I am very pleased with Cynthia's method of dog training. She has really helped me with my young border terrier Bowie. I have taken some private lessons with her. We had great success with him so I decided to sign Bowie up for board training for 2 weeks. Bowie came home a more self assured dog with better focus & self control. My husband and I recently rescued a terrier pup, who is very sweet and happy at heart, but truly came to us with some major behavioral issues. He'd get into a hysterical barking/whining frenzy every single time we saw a dog or another person while out for a walk. It read like aggression, and we weren't sure how to proceed, as other dog owners would avoid us at all cost because our dog's reaction would get their dogs crazy too. To help with this, we sent our pup off to Cynthia for two week of her "Board and Train" program. Cut to now--we have him back home post Cynthia's brilliant training, and our dog is happier and better behaved than ever! We've had him home just a few days and have been able to walk him without incident at Pleasure Point, Rio Del Mar, and have even taken him with us to get coffee at our favorite spots in town. He can now walk past and meet dogs on leash, totally fine! She worked miracles with our pup -- really helping him understand the "leave it" command, which helps him stay calm and cool when seeing other dogs and people. Something beautiful about Cynthia's style is that you can really trust that she treats the pups well while they're boarded with her. (I always worried about that with other board and train programs -- some seemed so harsh.) Cynthia's methods are tried and true. We took our six month old pup to the intro dog training class at Bingo. From the first day we weren't impressed with Cynthia's style and unfortunately after 5 weeks we left feeling that we'd wasted $165. While some basic helpful techniques were taught (sit, stay, down), they were revisited during multiple classes, leaving no time for one of the most important things we were hoping to get out of the training - teaching a dog to walk on leash and heel. Too much time in each class was spent with dogs playing (I know social time is important, but not for half the class) or owners working one on one with their own dogs (as we'd been doing at home). There was one slightly aggressive and angsty dog in the class who usurped a lot of Cynthia's attention and left her agitated and cranky. One class was cut short due to this and another class was cancelled and rescheduled because the she was going out of town. I would recommend a different dog school. We're looking elsewhere to fill the holes left from Bingo training. read more

I have been through several dog trainers, with varied degrees of success, so I can credible say that Cynthia is FIRST RATE and the BEST ever. She came to my home to train me, mostly, and my three Labradors, and was awesome. Patient, smart, good humored and effective. I left one of the more difficult dogs with her for a week and the progress was amazing. We attended one of her group classes also, and it was equally as good as the in-home training. I've also taken a group class in Monterey at the fairgrounds, and although it was good, it was not as effective as Cynthia's group class. (Group classes do have limits.) I would STRONGLY recommend in-home training and Bingo! boarding school. Worth every penny. read more

I can't say enough good things about Cynthia and her dog training services. I've used Bingo Dog Training for over 10 yrs now with 3 different dogs and had great success with each one. One of the things I appreciate most about Cynthia's training methods is she teaches me as well. I have learned so much from her and she has helped me be a better dog owner. I adopted a 6-month-old puppy that had been left alone for 12+ hrs a day on 2 acres by herself. The puppy was essentially feral when I got her, with no manners and a few behavioral issues from being left alone so much. I boarded her with Cynthia for her board and train program. I could not believe the transformation when I picked her up! She was a completely different dog! She walked calmly on leash, didn't jump or nip, knew all the basic commands (sit, stay, some, wait) and even learned a few tricks! Cynthia spent with me going over everything she had learned, showing me the commands and also provided written instructions on how to continue the training. 6 years later, Roxy is one of the best, well behaved dogs I've ever had! I took my gentle, not neurotic dog to the first of a five week training session. The other four dogs there were all loud, aggressive, barking, snarling and unsocial. I didn't want my dog exposed to that. After one session, I contacted the trainer and said this isn't working out. Can we work out another plan (for the full fee I had already paid). I asked if we could work out some other arrangement. I got a brief email saying " I hope you come back". Very poor way to run a dog/human business. read more

