My family and I where driving from Los Angeles to lake Tahoe when our vehicle broke down 18 miles north of Bishop on the 395. We where trying to get the vehicle towed to Reno Nevada the nearest Lexus dealership. AAA and Lexus where useless. It was 3 o'clock on a Thursday and no would help. We where able to get a hold of Bishop Automotive Center right before closing time. They sent a tow truck, the driver was friendly and professional. I called the next morning and they where already looking at the vehicle. They finished the work before the end of the day and the price was extremely fair. After paying online they set up a late pickup for Sunday, as we where coming back down south. Nate had our keys waiting for us at the Chevron gas station next door. A friend of mine, an older woman went in just before Christmas for 2 new tires, she was told she had to buy all 4 of the same or it wouldn't be "safe" she did, 280 each. 2 months later 1 tire went flat so she took it in they ordered her a tire, put another non matching tire on for 2 weeks while they ordered the tire, then when they put the new tire on they charged her for the tire and the mounting (only 2 months old) The AAA driver told her he say a few weird bumps on the tire when he put air in to get to BA When she asked why they were charging her instead of warranty the said she drove on the flat and it was her fault. She didn't have the personality to argue with them which I think they knew she wouldn't. I will never go in there again and will tell this story to anyone I know who might Bad karma is in their future, I hope. read more

We broke down just about 10miles outside of Bishop in our RV...it was so awful . AAA couldn't find anybody close to tow us however we decided to call around ourselves and we got a hold of Nate at Bishop Automotive Center ....thank god! He was so nice and helpful and was the reason we were able to restart our RV. We got to Bishop Automotive the next morning and not only were all the guys working friendly as we had to hang out all day due to such a busy business Nate himself came to make sure we got our parts and had a place to stay in our RV since we were stranded. Mediocre. Had an appointment scheduled. Took almost 2-1/2 hours for an oil change and tire rotation. Would be ok but was told about an hour and I had other appointments to meet. Man at desk was rude and unhelpful. I watched the tech work, was very lazy and spent most his time chatting with other techs. Tech left plastic and paper in vehicle and oil finger prints all over steering wheel. Pretty unacceptable for $160. First and last time customer. Will continue to use A&L tire down the street. read more

I am a local with a 98 Chevy and have really tried to work with these guys but it has been tough. The main office guy Tyrell is nice enough but always has a ton of excuses about why they cant work on my car for several weeks- they have to work on cop cars, someone has a broken arm, computer is down etc etc so much baloney all the time and as unprofessional as I've ever seen. When I finally bring my van in on a designated date two or three weeks out Tyrell can't remember why I'm binging my car in and then i remind him and then the vehicle sits around for another week and I come down to check it out and they have not had a chance to work on it ..... and then comes all the excuses again. This place is pretty shoddy and I hope that whatever's going on with them can clear up but in the meantime I strongly recommend staying far away from this place unless youre looking to hear a lot excuses instead of straight talk read more

Outstanding service and help above the call, hench this 5 star review for Bishop Automotive. My wife and I and our medium sized dog were on a disbursed camping adventure. Our first day out from home in Mariposa, we suffered a mechanical breakdown. Stuck on the highway North of Mammoth Mountain we were unable to have any shops there help us in a timly manner. We managed to get AAA to tow us to Bishop as a result. I had spoke with the mechanic Tyrell, at Bishop Automotive who understood the issue we were having, so that's where we went. He said he thought he could squeeze us into their busy schedule since it sounded like a relatively easy fix. Upon arrival I knew the part may take a few days to get if it was even available. I made arrangements to stay in a motel about 3 miles away. There are very limited ride services available in Bishop. At the end of the day, we arrived at the shop and were treated kindly, professionally and respectfully. Parts were unavailable but we had figured out a way to bypass the issue with some adaptions that got us back on the road the very next morning. We were able to finish our vacation and return home absolutely trouble free. Tyrell asked me if we had found a ride yet. I said I tried every thing I could and nothing was available. My wife was a little bit past the verge of tears because it was too far at our age to walk with our dog in tow. Not to mention being very upset with the tow truck ride from hell there, by AAA contract company Performance Towing out of Mammoth Lakes. Tyrell stepped up and offered the three of us a ride, on the opposite end of town from his after-work destination. What a life saver that evening he was for us. The whole crew at Bishop Automotive was great, they were reasonably priced and saved our vacation which included non-refundable pre payments. (The front tires were worse than the back.) The good folks at Bishop Auto Center got us right in and the rotation done at a fair price. Twice we've had problems with our vehicle while traveling in the Bishop area. Twice we've come here and had the issues taken care of quickly and professionally. You can't ask for more. Or can you? Yes, you can expect to be charged fairly and you'll get that here too. The second time in, we had a problem with the suspension/braking systems up front. After the mechanic did the initial diagnosis and evaluation, I was given an estimate on the repairs, including for a couple of unrelated issues that I was happy to be informed of but that weren't critical to repair. I authorized the repairs necessary to get the vehicle back on the road safely. When presented with the final bill - after just a couple of hours repair time, which was great - I noticed I was being charged less than the estimate. The difference was labor time. So it took them less time to do the job than estimated. Some shops might not revise that part of the bill. Not here. These folks are standup honest. And they're friendly and approachable. Blew a tire at Twin Lakes outside of Bridgeport. Rode the spare and a busted alignment nut into Bridgeport. Called several places, and Bishop Auto was the only shop that had the tire size I needed. I drove from Bridgeport to Bishop, the tire was changed quickly and at a very fair price. Further damage was realized to the alignment. It was over 100 degrees the day I went there, the techs were going to go home early due to the heat. Mario was walking back from a break and asked if he could take a look. He knew the problem right away and said he could fix it. He easily could have left for the day, but instead stayed and fixed it for me, with a very reasonable and fair price behind the work. Stopped by to refill my propane in my 36' RV. They had to move a few cars to make room for me but did so relatively quickly. Great service.

