Fish taco, black tiger shrimp, and beef!
    Brittany I.

Honestly, been looking for a good taco joint, and stumbled across this Annex food hall joint, where I was pleasantly surprised by these cute little flavourful tacos!!! I would highly recommend visiting this joint as they do have quality tacos, 3 for $13 special or $4 a taco. I got the fish taco, black tiger shrimp taco and beef taco, and each one got an amazing unique taste to them. They did not cheap out on toppings or fillings, as they were fully loaded. Every bite was great. The fish taco is crispy, topped with a Mayo like sauce, and the crunch!! Yum!!! The black tiger shrimps were big, flavourful juicy, and the crunchy toppings perfectly complimented the sauce. Last I tried the beef taco and it was exactly the savoury I was looking for. Tender, easy to eat beef. Yummy!!! Would recommend this place for you all to try! Hidden little taco gem!

Have you ever had super high hopes for something but when it came down to it, it wasn't anything you expected? I'm sure everyone can relate their tinder stories but.. This unfortunately was the case for El Nahual Tacos. Don't get me wrong, food was decent but was average at best. Starting at $4.95 for a taco; it's quite pricey for something you can finish in one to two bites. I ordered the barbacoa, carnitas & the al pastor tacos - which should be the holy trinity in any authentic Mexican spot. The Al Pastor was overly salty and dry and needed to be soaked in the salsa for it to be decent. Next was the carnitas and it wasn't much better. The meat seemed dehydrated in texture and resembled pork floss (shout-out if you know what that is). The Barbacoa was what really saved the day as it was juicy and flavourful. Some improvement points to consider would definitively include providing napkins to each order. Nothings worse than having nothing to wipe your hands on when you got salsa running down your arm. It was also awkward when the manager came in to scold at his staff, probably is a better idea to give feedback in private. Overall, it's a decent place but personally won't be back.

Ambiance: Part of the Annex Food Hall. There are a handful of kiosks that serve food and a one beer stand. I came during COVID so was not able to see exactly how many seats there are, but it looked like cocktail tables for dinning in. Meant more for takeout or a quick lunch. Food (5 stars): Black Tiger Shrimp Taco: (5 stars): One of the best tacos I had, they did not skimp out on shrimp. Chicken burrito: (4 stars) The chicken was shredded and did texture was not great, too soft and mashed. The rest of it was pretty good. Barbacoa Tacos: (4.5 stars) Very tasty, but not as good as black tiger shrimp. Jarritos Drink (mango): 4 stars - similar to Fanta, overall tasty but has a fake feel to it. "Natural Flavour Soda with Real Sugar" -- horrible slogan. Disclaimer: I got the black tiger shrimp and the drink for free as part of a promotion.

I visited here for a Yelp Elite event for choice of one taco and chips & salsa. I also ordered a second taco. They were priced at $4.95 per taco ($5.59 after taxes), which I thought was not worth the money for the small portion and quality in comparison to other places. I ordered the al pastor and carnita which I thought wasn't too bad - decent but it was a bit dry, both the meat and tortilla so I had to dunk it into the sauce they provided to help with the dryness. I did enjoy the pineapple but the other taco with pickled carrots was a no for me. The flavours did not work well. However, I got to say the chips were pretty good, I enjoyed that the most. But unfortunately the salsa they provided was not...it tasted like watered down salsa with hint of onion and cilantro. The staff were very friendly and served me very quickly. If I were to revisit I would try out their shrimp tacos and maybe their quesadillas, as I heard it was good from reviews. But not sure if I will reorder their carnita and al pastor again since other places make them better.

This is the exterior of the restaurant. Don't be fooled, tacos are inside.

