Looked for a restaurant in the Belleville area as we were meeting a friend from Port Hope for breakfast. Ended up at Birdy's. Wow!!!! Spectacular breakfast and some of the best customer service ever. Loved the servers and thoroughly enjoyed the food. This place is absolutely top notch and we'll be making the hour long drive from Kingston on the regular. Wow, colossal failure. We arrived at 5:15pm and got seated, hearing from the server that 6 tables arrived just before us (should've taken that as a warning). The server who seated us said she would not be serving us but our server would be along shortly. While we waited for our server, the first server seated another couple and immediately took their drink and appetizer order. After 10-15 minutes our 'server' finally arrived. By then we had pored over the beer menu and selected a couple options. She flippantly told us 'nope, not available' to the first three we chose. We finally picked a beer, and ordered our appetizers and mains. About 20 minutes later, 2 tables that arrived well after we did, started getting their apps and mains. After being in the restaurant for 45 minutes with no food in sight, we got up, paid for our beers (which she then said we didn't need to pay for, because she FORGOT TO HIT SEND ON OUR ORDER). Completely unprofessional and our server was robotic and flippant. Steer clear! The place is clearly understaffed and lacks any sort of management presence. read more

Using Belleville as a base for visiting Prince Edward County, we arrived late on a Monday when most restaurants were about to close. A highly rated restaurant in downtown Belleville turned us away after suddenly deciding to close earlier than their posted hours. Over to Yelp for a quick remedy and we found this place a few km from the centre. Dubbed as "fine casual dining," I was suspicious of what I would find. Happily, Birdy's lived up to its chosen tag line. The food and service was excellent, within a modest and, yeah casual, setting. When we called ahead about 40 minutes before closing, they were happy to welcome us in the late hour with no hint of bother. There's ample indoor seating but we chose to sit on the patio, which was very pleasant and would have been more so earlier in the day when we could see the surroundings. Beverage choices were local but well curated. I had the 8oz ribeye, which was perfectly cooked to taste (medium rare) and had a nice charred flavour. My wife ordered the maple glazed halibut and was pleased with the portion and the fact that it was not over cooked, which is always a risk with restaurant fish. We both loved the mashed potato side, more rustic than whipped and creamed, which is how we prefer it. I bet they do an amazing brunch too. Just saying. read more

Beautiful presentation and so delicious! It is literally a perfect Eggs Benny. Mom and I both chose the Eggs Victoria with smoked salmon, red onion, spinach, capers and dill. I order Bennies at almost every breakfast outing all across Ontario, including from mom and pop places, upmarket hotels and trendy holes in the walls that get good reviews. This is one of the best places! Their Hollandaise is freshly made and the English muffin is fresh and toasted perfectly. Thank you Birdy's Chef, Chad, for putting a whack of love onto our plates! We will be back ever single time I'm back to visit my parents and friends. Our server, Erin and I think, the owner, were so lovely too! This restaurant is a Canadian cuisine restaurant that covers all of the bases! Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner are served here. It is really clean and there is ample space between the tables. The staff is friendly and very attentive to customer requests. This place has a family owned feel to it. There is a lot of room here. By the looks of it, this place could host moderate sized parties and events. There is an outside dining area also, that is set up to be used during the warm weather months of the year. The food preparation and presentation shows a ton of pride by the chef and staff. I had a Caesar Salad with bacon pieces and chilled shrimp cocktail for my appetizer. My main course was the Beef Stroganoff. This dish was very delicious! The beef medallions were very tender and seasoned perfectly! I will say that when I come back here again, this will be my go to dish for dinner! For dessert, I had a slice of the Decadent Chocolate cake, with whipped cream. The cake was really tasty and not too dense or heavy. Do yourself a favor, if you are in the downtown Belleville area, stop in for breakfast, lunch or dinner, depending on the time of day that you are in the area! You will not be disappointed! There is a happy hour here as well, with specials, there is a decent drink selection to choose from. The waitress told me that usually on Wednesday evenings it gets pretty crowded here. Group of 5 tonight... Seated right away/ friendly staff. Menu is short and to the point. A small mix of quality items. Panko fish - cooked well/ good portion Braised beef - best meal 10/10 - fall off the bone. Portion was average but all worth it. ($26) Beef sandwich - quality cut meat/ big portion. Get this if you want lunch. $5.50 beers on tap This meets, no, exceeds all the basic check marks in the food guide. read more