I've had decent work done here but it's really hit or miss. I came in once to have my battery checked and they assured me it was fine. It wasn't, it died a couple weeks later and I had to tow the car in from mammoth area. They always act like they are too busy or too important to deal with you. Specifically Jamie at the front desk has the worst attitude in town. He's rude and completely off putting. Actually the only one there with this attitude. Every one else is friendly. Jamie shouldn't be allowed to interact with the clientele. Most recently I had to call him (Jamie) to schedule a routine service appointment which would be 2 full weeks out because they were too busy. I gave him my account details and made the appointment for "their first appointment" of the morning 2 weeks out. When I get down to Bishop and bring him (Jamie) my keys I asked how long I should plan to walk around town for. He had the audacity to tell me "we don't do waiter appointments" it could be several hours. I said I wish I would have known that when I scheduled the appointment over the phone and BEFORE I drove all the way down. He said "the guy" didn't put it down as a waiter and we put another appointment ahead of you. First apt of the day and you squeezed someone in ahead of me, cool dude! Ironically Jamie, you are "the guy" that took the appointment. It was never told to me I couldn't wait, nor was it asked of me where I was bringing the car in from. But considering this isn't my first time here, that information is front and center in my account. Mind you I have waited many times (every single time actually) for service at this shop, I've never been told this or treated this way by anyone else. Considering this shop services all of the eastern Sierra, the question of whether you are dropping off or waiting should be routinely asked while on the phone scheduling the appointment. If I had been told in advance that they don't do waiter appointments I could have made arrangements to drop the car off and get myself out of there for the day. This isn't LA there is no Uber. You cannot expect people to just come down from various distances and sit in Bishops ungodly heat while they wait for you to do a routine job they scheduled an appointment for. Two hours after my appointment time, the temps in town are getting unbearable and my car hasn't even moved an inch. I got my keys back and left. They will gladly have you waiting all day with zero regard. If you can help it, don't waste your time with these people. They aren't friendly or efficient and they really couldn't care any less about you or the value of your time. I'm not sure how much more unprofessional you can get to double book appointments, and make someone wait around for multiple hours after their appointment time without even starting the work. If that's how they operate that's their business, but they don't deserve yours or mine. A client should always know ahead of time whether a drop off is necessary. They are definitely off my list of reliable service providers. There is no great value in their service over anyone else. So I will take my business elsewhere. Even if I had waited all day and got the service done, I still would never go back to them after knowing Jamie is so quick to throw someone else under the bus for his failures. My consolation is that they didn't get my money. That should be a huge red flag to his coworkers and his dad. Can't trust a guy so willing to lie and skirt off blame to his companions. read more

