order to better visualize the area. It was immediately clear that he had painful, necrotic pressure wounds around his neck (see photos). I administered first aid, and consulted a veterinarian colleague for further instruction. I am relieved to report that his injuries healed without the need for more invasive treatment--however, those pressure wounds are not a "normal" result of the use of electronic collars. That occurs when the collar is left in place for too long, and is fitted too tightly. This was a direct result of the misuse of the training collar by the trainer. Subsequently, our dog was fearful of the collar, and, understandably, would refuse to allow us to place it on him. He demonstrated very little obedience as a result of his training, despite our attempts to follow up with his training as directed, and he appeared more anxious than he was prior to the program. Both personally and professionally, I was left disappointed and concerned by this program, and certainly would not recommend it to any of my friends or associates. I question its validity, if management is using and supporting dubious communications, and condoning harmful practices. I have extensive connections in the veterinary medical community of the Central Coast and Bay Area, after an almost 20-year career as a senior veterinary nurse, and I have been vehemently opposing and advocating against this he use of OffLeash K9. I have dissuaded clients from acquiring their services. Furthermore, I strongly suggest that trainer Izzy of Salinas be investigated for misconduct, and potentially animal neglect. My intention in sharing this feedback is to make the community of pet owners, whom I love and humbly serve, aware of the adverse effects of this training program.

On the evening on the third night, Tracy called to ask me to pick him up as soon as I was back in town, as she was no longer to keep him in a crate. I know this problem well. It happens when he hasn't gotten enough exercise. I pay to make sure this doesn't happen, I'm sure that was the case here. So, I picked my dog up at 10pm on my way home. She was angry that I hadn't gotten there sooner, I was angry that this person who claims to be a dog trainer and board dogs wasn't able to handle my dog. He's not perfect, but he's not bad when treated properly. I paid her for two nights, not three. He had not spent the third night, she didn't finish her job. My dog came home filthy and in need of a good long walk. In his life, my dog has stayed with many friends, and been to quite a few boarding facilities. I've never had something like this happen before... quite the opposite, in fact. Don't take your dogs here if you love them. Just don't.

We met Megan before the pandemic when searching for an off leash trainer for our older corgi. After a 2 week boot camp with Megan, Nilla was a different dog (in all the right ways). She was still loyal, loving, and attached to her family, but she was also obedient and finally a pleasure to walk and take to busy places like parks and shopping centers. When we got our second dog it wasn't even a question.. He went for training as soon as he was past puppyhood. Beyond training, Megan has cared for our dog while traveling for many weeks. Even though she lives well over an hour away from my home, I gladly make the drive - Because she put in the time to build a relationship with my dogs. They love her and I know they are safe and happy with her. They always come back a little more well behaved too :) Thanks K9 Approach - so happy we found you! Hammie and Nilla await the next adventure with you Megan! PS - all photos were sent by Megan during various trips and adventures with K9 Approach

We tried obedience classes, 2 different trainers and implementing a variety of strategies I researched online... nothing worked. These habits continued and I was very overwhelmed by the future with my dog. I dreaded walks and driving with him. I was desperate to find some effective help. That's where Dave comes in (shout out to Mary at Bit O'Blarney Grooming services for referring him- best groomer around). Dave instilled confidence in myself as my dog's leader. I became/am becoming who my dog needed because of Dave. He made me confident in my delivery of every day training. Within 2 weeks, it clicked for my dog. We have learned how to communicate and successfully pass dogs on leash. We still have training to do, but the improvement I have seen has been amazing!! I have never met a trainer who cares so much about your dog and your concerns. He goes above and beyond to provide owners with the tools necessary to train at home... he even encouraged me to text him updates/questions outside of the session! He quickly responded to my questions which was so helpful when continuing to train in between our meetings. I'm so grateful to have met Dave and have him share part of his wisdom with me. If you've learned about Dave's program, you're very lucky and should reach out ASAP. You will not regret it. He is incredibly wise, caring, and does an excellent job coaching owners and dogs.
