Consider purchases here to basically be final sale. The owner is rude too. They know a distracted parent isn't going to notice signage at checkout. And my child fits true to size on most major brands. The clothes from this brand are very weirdly cut. And no, I don't want random crap from the gift shop next door. I need clothes for my kid. I wish my money wasn't being held hostage on receipt paper. Cool. Had I known they don't do refunds I would have told my mom not to buy the kids clothing here. The items are cute, but the fit is very weird (long body, short arms, too tight even an extra size larger). You have just 2 weeks to bring an item back and for store credit only. Not sure what good that does me when the clothing doesnt fit and most of the toys are for babies. And the store credit they give you is on thin receipt paper. So I hope I don't lose it. Not for those looking for a cheap gift, Bird And Bean is a great spot to buy a stylish gift for a little one, or maybe their mammas. They stock mostly super cute clothing and accessories, I'd say for mostly toddlers and up, a nice, but limited selection of higher end baby gifts, and a section dedicated to those stylish mammas. I definitely spied some really nice bags and jewelry pieces that would make me very happy. I ended up with a super cool book about a little boy architect and a pretty snazzy $8 barrette for a cutie I know. She of course had no clue what she received, but her parents were very happy. Return is for store credit only, and again you won't find many bargains or deals here. (They do have one sale rack in front with $20 pieces of clothing.) A+ for the great and super fun and free gift wrapping and Yelp check-in offer for a 10% discount. Definitely a great spot when looking to buy a special occasion present for a certain little person! Unreasonable Return Policy: I stopped by the store for the first time on Thursday to buy a quick gift and card for a colleague's baby shower. Bought an adorable bib, spoon and (what I thought was) an $8 card. The next day, when I took the card out of the plastic, I was really confused to find that the card didn't open, or even have a back to it (almost like a postcard that can't be written in). Instead it just had the decorate dangly ornament that hung on a string, attached to paper. Because the description of the product read "written on inside - 'Congratulations'", and there was no such message to be found, I just assumed the card was defective and that I would return it. Unfortunately, today I was really disappointed with my encounter with the store employee, who would not provide a refund - only store credit. When I asked if there could be an exception made, given that the card seemed to be misleadingly labeled (as there was no inside inscription with "congratulations" as labeled), I was instead shown the product details online that seemed to show the "card" was in fact only meant to display the dangly ornament that was on the front. All this to say - as a real customer operating in good faith, with every intention to use the item purchased - I was really frustrated with the lack of reasonable costumer service in this instance. It seemed like a very minor issue of a misleadingly labeled product, but I felt like I ended up being blamed for not somehow knowing that I wasn't meant to be a card (as labeled). So beware, the items are lovely, but if you find any issues with your purchase - don't expect sympathy. read more

Baby extravaganza! I'm not ready ever again for a baby, however OG Dad loves them! Shopping for my bestie's new born boy, I had to find something special. But what prompted me to come write this review is that one of the employees (perhaps owner?) heard my baby crying and generously offered that I was welcome to nurse him on the couch in the connected shop next door (I assume they're owned by the same folks). Not sure what happened with the shirt after it was returned to your shop... As mentioned, the only time it was on my child's body was when he quickly tried it on in your shop. We found his lost shirt in the bottom of his back pack when we got back to the car after leaving your store so he did not need to wear yours. Your shirt stayed folded in the bag your clerk put it in when purchased and was returned that way - in new condition, never worn. Attached is a photo of it laid out on your counter when I brought it in for return - not dirty, no wrinkles, nothing all over it... We never spoke, though as mentioned, I did try several times, without a response. There would have likely been no reason to leave a review if we had. Your clerk DID tell me that you would be willing to review my situation which is why I tried so hard to reach you by calling so many times to try and have a dialogue with you - with no response. I am a reasonable person would not expect you or anyone to bend over backwards - I simply wanted to be called back to have a dialogue. I visited this store to buy gifts for my newborn cousin and her older brother. Being a 22 year old with no children, I had no idea what to get them. However, the sales associates were super nice and helped me find the perfect gifts! I mentioned my cousin was fascinated with New York, and the sales associate showed me a beautiful children's book about the Statue of Liberty. I am pretty excited to show him the book because I think he will love it! She also thoughtfully recommended a book that turns into a puppet for my cousin to play with his newborn little sister. While the gifts I found were perfect and unique, I do wish they were a little less expensive. But YOBO, (you're only born once) ammirite????? Unfortunately this store does not stand behind its items. I bought a baby toy bin/hamper here for over $40 - pricey but the print was cute. After about a month the hamper developed mold on the bottom Of it. I brought it in and was given suggestions for removing the mold by the owner. Unfortunately the suggestions did not work and after washing it several times (according to the items instructions) the item lost its shape and is no longer usable (plus mold is still there). The store did not allow me to return this or offer store credit or an exchange. Disappointed in the quality of this item and the service provided for a relatively expensive children's item. read more

You can tell the care the owner puts into choosing what is shown and carried in her store. It's totally appropriate and well placed for the area. The style and ambiance is totally trendy, fun, Oakland. I like to support small businesses - especially local, so it's nice to find a store that provides quality gear and a friendly atmosphere. This place is an amazingly curated and stocked store with the cutest and mid to high end clothing, shoes and gear for Mommy too. Everything the new stylish Mom and her bundle of coolness needs. No pink "Daddy's Girl" onesies. It's all bamboo pjs's with squids and zebras. They also have genius sippy cups, suction plates, awesome hampers and the best shoe selection ever. As far as pricing is concerned-you get what you pay for-the clothing won't fade or fall apart. The customer service always fixes any problems and knows me by name which is great. Wonderful store for buying gifts for children! Make sure you ask the owner (Rachel, I think?) to help you pick stuff out - I found a ton of really cool stuff this way which my nephew absolutely loved. She also insisted that she gift wrap everything which I probably wouldn't have done otherwise and the wrapping paper (sharks, of course!) was also a hit :) Only thing to be aware of is that the items can be a bit pricey, although totally reflected in the quality of the products. They lose points though for not offering boxes. You can pay $5 for gift wrap or take your gift in a bag. A baby store should provide boxes, especially at this price point.