Our favourite breakfast spot was closed that day so thought we'd try Birdys. The waitress was very friendly, efficient, and attentive. Unfortunately for the price, the food wasn't even close to our expectations. The coffee was okay, not delicious. For the premium that we paid...over $50 with tip, we expected everything to taste great....not just okay. Next time we will just save our money and go to McDonald's or Tim's. read more

Great lunch for toddlers. I brought my 3 year old. She had washable markers and paper brought, to keep her entertained while waiting for her lunch. Decent kids menu. She ordered the pizza... it wasn't the greatest. I ordered a burger and fries. The burger wasn't bad.. wasn't great. Allison was our server and she was amazing! I rarely, if ever, write reviews, but this place deserves it. Stopped on a road trip and it was one of the best meals we've had in awhile. Our table ordered the beet salad, prime rib, beef bourignon and prime rib sandwich. Everything was excellent- literally everything. The level of execution from the garlic bread on the sandwich to the seasoned walnuts on the beet salad to the side vegetables (perfect tender-crisp) is something we haven't seen on a consistent basis in a long time. This is as by far the greatest restaurant I have eaten in a long time. My husband and I ordered the white wine mussels with Brie to start, the prime rib and the bacon wrapped filet mignon and we both got the NY style cheesecake creme brûlée style and it was seriously amazing. Went for brunch. Coffee is ok. Ordered pancake - the price is $11.00 plus if you put blueberry additional $2.50 if you want real maple syrup additional $2.75. The plate came, it consist of 3 small pancakes with ample blueberries but the pancake was raw and I can taste the uncooked flour. I don't mind paying extras but I expect the pancake to be extra special. It was disappointing experience!!! read more

For me, the thing that sets this restaurant apart from others is the service. We took my elderly mother there at her request. As we slowly worked our way up the stairs, the hostess came out to hold the door and offer help. As we ate dinner, they checked on us just the right amount, always cheerful. The owner stopped by to chat. Again, as we left, offers of help. Very customer focused, which you rarely see at this level. (Good job! That flows down from the top.) So that's great, but what about the food? I think that, as far as Belleville goes (an area replete in decent restaurants) this is a great choice for dinner. Everything seems to be made in house with fresh ingredients. In many cases, the ingredients were picked that day from the vegetable garden in the back. We enjoyed our various meals. I was having lunch with my mother and sister yesterday, Tuesday, Oct 12th. The waitress, I believe it was Allison, needs proper customer service experience. Overall, she did her job, delivering food. What bothered me and my guests was her rebuttal to me commenting how expensive adding 1 slice of cheddar cheese ($3.25) to my burger. She responded, "it's expensive because we lick the cheese". Wrong damn response. I'm not opposed to humor, but not when I'm ordering food. I would have left right there but my mother has mobility problems and sitting outside was easier for her. Also, when I paid the bill, she said, please confirm your receipt doesn't have all my drinks on it. Again, wrong damn answer. Furthermore, shame on your establishment for charging an extreme amount for a single slice of cheddar cheese. Brutal! read more

