BUT, we got there right as they were bringing out lunch... AND WHAT A TREAT THAT WAS!!! I got the fried chicken thighs, mashed potatoes and turkey gravy, and collard greens..., words can't describe the taste, texture, aroma, EVERYTHING! And to top that off, as she fills the to-go box with my food, she asked me if I wanted a roll, THEY WERE LITERALLY PULLING A FRESH BATCH OUT OF THE OVEN!!! This place is legit the best!! I expect some people may think this review is unfair, so I'm going to try to provide as much detail and be as transparent as possible so others can decide for themselves how helpful this is. I expect that, like most people, I was drawn to this place by its risque name. (No, I am not into porn. I just appreciate a business that's willing to offend people.) Also, it had 5 stars on Yelp, so, you know, I was excited to try it, as I am with all 5-star restaurants. I am not from the OBX, and this place doesn't have a sign up that can be seen from the road. Naturally, I passed it, then had to backtrack, which is not an easy thing to do on Croatan. When I finally got there, I realized it wasn't a restaurant attached to a gas station: It IS the gas station. I was immediately skeptical. But there was a line of people (who were clearly locals, like cops and construction workers) waiting for food, and Yelp said it was worth 5 stars, so okay, I went in and got in line. The menu is simple: a variety of breakfast sandwiches and fried chicken with various side dishes. All of the food is ready-prepared, not prepared to order. I got there about 11 am and they were out of some basic stuff (like cheese biscuits). I ordered sausage, egg, and cheese on a plain biscuit and saw both the sausage and egg come out of a heated cupboard. I started to worry. I saw the attendant put a slice of what looked like Kraft cheese on top and close the biscuit. Now, this might sound princess-y, but I have a thing about unmelted cheese: It's revolting. So I said to the attendant, "Is it possible to melt the cheese on the biscuit? To put it in a toaster oven or something?" She gave me a look like she was totally unaccustomed to people asking for any kind of special order, then said, "The biscuit's hot, so it'll melt." I sincerely doubted that, but was standing in a gas station, so just said okay, took the bag, paid, and looked for a place to sit. There is no place to sit--to go only. I sighed and went to my car, gave the biscuit a few minutes to "heat through", then looked in the bag: cheese nowhere near melted. I was starving--right then and there--so I just gave up and went to Waveriders. The biscuit I ordered from Biscuits N' Porn came home with me, went into the refrigerator, and has been there for two days now. I couldn't bring myself to eat unmelted cheese then, and I can't bring myself to eat a microwave-reheated breakfast sandwich from a gas station now. On Saturday, when I leave the OBX, I'm sure I'll just throw it in the trash. (Yes, starving people of the world, I am sorry and ashamed.) So, yeah, call me spoiled or foodie snob or what you will, but this place is not for anyone who wants something more than high quality gas station food. I've no doubt the locals love it as a place to get a cheap, quick, better-than-fast-food bite to eat (I mean, 5 stars on Yelp... sheesh), but for people coming down here partly for good food, Biscuits N' Porn is a huge disappointment. Yes it's in a gas station, and yes there is one small section of magazines (easy to miss) but these are genuinely some of the best biscuits you'll ever eat. The line may be long but moves quickly and honestly it gives you time to get oriented and inspect the menu. Note- the menu doesn't list everything (ex. hash browns) and the staff seemed happy to help. Definitely a local's place. All the employees were chatting and joking with the customers as they came in. Biscuits are fantastic. Had a bacon, egg and cheese on a plain biscuit that was probably the best I ever had. They had cheese biscuits too which were a little too rich for me, especially if I'm eating a breakfast sandwich but on their own, they're ok.
