Come here when you're craving birria tacos! It's located inside a food court, take out only style spot with other food vendors in the establishment. Located in Kensington Market of downtown Toronto. Was craving for some birria tacos and found myself here since I was already in the area. Getting the birria tacos of course comes with the best part of the consume, which I usually drink as soup. We got four birria tacos and it came with a bunch of limes and salsa verde as well. The tacos could've had more of a crunchy exterior to it but overall it was so good dipped in the consume. The spot inside when ordering does get smokey and smells like oil frying up some delicious foods, not just from this one stall itself. So don't be surprised if you come out with your clothes and hair smelling like oily foods. Overall, a great spot to check out if you're in the area and want to go for a food adventure!
Birria Catrina had some tasty tacos but they couldn't have been better, the service was perfect which had me a little sad that the consome didn't do the Birria tacos justice. However, a great spot, would definitely go back because I did enjoy them but being from Chicago, I've had much better lol. I had heard about this place on a few lists of great birria tacos. My partner and I were strolling around kennsington and decided to stop by. It's basically fast food, and it's take out only. Everything is also birria related, which was perfectly fine with me. Their portions were really big and great prices. Very filling and leftovers to take home. I love that the consome isn't too spicy. I tried the pizzadilla. It was really good, but they use flour tortillas. Some of the cheese inside wasn't melted, but it was still good. I've now learned that I prefer corn tortillas with birria. I had wanted to try the pizzadilla for awhile, so I'm glad I had it. I can't wait to try the birria ramen next.
These were good! I was surprised that they didn't have cheese on it when we first ordered them. We had to give them back and were charged more to add the cheese. Another downfall was that the tacos were already made on the stove. The service was quick of course because of that. They were sitting there and I'm not sure for how long. The shell was a little stale though. But at the end of it all the birria was decent. The grilled onions on the side was a nice touch. The restaurant in in the middle of Kensington Market within a space that has other restaurants as well so it gets pretty crowded in there. Not really much space so we took our tacos to go.
The best birria tacos and Ramen I've ever had. Augusta street has a lot of food. There's so many options. This Mexican spot caught our eye because people were ordering the Ramen. So glad we stopped. It's so flavorful and you don't get tired of it like some Birria that is too strong. It had beef inside. Tacos were amazing too
Came here to give the birria tacos a try to see the hype. We ordered Combo 1 for 3 people to share. The wait was 20mins, no problem - just explore the market. The combo comes with 3 tacos, 2 quesadilla and a drink. Presentation looks amazing and we liked the crunchy shells! The quesadilla tasted better with the cheese toppings. However all the tacos meat itself lacked flavour. I would say this was a good try, but it feels overhyped to me.
Went to Kensington market in search for a new Mexican taco restaurant to try. I tried birria tacos when i went to Montreal but was a bit disappointed. This food counter was in a mini food court with most of them selling tacos. I heard many good things about this place and decided to give it a try. We ordered the $22 combo which included 3 large tacos loaded birria beef and the taco shells were grilled on the flat grill. The quesadillas were stuffed with birria beef and queso and grilled to perfection. It was served with consome broth which was rich and flavourful. Every dip of the taco and quesadilla was a delicious symphony in my mouth. Great food and friendly service. Give them a try when you are craving for a unique Mexican street food.
Birria Catrina is located in Kensington Market in a small food court that serves Latin American eats. It is a small food stall all the way to the back of the space. I had heard about birria tacos and it's increasing popularity in the city and had wanted to try them. Specializing in birria tacos (using beef), Birria Catrina, is a family owned small business serving such tacos, which originated from the Mexican state of Jalisco. I ordered through a food app for pick up at the food stall to avoid waiting. I opted for the combo #2 (5 tacos, consume, and a can of pop). My order was made in a reasonable amount of time and was ready for me when I went to pick it up. Food wise, the tacos were delicious! The taco shells weren't crispy anymore since I had to get takeout and bring home to eat due to the weather and current pandemic restrictions. However, even with non crispy taco shells, the mixture of the meat with the condiments and the consume worked well together and was definitely a flavour explosion on the tastebuds. I'm still thinking about the tacos as I type this! My partner also enjoyed the birria tacos and even asked me to get some for him next time. Definitely a new way for me to eat tacos but love the consume and everything about this place. Do go check them out if you have the chance!
I was seeing birria tacos all over social media, so upon a quick search on Yelp, found this place and decided to give it a try. We went for pick up, and realized this is located inside a small food hall at Kensington market. I was a bit horrified at how many people were cramped inside the space even during COVID lockdown...felt like I was risking my life for food. I would highly recommend just getting delivery. Anyways, decided to order combo #1 which comes with 3 tacos and 2 quesadillas. They are pretty much the same thing except the quesadillas comes with cheese (which I think could use more of). The tacos are filled with tender beef slow-cooked in a rich stew with the corn tortilla fried until crispy. It also comes with a small container of broth which you are supposed to dip in. I thought it wasn't going to be enough so I ordered a medium bowl of broth ($4) as well, which was actually totally unnecessary. Unless u want to save it for later or drink it straight. The flavours were bold, and surprisingly the tacos didn't get soggy even after I dip it in the broth. The taco size is actually pretty decent. The combo can feed 2 people who aren't big eaters. So here is what I will say, now that I've been to multiple Mexican spots with birria, these guys don't pack the tacos as much, however, they have been the most flavourful beef to me based on everyone else's. The consome was good, but the best, but again that beef was amazing! Real filling tacos and worth the visit. There is about 20 seats in there and the food came out fast! It was great service. It felt like I stepped into little Mexico in there with the decorations and music videos in the background, it's a great vibe in there. read more

