If I could rate less I would. Advertise bonuses in lobby and never pay out. Suppose to get extra each DONATION for being a vet. But don't. Complain about it and their records show they did. So cooking the books They used to pay 50 and 100 Now its 40 and 70 without informing client. They claim they have contest. But will then claim it's not for the 6th ave office. This is one of the worst places to donate. It has gone completely downhill, and it looks like it is going out of business. The pay is mediocre the staff is disrespectful and incompetent, they lie and make things up all the time. Do not give them your time it is a waste the pay won't be what they tell you I was there for 4.5 hours and got 75 I was told it would be 100 for the first 4 when you're a new returning donor. when I called, they said it would only be 40 and 50 for the 2nd and 3rd and so on. I promise the pay is not worth the wait. The whole time I had to listen to the staff complain about each other, their pay and how they hate this location and the donors. Waited nearly three hours for first time before leaving, and good chance I'd be there for four (one person ahead of me, and it was an hour between new donors being taken in). Their competitors in the DSM area offer appointments or have new donors go to the front of the line. Their process was so terrible they had people signing up to have their name called to sign in on the otherwise unused kiosks. This place has no respect for its customers time. read more

This is the worst donation plasma center. I have ever been to I successfully donated in eames Iowa for 3 months before transferring here as I'm getting ready to relocate. I have been at the Des Moines center for 2 months and if only been able to successfully donate twice. The third attempt they went through my vein. Pull back out, try to Rego back in left. Severe bruising then attempted to try the other arm. But the guy had other things to do. And he was in a hurry and he had a nasty attitude, so he missed and hidden nerve. Another then I came back had to have a Van check. What's checked by Heather? Who had just stepped down from running the facility? Because she rolled her eyes and shook her head and was talking to another donor about it. Not being a good situation. She denied me said my veins were too small. And she couldn't find The Other one I Then was checked by raven who is great. She said yes, the left side was branched off. But the right side she felt was just fine. I waited from 9 AM till after 10:40. Still had at Ben stuck to even start the donation process. I had to leave per. I had prior arrangements for an interview. Add 11 and had not even started the donation process at 10:40. Some of the staff have very nasty attitudes, horrible bedside manners. I have had to contact corporate. If anybody would love to have corporate number, they would love to hear about people's experience. Now because they're mad that I called corporate on the incident Friday now here is Sunday. I went to return to donate and they said that I could not donate because my lease that I presented them was not good enough even though I had donated for 3 months in Ames with the same lease that was approved. I then came here was approved 2 months prior with the same lease. But now because they're upset that I called into corporate and complained. They will not accept my lease now and as I walked out. I stated in my opinion I feel And Because I stated how I felt and my opinion. One of the gentlemen there wants to defer me but is not even the operations manager. So he will be contacted on Monday. As he was there Friday when I had the incident. He also spoke with me and told me to let me know how it might experience. Was on Sunday, hes just started. Hes actually the one that took over for Heather. Who stepped down because it was too much and was too much b******* Is what was stated to another donor city? Next to me on Friday. She no longer hooks anybody up or anything. The only thing she does is unhook people now. Most staff are not certified flipbottomis but are just trained to where they leave that facility. They cannot practice flabbottomy anywhere else on. Tell they go to school and receive a degree. So if anybody else would like to call in and let them know of their experience at this center, the number to corporate is 185569752762. I would also like to let you know that. Most other donations centers pay more. The only reason they pay a $100 for the first 4 times is because they are having a hard time keeping donors. Any getting donuts to return per what? They told me when I came down and started. That was their incentive to get people in and hopes to get them to return and continue. read more

I literally spend 7 hours here to get poked twice and, the first time the lady didn't insert the needle right and my vein started bleeding out, the needle was literally in but my blood was leaking out all over the place. My vien felt so much pressure. The nurse was also horrible I brought my sister for a buddy referral and my sister is dyslexic and has trouble reading, the nurse Peggy M literally violated her hippa rights and blurted out that my sister couldn't read and that she got a few wrong on her test. Instead of helping her she told her to leave that she didn't pass . My sister felt so embarrassed and humiliated she left. When one of her co workers told her not to do that she stated she didn't care because she was gonna leave that job in a week. By far the worst and painful experience I've had donating. The manager gave my sister a 20 dollar bonus if she came back but after the humiliating experience she had here she chose to stay in the car and not donate. I wish I would have recorded this experience because it was bad. read more

I was hesitant about coming here because of the reviews but after 6 visits , I'm not really sure why the rating is so low. Coming from a facility in Denver, this place is extremely fast. There's hardly ever a wait to get looked at and sent back. Everyone is extremely friendly besides a few grumpy gills but nothing to deter you from here. 5 stars for sure in my book. read more

The staff is very pleasant, polite and knowledgeable. The times that I've donated I was out in 45-60 minutes. To me that's fast.