We ordered tacos from here tonight and there were many pros and cons. THE SERVICE: I'm sorry to say the service was terrible. We were waiting patiently and the employees kept writing down their online orders and were completely ignoring walk-in customers. We waited over 30 minutes to place the order and another 30 minutes for our tacos. While waiting for our tacos to be prepared, another employee showed up and he started preparing food without wearing a mask. This made me very uncomfortable. I asked if he could please wear a mask and he angrily raised his voice and said he doesn't have to. He also proceeded to yell at his colleagues in front of a lot of customers. I found this very unprofessional. THE FOOD: One benefit is they can make their tacos gluten and dairy free if you ask. What did we get? * Shrimp Tacos: The shrimp tacos were delicious. This was my favourite dish on the menu. My version of the taco came without cheese and it had an amazing pepper and cabbage topping. * Pulled Beef Tacos: My boyfriend ordered the pulled beef tacos and he said this was his second favourite taco, right after the shrimp tacos. He said it was very flavourful. Unfortunately, I didn't try this because the employees told me it wouldn't taste good without the dairy add-on. My boyfriend liked the beef more than the chicken taco, which I'll get to soon. * Fish Tacos: The fish taco was ok. I found it pretty bland and I definitely would not order it again. * Chicken Mole Tacos: The chicken taco was my boyfriends and my least favourite taco. I found it mediocre and lacking add-ins, which would have added an additional flavour compound that would have made it better. * Vegetable Taco The vegetable taco was my second favourite taco. It was full of flavour and really good. If they were to add these veggies to a chicken taco, it would be out of this world. Chips and Salsa: The chips and salsa were pretty good. I love tomatillo sauce and we were happy with them. At this restaurant they do not let you pick and choose ingredients to create your own DIY taco. I think that would be a very good add-on to their business but I guess they'll have to do that with time. THE RESTAURANT: The restaurant is located inside the Annex Food Hall. We actually walked by this place because we were looking for the restaurants sign. How Did they manage during covid? I honestly think they let too many people into the space and were not managing the line well at all. I hope they can improve because their tacos were priced well. Would I return? Probably not during covid.

Lovely neighborhood spot for tacos. The restaurant wasn't packed at all. We ordered chips and salsa to start. It came with two different dips and a corn salsa. The corn salsa was my favorite. I wish the dip was a bit spicier. I got the fish taco, tiger shrimp taco and al pastor which is pork. My favorite was the shrimp. So juicy and sweet. The hot sauce that you can ask for on the side is spicy and adds flavor to the tacos. Service was a bit slow as there was only one server. I would come back whenever I crave tacos.

El Nahual Tacos is located in the Annex, which is a food joint/food hall on Bloor Street featuring a bunch of unique Toronto Cuisines. The chef incorporates Mexican flavors from back home with simple garnishes as to not over complicate things and let the ingredients speak for themselves. The flavor combinations are great, and the guac is made fresh every day. A favorite dessert of mine in Filipino Cuisine is Leche Flan, and I thought El Nahual was serving it, but its a Mexican version called Tres Leches Cake which is topped with strawberry jam and just as delicious. If you're not in the mood for tacos, their burritos are just as delicious with similar fresh Mexican ingredients.

Found at the end of the Annex Hall. Well packed for take out. Lots of space for folks to comply to social distancing. Definitely, felt like a safe space.

I wanted to try this place cuz the tacos looked so authentic and they make their own tortillas mad respects for that, the only time when I tried that was when I went to Mexico in tulum and this lady there was making tortillas with their own hands you can tell the food was made with love and these guys are really passionate in what they do, we decided to get three tacos for 13 bucks and a shrimp burrito, we got mole taco, pulled beef and fish taco, the shrimp burrito was one of the best burrito I ever had in my life tasted so fresh with the hot sauce, and the tacos were out of This world with the maxing garnishes and you gotta squeeze that lime don't forget it's makes the taste buds explode with flavour I will definitely come back here, one of the best tacos I had so far, the meat was so tender and so Juicy, I felt like I was in heaven

Thanks Yelp for introducing us to El Nahual Tacos! If it wasn't for this Yelp Elite event, I probably wouldn't have discovered this place. El Nahual Tacos is located in the Annex Food Hall. I haven't had tacos in wayyy too long, so the anticipation to try the tacos here was real. We ordered four tacos: black tiger shrimp, al pastor, pulled beef and fried fish. We also ordered a shrimp quesadilla, salsa and chips, and the 3 leches cake. Tres leches is one of my favourite cakes, so I was pretty stoked to see how theirs measured up. Our favourite was the fried fish taco. It had good flavour and the fish was soft and fresh inside. Second favourite was the pulled beef because of the seasoning. It wasn't dry either! The al pastor and the shrimp tacos were only okay. We thought they were a little bland and put a lot of sauce on them. The shrimp quesadilla was good, but not spectacular. I know every restaurant makes things differently, but the tres leches was not at all as expected. The jam on top just wasn't my jam... Service was okay. Staff were nice, but a little slow as there were only two people taking orders and cooking. Overall enjoyed our meal, but not in a rush to come back.

