Our family welcomed a male chocolate lab from Stofer Labs this past spring and we couldn't be happier! He stayed four extra weeks for training and came home potty trained with a very strong foundational training (sit, stay, come, heel). He is now 10 months old and about 85lbs of solid muscle. 1 year ago our family got a started puppy from Stofer's Labs and I must say, it was an absolute delight. This adorable little pup was incredibly loving and sweet, always eager to shower you with affection. Not only was this our puppy (Scout) loving, but he is also a bundle of fun. I wrestled with writing this but decided it was time to add a review. We adopted a female pup approximately 3 years ago. We have used four professional trainers, spent thousands and thousands of dollars to little avail. The trainers have all have told us she has extremely poor impulse control, extremely anxious, and questioned her breeding, suggesting she was not breed well. One trainer told us she was the most anxious dog he ever met. She can not be left in any room unsupervised as she destroys the contents and I do not let her around my three year old Grandson unless she is on leash. Keep in mind we walk her approximately 4 miles each day to abate her hyper-activity. Two of our vets independently commented that she was - and I quote- "over bred" While the breeders are friendly and the pups adorable, I would highly recommend you select a different breeder for your home and family. read more

Finley is now 8 months old and doing great.She has been attending puppy social classes and then into basic obedience class at the local Humane Society . The instructor has been watching her progress and commented on what a good looking dog she is and that she is calm for her age . Our house hadn't been the same since our dog, Jake, passed away back in October 2019. After attending the Golden Gate Kennel Dog Show in January 2020, we decided that we were ready for another one. We researched various breeders (Sterling Lab Puppies, Hylakes Labrador, Tuscany Labrador Retriever, Rooster Valley Labradors, Varian Kennels, Black Cloud Kennels) and ultimately chose Stofer's Labs. Stofer's was recommended by our daughter's kindergarten teacher as well as my wife's coworker. Moreover, a litter was born in early Jan 2020 so pick up in early Mar 2020 fitted well with our schedule. My Five Star rating is explained below. We love Stofer's Labs This is the third time we have placed Daisy in their kennel while we travel to not so friendly pet accommodations. Each of the three times, Daisy has come home totally warn out from playing so hard. She is a social animal for sure. She loves all people and all dogs. She is great and we love her. When we drive up their driveway in Prunedale, Daisy begins to wag her tail and she gets so excited.  In fact she never looks back when we drop her off. She loves Stofer's Labs for sure. We are so thrilled to have purchased a Labrador puppy from Stofer's Labs. Stofer's Labs are different in many ways. One in particular, you pick up your dog 8-10 weeks after birth. Your dog will already be started on Potty Training, Comfortable on Lead, healing, commands of Heal, sit, down, and they have had a lot of socializing with humans and other dogs. their studs and bitches are OFA certified. They are very protective of their beautiful blood lines. They also provide training and other services after your purchase. Is all you have to do is ask. The employees are very helpful, knowledgeable and just great people to I trust your prize possession It's been a wonderful experience and Daisy is continually reward us daily by doing all the things they taught her prior to us picking her up. She has maintained so well and she had learned several other commands, such as, want to go for a walk, want to go to the park, go get your leash, she retrieved her leash in record time to the person who placed the request. She plays soccer with the neighbor boys and she is good. They can't hardly kick the ball without her blocking it. Stofer's has a well-organized crew. Their communications are far clearer, more useful and more prompt than comms from other breeders I have dealt with. Although the website says that they breed on site, they bring in pups from a lot of small breeders around California. Not only is this misleading, it makes quality assurance more difficult. And Stofer's prices aggressively, to put it nicely. Charging $10 for a few minutes of extra care time at their boarding facility, and charging the full pick-of-the-litter fee for litters where there is only one dog of the type you ordered. You could do a lot worse, but the operation might want to review those Bible verses they sprinkle throughout their website. read more

Yes I got my white puppy just in time for Christmas last year, his litter was 10 born on Halloween (my fav day) so that was a sign...I never thought I would get another dog, as my beloved Golden passed in 2002. My daughter had been sending me photos from Stofer's Instagram account to get me to consider this. I have been in chronic debilitating spinal disc pain for 4 years and she had hoped this might add to my overall happiness I must say, it was really rough the first 6 months...my Molly didn't bite, bark or chew as much as my Sawyer (boys are different). I started actively looking for a good breeder since the spring time of 2019, and I was set on Stofer's Labs that summer. A year later, I finally placed a deposit in April 2020 and brought my puppy home at the end of June. Although I did not get a puppy from the litter I originally chose, I am so happy with the litter he came from - he was from Caleb and Winnie (Winnie's first litter). We met Winnie's owner on pick-up day. She was super sweet and friendly. I can tell that Winnie and her pups were with a loving family who took great care of them. They even sent us home with photos and a letter their daughter wrote us. Throughout the process to until this day, Kim has been very responsive to my text and/or emails. I recently contacted her about the amount of food I should be feeding my now 7-month old puppy, and I trust her feedback. I appreciate ALL the information she sent me home with - it helped a TON, especially as a first-time dog mom :) I truly appreciate that she is still helpful and responsive even months after I brought my puppy home. I purchased a puppy from Stofer Labs on April 7, 2024. The puppy developed loose stool within 48 hours. I took the puppy to the vet on 4/12/24 and the puppy tested positive for Giardia. I am now trying to get rid of the parasite both in the puppy and my yard which I was using to house train the puppy. I have adopted puppy's in the past feom th pound and they didn't arrive home with parasites. These puppy's are very expensive and it is completely unacceptable that they are infected with any parasites when sent home. I would not recommend using the breeder as a result. read more

