We were in a bourbon club when we lived in Charlotte and I heard so much about Binny's but this was my first time going to one. This downtown location is likely one of their smaller stores, but it still had a great selection. We were here about 4 PM on a Tuesday and there was hardly any customers. Their bourbon prices were $5-10 lower than NC ABC prices. They also have wine, soda, mixers, snacks, and cigars. If you're in the area, definitely check them out. read more

Pretty good location here. They have a free parking lot, so it makes for easy access. There is an armed security guard at the front door, so you know you and everyone else is a bit more safe. If you're from out of town, you may find the store pricey. Here's what happened to me though. I saw a 12 pack of beer that I wanted. The price on the cooler was marked $12.99. Not too bad I thought. This is the closest Binny's to me. I recall years ago attending a Yelp Elite event at another Binny's location and being shown an excellent time. Sadly, this was not the case here. There was kind of a depressing vibe to this business. For all that the store is vast it is hard to find anyone to help. I managed to find someone who might have been the manager, or perhaps a distributor, as he was not wearing a name tag. He directed me to the area where the whiskeys are kept, as I was looking for Writer's Tears. Was definitely underwhelmed with the selection, as only the Copper Pot and Double Oak were on the shelves. After this, I browsed around, if only to make the trip worth my while. I opted for a tasting (sampler) pack of Dalwhinnie and a bottle of the Clark and Sheffield tequila, having gotten into tequila over the summer. I later learned this is the Binny's house brand. At least it did not break the bank. Hashtag live and learn. Moreover, the cashier was rude when I asked him why the credit card chip reader kept beeping even before I put in my card. With his wannabe expensive watch and short-sleeve black button down shirt, he clearly had delusions of being a bouncer. I think I will be sticking with my local store, Uncork It! as it is more convenient, offers deliveries, and can order items not in stock. read more

I always love shopping at Binny's. This River North location is small but filled with great things. Last night it was also filled with a ton of staff. I appreciate they were ready for the holiday crush but there were so many people hanging around in small groups chatting, that it was difficult move through the store and keep a safe distance. One male employee kind of coughed/cleared his throat as his passed me!!! Come on. You have to be kidding! The parking lot is kind of wonky. There is a narrow entrance with a decent decline. The small lot is L shaped. Once in a spot, it can be difficult to back out and navigate to the hill to get out. I would not want to try to park a huge SUV in there. The security guard welcomed me warmly. The tons of staff were all friendly. The woman who checked me out could not have been kinder. She was friendly, personable and professional. She assisted me with my box into my cart, which I appreciated very much. The entrance is filled with fun gift items and specialty swag that you shouldn't miss. In addition to a great new bottle of wine, local liquor, and chocolates, I picked up few stocking stuffers. I even found a whimsical pair of socks. Who knew?!?! I fully recommend Binny's. I prefer the larger stores but I will definitely return to this location for the vast assortment of inventory, convenient location and helpful staff. read more

There were many team members greeting and helping individuals find items in this densely packed store with both people and merchandise. Customer Service is definitely an A+! This one worker instead of asking "May I help you" he just staring looking crazy blocking the aisles. It didn't stop with just this worker. The other workers were just standing around talking about their personal life. Not once paying attention to their customers. Rude and Unprofessional. Since I love Binny's. This is a great Binnys location. The customer service is good, and the sales associates are knowledgeable. The prices are very reasonable compared to other stores. The store is huge and it has a wide selection of wines, beers, and spirits. I went to a Wine Tasting event in the tasting room, and I had a blast. I would return to this location. Been going to Grand Ave since it was Zimmermans in the 80's. I don't drink but do smoke cigars. I usually now go to the South Loop location but popped into Grand yesterday to buy 5 cigars for a poker game. Grand ave got rid of their walk in humidor and now have a case with limited options. I wanted to buy 5 Liga Privada toros for about $19/each. There's nothing unique about this cigar but they have a one cigar limit. I spoke with a heavy set "customer service" guy and simply asked him why they have a one cigar limit and he he told me that it was the requirement of the company Liga Privada which was a bold face lie as I simply drove down to the south loop location where they have a walk in humidor and somehow was able to buy 5 at that location. It's bad enough they removed the walk in humidor but to lie to me is simply unacceptable but to be expected in today's world. Makes more sense just to order on line or to go to a real cigar store. read more

I do a fairly good amount of traveling around the Chicagoland area and Binny's can be very hit or miss. However this is probably the worst Binnys in the Chicagoland area. It's ok if you want run of the mill beer and wine (think Corona/Budweiser), however they put all these unnecessary hurdles if you want to get anything out of the ordinary. This store is notorious for holding back craft beer and whiskey, anyone that frequents this store can attest to that. Saving any good beer/whiskey for the "managers friends" are just unnecessary games- if you're trying to get something special hit up the other binnys (south loop/LP) that are under better management or any of the dozen liquor stores around the Chicagoland area that don't play stupid games. Unfortunate situation as this is my closest binnys- also most cashiers are pretty rude and you can tell that they don't want to be working there. read more

I shop for bourbon and Scotch whisk(e)y. The selection here is very good, including some pretty esoteric rye and wheated whiskies from states other than Kentucky. Don't expect to walk in and find Buffalo Trace Antique Collection sitting on the shelves, but you may find a rye whiskey from Washington State that you've never heard of or a 1.75l bottle of Macallan you've never seen. And as someone who was expecting big city sticker shock, I was pleasantly surprised also by the reasonable prices for what was available. Must stop location for booze in Chicago. read more

