Tender and juicy fish with a lightly crisp exterior. Sauce on top paired phenomenally to add an immense creaminess that I think avocado could do as well. Tomatoes created a contrast through a sour tang, which helped emphasize the rest of the taco. Carnitas Taco - a pretty basic taco. Nothing special to note but I would rather buy cheaper tacos if I wanted this experience. The carnitas is not specially cooked, tasted like any other slow cooked pork. A Toronto crowd favourite spot for tacos. When you're in the Kensington Market area, you can't not stop by at Seven Lives, as it's a Toronto staple. Over the years they've moved to a larger space across the street of where they use to be located. The space has ample standing tables, fans, and a bigger space in general for the amount of people that come get tacos here. Their prices have increased quite a bit over the years, as did everything else in this economy now a days. I always opt for their gobernador or fish taco. This time I got their gobernador which is a taco that comes with smoked tuna, grilled shrimps and topped with ooey gooey cheese. You can add your own salsa on the side, they have mild, medium and hot. The gobernador is always a great hit and so tasty - also what they're known for. So definitely give this one a try. It's quick service/ quick meal, so you're in and out of the taco shop pretty quickly. Every Toronto tourists definitely comes here when they're in town. read more

Finally been back since they moved across the street to their current location. Love how there's more dining room. We went on a weekday right at opening and there was already a short line but it moved fast. We waited maybe 10 minutes for our food. My friend and I each got two (baja fish and gobernador shrimp). The portions are still very big and each taco comes with two tortillas. The prices went up slightly though. We really liked how crispy the fish was but our favourite is still the gobernador. Seven lives is very nostalgic to me. I've been going since its conception in 2012 when I was a very broke student. Back then, these tacos felt like a splurge, but oh so worth it. There's not a lot of room inside - for sitting there's probably space for 4-6 max. If you happen to grab a space to put down your food, you're probably going to stand. If there's good weather, you can indulge outside. The limited space makes it feel cozy in a way. I fondly recall busy nights standing in a corner with a group of friends bonding over tacos. I've tried all their tacos but my fave by far is the gobernador - smoked blue marlin, grilled shrimp, cheese, crema with pickled onions. A close second is the Baja fish - battered and fried fish, cabbage, Baja sauce, and pico de gallo. The tacos come with its own set of toppings but you can top with salsa with your preference of heat - the mild and medium are my usual. Their spiciest is truly spicy so keep that in mind! My brave friend loves spice and although she could handle it, she said it burned away most of the taco taste so that was less enjoyable lol. If it's not clear yet, I LOVE SEVEN LIVES and if you haven't gone, you haven't lived. Seven lives truly deserves its high rating and I hope it stays around forever. read more

We were super stuffed from trying food all day at Kensington Market but wanted to give this taco spot a try after getting a recommendation from a friend. It's hard to give a representative rating since we only tried 1 taco since we were so stuffed, but from what we tried (Gobernador which had smoked tuna, shrimp, and cheese), it was pretty good! The tacos are HUGE, about the size of your hand. You'd probably get full off of 2 or 3 tacos alone for a meal. Just wished they layered the taco with another taco shell since there was so much juice, once I lifted up the taco all the contents were falling out from the bottom and sides. The ingredients were all yummy and I liked how the cheese was still melted by the time it got out to us. The carnitas were a bit dry, visually very grey, and could've used some more toppings & salsa. The gobernador was flavourful and not fishy at all, but I thought the flavour profile was a bit too flat. The shrimp helped balance it out, but I think I just wanted pico de gallo or crema - something to just brighten it up more. - Service: quick - Atmosphere: no seating available, but there's a couple of tall tables/counter space to eat. There are standing tables only, no chairs but it works since people just eat and leave. They also have medium and hot salsa close to the register. I got the gobernador and mushroom & cactus. They're about $7-7.50 CAD or like $5-5.50 USD. They're not terribly expensive like some people say. Portion sizes are huge and they make sure the tacos are filled up. Gobernador has smoked tuna, shrimp, and cheese. It had a lot of flavor and I liked that they didn't skimp on the meat. Mushrooms and cactus were very tasty. Mushrooms were very delicious, I didn't taste much of the cactus. Service was great. It did take a little bit of time to get our food since it was busy. read more

Okay so I think this spot probably deserves 5 starts but I'll have to say 4/4.5 for now because they were sold out of the baja fish tacos when I went :"). I was really looking forward to trying that one specifically since fish tacos are my favorite kind of taco, and this spot seemed to have such good ones. Instead, the cashier recommended me the beef suadero one. It came out relatively fast, and they have a station where you can add the salsas you want. They had a green one that was medium spicy and the red one which was actually quite spicy -- I teared up a little. These tacos are absolutely huge and I would say two of them is around the amount of a very solid meal. It was packed with meat and served on a thin tortilla that surprisingly held up well. The beef was super tender and juicy, and honestly really really good! Probably one of the best beef tacos I've ever had, and also one of the largest. I think I was slightly thrown off by not having the fish tacos that made me not appreciate how good it was in the moment, but I would definitely recommend the beef tacos. If I'm ever back in Toronto I'll have to be back to try the others. read more

My favorite taco joint in Toronto. Cannot believe they have been opening for 10 years already. I still remember I had to be the there right after they open the door to avoid huge line up back in the day. Their taco was revolutionary. It was so good and I felt like someone who never tried Mexican food before should always come to this place first to be instantly fell in love with Mexican food. Even now they maintain taste consistency and it still tastes same as the first year. I went with the Chicken Taco and it was pretty decent. But I reckon, the chicken could have been generously seasoned. Now these are BIG tacos! Two is definitely filling.m enough. A single taco is pretty pricey at $7-$9 however it definitely works out for how big they are. I had the halloumi with cactus and the octopus taco. There was SO much octopus too, I was so surprised! They don't skimp on ingredients and it was my favourite out of the two for sure.
