I have been donating here for as long as they have been open in Bloomington, IN. I have recommended them for years to friends and colleagues, however currently, they are a horribly mismanaged operation. They are severely understaffed and and that creates horrible wait times for donors. You are required to make an appointment for donations, no problem. When you show up at your pre-determined appointment time you may still have a two hour wait just to be able to get in and donate. In fact you might even check in just to be sent back to your car to wait for a phone call, so that you can come in and wait in line. But yes you had to have that appointment, that means absolutely NOTHING. To make matters worse, they have multiple front office personnel, and nurses walking around that are either unable to or unwilling to step in and help speed the process along. The staff on the floor is great as always but when it takes two hours to get out to the floor it is ridiculous. The management needs to take a look at what is going on because their current procedures are idiotic. read more

I understand the other reviews with 1 star. If you go at a busy time like when everyone gets off work expect a decent wait time. With that said I have donated at 5 other biolife centers and the Bloomington location is by far the best and it's not even close. I have waited 4 hours at other centers. The longest I have waited at this location is 45 minutes to be seated. The staff has always been very friendly to me. I have never left a review on yelp, but I saw their rating and it is completely unjustified from my personal experience. read more

Amazing place to donate plasma! Staff is incredibly well trained! I wish the phlebotomists everywhere were this good! The playroom is great, too! I have zero worries while my kids are there, but if there's something I'm not comfortable with it gets addressed and resolved! As far as I'm concerned it's the only place in Bloomington to donate plasma! read more

Very very short staffed! I understand the staffing struggle as I am a nurse but donors should not have to wait 2-3hrs to even get to donation chair. If they know they will be short staffed then they need to limit the number of appointments they take. I will not be coming back & finding a new donation site/organization. read more

The rudest staff. They all clearly don't like their jobs and when they get super busy they just have power trips. I have never seen more unfriendly staff. Honestly their are nicer servers at Dicks Last Resort. It's honestly never even worth going to this place. They are always behind and have the slowest people working. Have of your time here is new people cutting you when you've already waited 2 hours just to get a needle put in, rude bitches running around telling you to stand exactly in the x even tho everyone is 6 feet apart with mask on, then once finally get a needle in you just hope the card they provide will work. read more

I began donating plasma here in February of 2018. From the start, the staff was very welcoming and friendly. They are very knowledgeable about what they do. Also, they do it day in and day out, so they are very good at doing it quickly and efficiently. With that said, accidents do happen. In the medical field, this is to be expected. Though an accident has yet to happen to me personally, I have seen the staff take care of others in such an event quickly, professionally, and politely. Some of the nurses are a little more rough with the needles than others, but all of them are very kind and fun to talk to. They love to engage with you and make sure you are comfortable and healthy through every step of the process. The business hours are accessible and the lines move very quickly. read more

My boyfriend and I moved to Bloomington and were wanting to find a plasma donation place now that we live here. You need proof of address, mine was accepted, my boyfriends was not. They were the exact same thing 2 paychecks (we both worked at the same place) but he was denied service. We bring back differrent mail that gets denied. So we leave. Then we call asking what exactly we need and what will or will not be accepted so we don't have to drive half an hour one way to be let down again. We also asked if we could schedule our appointment over the phone and she denied us saying we needed to use the app. The app DOESNT WORK. It's one thing after another with this place. read more

Woman who gave me my physical was very rude. She did not listen when I gave her my medication list and skipped over a very important med. Then, she tried blame it on me that apparently I had not told her. When I told her my medical history, she seemed to be offhanded ridiculing me for not knowing the reason I had previously been septic several years ago, as the doctors who I was under the care of had no idea in the first place. When she denied me to donate, she was very unapologetic and curt. I don't recommend donating here because of the unfriendly staff if you have any prior surgery or mental health diagnosis. read more