Held a monthly lunch at Birdy's yesterday. The owner and staff were really friendly and hospitable. Tina created a menu for our group of 26 with crowd favourites. The food was delicious and came out around the same time for everyone - something I didn't expect because of the large group. Firstly, they need to have a more visible OPEN sign. It doesn't look open, when it actually is. I went for breakfast and was very impressed by the atmosphere ... classy and clean. The waitress is was wonderful, friendly and well trained in her craft. What really let me down was the time it took to actually get my breakfast. This was surprising since I was the only one in the entire place! The most definitely need to improve kitchen time if they want to keep their new customers. I eat breakfast at many Belleville restaurants several times a week and have eaten in nearly every breakfast place in Belleville ... Birdy's prices are too expensive for a basic breakfast. In the end, I paid two times the price for the same breakfast I normally enjoy at my favourite downtown restaurant. I was talked into going back and I'm glad I went! Totally different experience. Went for the lunch, it was delicious and this time got the thumbs up from everyone! Customer service was great. We enjoyed the area, food, and the patio+ They offer salads for breakfast which we had never heard of, but for those clean eaters or dieters it was a delicious touch! Had dinner here recently and the food was amazing. Filet mignon cooked exactly as ordered, along with baked potato and some mixed vegetables that were cooked to perfection. The ambience was great and the staff were on top of everything all evening. We were even treated to a complimentary dessert, a rich decadent chocolate cake made with local beets and baked by the owner herself. Ate there for breakfast today and it was wonderful. Excellent service and an even better breakfast. I had the Eggs Victoria which was a version of Eggs Benedict but instead of ham, it was smoked salmon, spinach, English muffin, hollandaise, capers, dill and chopped onion. Served with greens and home fries. (I asked for half of each option when you order your side). This was fabulous! The greens were varied and had a lovely light dressing. My friend had pancakes and they were a very generous portion and she said they were delicious. Coffee was bottomless and oh, so good (rich, dark and hot). Although the staff was very pleasant, The dining was a disappointment. I ordered the sole, which was swimming in butter and almost indigestible, although it was a huge portion. My husband had duck, which she said was tough. The wine was good though! And the view seems to be rather nice.And we are not overly picky eaters. Four of us went to dinner on a Monday night, only a couple tables with customers. We reserved a table and they saved us a nice spot next to the fireplace and the service was excellent! We had a pickerel dinner, a maple salmon, a jerk chicken and a hamburger. Everyone was pleased! This restaurant knows how to cook a piece of meat! I wrote this review over on their facebook page, and was met with a classy response. Here is my original review: "I went in over the labour day weekend for the first time, and as a customer it is disheartening to hear your waitstaff complain about the scheduling and the management so openly. It leaves an unprofessional taste in my mouth, which frankly tasted better than the astronomically priced food I received. As for a restaurant that seems to pride themselves on the 'fine dining' experience it was a little ironic that the owner let her dog run through the establishment with no supervision. I sat in the booth nearest the front windows and was a little disgusted by how dirty the windows actually were. When I brought this to the attention of the waitress she mentioned that some other guests had felt the same way. Its nice to see that customer complaints are being adressed at super sonic speed. Originally I was excited to try this place out, as i love supporting local belleville businesses, but the lack of 'fine dining' in a guaranteed 'fine dining' experience was severely disappointing. But on the other hand, you guys are doing a fantastic job trying to run yourselves out of business. I have read the response to the other negative reviews and I highly doubt that my concerns will be met without a sarcastic reply. So, if you have nothing constructive to reply to this with, then please do not. 'Fine Dining'" here is the first response from the owner, who ignored any point I made and just decided to go off on a tangent about nature and chipmunks. "Really Yasmine???? Dog running through the restaurant unsupervised??? Surely you can do better than that. This never happened and you know it as well as all my regular great guests and staff. NEVER. However, we are very dog friendly at Birdy's and encourage our guests to bring their dogs as there is a large dog walking path just nearby in the back and we provide water bowls out back and tie up areas so people can sit on the patio and keep their dog nearby in the shade with fresh water. YES, we are dog friendly at Birdy's. In fact, we are animal friendly and have a large group of wild life that actually live on the surrounding property, including a family of swans, chipmunks, groundhogs, wild birds, squirrels, raccoons and much more that we are happy to share our property with. Animal haters need not come." Obviously she wasn't done trying to shame clients into speaking their mind so she followed up with this classy, professional second comment: "As far as your other pathetic comments go, I am not even going to reply to as they are all just as pathetic as your first comments. I suggest you find somewhere else to fine dine and don't forget to be a little casual about it and not take yourself and your selfies so seriously - life is too short :) Enjoy" The restaurant is as classy on the outside as the owner is on the inside. p.s. the dog's name was Emma.