Trust me there are several other places you can go that will give the exact same dog training for a better price and can offer you a much more flexible schedule. We have a high spirited puppy and Cynthia really helped us to work with his energy. Instead of trying to change his basic nature, she helped us to understand how to reward him in a way that meant something to him. We've completed 2 classes with her and have been very pleased. I have been through three or four different types of puppy classes over the many years I've had dogs, and Bingo was one of the best. Cynthia REALLY knows dogs and dog behavior. I found her fun, engaging, sensible and calming. My only wish is that the classes might be smaller - for the price of the course, a slower pace and more individualized feedback would be awesome. But I get that 80% of the work needs to be done by the dog owner at home, every day, and classes are more for redirection and clarification. read more

Our vet., Dr. Shuman, recommended Bingo to us for training our new Border Terrier in 2013. We signed up for the level 1, clicker training, basic behavior skills. That was such an effective class that we signed up Level 2. These two classes gave our dog and us the skills we needed to be able to fully integrate our new pet into our family and to fully enjoy him. The walking class was next, and was very, very, helpful in that we were then able to walk our dog without his pulling and without his reacting aggressively to other dogs or forest animals. He even learned to sit at crosswalks until it was safe to cross. Cynthia really is a conscientious instructor who truly desires to train both dog and owner so that they can live in harmony with full enjoyment of each other's company. We are very grateful for all she has done to improve the quality of relationship with our pet. And, beyond training our dog, she has given us the skills to continue his training to further endear him to us. Last, we have used the Bingo pet boarding service and we are very satisfied with her care and respect for our dog. And, our dog seems to have enjoyed the experience. read more