As a first time pet owner, we wanted our boys to get an opportunity to select the puppy, train their furry friend and experience the tiny fur ball growing into a strong and confident dog. We went with Stofer's Labs after reading reviews and decided to reserve the puppy. After few months of wait time, when it was time to pick up the puppy, we found ourselves in the middle of moving our primary residence. Hi I got my lab from Kim at Stofer's and she told me that my dog was going to be a pure white lab I showed her pictures of my dog that had passed away prior and I also was told that I could come and pick out my lab in Prunedale at her location later I was told that I was going to be getting my dog somewhere from Idaho from her business partner Scott and he would be driving out the puppy of my choice since no one had taken the pick of the litter so he was sending me pictures and I all along I was under the impression I was getting a white lab just like what I had in terms of color and when I got Lucy she's four months old now and she's turning like charcoal gray all over and I'm not happy I reached out to Kim and I gave her all kinds of issues that I felt were wrong and her eyes were droopy and her response was trying to tell me that " some dogs have black skin etc" I then sent photos of my dogs droopy eyes. My vet said we would watch it for awhile, and if it doesn't get better it may require surgery by an eye vet. Her response was " some people love labs with droopy eyes. She then offered for me to bring Lucy back and she'd find her a new home and refund my money. I told her that she has already bonded with our family and my two mini daschunds. to just give her back is unkind. I suggested a refund of a mutually agreed amount. I also suggested and could come pick out another dog in person as I had initially requested. she's already bonded with all my other dogs (see picture of the 3 of them) I've given her a lot of options I feel like she should return my money or some of the money. Now she won't return any of my calls nor will Scott and I am considering having to get an attorney over a dog that I spent over $3000 for that is not what I paid for so I highly recommend that you be very careful by choosing Stofer's lab because you don't know what you're going to get and unless you see that dog in person you may end up with a dog being brought out from somewhere else and if I would've known that I would have picked a lab from another breeder but I didn't want to have my dog flown across the country now instead my dog had to driven all the way from I believe it was Idaho or Montana so I would say run from them I am so disappointed!!!!! After i wrote my review I heard from Kim who was upset that I used the word bitch to reference the "mom" dog. I was trying to use the technical term for the "mom" dog. She would have preferred Dame. I meant no disrespect to the dogs. Since I can not change a review after 30 days I am writing again to explain the use of that word. While Kim did offer to give us another dog since our experience was and continues to be so challenging, trading out a dog, even after one week when you have children is really impossible. We waited six months to get our puppy. The puppy was crazy like all other puppies when he got home. He bit everything he could find including my wife's feet. We communicated with Kim to get advices from her. We followed her advices and sent the puppy to training classes and took him to puppy socials. Months later, he turned out to a gentle, calm, well-behaved puppy at age of 8 months. He never bark and bite anymore. He never touches anything in the house that is not given to him. He learned fast what behavior is acceptable and/or unacceptable. He tries to get us to play with him. But when he sees everyone is busy at work and study, he just patiently lies down by my side. We lost our 10-year chocolate lab in June 2019. It was very hard for our family and particularly, it was a big loss for me. I did not think that we were ready for a new addition to our family. The loss also affected our other dog. So, after talking with a friend who recommended Stofer's lab, I thought that I would just look at the parents and the puppies. Around September 2019, I visited the location and was happy to see that the dogs and puppies were very healthy and taken care of by Kim and her amazing staff. I found Bear to be a beautiful dog. So, I started to ask questions about his puppies and past litters. I learned that his daughter had a recent litter. So, I checked out the litter. . .they were so adorable. I knew that I couldn't get another chocolate lab. So, I took time with each of the black labs. I finally put a deposit down. Best decision I made. Unfortunately, when I decided on the puppy, it was taken. I waited for another litter, but this time it was from Stofer's Sterling and Stofer's Rosa. We finally decided and took him home. I know that our puppy would not replace our lab who passed away, but he has brought so much joy and laughter to our home. I am happy that we chose to get our puppy from Stofer's. He's been so great, so gentle, and so funny. For first-time owners, remember these puppies grow into big dogs. Do your research. On the surface, this place seems idyllic: bright green turf, numerous pens with lots of room for the dogs to exercise, a hoard of labs to greet visitors. After talking on the phone with Kim (who is nice although scattered), I scheduled a tour of the facility. I was introduced to many of the male breeding dogs, but the females I asked about are not on site. It turns out, many of the puppies are not born nor raised on site but around the country by "breeding partners". I then asked how many litters the females have. Michelle told me they are bred every heat from the time they are just a year old until 8 years old. This was shocking. Dogs go into heat every 6 months. After doing some more research and math, I came to the realization that these dogs are pregnant or nursing for 8 months out of every 12. FOR SEVEN YEARS. They only have 2 months between weaning and pregnancy. Kim assured me that all her breeding dogs are OFA certified for hips and eyes. However, the OFA website states that dogs must be 24 months old to be OFA certified. But these dogs start breeding at 13-15 months. ????? Bottom line: ask questions and be wary of any answer that sidesteps the actual question. read more
