I typically avoid chain restaurants because I feel they strive solely for mediocrity in terms of service, food, and ambiance as they try to offer an experience that's acceptable to everyone no matter their preferences and to provide a consistently predictable experience no matter which location you're visiting. Montana's BBQ & Bar in Belleville was a pleasant exception. The restaurant really differentiated itself when I recently visited for dinner with a large group of almost 30 folks from the US and Canada with service, food, and an ambiance that greatly exceeded my expectations. Although we'd forgotten to call ahead of our arrival to make a reservation, the hosts were happy to accommodate our entire group in the cozy "corral" in the center of the restaurant as soon as the diners seated there had finished their meals. In case it's not obvious from the name, Montana's specializes in barbecued chicken, beef and pork. My Canadian Beef Brisket sandwich (C$20), topped with BBQ sauce and crispy fried onions and served on a toasted bun next to a pile of seasoned french fries, was exactly what I was craving after a long day at Shannonville Motorsports Park. Everyone in our group commented that their food and drinks were very tasty and the portion sizes were very filling. Service was fantastic despite the challenges created by catering to such a large group, with our server going above and beyond by making sure our food came out exactly as we'd requested and keeping everyone's beverages and all-you-can-eat rib platters topped off. I was exceptionally impressed that he maintained separate checks for everyone so we didn't encounter that awkward moment at the end of the meal when folks are faced with splitting a complicated tab with a variety of drinks, appetizers, entrees, and desserts. Will definitely be back next time I'm in the area. This restaurant is a chain that specializes in grilled food, chicken, beef and pork dishes, it has a full service bar also. The menu is American. (Comfort Food). Steakhouse,is a good description, it has a lot of space for seating, the bar, booths, high back seats and TV's throughout, there isnt a bad seat in the place. I ordered the 6 bone pork babyback ribs, and a side of shrimp skewers. There are several sauces to choose from, ranging from spicy to sweet. The staff is pretty cool and friendly and helpful! The wait was not long at all,(I ate at 3:30) at dinnertime, the wait might be a little longer. I also had the skillet baked chocolate chip cookie with ice cream for dessert. Despite of bad critic regarding service, decided to go on a monday night. Restaurant not that crowed. Good looking, interesting thematic. Patio was warm, clean and Nice. Have a good margarita pitcher, will taste it next time. Had a cheese and spinatch dip as starter. OMG thats is good and worth the 10$ easy. After had chicken burger and chicken with scewer. Was good. I've had 2 bad experiences here in 5 years (lousy wings the first time, and a horrible wait followed by an order screwed up twice in a row). The last time the manager was very apologetic and gave out vouchers to compensate - the only right response in my books, and it worked, I did come back. Since then I have not had a problem and have found the food decent. I've sampled wraps, burgers, pot roast soup (VERY good I think), chicken sandwich and the kids meals. All in all I find the food consistently good (not 4 or 5 star good), service fast and accommodating. I wouldn't run here full of hope for a great anniversary dinner and it's not what I would call cheap. However for a meal with a couple friends or for a half decent lunch during the day it's OK. Their lunch specials are actually a bit better deal and show up very fast. Give it a shot at lunch if you're leery, and form your own opinion. read more

It was a little less good then what I expected, service good, but a little too rough, I felt like the police was serving us. The food was good, but disappointed that there's no rice with the ribs. It's a quiet night in Belleville and there's not much to choose from on a Sunday night. Just about everything but the franchises are closed. I am not familiar with Mountain's but it looked promising as it had this north woods log cabin look and seemed like a place I could get a nice cold beer. I go inside and the place is dark and north woodsy looking. You have a choice of sitting outside (it was a pretty nice night out), sitting inside or sitting by the bar. Bar was empty and it took a while for me to get someones attention. Once a bartender settled in, the service was fine. I ordered a couple of Molson Canadians and they were served in frosty pint glasses. The beer was smooth and went down nice and easy. I looked through the menu and the food options are basic bar food. Steaks, ribs, burgers, chicken, fried appetizers, etc. I ordered the Buffalo Burger with fries. The sandwich came around within 20 minutes and was a bit on the small side but still good. Bar itself was basic sports bar with televisions everywhere and the sound of people having fun in the background. Price for three pints of Molson and burger was 38 bucks, not counting tip. Kind of a bit steep so if anything, the price would keep me from coming back. read more

