The nurses who prescreen donors play favorites! Some are obviously Racist as well towards melanin skin tone donors. They play ratchet loud rap music with offensive profanity in the lyrics. I've been visiting this BioLife location since it opened. Overall, I find that the extra cash, coupled with the opportunity to help those in need, makes for a rewarding experience. However, it does come with its downsides. The cash reward program changes often, so I recommend checking your email for any current deals. New donors usually receive attractive incentives, ranging from $800 to $1,000 for eight donations. Returning donors typically earn around $40 to $50 for their first donation of the week and about $60 for their second. You're allowed to donate up to twice a week, totaling eight times a month. I think it's best to donate for a couple of months, then take a break for a couple of months to give your arm a rest. The staff is generally very friendly and helpful regarding the procedures. However, occasionally, you might overhear them expressing frustration about being there or the number of people coming in--which is understandable; I do the same at my job. Speaking of the number of people, your visit could range from 40 minutes to up to 2 hours. I've seen the line wrap around the entire lobby, with what seemed like 50+ people waiting for vitals. In my experience, weekends and later weekdays tend to be the busiest times. What prevents me from giving a higher rating is the inconsistency in the quality of the venipuncture performed by the phlebotomists. Sometimes, the procedure is so smooth that you hardly feel the needle, while other times, you feel every bit of it. I'd say there's about a 50/50 chance of experiencing a painless procedure. I've been in sections where the phlebotomist stuck 2 to 3 people, then had to have someone more experienced come back through to readjust the needles because of no flow. My worst experiences have been when they stick my arm, can't find the vein, and then proceed to wiggle the needle around for 5 to 10 minutes. This is coming from someone with prominent veins, so don't assume that being lean will spare you from similar experiences. Once, a technician repeatedly asked if it hurt while probing my arm in various directions trying to find a vein. I told him, "Well, it isn't exactly the best feeling." Overall, if you need a little extra cash, don't mind a bit of discomfort, and have an hour or two to spare, I'd say go for it. Just make sure to eat beforehand and drink plenty of water. I am really surprised by all the negative reviews. I have nothing but positive things to say about the facility and the staff. The people who work here have always been polite and professional in the 40+ times I have donated. They always check to make sure I'm comfortable and if a donor has a medical reaction, the nurse team responds immediately and gets them fixed up. I've never been to any other donation site, but this place is clean and well run. I feel like I'm in good hands when I donate. read more

Customer service is at an all time low this week. It took me 15 minutes to get someone's attention to check why the machine kept beeping and the withdrawal stopped. During the return it took over 20 minutes to get someone attention to check the slow process. When I asked why it took 35 minutes for the return I was told I must have dirty blood and then I was quickly dismissed to go have a good day. The second day I had to return to the clinic as I was not compensated the correct amount. The manager did credit the account but offered no other compensation for me having to drive 40 minutes back to the clinic. I was dismissed by him saying I am making too big of a deal out of the mistake and I could have chosen to get this corrected on my next donation. NO! I needed to withdrawal the correct amount that day. read more

Appointments mean nothing. You can wait for hours before being seen. What should take 90 minutes ends up taking 4 hours. New people get front of line service. Had 5 people pushed ahead of me today. Ive been told its because the enrollment takes so long and need to make sure its within a timeframe of eating. Does this not also apply to everyone else? I'm not sure what their problem is but there's a lot of their employees who do a lousy job of sticking the needle in. Usually they locate the vein, swab with alcohol for 30 seconds then wait another 30 seconds before they do the stick. The thing to watch out for is if when they stick you if it's burning they're in the wall of the vein or completely missed it. Or they stick the needle in then start feeling around to see where the needle is, when this happens you have an inexperienced person jabbing you. You can be deferred from donating for 8 weeks because of their lack of ability to do their job properly. Then you'll be told you probably weren't hydrated enough but in my case I do 180-210 oz. Of water the day before so I know I did my part. Very frustrating to take the time the day before to prepare yourself to donate only to have an employee screw do a lousy job . They will still have a job and you'll sit it out for 8 weeks. You can always ask who do you call when there's a problem and have who's ever in charge of your station do the stick instead. I like to give everyone a chance to do a good job but it's a crap shoot at this facility read more

Depends on what day and what time you go, staff is friendly, most of them are helpful, the new people forget about you after they've hooked you up, women's bathroom is not kept up throughout the day. Expect to be there a couple hours. The process is pretty easy though. read more

On my first appointment my heart rate was too high but I was told I could come back and try again. On my second appointment I passed the vitals and physical, got into the chair to donate. Unfortunately had a reaction and had to stop half way. I suddenly wasn't feeling good, and the nurses/techs were really nice to me. I was nervous I wasn't going to be able to continue donating, but I was told that this common for the first time. The clinic was really busy on both visits, but I was still treated kindly and the staff still took the time to walk me through this process. I would highly recommend this to anyone. As a SAHM this is a great way for me to get out of the house and get a little side hustle money that I can use to pay for her birthday party and presents. read more

