I would understand if it was something like a community drive hosted in honor of a particular patient, & these generally take place in venues like churches. However, it isn't as if donors are present by the dozen in the donation center in Worcester, and they reject those without an appointment. Fine. Just don't make an impassioned plea to je that supplies are running low & nobody will come in to donate. Seems to me Governor Baker spent months giving the middle finger to small businesses in particular. Now some are content to give it to themselves through very restrictive terms of business.

I don't usually leave reviews, but everyone was so nice that I feel like I need to get the word out. I had never donated platelets before (only whole blood) and toward the end started feeling really woozy and nauseous. The staff were so quick, responsive, and sweet about helping me feel better. They were also very attentive throughout the whole process, making sure I was doing okay and getting me blankets when I got cold, and making sure I stayed for a little while after so that it would be safe for me to drive home. They also have Netflix set up on individual TVs (with headphones) for people who are donating platelets, which was great since the process takes a while. Literally every employee I encountered was so friendly and kind. Even though the donation itself felt kind of crappy in my case, I will be happy to go back and do it again knowing I am in such great hands!

The office is beautiful. Modern, clean and professional. The staff is super nice and accommodating and go out of their way to make you feel comfortable throughout the whole process... The money is way more than any other place will pay you and you get paid quickly. (The other places can take 4-6 weeks to pay)... As far as the actual procedures... they are easy and nothing to worry about. Even the bone marrow donation (which sounds a little scary!) was simple. The doctor and nurse were fantastic and put me at ease during the whole process by explaining what is going on. Honestly, all I felt during the entire 45 min procedure was a little pressure during the extraction and it only lasted a minute... The majority of the time is just the staff setting up for the actual procedure... *** This is the best and most generous $$$ research Lab I have ever gone to... If you want some quick and easy cash, while feeling good about doing a very great thing in helping crucial medical research, then this is definitely a Win/Win!!!

You go in, donate blood (takes about 30 minutes), they give you cookies, a lollipop, some water, your $50, and you're done! You must wait 56 days between donations. The staff is really nice, and Tom (the director) is just the greatest! This place passes your blood on to be used in medical research, not as transfusions or to otherwise be given to another person. I dunno if that matters to anyone, just thought I'd toss it in there, since I knew it.

For another, the RI Blood Center seems to be affiliated with CT now, and they have stepped up the donor recognition since the merger. All Season donors (those of us who give once a season) can register for an annual gift. While I appreciate the recognition (and the way to casually advertise blood donation in the wind), I give regularly because it's the easiest possible way to save up to 3 lives with each donation. It's the best way I know to give back. Try it!

The receptionist is friendly and efficient, and the waiting area is comfortable with cushioned chairs and a tv. There are usually snacks and water bottles on the check in counter. All of the staff I've encountered here have been friendly, polite, and very competent. I always make an appointment and have never had to wait all that long after my scheduled time. The donation area is also clean and comfortable, and I've never felt more than a needle prick of pain while donating here, the staff are just awesome at what they do. They take great care to make sure you are comfortable and feeling ok throughout the donation process. The rest area for after you finish donating is really nice as well, and it's stocked with cold drinks, an awesome coffee & hot cocoa machine, and packaged sweet and salty snacks. I always go for the Lorna Doones. Definitely recommend this location - It's my favorite place to give blood and platelets in RI.
