The pulled pork was good, though I think a bit under seasoned. The brisket was just ok for me. I prefer sliced brisket to pulled brisket because it doesn't dry out as quickly. The mac and cheese, baked beans, coleslaw, and corn on the cob were all good. We ordered delivery to the hotel where we're staying, and the food was warm and on time. They did not include any utensils, which was a bit annoying, but ultimately, we have 10 fingers. read more

We liked the turkey, BBQ sauce, potato salad and the idea of the spud...... +food seems to have good flavor.... -don't expect to get everything it's supposed to have on it..... Will we go back? When you walk in and the smoke off the smoker hits you like a southern Boi fighting in a rough and rowdy match for a can of Copenhagen, you know it's legit. Did the 2 plate meal. A bit expensive at 24$ but, was good portions and the two meats, brisket and pulled pork were on point and filling so no issues. We used to go here regularly when we lived in Colorado Springs. We left the Springs in 2017 and after 7 years came back for a visit. We went back to Bird Dog BBQ with friends for supper and it was as good as we remembered. Our meals had generous portions. They tastes great. Prices were as expected in 2024. On Sunday I had the best ribs, they were so good. I was sad I only got the lunch special so Tuesday I went by after work and ordered 1 1/2 lbs. I watched as the server went to the warmer or oven and grabbed a rack of ribs. I noticed that there were ribs sitting right in his reach as I watched him cut the slab of ribs that didn't look as good as the ribs in his reach. He even asked me if I wanted an end piece I guess he was not going to include but he included a very burnt end he had cut off. As I'm wondering why did he think I wanted the burnt end I asked him why he didn't give me the ribs that were right there in his reach, he replied that those were drier. Are they though? Did they have burnt ends, no they didn't. Needless to say my Tuesday ribs were terrible! I'm going to say they were definitely dried out, I did get the large containers of sauce so I could heavily drench them. The cashier apparently knew I would need a lot of sauce. I'll stick to Sunday ribs and recommend if you're looking for delicious ribs only do Sundays... Sundays also is the lunch special for ribs. read more

Came 2 more times since the last 2 reviews. Love the turkey - very moist. Why 3 stars you ask- its the guy who weighs and loads up the meat. Not friendly. Gave us 2 end pcs. on the ribs that was not edible at all. No part of it was edible. I was reading off my list and asked if I was going too fast he said go ahead and he missed one of the items we wanted. Sad when we got home to share with family. He could have been nicer too. I've been a Bird Dog customer for many years and really enjoy their BBQ. Recently I went in for a couple of turkey sandwiches and was very disappointed in the turkey portion on the sandwich. I have definitely noticed a downward trend in the portion size on the turkey sandwiches over the last year. The last two sandwiches probably had 3 ounces or less of turkey. BBQ in an instant! They have everything ready to go as soon as you come in. All the food that I ordered was fresh and ready in warmers. I grabbed a meal in less than 5 minutes. The prices weren't too bad either and the staff was super friendly. I ordered enough food for about 10 people and loaded up on all the sauces and their sweet tea drink. I don't know if I'm missing something but I have been here twice and both times got dry flavorless brisket. The place itself is awesome and the staff is nice as can be. But I just can't get past the dry meat. The sauces are delicious! But why the meat isn't cooked in that delicious sauce is beyond me. Very tough to review truly dedicated, wonderful employees and establishment that has no idea what a smoke ring is on BBQ brisket. Maybe it's an Okie transplanted into Colorado thing? My order of brisket was shredded, not chopped. No big, I ate it, and flavor was meaty, but not really anything special. Staff wanted to know how I liked it. I asked to see a SLICE to examine the smoke ring and the wonderfully kind counter guy brought me three chunks (not slices) of meat To sample NO HINT of ring on any......it was very weird for anyone from Texas. He explained that Bird Dog had several cooks, and last night's shift wasn't the best, and returned with a pork rib, which was terrific AND it was sliced (thank god) AND it had....A Smoke Ring!!' Brisket was very long grained & grew as I chewed... & chewed & chewed. Coleslaw was no Oklahoma recipe for certain & not good... I'm a coleslaw snob. Was staying in the hotel across the street and saw this place, so I decided to give it a try. First the staff was very polite. I told them I had never been there before and asked for recommendations. He didn't try to sell me on something that was crazy expensive, and gave me honest feedback. The BBQ Brisket Sandwich was great and the Macaroni and Cheese was awesome compared to other places I have been to. The peach cobbler was