Delicious tacos of a decent size! If I lived in Toronto I would be coming by often for sure.
Update: I came back and it tastes like the recipes for the tacos changed. They're not quite as good as before but it was slammed and maybe they were having an off day. Still a great taco though!
I believe this spot is known for fish tacos more than regular tacos. From my limited experience, I agree with ordering fish tacos over other options. Baja Fish Taco - fried fish was excellent. Tender and juicy fish with a lightly crisp exterior. Sauce on top paired phenomenally to add an immense creaminess that I think avocado could do as well. Tomatoes created a contrast through a sour tang, which helped emphasize the rest of the taco. Carnitas Taco - a pretty basic taco. Nothing special to note but I would rather buy cheaper tacos if I wanted this experience. The carnitas is not specially cooked, tasted like any other slow cooked pork. I mean if you're here with friends and don't want fish, sure opt for a non-fish taco, but if you eat fish, I'd skip all other options.

A Toronto crowd favourite spot for tacos. When you're in the Kensington Market area, you can't not stop by at Seven Lives, as it's a Toronto staple. Over the years they've moved to a larger space across the street of where they use to be located. The space has ample standing tables, fans, and a bigger space in general for the amount of people that come get tacos here. Their prices have increased quite a bit over the years, as did everything else in this economy now a days. I always opt for their gobernador or fish taco. This time I got their gobernador which is a taco that comes with smoked tuna, grilled shrimps and topped with ooey gooey cheese. You can add your own salsa on the side, they have mild, medium and hot. The gobernador is always a great hit and so tasty - also what they're known for. So definitely give this one a try. It's quick service/ quick meal, so you're in and out of the taco shop pretty quickly. Every Toronto tourists definitely comes here when they're in town.
Always enjoyed the visit! Busy on a Saturday afternoon. Didn't wait very for my order. The tacos were good size for me. I would love t come back and order one of each if I had the stomach capacity to do so! Definitely will return in the future

It was really interesting because the tuna was ground and tasted almost like pork carnitas... but delicious either way. I also ordered a mushroom and nopal taco which came with guac and a halloumi- esque salty fried cheese to be filling, but I could barely finish it. The tortilla chips were freshly cooked and flavorful. Logistics: - indoor seating only - CASH ONLY - limited street parking nearby but transit accessible - filling vegetarian taco option but not sure if tortillas are corn/GF, need to ask
If a cat has nine lives, would you spare one for one of the city's best tacos? Seven Lives is where the locals head to devour flavourful seafood tacos. I ventured here to Kensington Market not long ago to enjoy their famed Baja fish & Gobernador tacos: - Baja Fish Taco included a sizeable battered fish fried to a crisp, complemented with fresh pico de gallo & tangy Baja sauce. This was satisfying and filling that I couldn't stop eating. - Gobernador Taco featured smoked marlin, shrimp & cheese. The cheese melted nicely into the meaty filling. Shrimp added some sweetness & crunch to contrast the smoky fish. I was thankful to have had this meal without much wait at lunch opening. Service was friendly and fast. Plenty of guests packed in shortly after!

The portions are still very big and each taco comes with two tortillas. The prices went up slightly though. We really liked how crispy the fish was but our favourite is still the gobernador. The sauces go very well with the shrimp and meat and although a little bit messy to eat, well worth!
Seven lives is very nostalgic to me. I've been going since its conception in 2012 when I was a very broke student. Back then, these tacos felt like a splurge, but oh so worth it. There's not a lot of room inside - for sitting there's probably space for 4-6 max. If you happen to grab a space to put down your food, you're probably going to stand. If there's good weather, you can indulge outside. The limited space makes it feel cozy in a way. I fondly recall busy nights standing in a corner with a group of friends bonding over tacos. I've tried all their tacos but my fave by far is the gobernador - smoked blue marlin, grilled shrimp, cheese, crema with pickled onions. A close second is the Baja fish - battered and fried fish, cabbage, Baja sauce, and pico de gallo. The tacos come with its own set of toppings but you can top with salsa with your preference of heat - the mild and medium are my usual. Their spiciest is truly spicy so keep that in mind! My brave friend loves spice and although she could handle it, she said it burned away most of the taco taste so that was less enjoyable lol. If it's not clear yet, I LOVE SEVEN LIVES and if you haven't gone, you haven't lived. Seven lives truly deserves its high rating and I hope it stays around forever.