This was on my list of things to try at Kensington market. This place knows how to make tacos, they give a decent size and you can share it with three people, the consume taste really fresh with the lime and cilantro. The service was really quick, and you have to dip the tacos in the consume and hot sauce perfect combination especially with the onions and cilantro, I can see why this place has such a big line up. I want to try the birria ramen next time, this place is a must try also when you go to Kensington market. The tortilla is really good but now I think I can make this at home l, it is pricey but if you want to try birria tacos I would recommend this place . read more

Hands down, the BEST birria spot in Toronto. The meat is soo tender & juicy. I always get quesadilla because I like cheese as well. Parking is a little hard to find in Kensington, but it's SO worth it. read more

Best birria tacos ever had! It has been hard finding authentic mexican food but this location hit the spot. Their birria was soft and had a lot of flavor. Had to share this combo since it had 2 queso birria and 3 birria tacos. Definitely recommend! read more

took my friend here for her first birria tacos and she loved it. keep in mind there's no seating and it's take out only. we waited about 5 or so minutes for everything to come out. super friendly service as well! interior kinda reminds me of a nyc deli read more

Hidden in the back of a take-out only food court in the heart of Kensington Market is Toronto's first and only birria specialized restaurant. Birria Catrina has a sit-down Roncesvalles location, but my friend and I opted to grab a combo to go eat in the car (come prepared with napkins ). What we ordered: - Combo 1 (3 Tacos, 2 Quesadillas, small consommé, Can of pop) Final Thoughts: Honestly, I had higher expectations because Birria is what they do yet I found our tacos a bit bland. There also didn't seem to be much filling and a whole lot of tortilla. With no seating around and a 30-minute wait time for our combo, it was a bit of a let down and I've had definitely had better elsewhere. read more
Firstly, I ordered the combo with quesadilla ($2 more than the other combo) but got the other combo instead. I already left so I couldn't go back to fix the order. Secondly, I was disappointed that it lacked in flavours, it was so bland with no spices. The taco itself and the beef stew. IlThe hot sauce isn't as spicy as I thought it would be. It's tucked away deep in the recesses of the "lot", amongst other amazing looking spots. It's hot and steamy back there - but the uncomfortable wait will be worth it. No frills, just straight up birria goodness. We got combo 1, which comes with 2 quesadillas and 3 birria tacos. THEY DO NOT SKIMP ON THE MEAT. Be prepared for some fantastic meat, delicious and flavourful consommée, and a tangy salsa. Get lots of napkins, it's going to be messy. read more

