Merchandise is okay, overpriced. Customer service could use some help. I saw that they offer free gift wrapping, which was a huge draw. However, the gift wrapping consisted of putting the item into a plain white box and adding a ribbon with a poorly made bow. What really knocked them down was the credit card fee that I was not told about. I would have paid cash, but the cashier didn't even ask how I wanted to pay and just assumed I was going to use a credit card. Won't be returning to a store that deceives their customers into paying a fee. read more

Terrific items and wonderful service. The owner has now helped me twice and has always been very very helpful. I was unaware though of a fee on my credit card until i got home on the first occasion and my wife pointed this out. I don't understand why this should be....i don't think i have ever encountered this in my life without a sign telling you about this OR being offered the choice of cash or credit ahead of time . This should be corrected immediately or just done away with. Its kind of tacky in an exquisite shop with beautiful merchandise. I will not stop shopping there because of this because its so great to have this paragon of a gift shop close by us. read more

Pelago is one of my favorite shops to buy presents! Everything is the store is special. I love the German glass bowls they have ... they are so beautiful for salad at dinner. I get so many compliments on them. The owners really have a good eye for things to give everyone on your holiday list. And they wrap everything too which makes it so much easier when I get home. Darling little store in Montclair. Stopped in and got so distracted the Vitamin shop next door, which was our primary destination, closed for the day. The merchant for this store is picking out stuff they like ... and not for some theme (Beach Getaway, Back to School in the crisp Autumn, Outdoor entertaining etc ... which I see way too much of). Luckily this person has impeccable taste. You can spend $25 in this store and your gift will look like it was $50. My friends may soon be getting gifts from here ... so if you are someone I give gifts to, don't come here and buy yourself the same thing ... or buy me what I already bought myself. One of two super cute gift shops in Montclair! I actually prefer Pelago over Hatch. There are lots of cool gadgets around this store. I like the way they have their store set up. There's a children's section, home/kitchen, pets, etc. This makes it very easy for the customer to shop. It's not a big shop, but they do have quite a bit of merch. Take your time and browse though. I can't believe I haven't written about my favorite gift store yet! I love this store's selection of modern ceramics, including bowls, pitchers, plates, as well as serving ware and home accessories. This is also a good place to get a whimsical baby shower gift or else a practical "I-love-you" gift (such as a men's leather wallet with an independent insert that holds an ID and cash). The prices are reasonable, service warm and friendly, and you'll have to circle 2-3 times just to take it all in. I appreciate the aesthetic of the buyers and like that the front shelves are organized for color (for those serious decorators who shop by palette). read more

I'm never disappointed by an excursion here. The selection is really well thought out, and I always feel like I see unique little items that I haven't seen before....hard to do. I especially appreciate the pricing. I have never seen an item I felt was too much for it's value, but often see items that feel like a bargain. I have to agree with the other comments the store has very nice gifts but the service is terrible. I walked in the store twice in one day, I was never greeted the woman at the counter looked at me when I walked in and never bothered to say hello. As I browsed through the store a man (I believe the owner) stared at me for quite a few seconds and then proceeded to say, "hi". Not a warm place. I purchased a box of soap and a candle and the woman at the counter asked if I would like them gift wrapped I declined and she said, "good!" In my opinion in these times stores should be happy people seek them out. read more

I received a pair of Robeez baby shoes as a gift a few months ago. They're adorable, but I happened to already have the exact same pair, so I thought I would bring them back to Pelago (they came in a Pelago box) and exchange them for a different style. Unfortunately, in the time it took me to bring them in to exchange, Pelago had stopped carrying Robeez. I was all ready to just make do with an extra pair of shoes, but then they offered me store credit anyway! I couldn't believe it! Now that's a classy boutique! I had no trouble spending my credit in mere minutes because the shop is jam-packed with wonderful things. I was very proud of myself and replaced the Robeez with a different gift for my baby instead of getting something fabulous for myself. It took serious self control! But I have no doubt I'll be back there soon... read more

I generally find gifts for multiple people in one outing, and every one is something I personally would love to receive. Tasteful, unique items for the home, that are not outrageous in price, but make you think carefully about what you are purchasing. Complimentary gift wrapping is simple but very appreciated.