I had no Idea that this taco place was inside of the annex food hall. I never been inside so it was need to get to see it. Bring a backpack when you come because there is a great place to pick up beer as well. Their menu made it really hard to pick they have so many great options. We ended up getting seven different tacos. Even the tortillas were really good. They came with the green salsa as well to dip. Our favourite tacos were the Carnitas, brisket, the fried fish. Carnitas blows my mind at most taco places and this was no different. The one with the pineapple on top I was really excited about the the pork in it wasn't my fav. Dog the chicken mole wasn't for me either. But there are so many other great ones I'll be back for sure! The shrimp was also wonderful. Perfectly cooked! The ladies behind the counter were also really nice. They also won "top 100 places to eat in CANADA"

Got a tiger shrimp taco & chips & salsa thanks to a Yelp promotion. The taco was extremely wet (there was liquid at the bottom of the box) but the shrimp was very fresh & the taco had tasty bold flavours. The taco came with a brown-orange salsa which was fiery but tasty The chips were very good. While the odd chip was starting to turn stale, most were thin & crispy. They were served with a mild green salsa that didn't taste of much.

Taco kit spread! So much food for such a reasonable price of 20-25$

After hearing so much good things about this taco spot in the Annex Food Hall, I couldn't wait to try their take-home TACO KITS!! How to order: -online through the tacokittoronto.com website for pick-up or delivery -Tuesday DELIVERY IS FREE if you pre-order by the previous Sunday The Taco kits: Each kit is only $20-$25 & easily feeds 1-2 people! I tried their Yucatan chicken & Barbacoa Beef. Each came with their own super fresh chopped up toppings and baggie of corn tortillas. I reheated the meat by microwaving in time intervals and the tortillas were warmed on a stovetop pan with a bit of oil. YUCATAN CHICKEN (4.5/5) - saucey and the complex spices that marinated the juicy chicken was perfection. Paired with pickled radish & cheese made the flavours pop even more. BARBACOA BEEF (5/5) - THE JUICIEST shreds of flavourful beef. I absolutely loved the freshness that a sprinkle of onions, cilantro & lime did to it. And I can't forget about that creamy avocado spread! Overall: I'm honestly so surprised at how generous they were with their ingredients and the amazingly JUICY & FLAVOUR-PACKED meats. These taco kits are easy, fresh, and a fun way to do take-out. Definitely recommend giving El Nahual a try for your next Taco Tuesday!

The place is a bit small so it can be a bit tight so I would highly recommend having reservations if you have a large group. Tacos: The soft and the crispy tacos were both delicious. Parking was a challenge, but there is a Green P that is about 5-8 minutes away that isn't too bad if the weather is good. The atmosphere is quite intimate and I did find myself bumping into other people / staff when going to and from the washroom, etc. The food was pretty good - the tacos were full of flavour and I got to try a variety by sharing with the group. I think my favourite was the beef barbacoa. The prices are definitely a bit up there for a Mexican restaurant, I believe the tacos were around $7 each. The quality made it worth it, but there's definitely other places in Toronto that serve up a great taco for nearly half the price. We also tried a couple of appetizers, including the nachos, guac and ceviche. The nachos were something special - it was a bit of a nacho pizza. I didn't expect that from Playa Cabana, given everything else was very authentic. The taste was good, but it was a bit of a challenge to share! The highlight of the night was definitely the desserts - we ordered the tres leches cake, and the churros. Definitely the best churro I've ever had.

We got lucky and they were able to squeeze us into seats at the bar area, which ended up being the best possible spot because we had a front-row view of the live fire cooking the entire night. The ambiance was lively and hip, with a great energy that made the whole experience feel exciting. This was my first time watching each main courses get cooked over live fire in real time, which added to our amazement given that all the dishes came out cooked to the right doneness. Every bite of meat and seafood was perfectly kissed with flame -- the char, the subtle smoke, the texture. Beyond the fire element, you can really taste how fresh everything is. Nothing felt heavy or muddled. Each dish was well thought out with balanced flavors, but the ingredients and that fire/smoke magic were always the main event. Service was also superb. All the staff were attentive and high-energy. Different servers checked up on us throughout the meal, our water was always kept full, and dishes were cleared in a timely manner. Only drawback: the heat. Sitting by the fire is incredible for the show, but it definitely started to feel like a sauna at times. Still, I'd do it again and choose to sit at the bar without hesitation. If you're in Toronto and you love a tasting menu, this is a must.
