Awesome food!! Hands down the best I've had in along time. I'd put them up against any other Mexican restaurant on in town.

This the third time we've had dinner at this location. Every time we drive-by it always seems to be busy. The atmosphere inside is always very well decorated for the season/occasion. This last visit they had the entire restaurant decorated for Valentine's Day coming up. But, besides the additional decorations the overall vibe is what you would expect for a Mexican restaurant but more. The service has been friendly and fast! The original Margarita is very good and for the price its about 3 servings. The complementary chips & salsa is great and more of a forgotten service nowadays, but great to see that Alegre is still doing it. The homemade tortilla chips are so good so be careful to not fill up on these before the main entrees. Kendra got the Chile Verde which was massive and was enough food for leftovers the next day. And, I had the Ceviche Sampler which is new and definitely worth every penny! It's hard to find restaurants that have ceviche on the menu, but this has been one of my favorites if you love seafood and a repeater for me! If your looking for more of an upscale $$ Mexican restaurant with great food, service and ambiance it's hard to beat El Muchacho Alegre. read more

We had been suggested this place by a friend and it came highly recommended! I enjoyed that everything seemed to be made fresh to order and that it came out pretty quickly. The tacos I had were very warm and very filling, I was able to take some home for lunch the next day. The Cantarita was ok, seemed like it wasn't something that is usually made and it seemed more like it came in a bowl than the typical dish ware. The servers were very friendly and was able to help out when we had questions. The place itself was very well decorated and didn't seem cluttered. Super fun restaurant with great food and drinks! I wish I would've tried something else on the menu because I wasn't a big fan of the cantarito I ordered, but the margaritas looked fab on the menu! I've had this restaurant recommended by multiple people and I can say it lives up to the hype. I loved the decor and music playing, the atmosphere was casual and fun. We were sat in a little booth but there are high and low tables and a bar area inside and a patio outside. The patio is shaded, which will be nice in the summer. We had chips and salsa brought to the table, and they were the typical restaurant chips and salsa, nothing special but tasty. I ordered the birria tacos and was so glad I did! They were cheesy, greasy, full of meat, and the consommé was rich and flavorful. The rice was really flavorful and the beans were typical. My husband ordered a cantarito and I thought it sounded good so I ordered one too. They were much bigger than we've had before. They were kind of warm, cherries were added, and it was heavy on the orange juice. I wouldn't order one again, but I would definitely order a margarita. They all sounded so good, and I'd love to try the candy shots! They only came as a set of 4, I wish we could get them individually. What a nice add to the Papillion restaurant scene. Have had lunch here for the 3rd time including today on Father's Day. The food; Fresh, attractively plated, and delicious. We had a party of four today. Started with the guacamole. Nicely prepared. We had chili rellenos (spot on....fully cooked and delicious sauce), shrimp cocktail, chicken in a mole sauce, and a cheese enchilada. Great margaritas. Pretty extensive menu, so we are looking forward to going back to try new things. One more comment...the staff is great. Attentive and great personalities. read more

My boyfriend and I visited El Muchacho Alegre for dinner. When we got there, the place was packed, but we still got seated pretty quickly. Our food did take a while to come out though and while I know we were there right in the middle of rush hour, I'm pretty sure our order got forgotten because a few tables that sat after us got their food first. That being said, the food was really good. The portions are huge, definitely enough for two meals! I ordered the chiles rellenos and they were delicious. I'm extra picky about rice and beans, and honestly, theirs are some of my favorites compared to other Mexican spots. The patio wasn't open that day because of the weather, but it looked like it would be a great spot for dinner and drinks when it's nice out. Went here hoping for quality Mexican food and margaritas. It was very busy on a Thursday night, and there is some outdoor seating that was more available. The service and seating was quick, and overall, the service was the bright spot here. I went with the enchiladas Verdes and the house margarita. The house margarita was made from mix and less than stellar (should have read the menu!). The traditional margarita was made with fresh lime juice and definitely hit the spot. I wouldn't order the house margarita again. The food was standard Omaha Mexican food...ground beef in my enchiladas, which is not my favorite (I asked for shredded but I think there was a miscommunication). Three years later, this is still our favorite Mexican restaurant! Chips and salsa are still the best in town. The secret of their success here are thin chips that I think are made from flour tortillas instead of thick corn chips. Perfection. At many restaurants we go to often, I have 1-2 dishes I get. But here, I order all over the menu. Chimichanga, burritos (especially their new Burrito Gordo), nachos, combos, fajitas are all great. Lots of meat and portions are huge. My favorite is still Chori Pollo with added jalapenos. Service is excellent regardless of who our server has been. They decorate for major holidays and offer outdoor seating on nice days. Whether you go to this location or the one in Gretna, you won't be disappointed! read more

