Since the studio is so close and this was an opportunity to extend my new mom network, I pre-registered for the second time mom class while I was pregnant. I was assigned to a class with Julie as the instructor whom I just adored from the moment I met her. She was such a warm smiling presence to come to for 8 consecutive weeks. The topics spanned different things like pelvic floor, infant PT, 2 different mental health therapists, a parent coach to help with the transition from 1 to 2. We had a small group of 7 moms and were able to meet up a couple times during our class series. I enjoyed my experience at the los Al location and the parking was certainly much less stressful than in newport. Iykyk.

I reach out again and finally get a new appointment. 2nd appointment come around and it's ok. 3rd appointment comes around and she cancels on me again and informs me she can no longer help me because of personal problem. Tells me she made notes and I am welcome to find another lactation consultant in their network. I only get 3 free consultations through my insurance and she wasted 2 of them. I needed help because my son was not gaining weight. Meanwhile she is giving me the runaround and wasting valuable time while I as a new mom am feeling anxious because I don't know what I am doing wrong. Overall experience was not at all helpful.

My husband was able to come as well and they even dedicated a part of the class to the dads and how important their role is. While I appreciate how friendly and thorough Leora was at my consult, the recommendation she gave…read moreme for flange size for pumping was completely wrong and caused me a few days of terrible pain. I had been exclusively pumping, pretty comfortably after a lot of trial and error on my own, with 24mm flanges. However, my output was diminishing and I saw so many different approaches to flange sizing online that I decided to see a professional to get sized. I was shocked when Leora said I was a 14/15mm instead of 24mm given the vast discrepancy, but after trying the smaller size out in her office on my pump, the output did improve, and the comfort level seemed fine. I was initially very excited and bought the new smaller flanges from her. When I went home, I did 2 more pumps with the smaller flanges, but noticed that my nipples were starting to go numb at the end of each pump and throb in the hours after, even when I adjusted suction to the minimum. I thought maybe this was just part of the transition process and was initially planning to try the new flanges for a full day, but the pain kept getting worse so after 3 sessions with the smaller ones, I switched back to the 24s. I noticed new dark spots on my nipple tips that looked like bruises. The next day and a half of pumps even with the 24s were miserable as my nipples were constantly throbbing and sore from having been injured. Finally about 36 hours later, they started to feel better. Thank goodness I stopped before the damage got worse. I'm very disappointed by this experience because Leora came highly recommended by a friend, and has so many excellent reviews. I understand flange sizing is a bit of art and thought I could trust a professional with so much experience, but unfortunately that did not turn out to be the case.

I originally found Linda on Yelp and was looking to get a lactation consultant asap as I had just…read moregotten home from the hospital and my newborn was having trouble latching. Linda was able to come out asap and she very much helped me! We realized he did better on a nipple shield and have been using one the last two weeks. He's been getting stronger and able to breast feed no problem. During our first session, she was able to confirm that my insurance would cover a postpartum Doula. So I get 11 sessions through Kaiser, which has been wonderful! So Linda comes to my house once or twice a week to help me in my recovery and breast-feeding journey. It has been really nice to have the support and the help. She's really been great! We will be working on getting him off the nipple sheilds, hopefully in the next few weeks. But having the help at home has really been great as well as the lactation support. I would definitely recommend calling her and seeing if you were insurance will cover visits from her. Tiffany is amazing! She helped me and my baby with our feeding/nursing journey when I felt like no…read moreone was providing any answers and I was so stressed out as a first time mom. As an OT, I sought out Tiffany after learning that she is a lactation consultant and a speech therapist because I wasn't sure if my son was having issues latching and if his mild tongue tie was limiting him from using a bottle when I was preparing to go back to work. She went above and beyond in answering all my questions and concerns, and even took time outside of working hours in sharing her thoughts and suggestions. It was the first time that I felt seen regarding my son's feeling problems and drop in weight. There truly isn't anyone else that can provide a comprehensive service during the first year of a child's feeding/nursing life like Tiffany can. And even though I had to pay out of pocket since my insurance didn't cover her services (which was worth every penny btw), she was able to walk me through the steps to help us transition my son's feeding service to miller's outpatient so I would be in network. I honestly can not rave enough about Tiffany because she truly is great at what she does.

She made me feel like I could succeed at this! My husband was invited to the appointment which also helped and he was blown away by how helpful an in-office appointment was as well. It was hands down the best thing I could have done for me and my family. We talked and brainstormed for a great amount of time, I never felt rushed. Then she measured me for flanges and I was much smaller than I had been using- who would have thought! That was huge because with my son I was using the wrong size flange the entire time I Pumped with him. Then we did a weighed feed and talked about next steps. And I leaned Hanna took in 2 oz from the one side which was so helpful! Then Tiffany followed up with a care plan and was available for messaging the following two weeks. Thank you so much!

First off, it can be hard to find time to take a birth class, and Lia chooses convenient times, with multiple options to choose from. It's a very comfortable classroom atmosphere where I felt good to ask any question, or add any comment. Lia keeps it fun and interesting, and is a great teacher. Lia is also available outside of class for questions, and she is super responsive. It shouldn't really matter if a doula has been pregnant herself.... But it was really helpful to hear about her first hand experiences and to know that she has gone through it all before. I just wish we in lived in LA so that we could have Lia as our Doula.

I really wanted to know everything I possibly could and I was also looking for a little community as I was feeling very alone in those first weeks of pregnancy (and overwhelmed with what I didn't know). AND THESE CLASSES DELIVERED! My husband is also a knowledge seeker so when I told him these were the classes I wanted he was all in. We learned so much. We joke that he didn't just learn about the natural birth process he learned how to be my "daddy doula". We still enjoy talking to people about everything we learned and how to support each other and how to speak to your doctors or the hospital nurses. Even if you aren't considering a natural birth these classes should be taken by everyone expecting a baby. You learn about the body, you learn about the different stages of labor, how to prep your body and your mind. There is even a class on breastfeeding which was invaluable those first 3 days postpartum. Lia is also an amazing teacher. If I have another I would definitely also hire her as my doula. She is a person you want in your corner during birth.