Biomat in Des Moines is a walk Plasma Center expect to be there for a couple hours the first visit. In my research, Biomat has the best ongoing payouts. Typically it is based on a 2x a week visit. Once established, it takes 1-1.5 hours based on the number of people waiting. Typically they have you in and out. I think I'm averaging 35-40 dollars an hour if I have to figure it out.... Overall the staff are nice and do their best to make it a good experience. Would recommend Biomat if you are considering donating. read more

I have been donating plasma at Biomat in Des Moines Iowa for over 20 years now. I've watched it grow over the years and have seen many advances in the medical technology that they use. I have gotten to know some really nice people and twice a week I get to see them when I go donate. I really like being able to help others that are less fortunate. Girlfriend was turned away because someone apparently didn't like the smell of her jacket. Neither of us smoke or had drank and even one of the front staff said he saw nothing wrong, and wasn't sure why she was denied. I spoke with management and nobody seems to have a clue what happened, claiming that they weren't even sure who said it. Nonsense. Six people up front and one manager, a four hour wait, and she had already gone in once at first and nothing was mentioned. That is not only confusing and suspicious, but unprofessional, rude, degrading, and simply ridiculous. I'm not judging when I say this, but there were people who smelled of fast food and musty clothing that got in and out no problem. We arrived before 90% of the people in that room and were the last two left. A heinous place, if even just for this event, and I would suggest not even using the parking lot unless you need the laundromat adjacent to the place. Insulting and apathetic. Bureaucracy takes up most of the time spent there. The compensation is slightly more than biolife, but it is hardly worth it. My mean visit is at least 1 hour 45 minutes (whereas Biolife takes 1 hr on average), and on multiple occasions I have spent over 2 hours 30 minutes before finishing my donation. Constant turn-over with staff means that people are being trained regularly and this takes extra time for my donation. I try to coordinate my donations with my obligations, but often I end up late to my obligations because of what I speculate is the bureaucratic and plain incompetency of staff members. On many occasions I have waited for staff members to finish their lunch breaks before I can get prepped to donate. On many occasions I have finished my donation and still spent 15 minutes hooked up to the tubing while waiting for someone to unhook me. I may be missing some key details here, or misunderstand the regulations, but it seems as though the reason for the prolonged periods waiting time are easily remedied by some employee effort. No matter where you live, go to Biolife in Ankeny instead. Biolife consistently gets you done in an hour flat, while Biomat (Grifols) takes 2.5 hours on a slow day. Biolife pays $70 a week for two visits; Grifols pays $65. Before moving to Iowa, I happily visited Biolife in Indiana for a year with zero issues. The staff were always very polite and professional. In just three visits to Grifols, I personally witnessed my own blood spurt out of the machine like a water fountain. The phlebotomist asked her manager why, and he quickly responded by saying that she set up the machine incorrectly. So I am now deferred for two months, meaning that I cannot donate anywhere. Beyond that, the staff cusses up a storm like no one can hear them. It doesn't bother me much, but it may bother somebody out there. Don't bother with Grifols (Biomat). read more

GRIFOLS is conveniently located just off of University on sixth Avenue with always available parking. Make an appointment and you are usually done within an hour. It is a very clean place with a very pleasant staff. It's the only place I would go to donate plasma. So if you want to make a few bucks, and possibly save some lives and help out the community, then this is the place to go. read more

Pretty good place to donate. One of the major downfalls of this location is the fact that they are most always understaffed especially at known peak times. Workers are sometimes irritated or upset about things and it is quite easy to notice from a donors perspective. Overrall, a really good atmosphere, just wish they could get a grasp on the staffing needed to handle the influxes of donors. read more