Amazing busy pricey small. But so good! You can stand and eat at the stand up table. The wait time is for only those with patience and know what good quality tastes like.
Gobernador was our favorite. So rich and good. Love the cheese. Baja Fish, camarones a la Diabla, and Guajillo Snapper were all a close second. Their seafood tacos are all incredible. The shrimp and fish are so tender. The sauce is amazing. Their horchatas are also top notch. I've had some pretty mediocre horchatas recently, so I really appreciated their perfect sweetness, perfect consistency, rich horchatas!! There is very little "seating" but there's plenty of standing tables. read more
The best seafood tacos in Toronto. A must visit every time guests are in town. Specifically for the gobenator. Will say, the salsa has gotten less spicy which is a bit saddening but the flavors are all still delicious read more

Absolutely love this spot for Tacos! Their salsa is quite hot so be careful with the serving! I LOVE their shrimp taco - comes packed with flavours and tastes delicious. We were super stuffed from trying food all day at Kensington Market but wanted to give this taco spot a try after getting a recommendation from a friend. It's hard to give a representative rating since we only tried 1 taco since we were so stuffed, but from what we tried (Gobernador which had smoked tuna, shrimp, and cheese), it was pretty good! The tacos are HUGE, about the size of your hand. You'd probably get full off of 2 or 3 tacos alone for a meal. Just wished they layered the taco with another taco shell since there was so much juice, once I lifted up the taco all the contents were falling out from the bottom and sides. The ingredients were all yummy and I liked how the cheese was still melted by the time it got out to us. The only thing is that on a hot day, this spot does not have much AC so it gets very hot inside and the wait time was pretty long for us. read more

You cannot go too wrong with tacos, but this was underwhelming. Expect a long, semi disorganized line to order and then a long, disorganized wait for your food. They were sold out of stuff when we got there at 2:30 pm. Oddly, they sell guacamole but it does not come with chips. What's the point? Standing room only to eat there (no seats) and the tacos were nothing special. I don't get the popularity. read more

Their tacos are inexpensive and overflowing! The cactus (nopales) & mushroom packs intoxicating flavour; the piece of deep-fried basa extends past the tortilla. I've been 3 times in 2 weeks! read more
Amazing tacos in Kensington Market. The service was fast, but does get a bit busy with the lunch crowd so be sure to get there early! The ambiance is fun and lively with music blasting. We ordered the Baja fish and the shrimp Diablo. The Baja fish was refreshing and delicious! The shrimp has a bit of a kick but could do with something crunchy like a slaw to cut the creaminess in my opinion. Tacos are 1 per order and I think 1-2 is perfect! Highly recommend! read more
Overall rating: 4.3/5 It's a shame that it took me years to finally visit this joint, but I'm so glad I did! I was expecting a lot more of a "hole in the wall" type of shop, but it's more spacious than I expected. Let's taco 'bout it (sorry for the pun haha): - Fave tacos were the pollo (chicken) and baja fish. So flavourful, moist, and perfectly balanced with the toppings. Didn't even need to add extra salsa. Baja fish is my standard way of evaluating tacos - this fish was thicc, plump, and perfectly fried with a light batter. The pollo taco was also delicious and practically spilled out of the taco. - Server recommended the carnitas and gobernador (smoked tuna), but I didn't love these as much. The carnitas were a bit dry, visually very grey, and could've used some more toppings & salsa. The gobernador was flavourful and not fishy at all, but I thought the flavour profile was a bit too flat. The shrimp helped balance it out, but I think I just wanted pico de gallo or crema - something to just brighten it up more. - Service: quick - Atmosphere: no seating available, but there's a couple of tall tables/counter space to eat. Can get VERY hectic (so order takeout if you want to eat in more peace). Not the cleanest shop though. Floors were sticky, and because they're so busy, spills/dropped food doesn't get cleaned up that often read more
I was in Toronto visiting and a friend recommended this spot! Oh my goodness, some of the best tacos I've ever had! Huge size, great flavor, reasonable price. I went twice during my time in Toronto and still daydream about these tacos!! The Gubernador is chef's kiss. This place is an absolute must any time I'm back! read more
Located in Kensington Market, there's a reason why this place always has a constant flow of customers walking in. There are standing tables only, no chairs but it works since people just eat and leave. They also have medium and hot salsa close to the register. I got the gobernador and mushroom & cactus. They're about $7-7.50 CAD or like $5-5.50 USD. They're not terribly expensive like some people say. Portion sizes are huge and they make sure the tacos are filled up. Gobernador has smoked tuna, shrimp, and cheese. It had a lot of flavor and I liked that they didn't skimp on the meat. Mushrooms and cactus were very tasty. Mushrooms were very delicious, I didn't taste much of the cactus. Service was great. It did take a little bit of time to get our food since it was busy. read more

Okay so I think this spot probably deserves 5 starts but I'll have to say 4/4.5 for now because they were sold out of the baja fish tacos when I went :"). I was really looking forward to trying that one specifically since fish tacos are my favorite kind of taco, and this spot seemed to have such good ones. Instead, the cashier recommended me the beef suadero one. It came out relatively fast, and they have a station where you can add the salsas you want. They had a green one that was medium spicy and the red one which was actually quite spicy -- I teared up a little. These tacos are absolutely huge and I would say two of them is around the amount of a very solid meal. It was packed with meat and served on a thin tortilla that surprisingly held up well. The beef was super tender and juicy, and honestly really really good! Probably one of the best beef tacos I've ever had, and also one of the largest. I think I was slightly thrown off by not having the fish tacos that made me not appreciate how good it was in the moment, but I would definitely recommend the beef tacos. If I'm ever back in Toronto I'll have to be back to try the others. read more

