Jini is very sweet and professional. However, the quality of her haircuts has gone down since I became her client two years ago. I get my hair cut about twice a year and the most recent times I went wasn't good. I wanted a long, one-length bob, and she gave me an uneven length cut with layers. She also left a lot of stray long pieces of hair on the back of my head. I had to trim it at home, which isn't ok at all. I drove 1.5 hours through rush hour traffic and paid just to have her mess up my hair, yet again. With how much she charges for a haircut, she should really be more thorough with her work. Had an appt with Jini on 11/10. I came to my appt a little early so I waited till it's my turn. She asked me what style / cut I want. I told her I just want the back of my hair to be even and can cut few inches off as long as it's even. She replied saying "oh that's easy". She finished with my haircut in less than 15mins. She used a straightener to curl the ends of my hair inward and everything look nice. Next day I washed my hair and checked the back of my hair and I was mad!!! My hair looked horrible!! It was super uneven and choppy!! It didn't even occurred to me that she didn't hand me a mirror to check the back of my hair when she was done cutting. I've been to many different salons and the person always hand me a mirror to check. I called her instantly to try to get an appt to get my hair fix but no one answer. We had nice conversations from bakeries to learning Korean haa since I was interested in learning a few phrases. She doesn't wash your hair (that's extra) but sprays parts because she will 'volumize' your hair afterwards. She took about 30min to cut my hair from shoulder length to about an inch below my ears. Needed a cut to deal with the summer heat and found Jini's through Yelp! I was pleasantly surprised at the affordable prices (women's cuts start at 25) and salon itself. The salon is in a new building and very clean, though small it has everything you need. A waiting area, and 2 chairs to cut hair. I called to make an appointment and couldn't reach Jini, but she called and left a text message that I should call her back. After we set up the appointment I waited to go in for my haircut. Arriving right at my appointment time, she was finishing up with a client and gave styling tips. Came back for a Korean magic straight retreatment after a year. I highlighted my hair about 6 months ago, and because of this Jini warned me of the potential damage another treatment would have on the colored parts of my hair. She was not wrong. She however kept the damage to a minimum, taking extreme caution with certain parts of my hair in the process. We ended up having to cut my hair a little shorter than I originally planned for, but I actually love how it turned out! And of course, it's straight, smooth, and silky! The whole process took about 3.5 hrs. Oh and Jini recently moved to a new location about half a mile away from where she used to be. It's in the first floor of in a very nice modern apartment complex building. The address says Angel street, but you actually have to access the unit from the Main street side of the building. Free 2 hr street parking. Appointments are recommended as she's the only stylist and is often booked for the day. read more

Since moving back to the area it was time to find a new stylist. First time visit, scheduled an appointment for a basic mens cut the day before. Best to call ahead as she is often booked, she does respond quickly. Her policy does say by appointment only. Jini is very sweet and kind. Usually no wait with appointment and ended with a nice clean cut, which included a shampoo at the end to help get rid of all those pesky little hairs that seem to get everywhere. She has a gentle touch and does good work, I can't comment on more advanced work. She also does color and sells a small assortment of products. Pricing was average, a bit less than most fancy salons, and time spent was normal. August 2018 - Jini recently relocated to more central Beaverton. The new location is brand new modern and she no longer shares the space with anyone else. Downside is there's no parking lot, so I schedule during off hours and am usually able to park near the front doors. Her prices also increased. Although rare, sometimes she overbooks or the previous cut runs longer than expected and scheduling gets bottle-necked creating wait times of 15-30 minutes. I got lucky and was able to book an appointment after someone cancelled. I had about 3 inches of dark root showing and now it blends perfectly with the previously treated hair. Also asked her to trim my hair and bangs. I was happy with how she styled my hair and she even gave me styling tips. Overall I was in and out in 1.5 hours and I would love to come back for regular touch ups if I can find an appointment. I'm so happy with my new haircut and Jini did a fantastic job layering