The last time I did make an appointment, I just wanted a straight across trim, no layering or anything, and came home with the raggediest haircut I've ever had hands down. Have you ever got your haircut done by Anna and it was like so bad that you decided to buzz it all off ? Well i did. She is the definition of what I asked for and this is what I got. I went in with a clear photo and a simple request. I even showed the stylist exactly what I wanted -- a clean fade that gathered into a V-shape in the back, like in the picture. I asked her did she want me to keep the photo up for reference? She waved me off saying, "No, no, no, no need," and just went to town. That should've been my first warning. She didn't follow the reference at all. She buzzed all the way around, left the top long for no reason, and somehow managed to make both sides uneven. My sideburns don't even match. The back isn't blended. The whole thing looks like she stopped caring halfway through. And the bangs? What the flying ****. I told her I wanted them at my eyebrows. Tell me why with any stylist wood stretch my curls straight and cut them there -- like she's never touched curly hair in her life. Now the shrinkage is real something you obviously didn't pay attention to in school. It's been two weeks and I'm still furious every time I look in the mirror. The haircut is so bad I'm getting a buzz cut just to start over. I wanted to feel pretty and confident. Instead, I look freaking butch. But that is not what I was going for. I've been going to the Bishops on Andresen since they opened locations in Vancouver. It seems like they're experiencing a lot of turnover at the Andresen location since covid. I've seen Haley, Misti and Savannah numerous times, but they have since left the Andresen salon. I was lucky enough to find Haley working at the Mill Plain location and made an appointment with her using their online app! I came in at 12 on a Friday. There was only one other customer in the salon. I was greeted by a friendly employee who asked me the covid questions, took my temperature, then asked me to fill out their covid restrictions form and sign it. I've gone through all this before...pretty customary since covid. They have added a line to the form stating you may remove your mask if you've been vaccinated for covid. Many establishments in Vancouver are doing this, since the vaccine has been opened up to everyone. Haley is wonderful! She's a great listener and always checks in during her cut to ensure she's on the right path. She's very friendly and makes you feel welcome. I was treated with a hot towel to clean the hairs off the back of my neck too! I will continue to come to this location to see Haley because I absolutely love the way she cuts my naturally curly hair! Highly recommend. read more

I scheduled for a blow dry and style with loose beach waves. The products she put on made my hair frizz and felt so dry and fried. The curls were terrible and no where near loose or beachy The more she tried the worse it got. I finally just had to say this is not what I showed you, at all. I've really really tried to like it here, I've been to both locations, and I just can't justify coming back again. I've been to both locations exclusively since February/March 2022. My first experience was at the Andresen location- I got a line design and a clean up after I had buzzed my hair off. She didn't end up charging me for the line design, it didn't look right. No harm, no foul. Went back to Andresen, different girl, good experience and dyed my hair bright purple. Third time, Mill plain for a touch up/fade and to take the line design out because my hair had grown out some by then. I believe I paid 30+ dollars and was in the chair less than 15 minutes. Fourth time, Andresen, horrendous experience. Went to dye my hair a sandy blonde and get the rest of the purple out, it lifted out very easily and then it went downhill from there. She had shaved my head prior to lifting the purple out, then after lifting, was bleaching my hair, I do not believe it needed any more bleaching as my hair was still bleached from the time I dyed it purple, I just needed the roots to be lighter. First round of bleach and my scalp was burning, she did not put a scalp protector on after shaving my head, and used a brand new bleach she'd never used before on me. I've never had issues with my scalp burning, I've colored my hair for 15+ years now. She used another bleach after taking the burny one off- and my hair turned out Garfield orange. She toned it again, but it was horrible. I've never had such an experience. 5th time, came back ti Andresen to tone it out again, it was too blonde. This helped, but it didn't look right at first as I had 2 different tones in my hair. It was icy on top, but a copper in the middle shaft, and didn't look right at all. But I digress, it ended up looking fine after a few washes. Decided to not come back to this location as it's further from me anyways. 6th time. Mill plain to get it faded/touched up. To me, the cut was just not flattering or what I asked for. Maybe that was my fault. I can't remember what I ended up paying this time. I believe today was my 7th time at Bishops- at the Mill plain location. Just to get touched up/faded with my pixie cut. I very specifically, booked a deluxe short cut with the shampoo, condition, cut, style, and hot towel option. She asked me if I wanted style and hot towel, but did not shampoo me like I had booked- and I'm not sure why. She asked if I wanted it styled after she'd already cut my hair, which no I do not want it styled because now I have to go home and shower/wash my hair because she didn't do it. I booked it that way for a reason, and she or the girl who checked me in could have confirmed with me at the beginning. I understand it's the end of the day, but this was the only time I was able to book before going on vacation. Just seemed like she was in a rush and confirmed she had personal stuff going on. Anyways, I got there at 4:55ish for a 5pm appt, I was being checked out at 5:10pm. $37 plus I left a tip because I'm not a monster. Just not coming back. read more

Over the past couple years, mostly due to COVID, I've really neglected my hair care. My hair was in desperate need of a cut, and I also liked the idea of a deep conditioning. I have had a problem in the past BUT they fixed it (174$$). That was a full weave and roots.. Went back to find out what roots and one small area of weave would cost and it was the same exactly to the dollar 174,00 roots and a weave at one area of my crown. Unbelievable I am new to the area and have been looking for a new hairdresser But refuse to pay the same for a full weave vs a small area. The Bishops on Mill Plain is really great! My son has been growing his hair out for years and finally decided that it was too much for him, time for a cut! Katie was absolutely amazing. She could tell my son was bummed about cutting his hair but she also heard us when we expressed that it was just too much for him to manage right now and she was really sweet with him. I just wish that she could see how incredibly happy he was today when he woke up and realized he didn't have to stress about his hair! He even said he feels more confident, which is such a win. This place is silly. First they don't book official appointments. Then I was quoted almost $400 for a color the stylist said could "maybe" get close too because she didn't have the dye. Finally because of the stylist was so nervous and overwhelmed I decided on a mere cut, asked for layers, and she proceeded to just straight cop the bottom inch of my hair. $40 and an hour and a half of my day off wasted. Done bother with this hipster place that employs people who don't know what the heck they r doing. read more

