The breakfast was great and the guy working there was helpful, friendly and very attentive. But those "new and improved" Cinnabon rolls were a total let-down. While they smelled good, they were lukewarm, too dense and largely taste-less. If I wanted taste-less mass prepared breakfast pastries I'd have stayed at the dozens of other hotel options. Instead, I stayed here for the awesome cinnamon rolls that HIE hotels are known for. I know you still have them - I had 2 on Tuesday morning in Fargo. I can only surmise that Cinnabon is paying you a ton of "dough" to proudly display their logo and serve their rolls. Don't get me wrong - I love Cinnabon rolls. But these are not normal Cinnabon rolls - these are some kind of 2nd rate imposters that obviously come frozen and then are thawed and slightly warmed to room temperature. I've had better cinnamon rolls out of vending machines. You are going to lose more money than you make on this deal. Am I overreacting here? If you think so then you don't understand the importance of breakfast pastries or the pure joy of eating a traditional HIE cinnamon roll. They are pastries that just simply make you happy and ready to face the day. The new ones made me want to go back to bed. This started as a 1 star review but this hotel is great and the people are awesome - it's not their fault that the corporate people are morons. Two complaints: The pillows are mediocre. Also, I've stayed at this La Quinta several times. During one stay, the heat & A/C unit worked great. The other stay, it didn't work properly.

The little things (mostly annoyances that you would expect at a Motel 6/Super8 for a much cheaper price): - Booking sites show pictures of a water slide that no longer exists. Would not have booked if I had known this, as there were other options for the same price with better accommodations. - Parking lot is insufficient for hotel capacity. If you have a large vehicle, you will most likely have to park at the south side of the property behind the gas station if the hotel is busy (more on this later) - TV remote didn't work with Dish box. Could turn TV on and off and adjust volume, but not open TV app or change channels/etc. Thankfully, my company is a Dish partner and I know how to reprogram the remote. I have no confidence I could have gotten the staff to figure it out. - Shower curtain was installed incorrectly (too high), making it impossible to seal to the tub and keep water off the bathroom floor. - Tile work was shotty and bathroom fan only worked intermittently. - Breakfast was decent, but waffle/pancake station is ~40ft from the rest of the food options. Had another guest not pointed this out, it would have been easy to miss completely. The things that matter: - The aforementioned parking situation is completely shielded from view from any public spaces and not well lit. This is inherently dangerous, but something I would normally overlook. In this case, it did lead to our vehicle being broken into overnight. This is not the fault of the hotel but was a byproduct of the poor parking situation. They even have signs warning you to lock your doors and they aren't responsible for theft, so the thought isn't foreign to them. - We alerted the front desk to the situation and requested to see camera footage from the camera above the door on that side of the building (30ft from our vehicle) to either see the act occur or confirm that we did not mistakenly bring the missing items into the hotel. At first, we were told we would have to wait for a manager to access the system. We never did see a manager, but at the time we were asked to check back, were told that the camera in question does not work. After further questioning about other camera angles, it was revealed that NONE of the cameras work, and haven't been accessible since the 'new' owners took over two months ago. This is completely unacceptable for guest safety and the fact it hasn't been addressed already should tell you everything you need to know about the direction of this hotel. I expect it will go downhill quickly. Learn from our experience and choose one of the many other options.

It just felt a bit run down. Also, our room had a locked closet that seemed to have an A/C unit or HVAC of some sort. The sound was so loud that it kept our children awake and legitimately scared them. If you are fine with having a bit more of a rundown hotel and need a room with a lot of space, then this is your place. If you are someone who likes cleanliness, though, you may be turned off by the state of the rooms.

When I pointed this out to the morning desk clerk, he said the food staff had not shown up. No apology, no attempt to correct the problems, no real interest in doing anything. Apparently, the other guests had a similar feeling about the breakfast because the dining area was empty. We left and had breakfast at a restaurant on the way out of town. Since breakfast is part of what you are paying for at this hotel, we felt deceived. I guess that's enough to let you know we won't be back! I should've known by the little blood spots on the sheets exactly what was going on. I woke up in the morning and as we started to rouse out of bed, I looked over at my husband and pulled this off the side of his face. I instantly went downstairs and said this was unacceptable. We need a refund. What are you gonna do about it? We were told they're going to "talk to their pest control person to do an investigation and if it's confirmed that they are bedbugs then they'll give us a refund." Again, I said this is not acceptable. They eventually came up to the room an hour and a half later tipped up the mattress, and my husband clearly saw a bedbug in the middle of the bed which they flicked off and acted like was not there. I physically reacted allergic to some bites a few hours later after we left the hotel.

I have had breakfast here a couple of times and it is consistent with the Hampton brand - something with eggs (scrambled or an omelet), a breakfast meat (bacon or ham or sausage) plus bread for toasting, juices, fresh fruit, yogurts and such. It's a decent hot breakfast. The room has been mostly quiet with no noise from the nearby interstate. Some hallway noise - I wish they had installed slow-close doors on all of the rooms. Housekeeping has done a good job of resetting the room and restocking towels and the like. There is a restaurant/bar next door and a supermarket within walking distance. Plenty of parking. The second room, also on the third floor, was a regular room with two queen beds. Both were clean and comfortable. More or less quiet, the first room was close to the elevator so the binging in the morning and evening got a bit annoying. Bathroom was nice and the shower worked very well with plenty of hot water. Bismarck has extremely soft water, so that's something you will want to be aware of. I did not use the fitness center, but I did get breakfast from the bistro a couple of times.