I wish there were more than 5 stars you could give Bingo Dog Training. I would give it 10, at least! I have attended many of Cynthia's classes, sent my dog to her house multiple times for boarding and board with training. I have also sent many of my friends to her. All with FABULOUS results!!!!! My dogs are part of my family and I am very picky. Cynthia is very wise and well educated about many breeds, issues and learning styles. She is honest and VERY compassionate. There is an instinct and intuition in the way she works with animals that you can't learn out of a book or on a video. I had a wonderful experience with Cynthia, and I'm looking forward to working with her again! Cynthia demonstrates the skills needed to be a great teacher - communication, clarity of content delivery, and patience. Being a teacher myself, I was very pleased with the way Cynthia structured and provided her class with a detailed timeline of what content was going to be covered when, a manual which provided thorough detail of each skill covered, and "homework" - a packet with a weekly checklist of what skills to practice at home before the next week. All of these resources, when actually used by the student, does create a positive learning experience. Cynthia was very quick to respond to my emails, and she was very understanding of my position of a frustrated and discouraged owner. She was always very encouraging and honest with me in a very graceful manner. I reached out to Cynthia when I was desperate for some guidance on how to manage my 2 year old Chihuahua mix, Bambi, a very sweet yet reactive and pushy pup. I was no longer able to take her to the dog park, to social gatherings, or walk peacefully outside because she was barking and lunging at every living thing around her. I'm not exaggerating. She was literally barking at everything - other people, dogs, cars, skateboarders, bikers... EVERYTHING! I became so discouraged and overwhelmed that I was dreading our walks. I was desperate for any guidance to help me help my pup be a good canine citizen again. Somewhere between the day I got her as a 7 month rescue pup and the day I couldn't take her reactivity anymore, Bambi had experienced something that lead her to develop her inappropriate behaviors. Cynthia and I worked together to better understand where Bambi was at the beginning of our training. I had signed up for a package deal, which included 3 hrs. of private consultation, and a 6 week course. Our first consultation took place in my apartment, where Cynthia met Bambi and did an extensive assessment, which consisted of a thorough interview of my history with Bambi, and several exercises to see how Bambi would respond to different movements and sounds. By the end of the night, Cynthia had given me a few exercises to begin working with Bambi, and she also encouraged me to contact her anytime. This 2 hour consultation gave me hope and reassurance that I had found a trainer that Bambi and I can work with. During the 2 weeks before our 6 week group class session began, I had emailed her several times with more questions, and she always responded to me within a day, if not the very same day. I really appreciated her speedy response, and it helped me to continue to be hopeful and not give up on Bambi. The group sessions were also delivered effectively. Given that Bambi had negative behavior issues with other dogs and people, Cynthia gave me directions on where to position Bambi and myself to ensure safety for the rest of the class participants throughout the entire session. Every time Bambi was reactive to something during the class, Cynthia explained to me what was happening with Bambi and how I can interfere or even prevent the behavior from happening. She taught me a lot about a dog's posture and behavior, which helped me build my own confidence for knowing what to expect and do when I'm out on a walk with Bambi by myself. For our final hour of consultation, Cynthia took Bambi and I for a walk around the neighborhood, and showed me how to respond to Bambi's reactive behavior. This was SO helpful, and I was able to apply what she taught me during our walks the very next day. Fast forward 6 weeks, and Bambi and I are now walking peacefully around our neighborhood again, and I even have been able to take her to the dog park after over a year of not being able to go to one. I know this is just the beginning of a long journey, but Cynthia has helped it to be an enjoyable one thus far. If I could give a zero a would. I was very disappointed with Cynthia Edgerly of Bingo! Dog Training. I called her for a private in-home training session to work on my dog's reactivity to other dogs while on-leash and other dog-dog interactions (resource guarding, redirecting, etc.) that had escalated to the point that someone was going to get hurt. Here's why I wasn't satisfied: 1) You would think to work on dog-dog interactions/aggression, you would need to bring an unknown dog into a controlled environment to work with the 'problem' dog -- Cynthia did NOT do this despite me asking her ahead of time if I needed to arrange to use a friend or neighbor's dog. We walked around near the local dog park (dogs inside but none around outside), which was a poor approximation for encountering a dog on a walk. 2) She showed me how to work on 'heel' 'watch me' and 'u-turn' as a way to redirect my dog's attention away from other dogs while on walks -- all the same techniques I learned at group obedience training classes. My dog's reactivity is much more severe than these training techniques can address. 3) She wanted to show me how to use clicker training but then FORGOT the clicker and had me making different clicking noises with my mouth during the session!!! 4) She sat with me for 1 hour ($100) going through her questionnaire and told me that she would write up more detailed recommendations based on this questionnaire after seeing my dog's behavior. Nothing to show for that time because she never sent me any follow-up recommendations (all I got was the 3 commands I was already working on with him). 5) When I told her my goal was to be able to get to a point where I could walk my 3 large dogs together (2 are already fine together, it's just the third that stirs things up), she told me it would be nearly impossible and that she rarely walks more than 2 large dogs on-leash at one time. Can you imagine paying someone to train your dogs that can't even handle walking 3 dogs at the same time?! 6) We didn't talk about the other issues I wanted help with (e.g. redirecting and resource guarding) but Cynthia does know from her questionnaire what time my dogs get their breakfast and dinner. WASTE OF TIME!!! DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!! read more

I have had great experiences working with Cynthia at Bingo Dog Training. Her level 1 class was fun and moved at a good pace, and I was able to learn and try many different techniques with my dog. I also liked how she got to know each dog's personality and tried to work with that as well. My dog was overexcited around other dogs and had a hard time focusing, and she helped me find a way to make the class work for him. I also hired Cynthia for one-on-one training, to help us with some serious behaviors around the house (biting, aggressive herding etc.) when we first adopted our dog. Her advice and guidance were invaluable, and by doing what she taught us, we were able to resolve the situation. My dog has also boarded with Cynthia a few times and she has taken excellent care of him. He loves visiting her property. Her yard is all set up for dogs and she also takes them on fun adventures. We call it doggy summer camp. I have recommended Bingo Dog Training to many friends, and will continue to do so! read more