good, but the crust was a little too soft (mushy). Lastly, as I was writing this, I had not realized that they had closed at 9 (it's 915 right now). They didn't ask me to leave and allowed me to stay to finish my food. I come from Texas where bbq is king. And my humble opinion bird dog is a peasant. Or a cup barrer. I have had this bbq joint three separate occasions and each time I have left dissatisfied. Their meat is dry dry dry (Anne Burrell). Their sides are mediocre. Their fries are decent but lack salt. And their bbq sauce... meh. I personally would choose to come here for a meal. They were a little saucier/runny than I would like. I'd like less sauce, more beans or a thicker sauce. Coleslaw was ok. The ribs were very tender and had great flavor but a bit too fatty for me. The pulled pork was excellent - moist but not greasy at all. Though it doesn't have much flavor and you definitely want to use a sauce. The brisket was good - it is not sliced brisket but more chopped up - similar to pulled pork. They had 3 sauces - wasabi - great flavor, a hot bbq and a more sweet BBQ. All good. Food is delicious! Definitely 4 stars and worth a try. Service is a category 3 due to the fact that one plate can cost 45-50 dollars and I completely understand the meats can cost a bit for 1/4 pound of rib, 1/4 of brisket, and half pound of pulled pork but, When you get the sides of Mac and cheese and coleslaw and it's the tiniest spoonful. Thumbs down on that. It should be a heaping happy portion. I wonder if you eat in and make eye contact if it would be a better portion lol. We walked in and was immediately greeted and told if we had questions to let them know. After looking over the menu I ordered a Polish sausage and made it into a meal with 2 sides and a drink. I got the Mac and cheese and Fried Okra. The Okra is fried to order, so great that I didn't have soggy batter. They were nice and crispy, Mac and cheese super flavorful and the Polish sausage were the right amount of tender and a little crisp on the outside. I actually thought I got the wrong meat at first. My wife did get the pulled pork and told me mine was not the same as hers. I'm used to sliced brisket. The way it was served to me here also makes it too dry for brisket. This said, I would come back to BD BBQ. I'd have me a big mess of ribs for sure! My wife had a hankering for some Brisket, so I picked her up a half-pound on the way home - when I presented it to her, she was curious as to how much I'd bought and doubted my half-pound claim. As I've said before, being from Texas, I'm extremely biased about BBQ. Perhaps that is why I was so unimpressed with Bird Dog. I'm trying to cut back on carbs, so I figured I'd grab some meat and Bird Dog is the closest place (other than Dickey's which is really, really not good). My plan was to get enough to last me a few days. I ordered pulled pork, 1/2 chicken, a few ribs, and brisket. I then unordered the ribs and chicken because they're sauced and the sauce has sugar (not a big deal; almost all BBQ sauce has sugar). So, I ordered turkey and sausage instead. First order of business - there are two ways to 'BBQ' meat: Smoking or Grilling (which is actually BBQ). Smoking involves cooking with indirect heat at low temperatures for a long time, allowing the food to bathe in smoke to absorb flavor. BBQ, or Grilling, involves cooking over direct heat at high temperatures for a short period of time, thus achieving a char of some sort. So, let's talk brisket. Brisket is the staple of Texas BBQ and Jewish mothers (according to The Big Bang Theory). I think the two cultures may cook it differently, though. BBQ brisket is almost always smoked, and in Texas the expectation is the meat should taste good on its own, with no sauce required. The main seasonings are some sort of rub plus smoke, and the smoke ring and bark are the two most important aspects of the overall flavor of the meat (other than the meat itself). So, the brisket is sliced pencil-thick AGAINST the grain and served in slices so each bite gets bark and smoke. Imagine my shock when the guy reaches into a foil-covered pan, grabs a fistful of meat and puts in on a scale. It was just stringy chunks of brisket... no slice, no smoke, no bark. It tastes like pot roast. Mind you, I like pot roast. But, when I order BBQ, it should taste like BBQ. The turkey tasted okay, but only 'okay'. The main problem with it wasn't the flavor - it's the only thing I had which had the smoky taste of BBQ. The problem was it has the same feel, texture and consistency of rubber. I shit you not. The sausage was also okay, but could really use some spices to liven it up. No smoke or BBQ flavor. At least char it a little if you're not going to smoke it. The pulled pork was fairly good. Again, no smoky flavor and no BBQ flavor. The ribs may be okay, and the chicken might be, too. I have no clue. I do know I won't be back unless A) I'm desperate for meat, and B) I don't have time to drive to Rudy's. Seriously - go to Arby's and get their brisket sandwich instead of the brisket here. It's cheaper and tastes a lot better. read more