I had a gift card from friends to go to this place. I took my family there in hope of a good meal. The place was full and I thought this was going to be great. I ordered 12 hour cooked brisket with side beans, garlic mash and corn bread. This has to be the worst thing I've tasted in years. If I wanted microwave food I would go to the local grocery store. This is not a restaurant, but a manicured slow food dump. How dare does a chain this size offer such lies to people. What a shame. read more

My favourites are the veggie burger and the mac n cheese (always my go-to's). If you like meat, however, there are a lot of things on the menu for you, everything really. The restaurant itself was fair, the staff were nice. Wait times can sometimes be long, whether for a table or for your food. You can sit in either the restaurant area or the bar. THIRD UPDATE; Will NEVER be back. Decided to give it one last try, decided to go at a completely different time than normal in hopes this would help. It did not. In fact, it made me feel worse. We were a table of 2, given a buzzer and told 15 minutes, no others waiting. Another table of 2 comes in, gets the buzzer, is told 15 minutes. Next a table of 5 or 6 comes in, given buzzer, told "soon". My spouse and I took turns going to,the washroom while we waited, and before he could get back suddenly both other tables are being seated... I wait, thinking there is an explanation... The manager cane over and spoke to the hostess and left, without acknowledging me. The hostess then turned to the waitress near her and said "oops, I made a mistake, it was supposed to be that table." *pointing to what I can assume was our name on the page* And then they move on to wiping menus and chatting. Seriously?! Is everyone going to stand in front of me discussing how you just made an error affecting me, and NO ONE is going to utter an actual word to me?! A sincere apology would have probably been enough for me to let it slide, but when my spouse returned from the restroom we returned the pager (of course without even an acknowledgement from staff) and left. read more

We arrived at approx. 7:30 last Saturday evening. After an approx. 20 minute wait we were seated. Our server asked us if we had been told that there were NO ribs left! A restaurant that specializes in ribs with over half of their menu items involving ribs--being told after a 20 min. wait--no ribs!! We should have taken that as a clue to leave immediately but no we foolishly tried to find something on the menu. When questioning the server and so-called female manager on duty, we were given numerous feeble excuses why they had no ribs! The most ridiculous was that they didn't want any leftover ribs. So let's inconvenience the customer by not cooking enough so that they don't have any left overs!! We were then told that there might be a couple of ribs that didn't get served to the All-you-can eat customers if we hurried our order. So 2 of us ask if they could serve the combination plate which looked very appetizing on the menu--a couple of ribs, sausage, sliced brisket and a pulled pork slider. The response was yes. So 2 of us ordered that! Well you should see what we got! It was the most disgusting, inedible plate of garbage! How anyone could have the nerve to bring these two plates to a table is unfathomable! I thought there was a small dish of mushrooms on the plate. After closer look, it appeared to be some type of grey fatty disgusting looking brisket! Showing a picture of this to a relative, he thought it was a dead bat in the bowl!! The pulled pork was dry as straw! It looked and felt like it had been microwaved into oblivion. Totally inedible!! The 2 ribs were a shameful excuse for ribs! The cauliflower was totally raw! No attempt to cook it whatsoever--cold! After specifically asking to speak to one of the 2 male managers on duty, we were presented again with the incompetent female so-called manager. Her classic line, was --she was 10 times more sorry about this situation than we were and that they were just doing their best! Well heaven help this restaurant if this is their best!! Her other line to us was that this is their livelihood! Well if they keep serving this slop, their livelihood is going to be in jeopardy! Lovely waitress but slow, slow, slow. Menu had some kind of reduced selection.... Oh and my little girl got food poisoning from some "cold" burgers from the kids menu. This is probably the fifth or sixth bad experience that we've had here and we are well and truly done with it now. read more