They will try and sell you parts that are not needed then when the noise is still present try and get more money to fix the problem the car originally came in with. Completely over priced and charged way more than book time. Place is full of liars and con artists. Save your money and go elsewhere. They'll tell you your vehicle is first in line then proceed to have you wait all day while other vehicles are pulled in one after another and yours sits. We were traveling through with our pickup and RV and needed a tire repair. I called they had the correct RV tire. When I pulled in, they had me park right in front and started on the job quickly: mounted new tire on original rim and swapped it out with spare on the trailer. Perfect. One hour, start to finish and we were back on 395 heading south. My wife and I sure appreciate the promptness and friendly attitude towards us. The technician's professional manner and a clean shop made a good impression for sure. A special shout out to Jaime (service manager) and Christopher who did the tire work. Would absolutely recommend Bishop Automotive Center! After a few weeks into a big road trip, I noticed a big leak under my car and found these guys in Bishop. They immediately got me in even though they were so busy. Walter & Cam did an amazing job replacing my water pump and timing belt and I was able to get back on the road in less than week. The AC wasn't blowing cold on my GMC pickup. I scheduled an appointment, was able to drop it off the night before, very convenient for me. The Tech (Walter) diagnosed the Schrader valve failing, replaced it. recharged the system and AC practically shoots out ice now. Jamie (Service Advisor)was a) as always, friendly & helpful. Aftermath: I broke down about 30 miles south of Big Pine going home to LA County AFTER having my vehicle serviced here. Needless to say, I wasn't going to take it back to this shop after I had to make a trip back here just to retrieve the vehicle, but I am disappointed that my issue was diagnosed incorrectly and was told that my problem was just the battery. Back story: This past memorial day weekend of 2021 I was supposed to head up to Mammoth for some camping. Had car trouble about 1.5 hours out from the camp site and I couldn't get the car moving even after a jump. Locals said it might just be the battery or the alternator. It being a holiday weekend and just after hours, no shops were open and there wasn't even a way for me to get a rental or rideshare because we were in such a remote area (Independence). Thank God that an angel assisted us and helped us get to Bishop just to wait for a ride home. Car was towed the next day to Bishop Automotive and I believe it was through their very own towing service. I got a call after the holiday weekend on Tuesday about the car and was told it was just the battery. Great, the cost for the labor+battery seemed reasonable, but I didn't even get a copy of the invoice. I should note that they were nice enough to let me pick up the car from the gas station (they are closed weekends) Anyway, I noticed that my dash lights for battery and parking brake are turning on when the car is idling, with the same two lights that were showing up when I couldn't get the car moving. A creeping feeling came over me and I thought 'well maybe it just isn't charging when the car is fully stopped', so during stop lights (not many) I put the car in neutral and rev the engine a bit. Wife and I are on our way home and we pull over for a moment and are about to head back on our way but when I try to pull onto the freeway, the car doesn't accelerate and its the same problem as before I brought it in. I was upset to say the least. We were still about 3.5 hours from home. In the end we had it towed directly to our mechanic who just told us that the alternator is the issue. I honestly don't think that the mechanics at Bishop Automotive Center are unskilled, but perhaps they didn't verify all the pieces of the electrical system. In further research of this issue, I found that this particular vehicle had a recall for the alternator, but that was way back in the 2000s. Many people are saying that it was either the alternator or battery, but suggestions indicated that it could have been the voltage regulator as well. I don't know what Bishop Automotive tested as I don't have the invoice and I don't know how long they took to diagnose it only being the battery. I'm mainly upset that I spent much more money having to get this towed to another mechanic and the issue looked at AGAIN just to get it fixed. At least they were friendly at Bishop Automotive. Upon arrival at this repair shop I was greeted by the resident expert in Toyota trucks. He listened to my description of the symptoms and quickly narrowed down the possible problems. After quickly determining that the timing belt was gone, they worked up a reasonable quote for the repairs. All of this happened on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend. The shop was busy, but they helped me immediately. The repairs were done exactly as specified in the estimate. They also had the truck ready one day sooner than expected. They are friendly and fair. Two years ago, I purchased a new tire (Firestone)from these people for my rv. It de-laminated last week and caused significant damage to my rv. I then found that the tire should have never been installed due to a firestone recall. It was also manufactured in 2006! I purchased it new from these guys in 2015! It was already nine years old when I bought it new. If we had caused an accident from this blow out I'm sure lawyers would love this one.. I spoke to the good ol boy owner while I was there and it pains me to know how he was ripping me off while discussing how safety of tires on the road was so important! I hope karma takes care of him. IF YOU GUYS ARE STUCK WITH A STRANDED CAR READ THIS. My fiance and I were stuck in a cold winter for 2 hours on New Year's Eve. No tow truck was available. Even triple AAA couldn't be relied upon at that time because of the weather. Finally, we got a place to rest for the night, and the next morning, no one was able to tow my fiance's car. After that, I found a towing car service in Bishop that is a bit far away from June Lake that can tow our car back to Bishop. But the problem is, we can't go outside the June lake because of the icy road, and, obviously, our car is stranded. We asked them if we could ride along with the tow truck, and the dispatch was helpful even though, in a COVID situation, many drivers don't want to take any people inside the truck. At the same time, the dispatch was calling around the drivers that could tow and take us as well. The driver, named Brad, was really helpful! He said it was totally fine that he could ride on his truck to escape from June Lake to Bishop. He even gave us the name of a good mechanic that he trusts so the car can get fixed as soon as possible. They are reliable and really helpful.