my hair. My hair was very long so I wanted to donate it. Jini helped me part my hair in sections and she cut it so I could donate it! I'm really glad she helped me do this part. I had a reference photo of the hairstyle I wanted and she did a really great job cutting my hair exactly like the photo. There was another customer before me and their time went a little over, so I had my haircut about 10 minutes later than my scheduled appointment time, which isn't a very big deal. It would have also been nice to hear some music or TV playing because it was really silent in the room. I also was very late to my appointment due to personal reasons but Jini wasn't rude about it and she didn't charge me for being late. She was very courteous and I respect that about her. I have been looking for Asian hairstylists around Beaverton because I have long thick black hair and I'm just sketch when I encounter new hairstylists because of past experiences. Not gonna lie I was hesitant at what she was doing at first because her technique at cutting my hair was different to what I'm used to but eventually everything worked out and I loooove my hair. And the price is great!! I have super long hair and she cut off about 3 inches off and I was only charged 35$. Normally at other salons I am charged 55$. After years of going to a well known PDX Salon, I decided to give the Asian salon a go as I have had decent experiences getting cuts from Asian ladies in Texas. However when I arrived, I was told that she does not usually shampoo the hair because it takes too long. So I said fine just wet it since it probably helps with the hair cut as I have always had hair shampooed at the salon. She said no other salons in the states do it. Then during the cut, she hands me a hair dryer, so I can blow dry my hair with her. All this does not matter if the hair cut was great but no, I have random long pieces sticking out. It looks terrible. And btw, she has 2 other signs in the store. One says cash only. The other one is a second pricing list for long hair. This is definitely a tried but failed experience read more

This review is long overdue! I've been in Portland for about a year and have been going to a great barbershop that usually cuts my hair pretty well. However, for some reason, each succeeding haircut was slightly of a lower quality than the previous. I had a feeling its due to the barber not being experienced with dealing with my asian hair. So I figured I should just find a proper asian salon for my next haircut. I did a quick yelp search and found Jini Hair Salon. Even though it was a Friday, Jini got me on to her schedule at closing time (so gracious, but I would recommend giving her more of a notice). Even though it was the last haircut of the day, she gave the same amount of care and attention as if it were her first. Needless to say, the haircut turned out great. Jini is great. I've gotten my hair cut by her several times, including a digi-perm, and have always been very happy. I'm from Atlanta where Korean hair salons are a dime a dozen and very competitive in terms of pricing/quality. So I have had my share of haircuts from countless Korean salons over the years. Jini is just as good as any haircut I've gotten from back home, and I'm so glad I found her! Her pricing is exceptionally reasonable and she is clearly overly skilled for her rate. She is very easy to communicate with in both English and Korean, which is actually pretty uncommon when it comes to a Korean salon. I'm used to having to dish out my very elementary/broken Korean when I go get a haircut. But she made me feel comfortable by not only speaking English with me, but also not shaming me for forgetting my Korean (something very typical). While cutting, she often checks in to see how you're feeling about it. When I went in for my digi-perm, I expressed my concerns with my hair and described my experience with my last digi-perm from Seoul. She heard me out, was able to distill that information and get me the best results this time around. I don't really know how much better it could get than that. P.S. I would take all the 1-star reviews here with a grain of salt. They seem to either be from customers who made an account just to leave a negative review, or customers who only leave negative reviews... aka people who are salty af at probably any service they get, ever. If you're paying $25 for a haircut and expecting the bells and whistles of a $80 haircut service (shampoo, product, styling, blow-out, etc.), then I think that's on you. Very cute clean salon. Very affordable. Went in for a shaggy bob with an undercut, showed her multiple pictures to go over the best cut. She wasn't interested in having a conversation about my cut. Just went for it. Went a little shorter than I wanted. Layers were very choppy. I have chunks that stick out from the rest of my hair, its all very uneven. The cut could be worse.