I have been going to BioLife for a few months now and I've liked every staff member I've met until now. One of the nurses, the black one (really pretty) was very rude. She didn't say hi, ask how I'm doing, if I was allergic to tape or iodine, she didn't even tell me to make a right fist before she jammed the needle in which caused to to feel pretty uncomfortable the whole time. She didn't ask me if it felt okay, if my arm was comfortable, or anything that I'm asked and I appreciate every time. She also bumped into the cart and some needles and other things fell out. She looked down at them and kept walking so a different nurse had to go pick them up when they noticed them. After the donation she still didn't say a word to me or ask how it went. I understand that people have bad days but cmon. Unreasonably rude. People get anxious about donating sometimes so it's important for people to be friendly and welcoming. I have visited upwards of 7 times give or take. two of my last three visits ended horribly. first one they sent damaged red blood cells back into my body resulting in me peeing blood and having abdominal pain. more recently, this afternoon I went in for my second visit of the week (should be paid $50 for the second visit) and the nurse stuck the needle through my vein causing bleeding under my skin. the same nurse then tried to stick me in my other arm and I said I was uncomfortable with that seeing how she just caused minor internal bleeding on her first attempt. I was sent home with no apology and was paid less than half of what was promised. I called to ask about this and they explained it was a policy they have that was never told to me and refused to compensate me for either situation. very rude over the phone the entire conversation. ill never be returning and I recommend the same for anybody. read more

The employees at Biolife are nice and do their jobs (hence the 2 stars), but before you start selling your bodily fluids, you might want to do some research about these companies first. After doing research, this is what I've found: this is a for-profit business. For-profit plasma businesses pay you for plasma and then turn around and sell it to big Pharma for thousands of dollars. So you are essentially selling your bodily fluids for something like 50 bucks, and then they turn around and sell it for $1000+. Then big-Pharma uses your plasma to manufacture medicines to make more money. Not only is this a big rip-off, but only about 20% of plasma donations actually go towards saving people's lives on top of that. Therefore, businesses like these open up in college towns and low-income neighborhoods because they know that people are desperate for money--and thus exploit the financially needy. Fun fact (more like alarming fact): America is the only western country that says it's okay to donate plasma twice a week. All of the other first-world western countries allow plasma donation once every two weeks. Non-profits, such as American Red Cross do not allow people to donate within a 28-day period. Now, with this information, decide for yourself what the true motivations are in giving the public recommended # of donations in a given time span, and how the is information is different based on where it comes from. I've gone once to BioLife not knowing what it was about. After the first visit, they called me again to try to get me to come back. Although they were nice, the pushy sales-like tactics they displayed (while I was there and during the phone call afterwards) reminded me of a sales job I used to have, in which you are basically trained to manipulate people into buying stuff. This left a bad taste in my mouth. I can only speculate but it makes me suspect they have a quota to meet. The desperation was all too familiar. So, go ahead, donate plasma for money--but ask yourself if this is really too good to be true. Are you really saving people's lives every time you donate? How far will these businesses go to exploit you? Is this really good for you? I almost fainted and my blood pressure dropped to a dangerous number the one time I went and they told me this is "normal" and then proceeded to try and get me to come in the next week--which was the opposite of what my doctor advised me to do (he can tell me the truth, after all, he doesn't have a quota to meet). Research what people experience after donating frequently year after year--they will almost always confirm that YES there are long term side effects that they don't tell you. So this is what I've found. My ultimate motivation is encourage people to look into it further and decide if it's right for you, not necessarily dissuade people from going. Everyone deserves to know what's really going on. Just don't go in blind. read more

I'm only giving this place 2 stars because I still appreciate the purpose behind this service; however, the customer service is awful. The workers and nurses were rude and inconsiderate of your time. Before the appointment, they tell you to reserve 2 hours for your first appointment. Reserve more like 3-4 hours. After my sister waited 2 hours in the waiting room at her second appointment (because they declined her the first time after the 2hour enrollment process), a nurse finally told her that she would be late for her job if she proceeded with the donation. They didn't even draw her blood! She wasted 4 hours of her time and was late for work, despite listening to the directions given to her before the appointments. Finally, I, and every one of my friends, have been declined to donate plasma every time we come in due to a reasons that are extremely minor, such as not having a "full meal" before donating, having a small scratch on your arm, or for having an allergy to latex. There is always a ton of time slots open on the app to donate plasma, but there is not enough nurses to help with the patient load. It's sad that the only plasma site in Bloomington is understaffed, and the staff they have make the experience bad. The token money they give is not worth the hassle and treatment. read more