Seven lives is always packed but on a saturday at 5 pm it was especially so. The wait was about 20 minutes but it is completely worth it. The gobernador has tuna, cheese, and shrimp. Something about it is so delicious! The tuna is not fishy and the flavours go so well. The baja fish was huge and extremely crispy. Fried to perfection. It's topped with a tangy slaw that pairs perfectly. You must try these two when you go! read more
Ordered: Watermelon Lemonade Agua Fresca (~CAD$4) Pollo Asado Taco (~CAD$7): spicy grilled chicken, guacamole, and pico Blackened Cod Taco (~CAD$7): grilled cod fish, cabbage, crema, guacamole, and pico Camarones Diabla Taco (~CAD$7): spicy grilled shrimp and cheese Baja Fish Taco (~CAD$7): fried basa, cabbage, baja sauce, and pico Aya's take: Who knew one of the best tacos I would ever have would be in Toronto!? All the tacos were well-made but the true winner is the Baja Fish Taco. It is a MUST TRY. Crispy, flaky fish, freshness from the cabbage, and balanced with the baja sauce and pico. I could not get enough of it! There are a few tables inside but mostly standing room only. Street (metered) parking available throughout Kensington Market. read more
My favorite taco joint in Toronto. Cannot believe they have been opening for 10 years already. I still remember I had to be the there right after they open the door to avoid huge line up back in the day. Their taco was revolutionary. It was so good and I felt like someone who never tried Mexican food before should always come to this place first to be instantly fell in love with Mexican food. Even now they maintain taste consistency and it still tastes same as the first year. My go to are Gobernador( smoked tuna, shrimp & cheese $7.50) & Pulpo A La Mexicana( grilled octopus $7.50) Don't forget to dress with both salsa verde and hot sauce!! One taco is more like snack size and it might not be enough to be a meal. You can always check for their CASH SPECIAL or order El Fortachon( loaded cartotas nachos). Nestled in the heart of Kensington Market this is a must visit if you are looking to try a decent taco. There are definitely better ones in the city but this isn't too shabby for $7. I went with the Chicken Taco and it was pretty decent. But I reckon, the chicken could have been generously seasoned. If you are looking for a sit down place with tables and chairs then this might not be the best place. Having said that, there are plenty tables to wait/stand at and finish your taco ;) Overall I would rate my experience 8/10! read more

Now these are BIG tacos! Two is definitely filling.m enough. A single taco is pretty pricey at $7-$9 however it definitely works out for how big they are. I had the halloumi with cactus and the octopus taco. There was SO much octopus too, I was so surprised! They don't skimp on ingredients and it was my favourite out of the two for sure. I got takeout so I can't comment on the ambience but it was a very casual setting with high tables. This place is pretty popular so expect a line! read more
One of the BEST fish tacos I've ever had! It was the first thing I ate after I landed in Toronto and it definitely hit the spot. The fish was crispy without being consumed by fried batter. It was a crowded Sunday afternoon back in June and I had to order at a table located right outside the shop. Menu was posted on the window. Quickly stood on the sidewalk to eat it. No tables or chairs. I just regret not having another taco before I left Toronto. read more
Being such a highly-recommended place, seven lives brought me in curious to see why. Ordered two tacos: camarones and blackened cod--both were a bit pricey at $7 each but oh my gosh these were amazing. Camarones: the tortilla was blanketed with warm melted cheese and the shrimp was covered in this rich spicy sauce--that sauce is fantastic I could eat it by itself. My absolute favorite taco I've had in a long time. Blackened cod: codfish was cooked well and loaded with other ingredients-crunchy cabbage and refreshing tomato and cilantro. This place is not a sit-down place--you stand while you eat your tacos. No-frills. It's like they know how good their tacos are, so they skip right to the punch: you order, salivate as you wait, eat, enjoy, then leave. Definitely make a pit stop here if you can! read more
What happened.. I use to rave about this place. I ordered the gobenator and it was over stuffed with dry fish... So dry I wondered if it was chicken. No flavour. I also got the pork which was flavour full. But again the tacos was so stuffed and the oil broke the shell from the start. I regret buying the tacos. Really sad I was looking forward to then read more
It's been a few years since I first visited Seven Lives and I gotta say, their tacos are still soooo good! I especially loved their spicy shrimp and cheese taco and the octopus tacos. Perfectly cooked and tasty - highly recommend these two options! read more

The place has tables to stand at, or there is also a bench right outside the door. The menu items change regularly, though the smoked tuna and shrimp taco is normally available. I had one of those, and it was delicious! The shrimp was perfectly cooked, the tuna was smoky and tender, and the pickled onions were a perfect accent. My son had the blackened cod, and said it was delicious. I had the grilled octopus, and was not a fan. The octopus was chewy and had an overly fishy flavor. I would go back again for the smoked tuna and shrimp tacos. read more