We stopped by after dinner on a Thursday (an hour before closing) to grab a couple of bottles of wine for a party. They have quite the wine selection! I was really impressed. Contrary to what others are saying about being hounded, we went to go find someone for recommendations. The employee who assisted us was really helpful! She asked what flavor profile we were looking for and our price range, and gave us a couple of options to choose from. In the line to pay, we were asked if we wanted to sign up for a rewards card. I ended up doing it cause it saved us some money and it was pretty quick and painless. Overall I was happy with my experience here. This is the first Binny's I've been to, so I can't compare it to other ones, but I'm a fan. I'll be back! read more

BINNY, BINNY, BINNY! While it may not be as cheap or have as much selection as a Total Wine, for the Chicago area their prices and selection are by far the best around in my opinion. And as a pretty frequent patron, their craft beer selection is consistently rotating and going on sale. They also seem to carry a lot of the west coast heavy hitters; i.e. Ballast Point, Stone, Firestone, etc. etc. (West Coast represent!) I've never had an issue with service at this location as some have seemed to complain about. And most noteworthy is they typically have brand reps on Friday afternoons and on the weekends giving out free samples. I recall doing a few shots and getting some free CH Distillery vouchers on a Friday evening while picking up a few things. Anyways, if you live near by would definitely make this you go to spot to restock that bar. Be sure to sign up for their free membership to take advantage of their price specials. I host a lot of gatherings and parties at my apartment, and Binny's is the first place I go to for alcohol. They have a huge selection of beer, wine and spirits. Everything is priced to reflect the city, but it is cheaper than most places I've seen. If you don't want to drive out to the suburbs or outside Cook County to save a few extra bucks on alcohol, then Binny's would be your next cheapest option with a larger selection. They sometimes have really good sales too, so that helps when you are getting ready to purchase huge amounts of alcohol. They also have plenty of mixers and even some great party supplies. Sometimes they would have a few samples out for you to taste but I am not sure how often that happens. I have their rewards program, but I think it only works on wine, which is a little annoying, but it's still an okay deal. I find myself buying more wine than I do any other alcohol. If you get to 500 points (not 100% certain), you get a 10$ discount on your next purchase. Points are calculated through a 1 point = 1$ equation. If you buy expensive wine, then this is the card for you. You can also add the card to your apple wallet (if you have an iPhone), but it crashes 75% of the time. The employees are all super friendly and helpful. They know the store really well and some of them can give great recommendations when asked. I like sweet wines mostly, so when I asked one of the employees for help, he literally took me around the entire store and showed me almost every single sweet wine bottle they had. It was nice to know my options so I don't have to stick to Stella Rose the entire time. I haven't had any issues with this store or their service yet, so here's to 5 stars. read more

I've never been so mad at an establishment in all of my life. My husband found out that they sold my favorite bourbon, which is Old Weller Antique, so he bought a bottle. I went in, asking the same man that brought him the bottle from the back, if I could purchase a bottle myself and was denied. Shot down, swish swash! I may be female, but I can assure you that I drink bourbon with the best of them. But I'm completely aware that the bourbon world is prodaminatly male and this wasn't the first time that I've been discriminated against and denied at a liquor store. The next day I decided to go back and ask a different person, I'm pretty sure that he was a manager, he did allow me to purchase one bottle of my OWA. My husband went in and the same man mentioned that he has several other rare bourbons available and $450 later, my husband came out to the truck strutting and flaunting his scores. Just for the heck of it, I went in and asked the manager if I too could purchase only one of specific bourbons that my husband just walked out with, and noticed the quantity available in the computer. Well, low and behold, I was given the same response as the first attempt at purchasing OWA... Access denied. That's not even cool. While I'll still enjoy his bottles, I want my own. I forgot to mention that when my dentist heard that I was going to Chicago, he recommended this place and asked that we pick up a few bottles of scotch that he can't find in Kentucky. So on our first day in Chicago, I picked up his scotch and a few things for my trip. After his purchase, and mine, I spent over $300 there that day. Which really doesn't matter, but to think that as a previous customer, I was recriminated against infuriates me even the more. read more

I shop here mostly out of convenience since it's right in the neighborhood. We were buying lots of alcohol for my 30th bday bash and I placed an order with Kevin a few days ahead of time. I informed him what time I'd be by to pick it up and he promised it would be waiting for me. Unfortunately, when we arrived on a Friday morning there wasn't anything waiting for me...and they couldn't even find my order. Apparently Kevin had left due to a family emergency (hopefully everything was OK) and never put in the order. Another Binnys employee, Ken, came to our rescue. He had the order delivered (free of charge) the very next day. Unfortunately, when it was delivered they messed up the order quite a bit, but the super friendly delivery guys came back with the correct order within 20 minutes. We ended up drinking only about half the alcohol (that's what happens when half your guests are pregnant), but it was super easy to return everything we didn't use. And next time hopefully it will be just as easy to place the order! read more

A Great Adult Beverage Depot with Everything You'll Need. This place has a great wine and beer selection where you will find a beverage for your mood, taste, or desire. I'm not much of a hard liquor drinker, but they had a good selection of that too. I went straight to the beer section and had lots of different styles to choose from. They have a section where you can build your own six-pack and I love those! I built two made up of an eclectic mix of stouts, pale ales, and IPAs and had a nice weekend. Great selection and variety makes this one of the best liquor stops around (the south loop location might be better). They usually have pretty good deals that you can take advantage of if you have a Binny's card. I also was able to score some of the best kettlecorn I have ever had in my life. The staff is incredibly helpuful and will go out of their way to help you find what you're looking for or even order it if they don't have it in stock. They have a great selection of craft beers and wine, but I enjoy their whiskey selection the most. There is plenty to try and experiment with, even an unusually large selection of meads.