It's FAJITA MONDAY!! Steak fajitas no less. Seasoned well, tender. Tortilla to condiment ratio was spot on. ... with a starter of what we thought was Corn on the Cob DIP (...it was under the dip category) but ended up with street corn on the cob. Maybe that was just a me assumption? Either way, delish nonetheless! Full transparency, if hot mayo ain't your thing this isn't for.. you. That lime juice sprinkle though... I LOVE a good Chile Relleno and it's always a must try when we stuff our face holes with free chips and salsa, before our very hot dishes came out. Did it trip my trigger? Not really, no. The rice and beans were a great taste, not salty which was much appreciated. The salsa... my kinda salad... 0/10 They've got a full bar, with PLENTY to libations, great HUGE margaritas (sans tonight, fuggin migraines). Very good salsa. Ironically for a Mexican place, a lot of the food needed salt, but was still pretty good. Sadly our service was really bad. The food came out fast but it was one of those situations where we barely ever saw our waiter. It was super busy and he was busting his butt so I wasn't mad at him but it really hurt our experience. New to Omaha, we are on the lookout for good locally owned restaurants. El Muchacho Alegre was recommended to us by friends and we had the chance to eat a late lunch there recently. Service was efficient and friendly! The room decorations were nice. The menu was diverse. Most importantly, the food was delicious! I ordered the Seafood Chimichanga, but I guess I was served the Seafood Burrito... Not a problem! It was delicious! It was chock-full of shrimp and other fish -- actually stuffed (not like some places who serve a limp offering with just a bit of fish)! We came here for Mothers Day and enjoyed a lunch on the patio! It was mildly busy but our server was attentive. I went for the fajita bowl. I really like the veggies included. It is packed with thinly sliced steak and well cooked veggies, beans, and rice. Washed it down with a margarita and all in all nice meal. The complimentary rose was a nice touch as well. I do not think charing $8.99 for kraft macaroni and cheese is fair, the fries for the kids meal were warm but not cooked all the way. My siblings and I had lunch together on a slow Monday afternoon in December. We have been to many Mexican restaurants in Omaha, and this location wins the award for the worst Mexican food in the Big O. The taco was filled with mystery meat. The chile relleno was filled with spinach and cheese which lacked any flavor. It didn't taste like a Mexican dish at all. The service was mediocre, at best. The ambiance is predictable and boring, almost Mexican lite. There are so many better Mexican restaurants in Omaha. I would recommend avoiding this one. read more

I have gone here to lunch with my dad and daughter three times now. The service is always great but my food has been a little hit and miss. While I do think the value is definitely there for the money (the have $9 lunch specials) sometimes the food is a little soso. I have gotten the chimichangas twice and they were pretty good but I also had the chile relleno and it was unfortunately cold in the middle and not great flavor-wise. Ate here for the first time. The placed was packed with customers. Took my daughter and son in law here to dine. We were lucky to get a booth. Even the tables were full. The guacamole was excellent and ditto the cheese dip. I ordered the Chili Verde. The pork was tender and juicy and pulled apart with a light touch. I had black beans and rice with flour tortillas . I asked for and received additional green salsa. My guests ordered a variety of enchiladas and burritos. My daughter drank the Horchata. What a great restaurant for Mexican! The place is spacious and quiet. We started out with a generous complimentary basket of corn tortilla chips and salsa. We each had our own dip bowl of delicious salsa poured from a small flask. I had a lovely house Margarita and potato enchiladas. My entree came with an amazingly fresh small salad of greens and tomatoes, a bowl of black beans and three tasty enchiladas with a potato filling topped with flavorful red sauce and an drizzle of queso fresco. I loved every thing. Black Cat Man, my brother, ordered steak fajitas and it was a huge portion with all the expected elements of fajitas. He thought it was great. Service was quick and friendly.
