Delicious birria tacos! Extra crispy on the outside and flavorful on the inside. Just don't forget it's cash only!

The place was great staff was friendly food was super tasty and came out fast! It's a very homey place kinda like a hole in the wall would recommend.

    Here for the menudo.

I read a lot of mixed reviews and we still went to check it out. THE FOOD IS GOOD! The menudo was awesome. Best menudo I've tired in Omaha. The pieces were a little bigger than I'd like but the soup had a great flavor and it was served hott. We took my super critical Mexican mother even she liked the menudo. Fresh hand made tortillas come with the big bowl of menudo. We also ordered tacos and the birria quesadillas, which were also bomb.com Prices are okay. Tacos are $2.50 but they're big and come with those fresh handmade tortillas. The menudo is $14.50 it's a little pricey but, 1. It's good 2. Food is expensive everywhere. -SÚPER FRIENDLY STAFF. -Only down fall is that it's CASH ONLY and they didn't have glass cokes.

There was a long wait, but that was a good sign. There is nothing fancy about this place at all. However, the waitresses and waiters were working hard to get people seated. The food was so flavorful and delicious. It is a cash only restaurant. Parking can be a challenge if it is busy. We will be back soon to try other dishes. All waitstaff were so nice that we tipped extra. Being nice makes a difference in this industry.

Birrieria El Chalan has become my go-to sit down Mexican restaurant in South O. Homey, comfortable, with the same 2 ladies working the front serving and running the show. The food here is simple and delicious. The normal South O menu exists here- toras, street tacos, burritos etc, but they also have super delicious meat/soup/stews like the pork rib stew and the beef chunk stew, which is served with a platter of rice and beans and some warm tortilla to make your own tacos with it. Perfect for a cool fall day or a rainy day blues. The fresh guac here is outstanding and very inexpensive for the qaulity. I also love the texture of the house chips and all the varieties of salsa. CASH ONLY but 100% worth your time and the inconvenience.

This place is BUSSIN! You want some authentic real mexican quesabirrias? COME HERE THIS THE SPOT!! Thwy great for the price and when eaten with the consome its the best! So flavorful. They being the food out relatively quick. Only part i did not like was its not the cleanest inside and its old wobbly tables but that does NOT change the way the food tastes DELICIOUS DEFINITELY RECOMMEND THE QUESABIRRIAS.

I believe I got the #1. This is definitely the best birria in town! The tortillas are homemade, they give you a side of lime cilantro and onion to add to your liking! Agua de horchata is perfect as well! I cannot remember the name of our server but she made us feel so welcomed and was just so nice to us. I will definitely be back!

Horchata, where have you been all my life?

I worked right across the street for an entire year before my students convinced me to try out this little place. It's nothing special on the inside (and easy to miss on the outside!), but the food and sweet people who work there make it worthwhile. While the staff doesn't speak much English (lots of pointing going on when I'm there), they are very patient! The tacos and tortas (like a big taco sandwich) with asada are my favorites, washed down with a big glass of horchata. Lately El Chalan has upped their game by adding roasted peppers, onions, and radishes on the side. They are also one of the seemingly rare places around town that offer complimentary chips and salsa. I took 40 teens here on a field trip and they were extremely helpful and understanding, which is the biggest compliment I can give!

They definitely know what they're doing. The flavor in the pozole is incredible and of course the tacos are bomb. Great spot, 5/5.

It's super cute inside, with so many bright colors, neat Día de los Muertos murals along the walls, colorful pendants strung on top of the dining area, and a very cool bar with a patterned, arched shelves. Even the dishes and cups are fabulous, with earthenware mugs, blue Talavera style dishes and bowls, and even branded El Milagro margarita glasses. Now more importantly, the FOOD is just as good as the decor and the dishware. They use extra high quality ingredients, and everything is always served hot and fresh. We have had the birria, nachos, street tacos, flautas, and so many other things when we branch out and try something new. Their drink options are also great, with strong margaritas, crisp cervesas, and tasty cocktails. The service is always fantastic, and they are always hopping with customers, so you know you found a good spot. Best of all, you get pretty large portions, and it doesn't cost an arm and a leg like some of the newer Mexican restaurants in town. Next time you're thinking about heading to the Texas Roadhouse area, skip the Roadhouse and try El Milagro instead! I guarantee you will not regret your decision.

When we walked in it seemed like our server was the only one there working - drinks took a while to arrive and didn't come as pictured on the passport but were still good. I got the Barria taco meal and never received my rice that went along with it, ended up being fine I was full but could have taken for leftovers. Plenty of tables and cute decor. Overall, the food was the star of the show and our waiter got the job done with our large party it was just slower service than I was hoping for an early off peak meal. Worth it to come in expecting slow service to get a good meal imo!

Not only is the food incredible, but the staff are the absolute best and the ambiance is very welcoming and comfortable. We started with some chips and dips, and the queso was delicious. I chose to get the carne asada for dinner and it was absolutely AMAZING. The steak was so juicy and tender, and seasoned to perfection. I was so impressed, and it was perfectly paired with some tortillas de maiz, the guacamole, and rice and beans. I would absolutely get this meal again. The service was fantastic, and it felt like a true family restaurant. The chips were so good, and the salsa was spicy but not too much for people with sensitive palates. I love this style of chips, not a thin restaurant style but a thicker, more savory bite. We went through one portion before our food got to us and they brought more out when I asked. I highly recommend the tacos. I made a mistake and asked for birria not quesabirria tacos, so make sure to specify that if you want quesabirria (with cheese). But, the birria was good anyways! I also got the taco macho (see the pic for what's inside), and wish I would've ordered 2 of those! My husband got the huitlacoche and squash blossom tacos and they were both so good. I was so impressed they had huitlacoche as an option, I've never seen that before! The drinks were ordered and delivered from the server, but she said since they're working on a liquor license they have a bar next door that makes them. If you order a drink with your food, they charge for the drinks and food separate for that reason. I liked my jalapeño margarita! My husband got a cantarito and said it's the best one he's had from all the places we've tried to far!

The streetcar boondoggle is not affecting their block so parking is available. Decor is calming. I did not opt for an adult beverage as they were a bit pricey and I needed to retain focus. Settled on chicken enchiladas. Very tasty with some kick. The cheese was drizzled on top rather than baked through. Service was exceptionally friendly, I suspect from the bartender/proprietor. Would definitely return if in the area, but for now I am generally avoiding streetcar construction chaos. If you are downtown anyway, go.