First impressions, I tried to sit in the chairs that this store has set up for waiting and they are just awful. I could barely fit in the chairs because I'm a little overweight and these little recycled wood chairs from a child's classroom pinched my sides and were extremely uncomfortable, my partner felt the same way. Which wouldn't have been so bad if my apt started on time, but I did not get seated until 1:30. So an hour in the bad wooden small chairs was irritating. They have no magazines, look books or anything to read while waiting or even sitting in the hair chair. The only thing they offered me was a beer. I will preface this review of the actual work done on my hair by being accountable for my own hair nightmare that I walked in with. I had bleached my own hair previously with 40 vol and I put a bright purple fashion color on top and it was very vibrant, but now unhealthy. So I sat down and acknowledged this and told the stylist exactly what I wanted. I showed pictures etc... I wanted a silver lavender like the the picture of Kelly Osbourne that I showed her. She combed through my hair and said that she WOULD be able to help and that she wouldn't let me go home unhappy. So I agreed to proceed. She began by applying a color stripper, it didn't take all of the red out and there were also several green patches. There were large chunks with a brassy orange/red left over that she told me she could try to lighten some more. So she foiled my entire hair with over 100 foils again and used a 10 vol to add to the bleach. 2 hours later we saw the results of her attempt to remove all the color and the red brassy hair was still there. I asked her to use a stronger volume to get the hairs as white as possible, she refused, stating that she wasn't comfortable doing it. This is where the confusion started. She told me at that point that she wasn't sure what to do, she began consulting with every stylist in the shop. I felt that she was becoming insecure about the situation very quickly. Her professionalism never failed, in her defense, but I could just feel her positive energy fading. She decided to continue, she foiled me again with another 100 foils to try to add some darker silver lowlights over the redder strands to cancel them out. Then before I could see it, she added the Pulp Riot lilac fashion color over the top of this brassy brownish gray and I processed at the bowl. ***side note*** their rinse bowl area is a joke, air conditioning blazing right over the top of the rinse bowl. I was freezing, shaking, she had soaked my entire back with water, she blamed it on their non water proof smocks*** After she rinses me again, more wetness, etc..we go back to the chair and she blow drys it and it looks blue, a denim blue, roots had demarcations of new growth, lilac only adhered to the new growth and the rest was, again, blue with a tan/gray poking through everywhere. By this time it was 8:30 PM. She said to me, I need to remove everything I just did and start over. I was nice and said, in the interest of time, I will have to come back for that, I paid $220 for these services. 9.5 hours in the store later. She offered me a follow up spot on Sat to correct the color. So I reluctantly accepted. She made it seem like again, everything was going to be fine. I show up on Saturday and spent 45 min under the stripper and I was still brassy. She then started to consult all the stylists again. The manager and asst manager were there to monitor the situation, but they never stepped in. Another 1.5 hours of processing later I ended up with a blue gray again. They said it looked purple. I was visibly sad and overwhelmed. I looked through it for a while and started to cry. I ended the appt, I gave her a 40$ tip for all the hard work. I unfortunately feel like shaving my head right now, full of tears. Not understanding completely what happened and why...I just know I left unhappy and they just let me leave, saying you look beautiful to try to get me to be upbeat again, but it was just all pulled out of me just like the color of purple that I would rather have again over this periwinkle blue/gray combo that they tried to sell me as purple in some way shape or form. This place is trying so hard to be a hipster hangout that they have completely alienated anyone wanting somewhat of a traditional salon coloring experience for so much money...get colored here at your own risk, prepare to be uncomfortable for long periods of time, and by the way be very afraid of the sign upfront that explicitly states that they do not offer refunds! read more

I went in with a mess of hair (black box dye layered on top of years of heat damage and neglect, and she turned my hair into a walking herbal essence commercial. As a POC it's very hard for me to find stylist who can handle my 3c/3b hair, and I must say she did a fantastic job. I went to Bishops for the first time today to get a wash, cut, and blow-dry. I could not be happier with the experience and results. Alishia is the best hair stylist I've ever had for my long, thick, and wavy/curly hair. It's like she spoke my hair's language. I'm a mom of three young kids with little time to care for my hair. It had gotten too long, dry, and lackluster. I'd actually given up hope that it could look nice again. Alishia recommended the perfect style that will be easy for me to keep up with. She asked for my input on the cut along the way, and the wash and scalp massage she gave were so relaxing. She took extra time to answer my questions and recommend affordable hair care products. I went in a couple weeks ago. First time at this location. I've had some very mixed experiences at bishops, but because I haven't been to this location decided to give them a shot and I'm so glad I did. Rebecca cut my hair and she did exactly what I was wanting. She was also very understanding of me not wanting to be there too long as a nervous new mom away from my baby for the first time, so she was able to squeeze me in. When I got home my kiddo was still napping so it worked out perfectly. She did not try to upsell me or convince me I needed something different, she just honored and gave me what I asked for and I could not be happier. Some of the stylists at other locations have told me what I wanted was "boring" and seem disappointed when I don't want half my head shaved or to leave with a bright color. I would give a zero star if I could I saw Alisha about a month ago. She gave me THE WORST haircut I've EVER HAD. I had extremely long hair and she cut it how she wanted.
