If you're looking for a classic summer experience, Rudy's Drive-In in Oswego is worth the stop…read more This old-school, à la carte drive-in sits right on the shores of Lake Ontario, and the setting alone makes it special. The lake views are beautiful, peaceful, and the perfect backdrop for a casual meal. One unique touch I loved was that they provide paper bags to cover your food when you're eating outside, a clever way to keep the seagulls from swooping down and stealing your meal! Inside, it's exactly what you'd expect from a traditional drive-in. The staff was friendly, efficient, and kept the line moving quickly. Plenty of parking with some space across the street too. Cleanish restrooms. One thing to know if you have food allergies, specifically a shellfish allergy, and they use shared fryers, so I couldn't safely order anything fried. I really appreciated their honesty and transparency. Between the friendly service, gorgeous waterfront location, and nostalgic atmosphere, Rudy's is a classic place that's easy to recommend.

After 80 years on the shore of Lake…read moreOntario, Rudy's carries a lot of lore opened by Rudy Gadziala and his wife Marie in 1946, now run by third-generation owner Jason Livesey, famous for its Texas hot sauce and the founder's old line about owning a "million dollar hot dog stand." Online reviews are all over the map, so we wanted to see for ourselves. We visited recently with our 7- and 8-year-old nephews, hoping to soak up the tradition. The reality was more transactional. The hostess took our order while sipping her own beverage likely why we were shorted an order of fries. Nice enough, but not especially professional or welcoming. The whole operation moves fast; the staff is determined and task-focused rather than friendly. You get a buzzer and wait. The interior was renovated in 2025, and it shows but not in a good way. The bright white walls and green banquettes feel sterile, more fast-casual chain than 80-year-old lakeside institution. In modernizing, they stripped out whatever nostalgia the old space had and put nothing back. Some local artwork, vintage photos, or lake history on those fresh white walls would go a long way. The food: the boys enjoyed their cheeseburgers, and the fries are genuinely good. The fish sandwich was generously sized but bland the batter had little flavor, and the tartar sauce didn't rescue it. For a place with an 80-year reputation built on fish, I expected more. The lobster mac and cheese left a lot to be desired. The tab: four drinks, two cheeseburgers with fries, lobster mac, and a fish sandwich with fries came to nearly $70 steep for a lakeside stand where fries alone run $5.25. The setting is lovely and the legacy is real. But sometimes generational ownership slips down a slick slope and making money starts to matter more than making memories.

So we pulled up and ordered the chili, and while we were at it, hubby surprised me with a smoked meat sandwich. This was a big beef day for us! The smoked meat was served with mustard on rye bread. The sandwich was overloaded with delicious meat! It was great!! We shared half and half. The chili came with plain white hot dog buns as a side (yuck!), and on top of the chili was a thick layer of chunks of cheese (yum!!). The chili was thick and rich, tasty at first, but I've got to say it was too spicy for me; I couldn't finish it all! The last thing I want to mention is how the drive through works: you order at one of those boards with a menu on it, and a speaker & microphone in it. Then you pull through to a window to pay. Lastly, you pull up to another window to pick up your order. This is all built on a slight incline, do the server has to lift the food over their head to give it to you.

Service was pretty attentive and our waitress was phenomenal and really upbeat and sweet. They were on it with the refills too. I really thought the kids would love their food, but they just picked at it during the dinner. What kid says no to waffle fries and a hot dog? Apparently the hot dog looked to juicy? lol. My french fry loving son, had no issues with his fries but skipped the chicken nuggets. My poor husband had to polish off whatever was not eaten by our kids after he ate his burger and poutine. I had the plantbased burger and I had no complaints. I will say their pickles are really great on the burger and loved their house sauce that came on it as well. Their fries are on the meatier side and I only ate a couple and passed the rest on to the kids, since the burger was pretty filling on its own. They had toy story playing on the tv in the restaurant. Super cute. It was pretty pricey coming to around $100 after everything was paid out. I'd probably come back for some apps and small bites in the future when visiting in town.

Music is noticeable but not overpowering, supplementing the many conversations going on around us. Wait staff were on the ball and just generally really nice people! Lots of mix and match burger options, including chicken and vegan proteins. You select your burger, protein, type of bun including gluten free, and any customizations. The waitress pointed out one element on the burger I wanted on a GF bun would have gluten and suggested removing it, which I appreciated. Lots of drink options too. This is, overall, a 'something for everyone' experience.

There's lots of space and corners to nestle in to with your wine, as well as games for both adults and children alike. They do picnics as well (think charcuterie, bread, pickles & jam) that you can take on to the property and find yourself a sweet spot to have lunch or an afternoon snack. We were able to sample all of the whites and reds on offer by getting two flights and I can say that nothing disappointed. The Pinot Gris stood out for me as my favourite white - crisp and fruity. The reds were great as well - Gamay Noir was a standout for me, as well as the Gamay Pinot. That one only comes in 1.5 litre bottles, so it's a bit of a commitment. I liked this place so much that I bought into their Wine of the Month club. $300 for 12 bottles that come straight to my door - Yes please! We'll definitely be back next year to see what's on offer and get a tour of the vineyard as well.

All wood, vaulted ceilings, and a huge stone fireplace. We did a tasting at our table and enjoyed it with items from the menu. Lots of parking. Recommend reservations on the weekends!
