As Mcallen natives, we had been dying to try this place for quite some time. We were automatically attracted to the beautiful patio and location. We decided to sit outside during lunch hour on a Monday. The restaurant was filling up, but there were still plenty of spots available and customers were starting to roll in. Our drink orders were delivered and we quickly knew what we wanted to order, so we did! 10 minutes passed..30 minutes passed..45 minutes passed.. still no food. That's when we noticed everyone around us was receiving their orders and enjoying their meals while we were still waiting to be served. After over an hour of waiting, out waiter came back to our table and told us he needed to re-take our order as they could not find the original? Obviously, we were quite upset about this because we saw everyone's plates and they looked delicious. The waiter apologized for the error but knowing we waited an hour just to find out our order was lost was extremely unappealing. We understand lunch time can be hectic, but to lose an order entirely is unacceptable. We will not be returning. Krikee, 1st time there today. Not a great 1st impression. Went around 1 pm Saturday, was told 20/25 minute wait, no problem. Had my fur baby with me. Got sat in only 17/19 minutes, not bad. It gets worse, after he dropped off initial drinks, he literally never came back to check on us or asked if we needed refills. No one came by, we literally saw at least 6/7 different servers, you can tell no one really cared we were there; we felt like we were more of an inconvenience. Coffee cup sat empty, water had no refills; we had to ask a passing by server for refills. Table was lopsided n didn't sit even, liquids kept spilling. No offer of water for my fur baby. I gave her some of mine. Food was absolutely delicious but pess poor service to say the least. They appeared to be disorganized, frazzled, and lack of attentiveness. Once food arrived, it was a quick drop off n they popped smoke. No one asked how steak was, if we wanted hot sauce, nada!! Forgot our side of bacon. Once done, we had to ask for the crepes we initially ordered. You can tell, this place didn't give a rats arse about us. Pretty clear n evident to us. They picked up our water glass, no offer to refill, like they wanted us up n out ASAP. Not sure what we said or did to deserve this but best of luck to ya! When we arrived there was no one here and it took forever to get anyone to take order. Everything was very slow, and they didn't bring the orders out together so I was halfway finished with mine before my wife's came. We practically had to beg to get a drink refill. The food did taste good and on that alone their rating would be higher. Granted it isn't really "guy" food and I would need more to be full. It was my wife's birthday weekend and she was wanting a dessert, which was the main reason we came here, but after 20 minutes of trying to get someone to take the order we decided to cut our losses and just leave. Visiting from Chicago, my family wanted me to check this place out. Looked good from the reviews. It was good,the eggs Benedict were good, omelettes as well, potatoes were undercooked, but good flavor. Coffee was EXTREMELY disappointing. It was super light, tasted like the coffee from those bad diners in Chicago, where you add sugar to give it some flavor or those diners offer flavored creamers to add some flavor. I was really hoping for a good cup of coffee. Took them 22 minutes to refill the coffee, had to get that as they never brought our water. Seems like they need more staff to accommodate. This restaurant seems to be the only one in the area for breakfast that is a bit trendy. I get why it's busy, but it doesn't help their service. Our breakfast took 35 minutes to come out and some of the food was cold. I think it was waiting in the back. As soon as we mentioned, the waitstaff said they had a lot of tables that had to be served before ours. Yet, the food came out in like 5 minutes. Other things I noticed as we waited were a cracked mug, chipped creamer holder and the location of our table. It was placed in front of one of the doors to the building they're at and people kept bumping and moving us around and had to keep getting up to let them through the doors. Yes disappointed with my recent visit to Birdie Bistro. We came by on a Saturday morning for brunch and were very excited because all of the reviews for this place seemed great! To begin with, the decor in the restaurant is just weird. It's like half whimsical tea house but also half cafe but also has a random cardboard cut out of the queen of England?? The brunch menu itself only has like 13 options on it and they are all your typical brunch items. I ordered the eggs Benedict and my boyfriend ordered the chicken and waffles. The eggs Benedict looked promising when it came out. But it wasn't as described on the menu AND the poached eggs were completely hard boiled. The breakfast potatoes were okay but kind of cold. My boyfriends chicken and waffles looked and tasted like it had been sitting out and got cold and was just microwaved before being brought to the table. Only complaint is that I asked for poached eggs and the yolk was fully cooked through. Honestly this place has potential and could do so much better with good customer service! It goes such a long way when completing a good customer experience. Staff should be social, friendly, and engaging. They were not rude in any way, but definitely didn't create a welcoming environment. A simple 'Good morning how is your day going?' Or a 'Goodbye enjoy the rest of your day and thanks for dining with us!' really does make a difference! Instead we had to ask for our check, and then walked out silently with the employee behind the counter on her phone. What a cute little place! Came here after yoga for some lunch. I've been by many times but it's always closed since I'm a late owl. It was so cute! The menu had many names that were a play on the atmosphere. I ordered tea and an omelet. The omelet was delicious. Looked as amazing as it tasted.the few people working there were attentive and brought everything before we even had to ask for it. Instead of just taking places at the end, they politely asked if it may be removed. I like that touch. Verbiage and appropriate service.....spot on! The place was crowded on a Saturday early afternoon, High School graduation must have just taken place so it was really busy with families etc. I ordered the chicken burger with cheese and avocado, it was fantastic! The brioche is fresh and the perfect doughiness (that's my word for a good bun), the chicken flavorful and cooked perfectly, the sauce, just enough to add a nice smokey, chipotle flavor. Chips were fine, I didn't want to make it too heavy with fries but perhaps they would have added a touch more. The service was fine, the food came out within 15 minutes. What a treasure in the Valley! Birdie's is the most adorable and thoughtfully appointed bakery in town. The ambiance is the true star--from the mismatched chairs to the portraits of dogs in tiaras. The desserts themselves were very good, but some could use improvement. Mini chocoflan: Valleyites love their chocoflan--as the name implies, it's a dessert of half chocolate cake and half flan. Perhaps because these were mini or perhaps because it was 4 in the afternoon, these chocoflanes were pretty dried out. Red velvet cupcake: Really good and neither the cake nor the frosting was too sweet. I am pretty picky about my red velvet not being chocolatey enough, though, and this one could have used a tad more cocoa. Coconut cupcake: Surprisingly the better of the two cupcakes. I hate fruit-based cupcakes, but this was light and coconutty, without being overwhelming or artificial at all. Cheescake brownie: The star! In the style of the chocoflan, this is half brownie, half cheesecake. Both were moist and the flavors played off each other well. The cashier told me they are award winning, and now I know why. The only other improvements I would suggest are to have the desserts displayed and to have a menu. They have a large display case with a few cupcakes in it, but when I asked for a chocolate one, she said they didn't have any chocolate today and then named two flavors that they did have but which were not in the case. They also have breakfast and lunch and an espresso machine, but there was no chalkboard or menu, so I had to tediously ask her about each item. My sister and I had been wanting to try this place for a while now and finally got the chance this past Friday night. We had the most amazing experience We walked up to the al fresco dining area and were greeted by live acoustic music.. We chose a table outside on the ground level and immediately were approached by a server... We explained that it was our first time there and she helped us understand both the wine and dinner menus (not that they were confusing at all.. But you know it's just the little things that make a great experience) we ordered a bottle of the house wine (cabernet sauvignon) to start with an entrée of cheese, grapes, bread, olives, ham... Just perfect! We enjoyed ourselves so much we had a second bottle of wine this time a Stella Rosa Red (which catered more to my sisters taste buds) but definitely still super good... All in all, this super cute bistro is totally a must try if your going out for a super cute date or just a really cute night out where you can really take in the city experience..
