I have heard good things about the course, so next time I will need to give it a full try! The range was nice. There were quite a few people when we got there, but slowly people left. (probably because it was later at night and getting cold!) The range is across the street from the clubhouse, so you will have to cross the road.

Maintenance had been lacking the past few years, but the 2015 season was much better. Even the practice green by the clubhouse is in great shape, where it used to be a mess. The clubhouse is retro in the best way, a step right back in time to the 1970s, with great views of the surrounding forest. Too bad the downstairs area is so underutilized, it could be a great cafe/bar area. Green fees and rentals are priced average for the area. But they also have specials throughout the season that makes this one of the better values in the area.

(Couldn't let the group pass) My girlfriend takes me to Bear Lake and to go golfing for the first time. Made sure to get early reservations 24 hours in advance. Staff allowed a none-reservation group to start teeing off 5 mins after we started. (Very dangerous they were hitting balls towards us!!). We were going to let them pass us but they had a big party and never got close enough to let them. 40 mins in and on the third course, management cruised up and started to berate me and my girlfriend. She said that we were taking too long and that the group behind us was complaining. She then started to berate me for being slow and actually told me to get better or start hitting where my girlfriends ball lands. When I told her the group was hitting balls at us she said "well you're going too slow." Honestly I'm writing this review to warn others. This was my first time golfing and my first time at Bear Lake. My experience has been ruined and I never want to golf again. If it's your first time I'd recommend staying away from this course and enjoying another one.

I would recommend grabbing an extra few golf balls although hopefully you'll hit them straight and not lose any! If you're playing the front 9, I recommend a cart. It's pretty mountainous. The course is very beautiful and well maintained. The bathrooms are updated and clean. All in all, a great course! My wife is still learning and won't play anywhere else. It's well kept. Front 9 is very flat, classic style with wide, tree lined fairways, medium sized greens with some undulation but nothing too crazy. Standout holes are #6 and #9, both fun par 3s over water. Back 9 is a little more challenging, modern style, open and treeless, with more sand and larger greens. They host a lot of local scrambles here throughout the season. Staff is friendly. Clubhouse is old and doesn't have many amenities, no cooking onsite. Bathrooms are small but pretty clean. Equipment pricing is higher than the average clubhouse. Preston is my getaway course, away from the hustle and bustle. Relax, breath in the fresh air, take it all in, admire the greenery and hit a few balls with my family. This is as good as it gets.

The food was just ok and their hours were hit and miss. I guess Iam spoiled . Belong to a course in California ( Bear Valley CC a private course) in great shape and is playable all year with membership less expensive. When we move up full time I will give it a 2ed try. The folks that work there are very nice and respectful.

This golf course is a blast. Lots of elevation changes. You tee off to fairways 150-200 feet below…read moreyou and on some have second shots straight uphill. About every type of shot is covered--long and short par threes and fours, forced carries on a few, greens are lightning fast and it's amazing how the fairways are kept so lush and green, seeing how it's in the desert. At almost 7000 feet, your ball carries and rolls forever. Can be windy in the afternoon, so morning tee times are best. Purple Sage is a destination course with hotels nearby or just stop and play it if you have some extra time traveling on I-80. Green fees are ridiculously cheap...wish this course wasn't 800 miles from me. :)