What we ordered :- Beef Birria Tacos: Tender Juicy Birria on slightly crispy tortillas topped up with onions and cilantro. Pizzadilla : Birria with cheese mounted between two soft tortillas. There's actually a few places in Kensington Market downtown Toronto you can get Tacos, but as far as I know this is the only one with Birria Tacos! For those unaware, Birria Tacos are sweet, sour, spicy and savory Mexican beef stew Tacos that are slow cooked and deeped back into the stew! They also have a bunch of other dishes like the "Pizza-Dilla" - basically a giant quesadilla stuffed with Birria meat! The only reason its not 5/5 is because the dual layer taco shells can be a bit soggy if not eaten right away. read more
Authentic Birria Tacos have finally made their way to Toronto. In a small taco stand right in the heart of Kensington Market. I have been here a few times and each time it gets better. The tacos are great! The beef is NOT fatty which is super important for me. The consommé is delicious with fresh onions in there for an added crunch. I love tipping the crispy crunchy tacos in the consommé. The next thing I would recommend is the Pizzadilla or Quesadilla. I love these two because they're loaded with cheese and cooked in the consommé, for more added flavour. Topping everything with fresh limes and their signature hot sauce! My wife and I tried the Gringas tacos which is the Birria tacos with cheese. Really delicious, we were full from trying tacos from different restaurants in Kensington market. I'd definitely come back to get tacos here during my next visit to Kensington market. The quality of the Birria taco is top notch. Friendly staff. I recommend you come try the tacos here. read more
Birria tacos seem to me the new craze and if everyone does it like Birria Catrina does, I can see why! The crispy taco shellls contrasted perfectly with the soft pull-apart beef inside. The consommé was bursting with so much flavour that we were tempted to drink it straight up, but we had to save it to dip our delicious tacos inside! Birria Catrina is buried inside the heart of Kensington market, in the same space as Pancho's Bakery, Pico de Gallo and more. With that being said, it is a small space. Right now they are limiting it to 5 customers at a time inside - not for each, but for all businesses in the space. With that being said, there is definitely a line to go in, and you may have to go back outside to wait for your food. 8/10 would eat again! read more
My friends and I are obsessed with tacos and so we decided to check this place out. First impression is that the tacos were very meaty. Having said that, the meat was kind of dry even when dipped in consomé. However, the seasoning was amazing - both tacos and consomé. I also really liked the salsa! :) Tip: the restaurant is located inside a very small and crowded food court so definitely order through their website in advance. read more

After having watched YouTube videos for quite some time on birria tacos, I've been hoping to see what all the hype was about and what made these different than your average taco. Birria Catrina, located in the complex in Kensington Market with many other Latin American staples housed Birria Catrina, a small family run stand specializing in these. I'd finally get my chance to try these and I'm happy I finally got to. I got two Birria tacos which come with a small side of consomme which you use to dip the Birria tacos in. The tortilla shell felt thicker than your typical taco and the meat was meatier. This made for a heavier, yet indulgent feel to these tacos (and a slightly messier experience so make sure you have some extra napkins). Service was efficient; you set your order and the order is ready some fifteen or so minutes later, guaranteeing you freshly made Birria tacos. If you're also keen to try Birria tacos, I'd recommend trying them here (plus you get to support a small family business which is always a good thing). read more

We ordet taco birria combo and birria ramen...Hidden germ...the beef stew is soo good juicy and tasty..very friendly and he price is resonable..very recomended. 5 stars read more
Small hidden family owned restaurant in the heart of Kensington market in Toronto. There was a lineup when I got there obviously everyone there wanted to try the tacos. Ordered three tacos although I should've ordered a combo because we finish that way too quick. Very delicious, flavorful, savory. The meet was extremely tender and soft. The soup was flavorful and had a kick of spice. The staff was very kind and friendly. A very small store with limited staff so the wait time was a little longer than expected. But it was worth every minute to try their homemade tacos. I would 100% recommend everyone to come try this family owned taco shop. By their shop there's also other Mexican or Spanish stores Where you can have guacamole and other dishes. read more

After seeing all the TikToks raving about this place, we made the trek to Kensington Market. This was tucked away in the back of a busy food hall. I got two tacos and a quesadilla, and my friend got their pizza. Everything was made to order and the food was very flavourful. Our food took around 10 minutes to prepare. It was a great value and satisfied our craving. However, it was difficult to find seating nearby. The quesadilla was a little oily, the food was messy to eat but overall worth the trek!! read more

Amazing birria tacos! We drove 30 minutes to get these and it was SO worth the drive. The tacos were so delicious and extremely filling! AND, the price is right! The combo is such a great deal and is enough for 2 people. Run by a duo who are extremely nice! Please go and support this small business! read more
