We went on a family trip with our Tesla to Mammoth during the Thanksgiving break. We encountered a…read moresevere winter storm, and the car's aero shield (i.e., front skid plate) was damaged. Half of the shield popped open and was frozen in place by about four inches of ice. We took our car to Warren's Auto Repair due to the great reviews, and it was a good decision. Willie, the technician on-site at the time, showed me where to take the car to get the ice removed and helped me patch up the shield enough to get home for a proper fix later. When we arrive, it was as promised. They immediately checked the issue and found the problem. Luckly parts were locally available that day. JS Automotive fixed it that day and we were able to continue our trip. From the outside the shop doesn't look like much and is situated in an alleyway. The guys at JS Automotive were great. From a pricing standpoint, they prices were what I would expect from any mechanic.

On a family RV trip to Mammoth for the 4th of July 2026, my 2010 Dodge Ram 3500 4WD, developed a…read moreswishing sound. We narrowed the sound down to the transfer case and drove the truck to the Chevron in Mammoth. They put it up on the lift, and confirmed the transfer case and recommended Jim Allen's Auto-Matics in Bishop, CA. I called and spoke with Brett the owner of Allen's Auto-Matics. I made an appointment with him for Monday July 6th and delivered my truck to him. Brett also diagnosed the swishing sound and unfortunately for me, the Ram needed a rebuilt transfer case. What fast service, in on Monday, July 6, and out on Wednesday July 8. Thank you Brett for taking me in on short notice and getting me back on the road like a pit crew at a NASCAR race. I brought my Audi in to Shorty's for a routine service and to see if Rob could help me out with the catalytic converter codes I'd been running. The Audi mechanics wanted to replace the catalytic converter and the o2 sensor, which would've cost several thousands of dollars. Rob was super honest and upfront with me about Audis not being Shorty's bread and butter, but that he could help by giving it a diagnostic, figure out what things needed attention, and decide if it was time for me to shop around for another car. In the end, he recommended that I shouldn't default to replacing the cat or the sensor and hypothesized that it was a vacuum leak, also putting together a list of priority items--which Nicole explained in detail--for my independent euro car mechanic in San Francisco to go through and replace with Audi parts. My mechanic in the city read Rob's report and agreed with everything, remarking at how thorough it was. It turns out, the car did indeed have a cracked vacuum hose. He used Rob's notes to fix all the other little things that needed attention, and now I'm back to having a perfectly running car with 160K miles on it. It's really nice to have a shop out here that can pinch hit for this kind of troubleshooting and, even if they prefer not to get into some things themselves, provide a real honest and detailed diagnosis of the likely causes and solutions are. Unfortunately, I can't say the same for the rest of the service department. Maybe oil changes and routine maintenance are their specialty. But when it came to diagnosing the check engine light on my 2006 Prius, they completely missed the mark. My Prius threw a check engine light while I was on a road trip up Highway 395. I had it towed to Perry Motors. They said they fixed it, but thankfully I took it for a test drive before leaving because the check engine light came right back on. I got charged a diagnostic fee - fair enough. They couldn't diagnose the problem and kept insisting it was an oil issue. The problem? I'd already had the oil changed at another Toyota dealer before the trip, so I knew that wasn't it. To make matters worse, another service manager actually told me, "It's OK to drive with the check engine light on--we do it all the time." I found that advice pretty disturbing  I finally took my car to J&S Automotive, where Juan Santana worked his magic. Juan is a true car whisperer--thorough, intuitive, and someone who genuinely cares about getting to the root of the problem instead of guessing. I didn't know you never put my battery back into my car ( the one you said the auto parts store had over night to charge) and I had to purchase a new battery rather than have my battery which was less than 9 months old in the car and if it was defective it would have been replaced under warranty which is why I called and texted many times during the after noon but could not wait any longer and had to spend 300 dollars. You owe me at least 300 dollars plus a list of items.....