On Google, the hours are wrong. All the BioLife centers I visited, said you have a 15 minute grace period. Google said they close at 5 pm, I booked my appointment for 3:55 pm. I got here at 4:03 pm. They wouldn't see me, and stated that there's a 5 minute grace period at the beginning and end of the day. This is not stated ANYWHERE in the building, and it was never told to me when I first started donating. This location was the only appointment I could get today, and it's 30 minutes from my house. The manager would not allow me to donate. Between work and school, I don't have plenty of time to come whenever. The only days I can come, are Sundays and Mondays, but you can't come 2 days back to back. Such an inconvenience to drive all the way out here, and the hours are wrong. The least the manager Erica could have done was put a $10 credit for when I'm able to donate again. Just shows she couldn't care less. I have been going to bio life for almost 5 months now. They have been using the Coban wrap every time I donate, I recently started a new birth control that is making my skin sensitive , dry, and itchy. I asked if they had something else they could use, and I was told no! This happened twice, I went back, and they won't let me donate, i have already explained why this was happening , so I explained again, so they tell me i need a doctor's note,and they need my medical records!! Give me a break. They can clearly see i started a new medication because you have to report changes, and I had the redness appear on the injection site only , nowhere 1st. What happens if ppl are allergic. To the coban or latex What do you do for them??? In this big facility and franchise, you would think they would have options!! Let me also mention that I was wrapped with medical tape, that the Asian nurse approved and before I made it to my car, I had blood running down my arm, and on my clothes , I had to return so they could wrap my arm again, I am very disappointed, in the Pearland location in the way this was handled. hello, i went today to donate, turns out my vein was a bit too small. i developed a hematoma and i ended up feeling lightheaded and throwing up BUT doesn't take away from how AMAZING and sweet the staff was. i was asked continuously if i was okay. given a snack and electrolytes to replenish my body. id def still recommended this place. every worker was patient, sweet, and their work felt genuine. as soon as you walk in they make you feel welcomed and i was always greeted with a smile. this was at the webster location. read more

This is my very first time donating plasma. My good friend does it regularly so I thought I'd do my part to help our community as well. The parking lot was full when I pulled up so I knew it would be busy. I was warmly greeted by Amanda at the front desk. She checked my temp and signed me in. I had a bit of wait before I was seen, but I totally get it. It was a full, busy day. She processed my identifications and got me all set up in their system. Off to the next station to get my finger pricked! The phlebotomist was nice enough. Long story short, I was unable to donate. Not their fault. They have strict guidelines. I get it. So, I will have to try another day. The only reason I am giving 4 stars, not 5 is because I noticed the phones were ringing off the hook and weren't being answered. One person said he kept trying to call but no one answered. Perhaps a dedicated person answering the phone line would expedite the process? Anyway, other than that, my experience was fine. DO NOT GO HERE! ALL MONEY IS NOT GOOD, AND THIS MONEY IS NOT WORTH IT. The phlebotomists here are insensitive and rude. Their process is slow. And refusing to be a pincushion for any phlebotomists struggling to find a flow will get you suspended from their program. My experience here the first couple of times was fair. However, the process for a physical and donation is exceptionally long, regardless of an appointment. Plan for your first visit to take 2-3 hours. My first two visits were faster. The process of donating was smoother--only 1-2 hours. However, the phlebotomists are impersonal every time. Once you receive your colored card for a donation section, you become a product, not a person. They do not care about your comfort or your pain. Since you are getting paid to donate, customer service is not a priority here. The phlebotomists on my third visit struggled to find a flow in my left arm. So she wiggled the needle and inserted about three times, trying to get a discharge. Her repeated insertion and wiggling caused me to bruise. I would think, at this point, she would ask for help. But rather than asking for assistance from her colleagues, she continued to reinsert the needle despite seeing how much pain she was causing me. I then requested that she try the right side. She couldn't get a flow from this arm either. By then, I couldn't take the pain anymore for her to try reinserting it in this arm too. So I requested she stop. I later learned that requesting her to stop could permanently suspend a donor from the program. The nurse also informed me that even a request for a senior phlebotomist could get a donor suspended from the program. Then the nurse handed me a laminated form to remind me that I was voluntarily subjecting myself to all this and that I was guaranteed nothing. Although I understand what I signed up for, it still does not give them the right to treat you like an experimental pig. Overall I hope they do better because donating plasma is essential and a great cause to contribute to. But Biolife doesn't have to shit on donors just because donors reap financial benefits for participating. And I hope they clean the rock flower beds outside because the same trash has been sitting there for weeks! read more

The facility is good and the money is good for the first time donors. After that, the money they offer is much lower (may not be worth it if only one time per week). As someone else mentioned, take a blanket because it is cold. There are 2 reasons for the two star review. Both reasons are because of some of their staff. First, when you are a first time donor, you cannot avoid the phlebotomist Esmeralda "Esme". She seems nice at first, but she is a drama queen. As you sit there and observe, you can see how she creates problems. In my case, she was extremely rude to me and not caring at all. After your first donation, try to avoid Esme. The second reason is because of another phlebotomist named Alejandro (Tall guy with curly hair). He tends to flirt with girls so much, and if you observe him, he just looks at women up and down like if he wants to get with them. So, if you are a male and your girl goes to donate, be on the lookout for this guy. He just doesn't get the hint. I went with my girlfriend, and he really made us both very uncomfortable. If I was his boss, I would talk to him about hitting on women. Very unprofessional. Makes you not want to go back. read more

This location on Richmond is doing solicitations under knowingly false pretenses I received an email saying I could earn $500.00 in 4 donations with the initial donation being completed by 5-28-23. I went in on 5-24-23 and was told the first available appointment would be 6-4-23. I asked would they still honor the coupon and was told yes they would. I went in for my appointment on 6-4-23 and was told they could NOT honor that coupon. How can I start a long term relationship with an organization who lies from the very beginning ? I was going to do my good duty to give plasma as I do blood... sorry I walked out! how am I going to let them do a process of getting in my blood in this dirty place. I red reviews and it stated plasma is needed to save lives, I felt as if I stayed in their my longer I'd catch something. When you set a appointment it is not a one on one.... I was repeatedly turned away to donate because my eating and drinking schedule bothered the check in staff . I have been donating at this location for 3 years. I was gone for a few months because I had surgery. Returned a few weeks ago. It feels good to donate, problem with this facility is they never answer the phone, they are always under staffed, I think they move slow just to make us wait longer in line. My appointment was at 6 pm, I don't get out of there till after 8. Only 1 person doing vitals. I just feel that the need for plasma is huge and the company needs to step up and give workers some moral!!! Give them a reason to come to work. When I first got there during my physical, they were very professional and nice. my first 2 visits of the big bonus for new donor worry. I had very qualified phlebotomist. My third visit I had a phlebotomist that you could tell was just learning how to. Put a needle in you. and I know this by. They have 6 people per section and 50% of them were having flow problems. So it wasn't the patient, it was the phlebotomist. And then I'm deferred for 8 weeks because they couldn't find my vein. And because of this I leave no new donor fees. read more

I hadn't donated in a while, so the BioLife app didn't inform me that I needed another physical exam, I only found out when I went to my donation appointment. It takes weeks to schedule a physical and I had already started a promotion, so now I won't get the full amount of the promotion. If you have ANY type of scarring on your arm do not waste your time going here. After wasting an hour of my time I was turned down to be a donor because of my "track scars"...I have donated blood at LifeShare many times and they never had a problem with the acne scars on my arms. Turns out, the needle goes in just the same! I was basically accused of being a druggy, "track marks" the nurse called them. How any nurse could mistake acne scars with track marks is beyond me. When I lifted my shirt to show that I have acne scars all across my body that look just the same as on my arm, I was met with the rudest remark possible: "Eww, do you take anything for that?" "No", I responded. "Come back when it clears up", the nurse said... I've had these scars since I was a teen! This shows the lack of both knowledge and professionalism on the nurses part. As a result they build up crazy wait lines, expect to be there at LEAST 2 hours or more. Expect to sit with the needle in your arm an extra 20-30 min after donating because of how terrible their service is. Severely understaffed yet they don't hire anyone to offset things. The staff here is the most rude and inconsiderate group of people I've ever seen at an establishment. Their skill and ability as medical professionals is also sub-par. Be prepared to wait in long lines as the employees chit chat about lunch, weekend plans etc.. the women's bathroom is always nasty, blood on bathroom doors and paper dispensers, trash over flowing and left sink always full of water or out of service. Rude staff that think their doctors and think you're here for them. Lots of wasted time waiting for employee's to stop chatting about non work stuff. People waiting for beds when plenty beds are open. floor techs cursing and not watching for inverse reactions to people, stick you and walk away. Two Hematomas in two weeks. The nurse tells you to look online in what I should be doing for the hematoma. Really great advise from a nurse. Shouldn't they tell you what care needs to be taken since they caused this and are the "nurse"? And they give you attitude when you ask how to care for a Hematoma. I was stuck, and lost blood to the point I had to wait 30 minutes before I could leave. They wrapped my arm with blood all over the arm area and some still dripping out from the wrap. That's what I call care for their clients. And, rap music blaring most of the time. if you like to waste time, in a dirty medical environment, with in trained and un-caring staff come here for sure!! read more
